D. And Put Away Childish Things. B After twenty years of marriage and two kids, I found myself a single mother. When my husband passed away, I was all the kids had. I had no family to help me where I lived, so I did what any mother would do. At times, I was working sixty-plus hours a week. It wasn’t easy, but my kids never went without and I never missed a bill. One night, I fell into bed worn out. My next memory was waking up in an ambulance with two nurses holding me down. I had no memory of how I got there, and I had a terrible headache. They took me to the hospital, and eventually they concluded I’d simply collapsed from fatigue. When I was released from the hospital, I began to rethink everything. As a single parent, I had to raise the kids myself, and I had to find a better way to do it. In time, I landed a better-paying job, and I was able to once again think about looking after myself. The first thing I did was take up jogging, which helped me get back into shape. I then began teaching aerobics classes so that I could help other women get their lives back. However, my favorite thing to do was go out for dinner with Kay. Every two weeks, Kay and I would go out for dinner. My children were old enough to stay at home alone for several hours. Kay and I never went to any expensive place. My daughter always asked why she never got to meet Kay. I just told her, “Someday.” Time passed quickly, and my children grew up. One day, my daughter asked me again about Kay. “Who was she?” she asked. Ultimately, I explained Kay was my middle name, and that at those nights when I went out, I was alone. She was astonished to learn Kay wasn’t a real person. However, Kay was a real person. She was the part of me who needed to feel special once in a while. 24. What did the author most probably think of being a single mother? A. It was rewarding. B. It was amazing. C. It was frustrating. D. It was tough. 25. What does the underlined word “fatigue” mean in paragraph 2? A. Carelessness. B. Disorder. C. Tiredness. D. Hunger. 26. What was the author’s real purpose of going out with Kay regularly? A. To relax herself. B. To socialize more. C. To seek support. D. To have a dinner. 27. What lesson does the author intend to show by telling this story? A. Having a right dinner companion counts. B. Self-care shouldn’t give way to being busy. C. Having a balanced life is a must for mums. D. Parents should be always taken good care of. C The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Put to use in 1752, it first cracked when rung after arriving in Philadelphia, and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow, whose last names appeared on the bell. Although no immediate announcement was made of the Second Continental Congress’s vote for independence, bells were rung on July 8 to mark the reading of the Declaration of Independence, with the Liberty Bell believed to be among them. The bell was adopted as a symbol by the organizations supporting freedom, which named it the “Liberty Bell” in the 1830s. In the early 19th century, the Liberty Bell acquired its first large crack, which happened when it was rung after the death of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835. Although the bell did not ring for independence on July 4, 1776, an 1847 short story claimed that it had, leading to its fame as a symbol of American freedom. From 1885, the City of Philadelphia allowed the bell to go to different events that celebrate the love for one’s country, leading to additional cracking and souvenir hunters chipping pieces away. The bell was later moved to the National Park Service’s custody (监管) after World War II. During the Cold War and the 1960s, the Liberty Bell became a popular site for protests, which was used as a symbol of freedom. So it was moved from its original home in Independence Hall to a nearby glass pavilion (亭) on Independence Mall in 1976 and then to the larger Liberty Bell Center in 2003. Over the years, the bell has appeared on coins, stamps, and in corporate logos. To learn more about the bell’s significance, visitors can take a virtual reality tour or visit the National Park Service’s official website. 28. What is this text mainly about? A. The Liberty Bell and John Marshall. B. The reasons why the Liberty Bell cracked. C. Protests near the Liberty Bell during the Cold War. D. The history and significance of the Liberty Bell. 29. When did the Liberty Bell have the first large crack? A During the Cold War and the 1960s. B. When it arrived in Philadelphia in 1752. C. When it rang for independence on July 4, 1776. D. After the death of Chief Justice John Marshall. 30. Why was the Liberty Bell moved to a nearby glass pavilion on Independence Mall? A. It was used as a popular site for protests. B. It would be replaced with a new one. C. It should have been accessible to visitors. D. It was close to Independence Hall. 31. Where is this text most likely to be published? A. In a history book. B. In a tourism magazine. C. In a book about architecture. D. In a magazine about stamp collection. D Cotton bags have become a means for brands, retailers and supermarkets to show their awareness of environment protection-or, at least, to show that the companies are aware of the overuse of plastic in packaging. “There’s a trend in New York right now where people are carrying such bags from local fast food restaurants, hardware stores or their favorite steakhouses,” says designer Rachel Comey. An organic cotton bag needs to be used 20,000 times to offset its overall impact of production. That equates to daily use for 54 years-for just one bag. Cotton is water-intensive, and figuring out how to deal with a bag in an environmentally low-impact way is not nearly as simple as people think. You can’t, for example, just put a cotton bag in a compost bin (堆肥箱), and only 15 percent of the 30 million tons of cotton produced every year actually makes its way to textile products. Even when cotton bags do make it to a treatment plant, most dyes used to print logos onto them are PVC-based and thus not recyclable; they’re extremely difficult to break down chemically. Printed patterns have to be cut out of the cloth. That’s not to say cotton is worse than plastic, or that the two should even be compared. While growing cotton can use pesticides and has dried up rivers for water consumption, lightweight plastic bags use fossil fuels, never biodegrade and block up the ocean. Buffy Reid, of the knitwear brand & Daughter, stopped the production of her cotton bags in April this year. Aesop is changing the composition of its shopping bags to a 60-40 blend of recycled and organic cotton. “It will cost us 15 percent more,” said Suzanne Santos, “but it reduces water by 70 percent to 80 percent.” “In the end, the simplest solution maybe the most obvious. Not every product needs a bag,” Comey says. 32. What can we infer from Rachel’s words in paragraph 1? A. New Yorkers take a lead in fashion. B. People consider cotton bags earth-friendly. C. Many companies are aware of environment protection. D. Various stores don’t provide shoppers plastic bags. 33. What does the underlined word “offset” in paragraph 2 mean? A. Team up with. B. Add up to. C. Put up with. D. Make up for. 34. What is implied about cotton bags in paragraph 3? A. They can cause environmental problems. B. They are popular due to PVC-based logos. C They can be recycled in a treatment plant. D. They can be broken down by chemicals easily. 35. Which of the following is Comey’s suggestion? A. Trying to follow the trend. B. Cutting the use of cotton bags. C. Replacing cotton bags with plastic ones. D. Improving the way of making cotton bags. How to stop laughing at inappropriate times Although laughing at inappropriate times can be embarrassing, it’s actually a natural reaction for some people when they’re facing a highly stressful situation. He wanted to be the first to wish everyone a happy New Year. He looked in every room, and shouted “Happy New Year”. He ran into the street to repeat the words to those he might meet. When he came back, his father gave him two dollars. His face lighted up as he took the money. He had wished for a long time to buy some books that he had seen at the bookstore. He left the house with a light heart to buy the books. As he ran down the street, he saw a poor foreign family-the father, the mother, and three children shivering with cold. “I wish you a happy New Year,” said Edward, as he was happily passing by. The father shook his head. “You do not belong to this country?” asked Edward. The man shook his head again, for he could not understand or speak the English language. But he pointed to his mouth and to the children, as if to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.” Edward quickly understood that these people were in a very difficult situation and needed some help. He took out his dollars, and gave one to the man, and the other to his wife. How their eyes sparkled (闪耀) with gratitude! They said something in their language, which doubtlessly meant, “We thank you a thousand times, and will remember you all the time.” When Edward came home, his father asked what book he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. “I have bought no books,” he said. “I think I can wait for my books till next New Year,” he continued. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The next day, Edward was stopped by his father. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 高二年级下学期期末考试模拟卷 英语试卷 (120分钟 150分) 考试范围:必修第一至第三册20%;选择性必修第一至第四册80% 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 When does the post office open? Joanne was born in Ohio, and in the 1930s when she was a teenager, she signed up to be a model to earn some money. She ended up modeling for two artists named Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel. They were creating what would become their most famous comic book, Superman. They drew Joanne and used her body for the character of Lois Lane, a reporter who would later become Superman’s wife. Joanne ended up marrying one of the men who had drawn her, Jerry Siegel, in 1948. She showed the same spirit and determination as her comic book character. When her husband died in 1996, she fought for him to be regarded as the creator of Superman when the character appeared in films and TV shows. In 2006, Joanne won her court case, and won a second court case in 2008. Not only did she make sure her husband’s memory was honored, but she managed to get the money they were due. With the money, her daughter and grandchildren would be taken good care of. She died a few years later in 2011, in their family home in California. A Explore four exciting new books in the world of fiction in 2023, ranging from science fantasy to murder mystery. They set out on a dangerous expedition to rescue their loved ones from being taken out of service.(这是一部奇幻冒险片,讲述了一家机器人家庭和一位居住在神秘森林中独特树屋里的人类的故事。 C。 B After twenty years of marriage and two kids, I found myself a single mother. D 25. C 26. A 27. 根据文章第一段“After twenty years of marriage and two kids, I found myself a single mother. When my husband passed away, I was all the kids had. I had no family to help me where I lived, so I did what any mother would do. At times, I was working sixty-plus hours a week. It wasn’t easy, but my kids never went without and I never missed a bill.(结婚二十载,育有两个孩子后,我成了一名单亲妈妈。 根据划线单词所在语境“One night, I fell into bed worn out. My next memory was waking up in an ambulance with two nurses holding me down. I had no memory of how I got there, and I had a terrible headache. They took me to the hospital, and eventually they concluded I’d simply collapsed from fatigue.(一天夜里,我精疲力尽地倒在床上。 根据文章最后一段“One day, my daughter asked me again about Kay. “Who was she?” she asked. Ultimately, I explained Kay was my middle name, and that at those nights when I went out, I was alone. She was astonished to learn Kay wasn’t a real person. However, Kay was a real person. She was the part of me who needed to feel special once in a while.( 一天,女儿又问起Kay:“她到底是谁?” 故选A。 B。 C The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A. During the Cold War and the 1960s. D 29. D 30. A 31. 根据全文内容,结合第一段“The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American independence located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Put to use in 1752, it first cracked when rung after arriving in Philadelphia, and was twice recast by local workmen John Pass and John Stow, whose last names appeared on the bell.(自由钟是位于宾夕法尼亚州费城的美国独立的标志性象征。 根据第三段第一句“In the early 19th century, the Liberty Bell acquired its first large crack, which happened when it was rung after the death of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835.(19世纪早期,1835年首席大法官John Marshall去世后,自由钟在敲响时出现了第一次大裂缝)”可知,自由钟在首席大法官John Marshall去世后被敲响时首次出现了巨大的裂缝,故选D。 根据第四段前两句“During the Cold War and the 1960s, the Liberty Bell became a popular site for protests, which was used as a symbol of freedom. So it was moved from its original home in Independence Hall to a nearby glass pavilion (亭) on Independence Mall in 1976 and then to the larger Liberty Bell Center in 2003.(在冷战和20世纪60年代,自由钟成为抗议活动的热门地点,被用作自由的象征。 根据最后一段“To learn more about the bell’s significance, visitors can take a virtual reality tour or visit the National Park Service’s official website.(要了解更多关于钟的意义,游客可以参加虚拟现实之旅或访问国家公园管理局的官方网站)”可知,本文最有可能出现在旅游杂志中,故选B。 D Cotton bags have become a means for brands, retailers and supermarkets to show their awareness of environment protection-or, at least, to show that the companies are aware of the overuse of plastic in packaging. C. They can be recycled in a treatment plant. D. They can be broken down by chemicals easily. 35. Which of the following is Comey’s suggestion? A. Trying to follow the trend. B. Cutting the use of cotton bags. C. Replacing cotton bags with plastic ones. D. Improving the way of making cotton bags. B 33. D 34. A 35. 由文章第一段中“Cotton bags have become a means for brands, retailers and supermarkets to show their awareness of environment protection-or, at least, to show that the companies are aware of the overuse of plastic in packaging. (棉袋已成为品牌、零售商和超市展示其环保意识的一种手段,或者至少表明这些公司意识到包装中塑料的过度使用)”以及““There’s a trend in New York right now where people are carrying such bags from local fast food restaurants, hardware stores or their favorite steakhouses,” says designer Rachel Comey. 由文章第二段中划线词所在的句子“An organic cotton bag needs to be used 20,000 times (一个有机棉布手提袋需要被使用2万次)”和“its overall impact of production. That equates to daily use for 54 years-for just one bag. 由文章第三段中“You can’t, for example, just put a cotton bag in a compost bin (堆肥箱), and only 15 percent of the 30 million tons of cotton produced every year actually makes its way to textile products.Even when cotton bags do make it to a treatment plant, most dyes used to print logos onto them are PVC-based and thus not recyclable; they’re extremely difficult to break down chemically. Printed patterns have to be cut out of the cloth. 故选A。 由文章最后一段中““In the end, the simplest solution maybe the most obvious. Not every product needs a bag,” Comey says. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: “I think I can wait for my books till next New Year,” he continued. His father looked at him with a blank look. “What happened, my son?” Edward explained, “It was a poor family that was badly in need of help. They even didn’t have enough clothes to wear and their children were hungry. So I gave the money to them without hesitation.” Edward’s explanation made his father understand what had happened and he expressed that he couldn’t agree more with him. “Never can we turn a blind eye to those in need. What you have done will make a happy New year,” his father said. The next day Edward was stopped by his father. To his delight, his father bought the books for him in praise of the work he did. Holding the books in his arms, Edward felt he was the happiest boy in the world. He hugged his father and gave him a big kiss. A few days later, Edward met the poor family again, and they still thanked him a thousand times. He understood the sweetness of helping others. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①忽视:turn a blind eye to /ignore/overlook ②购买:bought/purchase ③拥抱:hugged/embrace 情绪类 ①疑惑:blank look/puzzlement ②喜悦:delight/joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] Edward’s explanation made his father understand what had happened and he expressed that he couldn’t agree more with him.(运用了what引导宾语从句作understand的宾语以及that引导宾语从句作expressed的宾语) [高分句型2] Never can we turn a blind eye to those in need.(运用了否定词never置于句首,句子用部分倒装) [高分句型3] Holding the books in his arms, Edward felt he was the happiest boy in the world.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$第一部分听力。 I wonder why the post office is still not open.
