The water of the flowing river was so clear that he’d see his toes touching the sandy bottom of the river. Prigi left Bambe to study biology at Airlangga University in 1994. During a visit home two years later, he was shocked to find the once clean river now dark brown and smelly. After Prigi returned to campus, he set up a study group, Ecoton, short for Ecological Observation and Wetlands Conservation. The group headed back to Bambe to do water sampling in and around the river. Investigations then lead him to a series of research papers into the local incidence of childhood cancer. The studies revealed that 60 per cent of childhood cancer cases in Surabaya province came from the region of the Surabaya River. One year later, the group had identified various harmful chemicals in the river. Prigi then found many dead fish floating in the river. Tests confirmed the fish had a range of heavy metals in their systems. In 2007, Ecoton brought legal action against local authorities for failing to control pollution in the Surabaya River. In April 2008, the provincial court ordered the governor to introduce wastewater management regulations for companies operating along the Surabaya River. Today, the water is much clearer and children have even started to swim in the river. In 2008, Prigi launched the Surabaya River Detective Program to help children build a greater understanding of river pollution and to gain the attention of the public and the government. Much of Prigi’s and Ecoton’s success has come from raising awareness among locals of the role the river plays in their lives. “People don’t care for rivers if they don’t understand what is happening in those rivers,” he explains. Sharing details about how their grandparents and great grandparents used and respected the river has raised a sense of social responsibility at the individual level. 4. What inspired Prigi to establish Ecoton? A. The lack of enjoyable areas near his village. B. The shocking pollution of the Surabaya River. C. A biological project ed in his study group. D. His childhood memories about the Surabaya River. 5. What do we know about the Surabaya River? A. Dead fish in the river were linked to childhood cancer. B. Public awareness campaigns forced companies to shut down. C. Authorities approved of the Surabaya River Detective Program . D. Legal efforts by Ecoton contributed to wastewater regulations for the river. 6. Which of the following can best describe Prigi? A. Caring and adventurous. B. Inspired and Innovative. C. Courageous and Selfless. D. Devoted and responsible. 7. What is the best title of the passage? A. Ecoton: The Study Group behind the Surabaya River B. River Management: Government Policies and Challenges C. River Warrior: One Man’s Fight to Save His Childhood River D. The Surabaya River: A Study of Water Quality Changes Over Time 【答案】4. B 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第二段“Prigi left Bambe to study biology at Airlangga University in 1994. During a visit home two years later, he was shocked to find the once clean river now dark brown and smelly. After Prigi returned to campus, he set up a study group, Ecoton, short for Ecological Observation and Wetlands Conservation. The group headed back to Bambe to do water sampling in and around the river.(普里吉于 1994 年离开巴姆贝,前往艾尔朗加大学学习生物学。两年后的一次回家探亲时,他惊讶地发现那条曾经清澈的河流如今已变成深褐色且散发着恶臭。普里吉回到校园后,成立了一个名为“生态团”(意为生态观察与湿地保护)的研究小组。该小组再次前往巴姆贝,对河流及其周边水域进行了水样采集)”可知,普里吉创立“埃科顿”公司的原因是苏拉威西河的严重污染事件。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“In 2007, Ecoton brought legal action against local authorities for failing to control pollution in the Surabaya River. In April 2008, the provincial court ordered the governor to introduce wastewater management regulations for companies operating along the Surabaya River.(2007 年,埃科顿公司对当地政府部门提起诉讼,指控其未能控制苏拉威耶河的污染问题。2008 年 4 月,省法院责令州长制定针对沿苏拉威耶河运营的企业的废水管理规定)”可知,埃科顿公司的法律努力促成了该河流的废水管理规定。故选D。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Prigi left Bambe to study biology at Airlangga University in 1994. During a visit home two years later, he was shocked to find the once clean river now dark brown and smelly. After Prigi returned to campus, he set up a study group, Ecoton, short for Ecological Observation and Wetlands Conservation. During a visit home two years later, he was shocked to find the once clean river now dark brown and smelly. After Prigi returned to campus, he set up a study group, Ecoton, short for Ecological Observation and Wetlands Conservation. In April 2008, the provincial court ordered the governor to introduce wastewater management regulations for companies operating along the Surabaya River.(2007 年,埃科顿公司对当地政府部门提起诉讼,指控其未能控制苏拉威耶河的污染问题。 C。 C For a country known for long winters and high taxes, Finland appears remarkably lively. On March 20th, Finland came top of the World Happiness Report, an annual UN-backed study, marking its eighth straight win ahead of 146 other countries. Not far behind it were Denmark, Iceland and Sweden. What makes the Nordics so happy? The World Happiness Report is more a study of life satisfaction than smiles and laughter. It is based on a survey by Gallup, a pollster (民意测验机构), where participants are asked to rate their lives out of ten. Finns are not known to smile much. But in the latest survey they said their lives were a solid 7.7 on average — well above the global country average of 5.6. Various other organizations have found the Nordics to be some of the most stable, progressive and safe countries in the world. They dominate the high positions in The Economist’s glass-ceiling index, which measures the role and influence of women in the workforce. Deaths of despair, including suicides and unintentional overdoses (服药过量), are quickly reducing in the region. The Nordics are also some of the wealthiest countries in the world per person, which typically has a significant effect on life satisfaction. On this measure countries in Latin America also stand out, reporting happier lives than their incomes would otherwise suggest. The researchers offer a possible explanation. They find Latin America is a “global leader” in meal sharing. People across the region reportedly eat around nine meals per week with friends or family. This might mean they are better connected and less lonely than their peers elsewhere. Indeed, across the world the study found that measures of social support are more closely linked to how people rate their lives than GDP per person. This might also explain why happiness in America and some other rich countries is falling. Americans increasingly eat alone, live alone and — when given the choice — work alone. In many other countries, too, an erosion of meaningful connections is leaving people feeling lonely and glum. But in Finland, alone time is actually cherished. Finns retreat to their mökki (country cottages) for deliberate solitude (独处) — often in a sauna. 8. What mainly contributes to the Nordics’high life satisfaction? A. Few deaths from despair. B. Favorable weather conditions C. High wealth and stable society. D. Frequent smiles and laughter. 9. Why do Latin American countries report high happiness levels? A. They have closer social connections. B. Their governments provide generous welfare policies. C. They have higher GDP per person than Nordic countries. D. They prioritize individual achievements over community life. 10. What does the underlined word “erosion” mean? A. Slight enhancement. B. Gradual reduction. C. Sudden increase. D. Complete destruction. 11. What is the main purpose of the article? A. To explore factors influencing happiness. B. To discuss the effect of wealth on life satisfaction. C. To compare the happiness levels of different countries. D. To prove that Finland’s cold climate improve life satisfaction. C 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第四段中“Various other organizations have found the Nordics to be some of the most stable, progressive and safe countries in the world. (许多其他组织认为北欧国家是世界上最稳定、最进步和最安全的国家之一。)”和第五段“The Nordics are also some of the wealthiest countries in the world per person, which typically has a significant effect on life satisfaction. (北欧国家也是世界上人均最富有的国家之一,这通常对生活满意度有重大影响。)”可知,文中明确提到北欧国家人均财富高,且社会稳定性强,这些因素对生活满意度有显著影响,选项A“绝望导致的死亡减少”是现象,但非主要原因,选项B和D未提及。故填C。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第三段中“They find Latin America is a ‘global leader’ in meal sharing. People across the region reportedly eat around nine meals per week with friends or family. This might mean they are better connected and less lonely than their peers elsewhere. (他们发现拉丁美洲是共享餐食的‘全球领先者’。据报道,该地区的人们每周约与朋友或家人共进九顿饭。这可能意味着他们比其他地方的同龄人有更好的联系,不那么孤独。)”可知,拉丁美洲国家的高幸福水平归因于频繁的共餐行为,每周约9次与亲友共餐,加强了社会联系。故选A。 根据全文内容,结合第四段中“Various other organizations have found the Nordics to be some of the most stable, progressive and safe countries in the world. (许多其他组织认为北欧国家是世界上最稳定、最进步和最安全的国家之一。)”、第六段中“On this measure countries in Latin America also stand out, reporting happier lives than their incomes would otherwise suggest. (在这一衡量标准上,拉丁美洲国家也很突出,他们报告的生活比他们的收入所显示的更幸福。)”和倒数第二段中“This might also explain why happiness in America and some other rich countries is falling. (这也可以解释为什么美国和其他一些富裕国家的幸福指数正在下降。)”以及最后一段中“But in Finland, alone time is actually cherished. (但在芬兰,独处的时间其实是很珍贵的。)”可知,文章分析了北欧的财富与稳定、拉丁美洲的社会联系、美国等地的孤独现象,以及芬兰对独处的珍视,核心目的是探讨不同因素如何影响幸福感,选项C“比较各国幸福水平”是手段,而非主要目的;选项B和D仅涉及部分内容。故选A。 D Dartmouth researchers conducted the first-ever clinical trial of a generative (生成的) AI-powered therapy chatbot and found that the software resulted in significant improvements in participants’ symptoms, according to results published March 27 in NEJM AI. The trial consisted of 106 people from across the United States diagnosed with major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, or an eating disorder. Participants interacted with Therabot through a smartphone app by typing out responses to prompts (提示词) about how they were feeling. People diagnosed with depression experienced a 51% average reduction in symptoms, leading to clinically significant improvements in mood and overall well-being, the researchers report. Participants with generalized anxiety reported an average reduction in symptoms of 31%, with many shifting from moderate to mild anxiety, or from mild anxiety to below the clinical level for diagnosis. Among those at risk for eating disorders—who are traditionally more challenging to treat—Therabot users showed a 19% average reduction in concerns about body image and weight, which significantly outpaced a control group that also was part of the trial. “There is no replacement for in-person care, but there are nowhere near enough providers to go around,” says Jacobson, the study’s senior author. For every available provider in the United States, there’s an average of 1,600 patients with depression or anxiety alone. He says, “We would like to see generative AI help provide mental health support to the huge number of people outside the in-person care system. I see the potential for person-to-person and software-based therapy to work together.” “While these results are very promising, no generative AI agent is ready to operate fully autonomously in mental health where there is a very wide range of high-risk scenarios it might encounter,” says Michael Heinz, who also is an attending psychiatrist (精神病专家) at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. “We still need to better understand and quantify the risks associated with generative AI used in mental health contexts.” 12. What can we learn from the passage? A. Therabot had little effect on eating disorders. B. All the Participants suffered from mental illnesses. C. Therabot was more effective than human professionals. D. Participants communicated with Therabot via text-based interaction. 13. The author mentions “1,600 patients per provider” to________. A. Stress the shortage of mental health resource. B. Blame the low quality of professional therapy. C. Compare treatment costs between humans and AI. D. Demonstrate the urgency of mental care for sufferers. 14. What is Michael Heinz’s attitude towards the application of Therabot? A. Opposed. B. Indifferent. C. Cautious. D. Supportive. 15. What is the passage mainly about? A. The necessity of human therapists. B. An AI assistant for mental healthcare. C. Limitations of AI technology. D. The lack of in-person care. D 13. A 14. C 15. 根据第二段“Participants interacted with Therabot through a smartphone app by typing out responses to prompts (提示词) about how they were feeling.(参与者通过智能手机应用程序与Therabot互动,通过输入对他们感受的提示的回应。)” 根据第四段中““There is no replacement for in-person care, but there are nowhere near enough providers to go around,” says Jacobson, the study’s senior author. For every available provider in the United States, there’s an average of 1,600 patients with depression or anxiety alone. (该研究的资深作者雅各布森说:“面对面护理没有替代品,但附近没有足够的提供者”。在美国,每有一个可用的提供者,平均就有1600名抑郁症或焦虑症患者。)”可知,作者提到“每个提供者就有1600名患者”,是为了强调心理健康资源的短缺。故选A。 根据最后一段Michael Heinz所说“While these results are very promising, no generative AI agent is ready to operate fully autonomously in mental health where there is a very wide range of high-risk scenarios it might encounter.(虽然这些结果非常有希望,但没有一种生成式人工智能智能体能够完全自主地在心理健康领域运作,因为它可能会遇到各种各样的高风险情况。)”和“We still need to better understand and quantify the risks associated with generative AI used in mental health contexts.(我们仍然需要更好地理解和量化与心理健康环境中使用的生成式人工智能相关的风险。)” 通读全文,根据第一段“Dartmouth researchers conducted the first-ever clinical trial of a generative (生成的) AI-powered therapy chatbot and found that the software resulted in significant improvements in participants’ symptoms, according to results published March 27 in NEJM AI.(根据3月27日发表在《NEJM AI》上的研究结果,达特茅斯学院的研究人员对一种基于人工智能的治疗聊天机器人进行了首次临床试验,发现该软件显著改善了参与者的症状。)” Between the ages of about 12 and 25, your brain undergoes significant changes that affect emotions, thinking and learning. My job was to follow behind the runners in an ambulance in case any of them needed medical attention. The driver and I were in an air-conditioned ambulance behind approximately one hundred athletes waiting to hear the sharp crack of the starting gun. The scorching sun beat down mercilessly, and I could already see beads of sweat forming on the runners’ necks even before the race began. “We’re supposed to stay behind the last runner, so take it slowly,” I said to the driver, Doug, as we began to creep forward. My fingers tapped nervously on the medical kit beside me, mentally preparing for the potential heat strokes and sprained ankles we might encounter. “Let’s just hope the last runner is fast!” He laughed. His joke did little to ease my tension as I scanned the crowd of runners stretching their legs, their faces a mix of excitement and determination. As they began to pace themselves, the front runners started to disappear. It was then that my eyes were drawn to the woman in blue silk running shorts and a baggy white T-shirt. She stood out not because of her speed, but because of her painfully slow and awkward manner of walking. My breath caught in my throat as I took in her condition. “Doug, look!” My voice came out, filled with both admiration and worry. We knew we were already watching our “last runner.” Her feet were turned in, yet her left knee was turned out. Her legs were so crippled and bent that it seemed impossible for her to be able to walk, let alone run a marathon. Doug and I watched in silence as she slowly moved forward. The ambulance’s engine ran quietly, matching our respectful silence. We didn’t say a thing. We would move forward a little bit, then stop and wait for her to gain some distance. Then we’d slowly move forward a little bit more. The sun climbed higher in the sky, its heat becoming more intense, but the woman in blue shorts persevered. Paragraph 1: I watched her struggle to put one foot in front of the other. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally, she was the only runner left in sight. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I watched her struggle to put one foot in front of the other. My heart clenched with each painful step she took. Her left leg dragged slightly, while her right foot scraped against the pavement at an unnatural angle. Each step seemed to require her entire concentration. Part of me wanted to jump out and stop her, to tell her she didn’t need to endure this suffering. Yet another, deeper part of me swelled with such intense admiration that tears welled in my eyes. Here was someone who had every reason to quit, yet chose to keep going despite the pain, despite the impossibility of her situation. Finally, she was the only runner left in sight. Tears streamed down my face as I sat on the edge of my seat and watched with awe, amazement and even respect as she pushed forward with determination through the last miles. When the finish line came into sight, the cheering crowds had long gone home. She slowly crossed the finish line as our ambulance slowly moved forward at her pace. In that moment, I realized we weren’t just following the last runner — we were witnessing something truly extraordinary. For her, the marathon wasn’t about beating the other runners or winning a medal. It was about finishing what she had set out to do. 词汇激活 行为类 ①需要:require/demand ②阻止:stop/prevent ③向前推进:push forward/move forward 情绪类 ①痛苦:pain/agony ②下定决心地:with determination/determinedly 【点睛】[高分句型1] Yet another, deeper part of me swelled with such intense admiration that tears welled in my eyes. The Surabaya River: A Study of Water Quality Changes Over Time C For a country known for long winters and high taxes, Finland appears remarkably lively. Americans increasingly eat alone live alone and — when given the choice — work alone. D Dartmouth researchers conducted the first-ever clinical trial of a generative (生成的) AI-powered therapy chatbot and found that the software resulted in significant improvements in participants’ symptoms, according to results published March 27 in NEJM AI. Between the ages of about 12 and 25, your brain undergoes significant changes that affect emotions, thinking and learning. My job was to follow behind the runners in an ambulance in case any of them needed medical attention. The driver and I were in an air-conditioned ambulance behind approximately one hundred athletes waiting to hear the sharp crack of the starting gun. The scorching sun beat down mercilessly and I could already see beads of sweat forming on the runners’ necks even before the race began. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
