Teacher: Good morning, class! Today, we are going to have a revision of Module 5 Cartoons. Cartoons are always so much fun, aren't they? I believe all of you have watched many interesting cartoons. So, let's start our journey back to the wonderful world of cartoons.
Step 1: Revision of Key Words
Teacher: First of all, let's review some key words in this module. I will show you some pictures, and you need to tell me the corresponding words as quickly as possible. (Show the picture of a cartoon) What's this?
Students: Cartoon.
Teacher: Right! A cartoon is a kind of funny drawing or a moving picture that often makes us laugh. (Show the picture of a handsome boy) How about this word?
Students: Handsome.
Teacher: Exactly. When we describe a boy or a man as handsome, it means he looks good - nice - looking. Now, look at this one. (Show the picture of a person fighting)
Students: Fight.
Teacher: Great. “Fight” means to have a physical or verbal conflict with someone. It can be used as a verb, like “They are fighting over a toy.” or as a noun, “There was a big fight in the street.” Next one. (Show the picture of the sky)
Students: Sky.
Teacher: Perfect. The sky is the space above the earth where we can see the sun, the moon, and the stars. What about this character? (Show the picture of a hero, like Superman)
Students: Hero.
Teacher: Correct. A hero is a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. For example, Superman is a hero because he saves the world from bad people. Now, this word. (Show the picture of a humorous person making others laugh)
Students: Humorous.
Teacher: Well - done. “Humorous” means funny and able to make people laugh. A humorous person always brings joy to others. And this action? (Act out laughing)
Students: Laugh.
Teacher: Right. When we find something funny, we laugh. It's a natural reaction. Now, let's do a little exercise. I will say a sentence, and you need to fill in the blank with the correct word we just reviewed. “Spiderman is a cool ______ who can climb buildings.”
Students: Hero.
Teacher: Very good. “My uncle is very ______ and he often tells funny stories.”
Students: Humorous.
Teacher: Correct. “The birds are flying in the blue ______.”
Students: Sky.
Teacher: Great job, everyone.
Step 2: Revision of Text Content
Teacher: Now, let's recall the text content. Do you remember the conversation between Betty, Tony, and Daming in Unit 1? First, let's think about the cartoons they talked about. Who can tell me some of the cartoons mentioned?
Student 1: Tom and Jerry.
Student 2: Spiderman.
Student 3: Superman.
Teacher: Excellent. So, what does Tony think about Spiderman?
Student 4: Spiderman can't fly, but he climbs buildings with his hands and feet. Tony thinks that's cool.
Teacher: Exactly. Spiderman uses his special skills to fight bad people. Then, why does Daming think Superman is better?
Student 5: Because Superman is stronger than Spiderman. He can fly through the sky and fight bad people.
Teacher: Right. Superman has super strength and the ability to fly, which makes him a very powerful hero. Now, why do both Tony and Daming like Tom and Jerry?
Student 6: Because Tom and Jerry are very funny. The stories between them always make people laugh.
Teacher: That's true. The funny chase - scenes and the clever tricks in Tom and Jerry cartoons are really entertaining. And what lesson can Tony learn from Tom and Jerry?
Student 7: They fight a lot, but they really love each other. Tony can learn that friends can have arguments but still be friends.
Teacher: Well - said. Tom and Jerry's relationship shows us that friendship can survive disagreements.
Teacher: Let's move on to Unit 2. We learned about Tintin. Who can briefly introduce Tintin to the class?
Student 8: Tintin is a very popular cartoon character. He has been popular for over 80 years. He is a brave reporter and he always goes on exciting adventures.
Teacher: Great. Tintin travels around the world, meets different people, and solves many mysteries. What are some of his characteristics that make him so popular?
Student 9: He is brave. He is not afraid of difficulties or danger.
Student 10: He is also very smart. He can figure out solutions to problems.
Teacher: Right. His bravery and intelligence make him a beloved character. Now, can you tell me some of the adventures Tintin has been on?
Student 11: He went to the Congo. He also went to the moon in some stories.
Teacher: Exactly. His adventures are full of excitement and surprises.
Step 3: Revision of Grammar
Teacher: In this module, we focused on three important tenses: the present simple tense, the past simple tense, and the present perfect tense. Let's review them one by one. First, the present simple tense. When do we use it?
Student 12: We use it to talk about habits, general truths, and things that happen regularly.
Teacher: Right. For example, “I watch cartoons every Saturday.” This shows a regular habit. Can you give me another example?
Student 13: The sun rises in the east.
Teacher: Perfect. This is a general truth. Now, the past simple tense. When do we use this tense?
Student 14: We use it to talk about things that happened in the past, at a specific time.
Teacher: Correct. For example, “I watched a funny cartoon yesterday.” Here, “yesterday” is a specific time in the past. Can you make a sentence using the past simple tense?
Student 15: I visited my grandparents last week.
Teacher: Good. Now, the present perfect tense. What's the usage of this tense?
Student 16: We use it to talk about an action that started in the past and continues to the present, or an action that has just been completed with a connection to the present.
Teacher: Right. For example, “I have watched many cartoons since I was a child.” The action of watching cartoons started in the past (when I was a child) and continues to the present. Another example, “I have just finished watching an interesting cartoon.” The action of finishing watching the cartoon has just been completed. Now, let's do some exercises to practice these tenses. (Write some sentences on the board and ask students to fill in the blanks with the correct form of the verbs)
I ______ (watch) a cartoon last night.
She often ______ (watch) cartoons after school.
They ______ (see) this cartoon before.
Teacher: Let's check the answers. For the first sentence, what should we fill in?
Students: Watched.
Teacher: Right. Because “last night” indicates a past time, so we use the past simple tense. For the second sentence?
Students: Watches.
Teacher: Correct. “Often” shows a regular action, so we use the present simple tense. And for the third sentence?
Students: Have seen.
Teacher: Great. “Before” here implies an action that has a connection to the present, so we use the present perfect tense.
Step 4: Discussion and Speaking Activity
Teacher: Now, it's your turn to talk. I want you to work in pairs and discuss your favorite cartoon characters. You can talk about their appearance, their special skills, and why you like them. Use the words and tenses we have reviewed. After that, some pairs will come to the front and share your discussion with the class. (Students start to discuss in pairs)
Teacher: Okay, time's up. Which pair would like to come to the front first? (Invite a pair of students to the front)
Student A: My favorite cartoon character is Doraemon. He is a blue cat - like robot. He has a round body and a big pocket on his stomach.
Student B: Doraemon has many special gadgets in his pocket. For example, he has a time - travel machine. He can help his friend Nobita solve many problems.
Student A: I like Doraemon because he is very kind - hearted. Whenever Nobita is in trouble, Doraemon always tries his best to help him.
Teacher: Very good. You described Doraemon clearly and used some good words. Let's give them a round of applause. (Clap hands) Who else wants to share? (Invite another pair)
Student C: Our favorite cartoon character is Naruto. He is a young ninja. He has spiky yellow hair and bright blue eyes.
Student D: Naruto has a lot of powerful ninja skills. He can use the shadow clone jutsu to create many clones of himself.
Student C: We like Naruto because he is very determined. No matter how difficult the problem is, he never gives up.
Teacher: Wonderful. You also did a great job. I can see that you all have a deep understanding of your favorite cartoon characters.
Step 5: Summary
Teacher: Today, we have reviewed the key words, text content, and grammar in Module 5 Cartoons. We talked about many interesting cartoon characters and their stories. Remember the words we learned, such as “cartoon”, “handsome”, “fight”, etc. Also, make sure you can correctly use the present simple tense, the past simple tense, and the present perfect tense. Cartoons not only bring us joy but also teach us some valuable lessons. I hope you can continue to enjoy watching cartoons and learn something from them.
Step 6: Homework
Teacher: For homework, I want you to write a short passage about your favorite cartoon. You need to include at least 5 sentences, describing the character, its story, and why you like it. Use the words and grammar we have learned in this module. And don't forget to check your spelling and grammar carefully. That's all for today's class. See you next time!
