Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise(绿松石色)Table,a movement of ordinary people
who want to create community right in their own front yards.Ten years ago,she and her family moved
to a new home in Austin,Texas.
One day,Kristin tried to connect with her new neighbors by hosting a party. She bought a few
picnic tables but the delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake."After the party.I
painted the table turquoise-my favorite color-and put it in the front yard, just a few fect from the
sidewalk,"she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. They played games, did
crafts and ate snacks."We got intentional about where we spent our time,"Kristin says."We became
'front yard people'."
Neighbors began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat.Kristin invited people
to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea. Then neighbors asked Kristin if their family could put a
picnic table in their front yard too.A movement was born."It was a simple way to slow down and
connect with others,"she says. The turquoise table was inviting and had a shared feel.
People often hesitate to invite others into their homes. They think their house is too messy,it's not
big enough or they don't have enough time."Our perfectionism can cause us to miss out on the joy of
connecting with others,"Kristin says. Her picnic table takes away the excuses, and the pressure.
She likes how it enables her to take a small step toward easing loneliness and building relationships
in her community."People's greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,"she says.
A decade after their Texas beginnings, thousands of turquoise tables exist in all 50 states and in 13
countries around the world. Not all of them are actually turquoise."No matter what color it is,it's a
friendship table,"Kristin says.
24.Why did Kristin Schell start the movement?

Imagine going for dinner with a group of friends who switch in and out of different languages you
don't speak, but still being able to understand what they're saying. The system, called Spatial Speech
Translation, tracks the direction and vocal characteristics of each speaker, helping the person wearing
the headphones to identify who is saying what in a group setting.
"My mom has such incredible ideas when she's speaking in Telugu, but it's so hard for her to
communicate with people in the US when she visits from India. We think this kind of system could be
transformative for people like her,"says Shyam Gollakota,a professor at the University of Washington.
who worked on the project.
While there are plenty of other live AI translation systems out there, such as the one running on
Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses,they focus on a single speaker,not-multiple neople speaking at once,and
deliver robotic-sounding automated translations. The new system is designed to work with existing,off-
the-shelf noise-canceling headphones that have microphones,plugged into a laptop powered by Apple's
M2 silicon chip.
Spatial Speech Translation consists of two AI models, the first of which divides the space
surrounding the person wearing the headphones into small regions and uses a neural network to search
for potential speakers and pinpoint their direction. The second model then translates the speakers'words
from French,German,or Spanish into English text using publicly available data sets.
Gollakota's team is now focusing on reducing the amount of time it takes for the Al translation to
kick in after a speaker says something, which will accommodate more natural-sounding conversations
between people speaking different languages.
This remains a major challenge, because the speed at which an AI system can translate onc
language into another depends on the languages'structure.Of the three languages Spatial Speech
Translation was trained on,the system was quickest to translate French into English, followed by
Spanish and then German-reflecting how German,unlike the other languages,places a sentence's
verbs and much of its meaning at the end and not at the beginning
28.What can Spatial Speech Translation do according to the text?
A.Help people learn foreign phrases in conversations.
B.Translate multi-speaker conversations in real-time.
C.Remove language barriers in most formal situations
D.Work with other translation systems on smart glasses.

50.What does the underlined word"pinpoint"in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Accurately identify.
B.Roughly predict.
C.Randomly change.
D.Completely ignore.
Which of the following can be inferred about the system's design?
A.It performs differently across languages.
B.It prioritizes translation accuracy over speed.
C.It requires training on speakers'voice patterns.
D.It can only function with Apple's M2-based hardware.

When questions about children arise, many parents turn to the internet and social media for advice
on topics ranging from eating habits to children's screen time. But what kind of information are parents
most likely to see and share?
A new study by NYU researchers,Erin O'Connor and Robin Neuhaus, examined how articles
about screen time resonated with parents, and found that articles combining attention-grabbing language
with credible scientific framing (were the most likely to gain immediate and long-term attention
on social media.O'Connor says:"Parents deserve information that not only captures their attention, bul
also supports informed decision-making about their children's development."
O'Connor and Neuhaus analyzed 136 articles published between 2016 and 2021.They used
BuzzSumo,a social media analytics tool,to track each article's total social media shares across websites
and its evergreen score-to find how much attention the article continucd to receive after its initial
publication.
Each article was evaluated for two main factors:sensationalism and scientific framing.
Sensationalism was measured by the presence of warning language (e.g."alarming,""skyrocket".
“irreversible(不可逆转)damage'"),while scientific framing was measured by how well the article
explained findings, noted limitations, and gave accurate reporting.
Their analysis revealed that articles with high sensationalism and strong scientific framing
achieved the highest immediate shares and long-term attention. In particular, articles that focused on
younger children, with a negative view of screen time, and published on popular websites showed
stronger perfotmance.Interestingly, warning language alone boosted short-term sharing, but it was only
when combined with strong scientific framing that articles kept people interested over time.
Additionally, longer articles with more detailed context were more likely to achieve long-term attention.
32.What does the study focus on?
A.Children's use of mobile phones.
B.Parents'reliance on online advice.
C.Methods to improve parenting skills.
D.Features of popular screen-time articles.

A.Experts suggest limiting screen time for better sleep quality.
B.Researchers noted that screen time effects vary by age group.
C.Constant screen time produces non-repairable damage in kids.
D.Parents can set an alarm to warn against too much screen time.
s Which is the finding of the study?
A.Negative content gets shared the most.
