原文材料
It was the last year before I retired my Labrador Retriever, May, from
her role as a therapy (治疗 ) dog. May and I had been volunteering in a
shelter that offered support for women and children in need. A young
mother and her four-year-old son had come to the shelter where they had
stayed for several weeks but the little boy William, hadn't spoken since
their arrival.
Every Saturday, May and I would visit and play with the children who
were staying in the shelter with their mothers. And, every week, William
and his mother would come to watch but never participate. We had tried to
engage with William when he first arrived at the shelter, but he never left
his mother's arms. No one was able to talk to him, come near him, or even
touch him.
William and his mother had been watching us from their regular spot
in the corner of the yard far away from everyone. His mother would tell me
later that, while they were watching, she heardWilliam softly say "May."
Shocked to hear him speak, she repeated back to him, "Yes, honey,
that's May." A moment later, he didn't wander far from his mother, but he
did take a few steps away from her, standing by himself as he watched May
play with the other children.
Two weeks passed, and each time we came, the same thing happened.
William would come out to the yard, stand on his own, and watch May with
the other children; no words, no playing, just observing.
One rainy day, we were unable to play outside, so we held the play
session in the arts-and-crafts room. Moments later, the door opened, and
William stood there with his mother. He immediately left his mother's side
and went to a small, carpeted area away from all the other children and
May.
续写部分
Paragraph1:May's attention turned from the other children to
William.
Paragraph2:The very next weekend, we saw a change in William
again.

With light pollution increasing by 10%every year, fewer and fewer people have regular
access to a truly dark night sky.Preserving dark skies is essential for all living things, and being a
respectful astrotourist helps you play a part in protecting our planet for future generations-here's
how to do it responsibly.
Where and when to go stargazing(观星)
The ideal stargazing locations are far from city lights, with unblocked views of the horizon.
Mountains, deserts and remote islands are good choices, thanks to their isolation, clear conditions
and lack of light pollution.Winter is the best time of year because there are longer hours of
darkness, and the air tends to be clearer.
高二英语试卷·第2页(共8页)
Whether it is worth joining a stargazing tour
A guide can provide equipment and valuable information, helping you spot planets,
constellations and deep-sky objects that you might otherwise miss. Some destinations, such as
observatories in Chile or New Zealand, even offer night-time viewing sessions on professional-grade
telescopes.
What to bring on a stargazing trip
Night-time tempcratures can drop significantly, especially in desert or mountain locations.
Dress in layers and bring a good pair of gloves and a hat, even in warmer climates.Though your
eyes are all you really need, binoculars on a tripod can be surprisingly effective and cost-friendly
for observing nearby objects like our moon and the rings of Saturn.
Dark sky requirement
Be respectful of other stargazers by using only red torch lights, which protect our night vision
and protect wildlife.Don't shine torches or phone screens at others-it can take 20 minutes for
your eyes to re-adjust to the darkness after exposure to light.
21.Which is the ideal location for stargazing?
A.The deserts in winter.
B.The cities with less pollution.
C.The mountains during the day.
D.The remote islands in summer.
22.What are stargazers required to do?
A.Wear fewer clothes.
B.Bring professional cameras.
C.Record observations in detail.
D.Show respect to others and wildlife.
23.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To promote stargazing tours.
B.To compare stargazing locations.
C.To guide responsible stargazing.
D.To explain stargazing rules to beginners.

It has been four years since Tina Jones,an owner of a New Zealand interior-design business,
launched a plan to motivate others to join her in supporting good causes. She gets a lot out of
volunteering because it not only helps those on the receiving end,but it also makes her happy. So
happy, she is opening up volunteering possibilities to others, too.
Tina called on about 40 women in her neighbourhood to join a Facebook Messenger group
she established,aiming to help others.When Tina identifies a need,she sends out a message.Her
home then becomes a drop-off point for Foodbank essentials, items for the homeless, and supplies
needed by the Women's Refuge.
"Essentially,I am saying 'Hey,this is happening.If you have capacity,jump on board.'And
the response is always fantastic,"Tina says."It opens up giving possibilities to people and makes
it easy for them-it provides a vehicle for people to give without having to think for themselves.
People can say 'yep,great,can do,done.""
Yet Tina admits it's an "aperiodic"way of helping, because she doesn't have something to
regularly volunteer for."I have no that capacity available right now.But I didn't find this hard to
initiate as I'm a communicator,"she adds.
"Collectively,we are making something better for someone, whatever that may be.We are
spreading good in all sorts of directions. And we've built friendship through this.It makes me feel
very happy to be doing some good, especially when times are so hard for many."
24.Why does Tina encourage others to join her in volunteering?
A.The group needs more people to donate money.
B.She desires to share happiness and its possibility.

Forests give us water-and the healthiest forests do this best. When forests are healthy, they
offer more for the birds and animals and they filter (our water. But Westem forests aren't as
healthy as they once were. That's because something has been missing from a lot of our forests,
and that is fire.
For many decades,a widespread fear of wildfires led to a simple mind:When a fire was
spotted, firefighting crews were instantly sent to put out every new forest fire by ten o'clock the
next momning. However,we need to change the "10 a.m.rule"because fire has a natural role in
Western forests.Without fire, forests that were historically more open and even sort of park-like
become overgrown with too many trees.
Now,when fires burst out in these crowded forests, they burn hotter, kill more trees and leave
the ground exposed. This sends ash into downstream waterways-and they can do great harm and
knock out water supplies for days, months or even years.
Fortunately, through long traditions of working with fire and a systematic process of
experimentation and observation, fire practitioners have built a tremendous body of knowledge
about how a natural fire cycle brings a forest back to life.A natural low-intensity fire is like a reset
switch for a forest-preventing out-of-control wildfires in the future.
Scientists have already identified the towns and cities all throughout the West where restoring
nearby forests, with methods like setting fires intentionally and cutting a select number of trees to
restore ecological balance, can keep sources of clean drinking water safe.
Today,we're working with partners to restore Western forests in the United States and
Canada. We promise to do all we can, both on the ground and in policy,to bring balance back to
even more forests and keep drinking water safe.
28.What effect may the“10a.m.ule”have?
A.It may lead to species extinction.
B.It may leave forests overcrowded.
C.It may cause waterways to dry up.
D.It may increase the frequency of fires.
29.What can be inferred about natural low-intensity fires from the text?
A.They destroy the balance of forest ecosystem.
B.They help prevent severe wildfires in the future.
C.They require human intervention to control their spread.
D.They leave the ground exposed and harm water supplies.
30.What is the author's attitude toward restoring Western forests?
A.Confident.
B.Doubtful.
C.Unclear.
D.Cautious.

Chinese scientists at Westlake University in Zhejiang province have made an exciting
discovery in solar power. They have created an extremely thin and flexible type of solar cell that
can turn sunlight into electricity with a record efficiency of 23.4 percent. These cells, about as
thick as a human hair, use two special materials to capture sunlight:perovskite (and
copper indium gallium selenide(CIGS,铜铟镓硒).
Imagine a single perovskite solar cell as a single-layer cake. Now,think of a tandem
solar cell as a cake with multiple layers, each with a different flavor. Each layer of this cake can
"catch"specific parts of sunlight. This allows the tandem solar cell to absorb more sunlight and
turn it into electricity more efficiently than the "single-layer"ones,making it better than
traditional solar cells.
In late 2023,researchers Tian Liuwen and Wang tried new ways to coat the material. After
months of testing, they found a way to create a uniform perovskite layer. This breakthrough
improved efficiency and made it ready for real-world use.
These thin cells could completely change how we use solar power.Because they're flexible,
you can put them on all sorts of curved surfaces, such as car roofs, building facades,or even
clothing. They are also much lighter than traditional solar panels, which makes them cheaper and
easier to transport and set up.This is a significant advantage, especially for space missions.
With many countries around the world trying to reduce carbon emissions, these efficient,
lightweight solar cells could play a vital role in moving away from fossil fuels. It seems that
something as thin as a hair could help us solve some of the world's biggest challenges.
32.Which of the following can best describe the new solar cell?
A.Heavy but extremely practical.
B.Hard and thick as a human hair.
C.Thin,flexible,and highly efficient.
D.Expensive but much easier to set up.
33.Why does the author mention"cake"in paragraph 2?
A.To emphasize the high cost of materials.
B.To suggest the cells are easily damaged.
C.To criticize the complexity of the solar cell.
D.To explain the function of the layered structure.
34.What is the primary focus of paragraph 4?
A.Technical coating methods.
B.Limitations of traditional panels.
C.Possible applications and advantages.
D.Historical development of solar cells.
35.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Carbon emissions can be ended by the discovery.
B.The solar cell has a promising and potential future.
C.Fossil fuels can be stopped due to the breakthrough.
D.The solar cell has been widely used in space missions.

Ways to Motivate Yourself to Go to the Gym
Got a New Year's resolution to go to the gym more often?Being active has many benefits for
heart health,sleep quality,brain function,and much more.36Here are a few tips to
help you stick to your goals.
Dress for a workout
In many ways, pulling on a sweatshirt or a pair of yoga pants is even more important than
heading out the door to go to the gym.Research has suggested that our brains are easily influenced
by "enclothed cognition,"a technical way of saying that dressing for the part can help fuel your
ambition to complete a chosen task.37
38
If you are looking to get active, please go to the gym and invest time in it.The downside of
aimless visits is that you may skip them in the process toward a goal. After a break-in period,it's
best to think about your initial plan and the finish line-losing weight, increasing endurance,
adding muscle,or a mix of each.
Consider working with a trainer
Certified fitness instructors add a lot of value.39 He shows you how to use
equipment, and provide tips on nutrition. You may find you don't need their assistance for long,
but having them present while you start out could drive you to stick with it.
Take time to recover
40 Actually, your body's desire for rest will beat your iron will, and it's better to
set aside some recovery time, whether that means doing nothing or just temporarily turning your
activity level down. That way, you'll avoid being too tired to tackle your next session.
A.Make a gym plan.
B.Make a workout commitment.
C.However,it's not easy to go to the gym.
D.It can be helpful to have a reliable partner.
E.An expert can design a program based on your goals.
F.If you're in full workout suit, you're more likely to head out the door.
G.You may think that hitting the gym every day leaves no room for laziness.

children in need.A young mother and her four-year-old son had come to the shelter where they
had stayed for several weeks but the little boy William, hadn't spoken since their arrival.
Every Saturday,May and I would visit and play with the children who were staying in the
shelter with their mothers. And,every week,William and his mother would come to watch but
never participate. We had tried to engage with William when he first arrived at the shelter, but he
never left his mother's arms.No one was able to talk to him, come near him,or even touch him.
William and his mother had been watching us from their regular spot in the comner of the yard
far away from everyone. His mother would tell me later that, while they were watching, she heard
William softly say "May".
Shocked to hear him speak, she repeated back to him,"Yes,honey, that's May."A moment
later,he didn't wander far from her mother, but he did take a few steps away from her, standing by
himself as he watched May play with the other children.
Two weeks passed, and each time we came, the same thing happened.William would come
out to the yard, stand on his own,and watch May with the other children;no words,no playing,
just observing.
One rainy day,we were unable to play outside,so we held the play session in the
arts-and-crafts room.Moments later,the door opened,and William stood there with his mother.He

Dear Eric,
I hope this email finds you well! On behalf of our group, I’m writing to introduce the poster on first aid. Here come the details.
To begin with, the poster consists of the headline, illustrations and step-by-step guidance to deal with various injuries during physical exercise, ranging from sprained ankle to scratches, which will undoubtedly help students have a clear picture of how to give first aid correctly. What’s worth mentioning is that we list some first-aid necessities and something students need to pay attention to when exercising, hoping they can better students’ understanding of injuries prevention.
Believing there’s still room for improvement, we sincerely hope you could spare some time to go through our first draft and offer us guidance to make it more comprehensive and practical.
Thank you for your time! We are looking forward to your advice.
Yours,
Li Hua

听力原文
Text 1
W: It’s rush hour now. I can’t get a taxi.
M: When the traffic is bad, a bicycle really comes into its own.
W: I can’t ride a bike. I’ll search for the closest subway station.
Text 2
W: This room faces the street, but it’s surprisingly quiet. We can have a good rest tonight.
M: Yes. Sitting on the plane for 2 hours was really boring. Well, I can’t wait to try some local food.
W: Maybe we can ask the front desk for some recommendations.
Text 3
W: The heat in our factory is unbearable, even if the air conditioners are on all day.
M: Yeah. I have a watermelon shake every afternoon these days.
W: I’m not into watermelons, but I do have some homemade ice cream these days.
Text 4
W: I went to a park yesterday and drew a picture of some kids singing under a big tree.
M: It seems that you have a passion for drawing.
W: Yes. I’ve taken some art lessons this semester. I want to be an artist one day.
M: If you act with your determination, I believe you can do that.
Text 5
W: Terry, long time no see. You’ve lost a lot of weight!
M: Yes. I’ve been doing exercise and dieting these days.
W: Your efforts paid off. By the way, I’m sure curly brown hair will look better on your current figure.
M: Really? I’ll give it a shot.
Text 6
W: We’ve been standing in line for half an hour!
M: Take it easy. It’ll be our turn soon. You brought your ID card, right? I reminded you on the phone last night.
W: Oh my God! I put it into my red handbag after I hung up. But this morning I took this blue handbag, because it goes better with my coat.(6)
M: You can’t get a bank card without your ID card.(7) Let’s drive to your place and get it.
W: It’s just not my day!
Text 7
W: Good afternoon, everyone! Today in our studio, we have Mr. Scott Hunter—an English and music teacher from Buxton School, with us. Welcome, Mr. Hunter!
M: Thank you for having me.
W: Mr. Hunter, we’ve heard about Buxton’s unique experiment of banning smartphones on campus. Can you tell us some details?
M: Sure. Instead of smartphones, everyone, including the staff, was given a Light Phone—a basic device with limited functions. It can make calls and send texts, but it can’t load modern applications. (8)
W: Do you consider the experiment a success?
M: Yes. I believe we’ve found an effective way to address the challenges posed by smartphones.
W: How have the students responded to this change?
M: Initially, they had mixed feelings, but as time went on, the students realized that the experiment had a positive effect on their studies. Most of them have become more concentrated in class. (9)
W: That’s impressive. What do you think is the main positive outcome?
M: The students have more conversations during lunch. They seem to believe in each other more than before.
Text 8
M: Hey, Sarah! How time flies! We haven’t seen each other for 3 years. (10) (11)
W: Yeah. I made a big change in my life over the past 2 years.
M: Really? What happened?
W: Well, after working for a financial company in a big city, I returned to my hometown. I realized the potential of my hometown, which is rich in fruit production. With the rise of online streaming and e-commerce, I started selling our local fresh fruits through live broadcasts.(12)
M: How was it going?
W: Surprisingly well! I not only established my own business but also helped the local people make more money by connecting them to a broader market.
M: You’re making a positive impact! Your hometown is very beautiful, and promoting eco-tourism here would also be possible.
W: Good idea. Oh, unconsciously, we’ve been chatting for a while. Let me take you to my house to drop off your luggage first, and then we can go and check out the fruitful fruit trees.(13)
M: OK.
Text 9
W: Hi, Bill. You look troubled.(14) What’s the matter?
M: Hi, Grace. I have a big decision to make. My uncle offered me a job as the lead engineer at a service station and with good pay.(14)
W: That’s wonderful, but are you going to quit college?(15)
M: That’s exactly the problem.(14) One side of me says, “Oh, go ahead! You can go back to college anytime. What job could you get after college that would pay you $15 an hour? That’s $30,000 a year!”
W: And then?
M: And then, the other side says,“Hold it, not so fast! For all those years you were in the army, you planned to go to college so that you would have many job possibilities to choose from. You’ve planned your whole life around going to college. And now…”
W: I can see it. It’s true that with your experience in the army, you could do excellent work repairing cars if you accept the job. But you are doing very well now. Just think of the future. You will get better jobs.(16)
Text 10
W: Today, let’s begin with note-taking techniques. Note-taking is an important skill not only for taking classes, but also for doing your job in the future.(17) I’d like to draw your attention to certain points about taking notes. First, remember that note-taking should be 75% listening and only 25% writing, so don’t try to write down every single word the teacher says.(18) Ignore what is unimportant and write in phrases not complete sentences. Second, leave spaces and lines between main ideas. You may want to add some information later. I find that some of you are very good at making use of color, mapping web and symbols such as arrows, circles and boxes. I highly recommend these tools to all of you, because the use of them makes the outline more easily readable and interesting than the blocks of text.(19) It also makes sure that important words stand out. Here are some examples.(20)
