National Parks are the best places to see raw nature in protected areas, where the wildlife is free and the history is kept alive properly, such is the case of all national parks in Australia.
The Booderee National Park
It offers a protected habitat (栖息地) for native wildlife against high cliffs and white beaches. While summer is good for visiting due to the excellent weather, a special event takes place in June and July when whales come back with their babies. Educational tours are fit for school groups to get close to nature. There are a range of activities such as camping, diving and nature walks.
The Norfolk Island National Park
The history of the Park is eye-catching, so you might want to check out how Captain James Cook got here and why. You can picnic and have a nice barbecue around the highest point on the island, Mount Bates. Another tourist attraction is Phillip Island, six kilometers away from Norfolk, home to many seabirds.
The Uluru National Park
If you're into learning more about Aboriginals (土著居民) and their influence on the world, you mustn't miss it, where Tjukurpa stories come from about native songs and dances. The rocks here are extremely loved because they seem to change color during sunrise and sunset. So the spot is also great for walking, considering the knowledge and stories on the rocks' shapes and purpose for humans.
The Kakadu National Park
It has the longest historical records of Aboriginal people living there, which have been carved in the rock art made by Indigenous civilizations over the years. The Park has remarkable rivers and floodplains that go through the rich ecosystem. With more than 280 species of birds, 117 reptile species and 74 mammals, the park is a joy to the eye of the traveler.

When you think about who's responsible for a city's safety, what people come to mind? Police officers, firefighters or emergency response teams? Would you put your local meteorologist (气象预报员) in this group? That's the career Ashley Ruiz chose, and she's now the first female chief meteorologist in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Ruiz predicts the weather for her community.
In 2020, a tornado hit Ruiz's hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee and, even closer to home, her house. So she said she knew what a lifesaving job this could be.
However, her job isn't without difficulties. "Hearing people have been injured, like in a big hurricane, is really hard," she said. "We try our best to predict the weather as best as we can, and we are getting better. But it can always change."
Ruiz talked about the new and changing weather patterns. She said, "We are absolutely seeing changes in weather, with more intense and more frequent storms, which relate to climate change." Weather is changing everywhere, as the planet warms. There are more frequent droughts, stronger storms, and increasing temperature changes. This makes predicting the weather difficult.
Ruiz always knew she was interested in weather and how it affected the world. But her path to a career in meteorology wasn't easy. She said "I struggled so hard with math and wanted to give up. But I kept pushing and working hard, and now I'm the first woman chief meteorologist in the Baton Rouge TV market. I'm proud of that."
She wants kids to know they should never give up on their education or their dreams.
24. Why was the disaster in Ruiz's hometown mentioned in the text?
A. To call on people to prepare for disasters.

C. To offer a successful example of weather forecast.
D. To show Ruiz's understanding of the work of a meteorologist.
25. What is a challenge of predicting the weather according to the text?
A. Climate change. B. People's injury.
C. Poor technology. D. Lack of experience.
26. Which word can best describe Ruiz according to the last paragraph?
A. Creative. B. Clever. C. Hard-working. D. World-famous.
27. In which section of a newspaper may the text appear?
A. Sports. B. People. C. Education. D. Health.

Libraries are romantic places. The romance is that of reading, and the wealth of human imagining and learning that is contained in them. Access to the knowledge and literary art poetry, fiction, drama in a library is precious -and particularly valuable to young minds and people of any age with an interest in education.
It would be hard to find anyone who actively disapproves of libraries. But when it comes to reality, Britain's libraries are on less solid ground. The number of books borrowed in the year ending in March.2021 was 72.9m,down 56%on the previous year. Physical visits also collapsed, from 214.6m to 59.7m.
Of course, this is the behaviour that one would expect during a pandemic. Many libraries were closed during this period, while people were discouraged from unnecessary mixing. Book sales climbed to their highest in a decade in 2021, which suggests that some former users of libraries may have bought books instead.
Private libraries at home, whether large collections or single bookshelves, appear to be developing well. But the hope must be that visits and loans at public libraries will soon return to their former level too. Like any other service, libraries need users. And while booksellers might in one sense be regarded as competitors, in fact the vast majority of those involved in the trade, from publishers to poets, are library lovers.
This has something to do with the romantic idea of the reader as explorer, with every book a door to a new store of feeling or understanding. But it also involves the recognition that if books are to form part of our life, there must be space in public for them. Books can be treasured possessions, but there is also something special about a copy that arrives in your hands having passed through those of others and that will go on being passed between strangers who share your curiosity.
28.What has happened to British libraries?
A.They have been in a bad state.
B.They have become romantic places.
C.They have got great appeal for artists.
D.They have suffered great loss of users.
29.What has led to the home library boom in Britain?
A.People avoid close contact in public.
B.Many libraries have been pulled down.
C.People have access to affordable books.
D.More people disapprove of public libraries.
30.What does the author try to convey in the last paragraph?
A.Books are personal belongings.
B.Libraries are a paradise for adventurers.
C.Books should be attached importance to.
D.Libraries contribute to human connection.
31.What is the main idea of the text?
A.Libraries will fade out of stage.
B.Libraries will hold a promising future.
C.Booksellers benefit from libraries' collapse.
D.The pandemic has boosted British book sales.

I was born with a disability (残疾). When I started to go to school, my classmates were always teasing about it. I told them I'd fallen as a baby and cut my lips on a piece of glass. Somehow it seemed more acceptable to have suffered an accident than to have been born different. By seven, I was sure no one outside my own family could ever love me or even like me.
And then I entered the second grade, and Mrs. Leonard's class. She was round, pretty and sweet, with shining brown hair and warm, smiling dark eyes. Everyone loved her. But no one came to love her more than I did.
The time came for the annual hearing tests given at our school. I was hardly able to hear anything out of one ear, and wasn't about to show yet another problem that would single me out as different. So I cheated.
During the hearing tests, each child would go to the door of the classroom, turn sideways, close one ear with a finger, and the teacher would whisper something from her desk, which the child would repeat. Then the same thing was done for the other ear. I had discovered in kindergarten that nobody checked to see if the untested ear was being fully covered, so I only pretended to block mine.
My turn came. I knew from previous years that the teacher whispered things like "The sky is blue." or "Do you have new shoes?" I turned my bad ear to her, covering the other with my finger, and gently backed my finger out enough to be able to hear. I waited, and then came the seven words that changed my life forever: "I wish you were my little girl."
32. What does the underlined phrase "teasing about" in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Looking into. B. Caring about. C. Arguing over. D. Laughing at.
33. Why did the author worry about the hearing test?
A. She didn't want to make her disability public.
B. She couldn't understand the teacher's words.
C. She was afraid to make mistakes in the test.
D. She didn't want to disappoint Mrs. Leonard.
34. What can we know about what Mrs. Leonard said?
A. It made the girl very discouraged.
B. It proved the girl cheated in the test.
C. It made a huge difference to the girl.
D. It embarrassed the girl immediately.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. A Hearing Test Upsetting a Girl
B. Seven Words Changing a Girl's Life
C. A Strict Primary School Teacher
D. Clever Ways to Pass a Hearing Test

It was the topic of many quarrels he had gotten into with his wife, who understood why he was away so often but could not resist the urge to cry out for her husband's physical absence.
To make up for not always being there for his daughter, Leslie, Henry was determined to make it to her 16th birthday party on time. On the day of her birthday, Henry conveyed as many passengers as he could as usual. When he finally finished the last order to a distant town outside the city, Henry rushed back to his city for the small party.
However, he got caught up in a heavy snowstorm that restricted mobility on his way back. Stubbornly, he decided he would press on anyway and continued driving even though he had to go at a snail's (蜗牛的) pace.
It was 6: 00 pm and Leslie's party started at 6: 30 pm. He complained about the weather as he fastened his eyes on the slippery road. As time passed, he got closer to the city. Suddenly, he spotted a person sitting beside the road. He stopped his car to check on it, and found it was an elderly woman who was unable to speak but almost freezing. Her bedroom clothes told him she must be from the town nearby he just drove past.
Henry decided to take the woman to her town, but he remembered that his wife would be upset with him if he missed his daughter's birthday party. He called his wife to explain things. As he predicted, she said nothing, ending up the call. That made him uneasy and almost turn back to his car. But he knew that he could not leave the woman helpless. Dear editor,
I am writing to express my concern about a problem that many students, including myself, face before major exams. The issue is exam anxiety, which manifests in various ways such as sleeplessness, loss of appetite, and constant worry.
Some students experience headaches or stomachaches, while others become irritable and easily distracted. These symptoms not only affect our academic performance but also our overall well-being.
To address this issue, I suggest that the school could organize workshops on stress management and time management skills. Additionally, providing access to a school counselor for one-on-one sessions could be beneficial. Teachers could also incorporate relaxation exercises into their lessons to help us stay calm.
I hope my letter will prompt some positive changes to help us all cope better with exam stress.
Yours,
Li Ming

Without any hesitation, Henry was determined to help the stranger. He lifted the woman with all his might and settled her in the back seat of his car. Noticing she was shivering from the cold, Henry turned up his car heater to warm the freezing woman. Eventually, he brought the woman to a hospital in the town. Exactly as he had suspected, the nurses immediately recognized the woman. They revealed that the woman had Alzheimer’s disease, which led her to have trouble in communicating and always fail to find her way home. Having hearing that, Henry knew he really did the right thing. After that, Henry made his way home immediately.
Upon his arrival, it was late at night and Henry became more uneasy. He parked the car in the driveway and entered his house. There was no sign that there had been any celebration, as everything for the birthday party was well organized. Seeing her father return safe and sound, Leslie ran into his arms happily. He apologized to her that he couldn’t make it to her party on time. Little did Leslie care about that. Turning around, “I’m sorry I was away for so long, but I didn’t plan to be,” he said, expecting an annoyed response. Nevertheless, he got a hug instead from his wife who was proud of her husband’s kind gesture. The couple then celebrated their daughter’s birthday joyfully late at night.
