My mom’s company sent her there on business. It was great! After we arrived in Cusco, we took a train to visit Machu Picchu. What is Machu Picchu? Well, it is the remains of an ancient Inca city. It is on top of a mountain that overlooks the Urubamba River. It is more than 7,000 feet above sea level! How did we get up that high? We could have hiked the Inca Trail(印加古道) for four days. Instead, we decided to ride the train. It runs right along the river. It takes only a few hours. Our guide was a man from the local area. Not only did he provide information about the area, he also worked as our translator. Some of the people of Peru speak Quechua, which of course we don’t understand. As we rode the train, our guide pointed out unknown plants that grow in the rain forest. The plants, which grow near the floor of the rain forest, was so thick that I could hardly imagine trying to get through it back in 1911. That was when Hiram Bingham, the man who searched for the city, started his expedition(探险). We also learned about the animals. There are some dangerous snakes that live there. One bite can kill a person. It must have been quite a journey that Bingham took! His trip was well worth it, in my opinion. Machu Picchu was so big and beautiful! The stones have gone through the test of time. They have been there since the 1400s. There were terraces(梯田) cut into the sides of the mountain, and green was everywhere. To top it all off, we were in the clouds! We saw where the people lived, where they worshipped, and where they farmed. The history is fascinating! 1. How did the writer go to Machu Picchu with her parents? A. By plane. B. By boat. C. On foot. D. By train. 2. In which order did the writer do in her journey? a. Arrived in Cusco. b. Get up to Machu Picchu. c. Learned about animals.           d. Get to know some plants. A. a–b–c–d B. a–d–c–b C. b–c–d–a D. b–d–a–c 3. In Paragraph 4, why is Hiram Bingham mentioned mainly? A. It shows how difficult and dangerous it is to go through the rain forest. B. It shows how crazy he was to start the expedition in the rain forest. C. It shows how knowledgeable the writer is to know about Hiram Bingham. D. It shows how worth it was for Hiram Bingham to take the trip. 4. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 5 refer to? A. Snakes B. Stones. C.Terraces D. Clouds 重难点单词 音标 词性 中文释义 remain /rɪˈmeɪn/ n. 迷人的;极有趣的 长难句解析 原句:(第四段第二句)The plants, which grow near the floor of the rain forest, was so thick that I could hardly imagine trying to get through it back in 1911. The plants were so thick... 是主句,which grow near the floor of the rain forest是非限制性定语从句,补充说明植物的生长位置。so...that... Passage B(丽江古城) The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site,so a lot of tourists from all over the world visit it every year. Last summer, I went to Lijiang with my friend Zhang Yi. Lijiang is a small city in the southwest of China. It has a history of over 800 years, dating back to the Song Dynasty. The most famous place in Lijiang is the Lijiang Old Town, known for its historic buildings,I thought the Lijiang Old Town was a great place to visit, but Zhang Yi did not agree. He said the development of tourism had made the old town less "old"any more. Zhang Yi complained(抱怨)that the Old Town of Lijiang was not the town it used to be, it has become too commercial with many hotels, shops, and restaurants for tourists. Also the town is crowded, making it difficult to enjoy the scenery around Lijiang. However, in my opinion, I think it is OK that Lijiang has made some changes. Thanks to tourism, the government spends more time and money protecting all the traditional buildings. And tourism helps the economy to develop. So it's a win-win situation-the people there make more money and tourists get a beautiful place to visit. Things often have two sides. The good side of Lijiang is that its traditional buildings are being well protected. while the bad side is that its traditional way of life has almost disappeared. 1. What is the status of the Old Town of Lijiang according to UNESCO? __________________________________________________________________________ 2. Who did the author visit Lijiang with, and which dynasty does Lijiang's history date back to? __________________________________________________________________________ 3. Why does Zhang Yi think the Old Town of Lijiang is no longer authentic? Give two reasons. __________________________________________________________________________ 4. What are the two benefits of tourism in Lijiang according to the author?** ①_________________________ ②___________________________ 5. What are the "two sides" of Lijiang mentioned in the passage? The good side: ____________________________________ The bad side: ____________________________________ 重难点单词 音标 词性 中文释义 UNESCO /juːˈneskəʊ/ n. 经济;节约 长难句解析 原句:(第三段第二句)Thanks to tourism, the government spends more time and money protecting all the traditional buildings. 分析:“Thanks to...” “spend time/money (in) doing sth.” “protecting...” 例句 ① Thanks to the new policy, more students can go to college.(由于新政策,更多学生能上大学。) 例句 ② She spends two hours practicing piano every day.(她每天花两小时练习钢琴。) “spend... 1.Climbing mountains is not just about reaching the top, but also about finding a braver self. Passage 3 (2025江苏·常州·一模)What man-made objects in China can be seen from space? They don’t include the Great Wall of course, which is mostly no wider than a country road; but surely include the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces Hacked (开辟) from mountains in Yunnan province, the terraces spread over more than 160 square kilometers to create one of the most amazing landscapes on the planet. “ Since ancient times, the local Hani people have built ditches (沟渠) to pass spring water from mountains and forests to water terraced fields,” said a local guide. “The number of ditches required has been huge. It needs a great deal of manpower.” It is believed that the Hani people arrived in the Ailao Mountains around the third century, having moved south from the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau (高地). They were so impressed by what they found there—rich land, mild climate, plentiful rainfall—they chose to put down roots. Hani farmers began carving the terraces by hand during the Tang Dynasty. Some are as big as football fields, and others no larger than a bed. The terraces climb from 500 meters to 1,800 meters above sea level. They’re “stairways to heaven”. However, the Hani’s engineered wonder remained largely hidden from the rest of the world for centuries. Nobody paid much attention to them until the 2000s. The local government managed to get them highlighted on UNESCO’s World Heritage (遗产) List in 2013. Though the terraces shine with bright green in the summer growing season, the landscape is at its most photogenic (上镜的) from November to late April, when the waterlogged terraces become natural mirrors that reflect (折射) every sunrise and sunset, with farmers and water buffalo (水牛) walking by from time to time. 1. The Honghe Hani Rice Terraces ________. When does the Hani Rice Terraces look the most beautiful in photographs? A.In winter. B.From autumn to spring. C.In late spring. D.During the summer growing season. 3. Why didn’t the Hani Rice Terraces come to light until the 2000s? A.Because the government didn’t support it. B.Because people couldn’t get there easily. C.Because there were not enough reports about them. D.Because the local people were unwilling to be discovered. 4. What may be the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the Honghe Hani Rice Terraces? ①A place worth visiting and enjoying. ②One common nice tourist attraction in China. ③An amazing man-made wonder. ④ A site showing Chinese people’s greatness. ⑤A useful area full of history and wisdom. ⑥ A wonderful place not known by the world. 根据“After we arrived in Cusco, we took a train to visit Machu Picchu.” 根据“After we arrived in Cusco, we took a train to visit Machu Picchu.”可知作者先到达Cusco,排除C和D;根据“As we rode the train, our guide pointed out unknown plants that grow in the rain forest.”和“We also learned about the animals.” 根据“The plants, which grow near the floor of the rain forest, was so thick that I could hardly imagine trying to get through it back in 1911.”和“We also learned about the animals. There are some dangerous snakes that live there.” 故选A. 4. 根据“The stones have gone through the test of time.” Passage B(丽江古城) The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site,so a lot of tourists from all over the world visit it every year. Last summer, I went to Lijiang with my friend Zhang Yi. 1. The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 2. The author visited Lijiang with his/her friend Zhang Yi, and its history dates back to the Song Dynasty. 3. It has become too commercial with many hotels, shops, and restaurants for tourists. The town is crowded, making it difficult to enjoy the scenery. 4. ① The government spends more time and money protecting traditional buildings. ② Tourism helps the economy develop, allowing locals to earn more money. 5. The good side: Its traditional buildings are being well protected. The bad side: Its traditional way of life has almost disappeared. 1.Climbing mountains is not just about reaching the top, but also about finding a braver self. 1. A.were built with the help of the local government B.are the only man-made object that can be seen from space C.were carved by Hani farmers on the Qinghai-Xizang plateau D.were created to bring water down from the forests to the farmland 2. 4.
