In the Fake News Era, Building Trust with Consumers Is Crucial
With consumers growing increasingly frustrated with online advertising and privacy concerns, how to you convince shoppers to buy your narrative(叙述), let alone your product?
A recent report by Trust-Radius, a software review company that connects buyers and vendors(供应商), may be able to shed some light. Among other interesting findings, it turns out that it may actually benefit brands to be painfully 1 about their products.
Consumer awareness of influencer marketing tactics(策略)is increasing. 2 according to the report, most consumers trust online peer 3 as much as recommendations from friends -- and well above company advertising message. Feedback from everyday folks, it seems, actually carries more 4 than a brand ambassador (大使)from an out-of-reach personality.
Transparency(透明度)is crucial. The report found that there is a large trust 5 between vendors and buyers. While vendors believe they are transparent, most buyers don’t appear to see it. During the sales process, for example, 85 percent of vendors -- 6 to be open about their product’s limitations during the sales process -- but only 36 percent of buyers share that same view. The reality is, consumers don’t expect any products to be 7 -- they just want to enter relationships with their eyes wide open so that they can 8 the options that are best for them. They also want brands to be more 9 . 66 percent of consumers say they will leave a company if they feel they are being treated like a number and not an individual.
Along with the combination of take news, advertising fraud, and data leaks, there have been fake reviews as well. Review sites have been 10 giving preferential(优惠的)treatment to paid advertisers, and consumers are increasingly discerning(有辨别力的), as a result. 11 , review sites are not our only source of peer reviews, with social media providing customer experiences on a second - to - second basis. When brands treat every 12 with a customer as a potential review, they’ll start paying more attention to detail, and being alert to delivering a valued and memorable experience every time. Taking feedback seriously also lets current customers feel valued and respected and makes your business seem more approachable. This helps secure 13 , and often, these customers will become brand ambassadors to their friends, family and people they meet online.
The challenge for brands today is determining how to use the 14 of the consumer to their advantage. In an age of cutting - edge technology, artificial intelligence, and self-service customer care, it’s odd to acknowledge that the best way to build trust with your customers is by holding an open 15 with your customers. Being more human, transparent, and listening to what people are saying will see your company thrive in an era marked by consumer suspicion.

【1】With consumers growing increasingly frustrated with online advertising and privacy concerns, how do you convince shoppers to buy your narrative(叙述), let alone your product?
【2】When brands treat every interaction with a customer as a potential review, they’ll start paying more attention to detail, and being alert to delivering a valued and memorable experience every time.
分析 该句是一个包含时间状语从句和并列主句的复合句,通过条件假设阐述品牌与消费者互动的逻辑,具体成分分析如下:时间状语从句“When brands treat every interaction with a customer as a potential review” 以 “When” 引导,“brands” 为主语,“treat” 为谓语,“every interaction” 为宾语,“with a customer” 作后置定语,“as a potential review” 为宾语补足语,表明品牌对每次互动的重视程度;并列主句由 “and” 连接两个谓语结构:第一部分 “they’ll start paying more attention to detail” 中,“they” 指代前文 “brands”,“start paying” 为谓语,“more attention to detail” 为宾语,强调对细节的关注;第二部分 “being alert to delivering a valued and memorable experience every time” 中,“being alert to” 为谓语短语,“delivering a valued and memorable experience” 为宾语,“valued” 和 “memorable” 为形容词修饰 “experience”,“every time” 为时间状语,强调持续性,全句以 “假设条件 — 行为结果” 为逻辑链,通过 “treat...as” 的类比和 “paying attention” 与 “being alert” 的并列,说明品牌将互动视为潜在评价时对细节和体验的双重重视,体现以消费者为中心的经营逻辑。
【3】In an age of cutting-edge technology, artificial intelligence, and self-service customer care, it’s odd to acknowledge that the best way to build trust with your customers is by holding an open dialogue with your customers.
(1) 形式主语的中文转化:英文 “It’s odd to...”
分析 该句是一个包含状语前置和形式主语结构的复合句,通过对比手法突出人际沟通在科技时代的价值,具体成分分析如下:状语部分“In an age of cutting-edge technology, artificial intelligence, and self-service customer care” 置于句首,“In an age of” 引出时代背景,“cutting-edge technology”“artificial intelligence”“self-service customer care” 并列列举三大科技特征,构建高数字化的时代语境;主句主干“it’s odd to acknowledge that...” 不定式短语,“odd”(奇怪的)作表语,形成认知反差;宾语从句“that the best way to build trust with your customers is by holding an open dialogue with your customers” 中,“the best way” 为主语,“to build trust with your customers” 为不定式短语作后置定语,明确目标,“is” 为系动词,“by holding an open dialogue with your customers” 为方式状语,“open dialogue”(开放对话)与前文科技特征形成对比,强调人际交流的核心作用,“with your customers” 重复出现,强化对象关系,全句以 “科技时代背景 — 反差式结论 — 核心要素” 为逻辑链,通过 “cutting-edge technology” 与 “open dialogue” 的冲突性表述,凸显在技术至上的时代,面对面沟通仍是建立客户信任的根本,语言简洁却蕴含对商业本质的深刻反思。
