开场导入
Teacher: Good morning, class! How was your weekend? Did you have a great time? Well, today, we are going to start a new unit. Before we begin, let's think about our daily lives at home. Do you often help your parents with anything around the house? Raise your hands if you do. (Wait for students to raise hands) Great! It seems many of you are very helpful at home. Now, let's recall some words we know related to home activities. For example, what do we call the activity of washing the plates, bowls, and spoons after a meal?
Student: Wash the dishes.
Teacher: Exactly! Wash the dishes. And what about making the bedding neat and tidy?
Student: Make the bed.
Teacher: Right! You guys are so smart. Today, we will learn more about these kinds of activities, which we call “chores”.
词汇讲解(对应 1a 部分)
Teacher: (Show pictures of different chores one by one on the screen) Now, look at the big screen. Here comes the first picture. What can you see? A person is cleaning the floor with a broom. How do we say this in English?
Student: Sweep the floor.
Teacher: Perfect! “Sweep the floor”. Pay attention to the pronunciation of “sweep”. It sounds like /swiːp/. Let's read it together three times. (Lead students to read) “Sweep the floor, sweep the floor, sweep the floor.”
(Continue with other pictures in the same way)
Teacher: Next picture. What's this person doing? He is putting the rubbish in a bag and taking it outside.
Student: Take out the rubbish.
Teacher: Very good! “Take out the rubbish”. Notice that “rubbish” means waste things. Read after me, “Take out the rubbish, take out the rubbish.”
(Show the picture of folding clothes)
Teacher: Now, look at this one. What's happening here?
Student: Fold the clothes.
Teacher: Correct! When we bend the clothes to make them smaller and neater, we say “fold the clothes”. The word “fold” is pronounced as /fəʊld/. Let's read, “Fold the clothes, fold the clothes.”
(For cleaning the living room)
Teacher: And this picture shows a person cleaning the living room. We say “clean the living room”. The living room is the place where we usually sit and watch TV or entertain guests. Read with me, “Clean the living room, clean the living room.”
(After introducing all the phrases in 1a)
Teacher: Now, let's read all these phrases together. I'll say the number, and you say the phrase. Number 1.
Students: Do the dishes.
Teacher: Number 2.
Students: Take out the rubbish.
Teacher: (Continue this way until all phrases are reviewed)
句型呈现与练习
Teacher: Now, let's learn how to ask others to do these chores in a polite way. Look at this sentence: “Could you please take out the rubbish?” This is a very polite way to make a request. When we use “could”, it makes our request sound more polite. It's not as direct as “Take out the rubbish.”
(Write the sentence on the blackboard)
Teacher: Let's read this sentence together. “Could you please take out the rubbish?” Now, who can tell me how we can answer this request if we are willing to do it? Any volunteers?
Student: Yes, sure.
Teacher: Great! “Yes, sure.” is a very common and positive answer. We can also say “No problem.” or “OK.” Let's practice. I'll say, “Could you please do the dishes?” And you answer with a positive response.
Students: Yes, sure. / No problem. / OK.
Teacher: Good! Now, what if we are busy and can't do it? How can we refuse politely? For example, if you have a lot of homework to do and someone asks you to clean the living room. How would you answer?
Student: Sorry, I can't. I have to do my homework first.
Teacher: Exactly! That's a very good way to refuse politely. You first say “Sorry, I can't.” and then give a reason. Now, let's practice. I'll make a request, and some of you answer positively, and some answer negatively with reasons. I'll start. “Could you please fold the clothes?”
Student 1: Yes, sure.
Student 2: Sorry, I can't. I'm going to watch my favorite TV show.
Teacher: Well done! You all did a great job.
听力练习(对应 1b 部分)
Teacher: Now, it's time for a listening exercise. Listen carefully. We will hear a conversation between Peter and his mother. They are talking about some chores. While you listen, check who will do these chores, Peter or his mother. Are you ready? Let's start. (Play the recording)
Teacher: (After the first play) Stop. Let's check the first one. Sweep the floor. Who will do it, Peter or his mother? Raise your hands if you think it's Peter, and put your hands down if you think it's his mother. (Wait for students to respond and then play the relevant part of the recording again to confirm)
Teacher: Now, let's move on to the next one. Take out the rubbish. Listen again. (Play the relevant part)
Teacher: (Continue this way for each chore in 1b, playing the relevant parts of the recording, having students respond, and then confirming the answers)
对话练习(对应 1c 部分)
Teacher: Now, it's your turn to practice making conversations about these chores. Work with your partners. One of you make a request using “Could you please...?” and the other answer either positively or negatively. You can use the phrases we learned in 1a. I'll give you an example first. A: “Could you please clean the living room?” B: “Yes, sure. I'll do it right away.” Now, start practicing. (Walk around the classroom, listening to students' conversations and offering help if needed)
Teacher: (After a few minutes) Stop. Let's invite some pairs to come to the front and show us their conversations. Which pair wants to be the first?
Pair 1 comes to the front and presents their conversation:
Student A: Could you please sweep the floor?
Student B: Sorry, I can't. I have to finish my drawing.
Teacher: Great job, you two! You used the sentence pattern very well and gave a good reason for refusal. Let's give them a round of applause. (Applaud) Who else wants to show their conversation?
(Another pair comes to the front and presents)
Student C: Could you please do the dishes?
Student D: No problem. I'll do them after I drink some water.
Teacher: Wonderful! Your pronunciation and intonation are very good. Keep it up.
