Castle Quarter
There is a saying: no trip to Budapest is complete without a visit to the Castle Quarter. The site includes Buda Castle, Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion. To have a better view, you'd better visit the oldest part of Budapest just before sunset. Visitors can see the city light up as it changes from daytime to night.
Central Market Hall
If you're feeling hungry, make this your first stop. The market has different kinds of tasty fruit and vegetables, sausages, cheese, and pickles which belong to Budapest. Visitors can also find local traditional art there. The red-brick building with its attractive yellow and green roof is also a big draw for architecture lovers.

On each side of the square stand two neoclassical(新古典主义的) wonderful buildings—the Museum of Fine Arts and the Kunsthalle.
Hungarian Parliament

I was born with a rare disease that prevented the normal growth of my right arm. I was bullied(霸凌) at school. Those cruel comments won't affect me now, but back then they struck very hard.
My parents realized playing with Lego was a great way to improve my flexibility, so they bought me a set when I was five. I built planes and cars, and even a prosthetic(假肢的) arm, though I had already decided I didn't need a prosthesis—they were very expensive, and I was doing just fine.
I made one because it's fun. I have since made several new versions. And my latest model is the most advanced and comfortable. It has a control unit that can send and receive orders from sensors on the arm to the motors, with cables that contract like muscles.
A lot of people don't have the resources to buy a prosthesis. I hate it when people have to pay up to 100,000 for a prosthesis. They shouldn't pay that much—it's not a luxury. My goal is to try to make some that more people can afford.
When I was 19, the parents of an eight-year-old boy got in touch to ask if I could build him a prosthesis. His arms and legs are underdeveloped as part of his condition, so I made two prosthetic arms using Lego units costing only 15. His smile was very empowering(增强自信的) when he used them for the first time.
To me, my creations don't necessarily tell the story of how I overcame my condition with Lego; they're about how I overcame bullying and being upset almost every day at school.
24. How did the author feel about his school experience?
A. Encouraging. B. Tiring. C. Painful. D. Comfortable.

26. What change does the author highlight from making prosthetics?
A. He earned great fame. B. He improved his grades.
C. He cured his disability. D. He found emotional relief.
27. What kind of person is the author?
A. Sympathetic and creative. B. Outgoing and adaptable.
C. Patient but aggressive. D. Ambitious but proud.

Have you ever thought about why malls, restaurants, and even theaters have music? Well, to understand this, you simply just look back at how you felt when you heard music in these places. Music is known to improve the mood of people. Often music helps us pay attention to what we are doing. Music helps patients feel good and helps them recover faster and better.
Depression (沮丧) is a state of mind that most of us experience at some point of time. There are some periods in our life when everything seems difficult. It seems that everything is getting worse and we have no control over our life. Studies have shown that music can be an important mood lifter in such situations. Music also plays a great role in making us feel less nervous or worried. Anxiety can often cause loss of sleep and other illnesses.
Music is often known as an international language. We may not know the language another person is speaking, but most of us respond to music in the same way. Music can often be the best way to connect with someone.
Music is one of the best ways to improve your moods, but this can depend largely on the kind of music you listen to. While happy music can certainly make you feel better, sad music can further lower your spirits. Listening to classical music can often make you feel a lot more energetic, while soft music can be the perfect way to relax at the end of a long day. If you want to use music to change the way how you are feeling, you need to understand the role of it, learn to recognize the kind of music that lifts your mood and helps you feel better. Once you realize the kind of music you can use, you can use it to change the way you feel. The right kind of music can be the perfect way to help us feel happier.

31. According to the last paragraph, what kind of music can relax ourselves from a long day’s work?
A. Classical music. B. Soft music. C. Sad music. D. Rock music.

“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” But now scientists have given us another warning: too much play with smart phones or computers makes you dull too.
“Many focus on the benefits of digital devices (设备) in education but ignore the costs,”said Patricia Greenfield from the University of California, “losing the ability to understand the emotions of other people is one of the costs.”Greenfield and her research team did an experiment. They worked with 105 children who spent about 4.5 hours in front of screens on a school day. The students were asked to describe the emotions towards the pictures of people who were happy, sad, angry, or scared. Then, half of them attended a five-day nature and science camp. There they had no smart phones, TV, or computers. The other half stayed in school and spent the five days as usual. Five days later, all the children took the test again.
Students who had been to the camp got about 5 percent more answers correct than they had done before the camp. But the other group of students didn’t show much improvement. The study is not perfect in some ways, said the researchers. But scientists say that the study is still a warning for us.
“Emotional skills develop in practice and the brain develops through real interaction,” said Professor Taylor, a professor at the University of San Francisco.
Researchers talked to 2,000 parents of children aged 2-16 in the UK about what activities their children could do confidently. The results were shocking: Their children could use a tablet (平板电脑) (59%) and work a mobile phone (57%) more confidently than they could tie their shoelaces (鞋带) (53%)! So, spend more time away from mobile phones and computers if you want to be an understanding friend, and not a member of what the Daily Mail called “Generation Helpless”.

A. Having bad relationships with family members. B. Failing to focus on their schoolwork.
C. Being addicted to online games. D. Being unable to understand others’ emotions.
33. How do scientists like the results of Greenfield’s experiment?
A. They are far from perfect. B. They are alarming. C. They still need to be improved. D. They are quite reasonable.
34. What can be inferred from the text?
A. Students learned how to express emotions in the experiment.
B. Students attending the camp did much better in their studies.
C. Too much play with digital devices caused some concerns.
D. More than half of the children in the UK couldn’t tie their shoelaces.
35. What is the author’s advice for readers at the end of the text?
A. To make more friends through your smart phones.
B. To learn to tie your shoelaces confidently.
C. To learn to be an understanding friend.
D. To use your smart phones and computers less.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Some days it seems nearly impossible to find even half an hour for a workout. ___36___ This means that if you manage to get three 10-minute exercise periods, you greatly reduce the possibility of developing serious health problems later in life. So it’s truly worth scheduling these short movement breaks into your day.
One simple way to exercise is by walking every day. You can walk your dog. If you usually just let your dog out a few times a day, turn one of those outings into a proper walk with it. Gradually, you’ll notice that your 10-minute walk might become a 20-or 30-minute one on some days. 37
For those who are used to running, it’s quite convenient to break into a jog whenever and wherever you are, as long as you have comfortable shoes on. 38 So after this quick exercise, you can smoothly return to work or go on with whatever activity you were busy with before.
39 Choose three songs that always get you active. Since most songs last between 3 — 4minutes, three of them provide the perfect time for a short workout. Just move to the rhythm (韵律) of these songs in any way that feels right to you. This can even be done in the comfort of your own home.
Doing housework can also be a form of exercise. Ten minutes spent sweeping leaves or cutting unwanted branches in your yard are part of your daily chores. If you complete these tasks every day for a week, you will get some exercise. 40 These activities all count as 10 minutes of movement, contributing to your overall daily exercise goals.
A. Joining a group is necessary.
B. The first thing to prepare is a pair of sports shoes.
C. Besides, you’ll also save some money on keeping your yard orderly.
D. However, the benefits of exercise are widely recognized.
E. Another enjoyable way to exercise is through music.
F. Jogging for 10 minutes won’t make you overly sweaty or mess your hair due to the short time.
G. If you don’t have such an animal friend, force yourself to take a daily walk at a specific time.

During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.
He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log(原木) on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.
I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.
The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.

第四部分 写作
第一节
To raise the students’ environmental awareness and encourage us to do voluntary work, our school organized a clean-up activity in the City Park on June 5.
Not only did we collect dropped litter to the rubbish cans but we also helped the cleaners do some sweeping. Additionally we put up some banners reading “protect our environment” or “No waste and littering” and so on in the park. Though worn out, we feel it very meaningful and enjoyable since it contributes more or less to a better environment.
第二节 读后续写
参考范文1
When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. I shook my head and said no, wondering why she asked such a question — was she going to treat me to lunch or something? “Wait a minute,” said the girl, and then she went back to the truck. After a few minutes she came back with a paper bag. “Here are some Mexican snacks and you can have some when you are hungry,” the girl smiled. I was so surprised and touched that words almost failed me. I just said a “WOW!” instead of a “Thank you!” when I took the bag.
After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag. When I saw what was in the bag, I was overcome with a mixture of respect and gratefulness. In addition to the snacks, there was the $20 bill. What a kind and respectable family! They are a perfect example of what kindness really means. And I’m sure I will pay it forward.
参考范文2
When I was about to say goodbye, the girl asked if I’d had lunch. Of course not, for I had been trapped there for quite a few hours. She then had a word with her parents and went back to their truck. A few minutes later she came back with a paper bag. “That’s Mommy’s hand-made taco,” explained the girl. “It’s so yummy that you must love it.” I was starving to death after all that exhausting work so I took the Mexico-originated food, grateful and deeply moved. Then we waved goodbye to each other.
After they left, I got into my Jeep and opened the paper bag. Inside the bag was a chicken taco. The next few minutes saw my wolfing down the delicious food. Tears welled up as I was chewing. It was awesome to know that while many people tend to ignore those in need, there are some kind-hearted ones who go out of their way to lend a hand. The good deed the foreign family did will never escape me. I am going to pass it down to create a much friendlier world.
