I heard he bought it when he married Mum, which made the comb two years older than I was. Every night, he would smile, hand me the comb and say, “Be a good girl and help Daddy clean it, Ok?” I was more than happy to do it. At age five this simple task brought me such joy. I would excitedly turn the tap (水龙头) on, then brush the comb with a used toothbrush as hard as I could. Satisfied that I’d done a good job, I would proudly return the comb to Dad. He would smile at me and place the comb on top of his wallet. About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to change. He didn’t come home as much as he used to — just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be in bed. I started to get mad. I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him. Today, I’m no longer a kid. I’ve graduated from college and got a job. Dad’s business has got back on track. Things are better now. Yet the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me persisted. Two days before my birthday last year, Dad came home early. As usual, I helped him carry his bags into his study. When I turned to leave, he said, “Hey, would you like to help me clean my comb?” I looked at him a while, then took the comb and headed to the sink. I passed the clean comb back to Dad. He looked at it and smiled. But this time, I noticed something different. My dad has aged. He has wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiles, yet his smile is still as heartwarming as before. The smile of a father who just wants a good life for his family. Dad carefully placed his comb on top of his wallet. After so many years, he still organizes his personal items in the same careful way. I guess some things never change. And for that, I’m glad. 4. What caused the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me? A. My ignorance of Dad. B. Dad’s failure in business. C. Generation gap. D. Dad’s absence from the family. 5. Which of the following can best describe Dad? A. Mild and generous. B. Tough and intelligent. C. Diligent and caring. D. Hardworking and humble. 6. Why did Dad ask his daughter to clean his comb before her birthday? A. To follow his old habit. B. To tell her a lesson. C. To bridge their gap. D. To celebrate her birthday. 7. Which saying concludes the text best? A. Let bygones be bygones B. Yesterday once more. C. Some things never change. D. Like father, like daughter. D 5. C 6. C 7. 根据第三段中“He didn’t come home as much as he used to — just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be in bed. I started to get mad. I stopped waiting for him to come home, and stopped going downstairs to check on him. (他不像以前那样经常回家了——一周只回来几次。当他回家的时候,总是很晚,而我已经上床睡觉了。我开始生气。我不再等他回家,也不再下楼去看他了。)”可知,父亲经常不在家,这是导致父女之间沉默的原因。故选D。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“About two years later, Dad left his sales job and started his own wholesale business. I started primary school. That was when things started to change. He didn’t come home as much as he used to-just a couple of times a week. And when he did come home, it was always late and I’d already be in bed. (大约两年后,爸爸辞去了销售的工作,开始自己创业做批发生意。我也开始上小学了。从那时起,事情开始发生了变化。他不再像以前那样经常回家了,一周只回来几次。而且,就算他回家了,也总是很晚,那时我都已经上床睡觉了。)”可知,父亲很勤奋努力;根据倒数第二段中“He has wrinkles next to his eyes when he smiles, yet his smile is still as heartwarming as before. The smile of a father who just wants a good life for his family. (他笑的时候,眼角有了皱纹,但他的笑容依然和以前一样温暖人心。这是一个只想让家人过上好日子的父亲的笑容。)”可知,父亲想要给家人好的生活,父亲很体贴家人。由此可知,“勤奋和体贴”最能描述父亲。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“I passed the clean comb back to Dad. (去年我生日的前两天,爸爸早早地回家了。像往常一样,我帮他把包拿进了书房。当我转身准备离开时,他说:‘嘿,你愿意帮我清理一下梳子吗?’我看了他一会儿,然后接过梳子,走向水槽。)”以及最后一段中“After so many years, he still organizes his personal items in the same careful way. I guess some things never change. And for that, I’m glad. (这么多年过去了,他仍然小心翼翼地整理自己的私人物品。我想有些事情永远不会改变。为此,我很高兴。)”可推知,父亲让女儿在生日前清理梳子,是为了拉近他们之间的差距。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中“After so many years, he still organizes his personal items in the same careful way. I guess some things never change. And for that, I’m glad. (这么多年过去了,他仍然小心翼翼地整理自己的私人物品。我想有些事情永远不会改变。为此,我很高兴。)”可知,文章核心主题是强调某些事物(如父爱)永恒不变;C选项“Some things never change.(有些事情是永远不会改变的)”最好地总结了这篇文章。故选C。 C The rise of vertical farming (垂直农业) — growing crops in stacked layers indoors — has been regarded as a solution to lack of food and limited land. By controlling light, temperature, and nutrients precisely, these high-tech farms can produce crops year-round with minimal water and no pesticides. Advocators highlight several advantages. First, vertical farms use up to 95% less water than traditional agriculture by recycling irrigation systems. Second, they eliminate (消除) the need for long-distance transportation since they can be built near urban centers, reducing carbon emissions. A 2022 study in Nature Food found that vegetables grown in vertical farms had a carbon footprint 50%smaller than field-grown ones. However, critics argue that the high energy costs of artificial lighting and climate control ruin these benefits. A report from the University of Michigan estimated that vertical farms consume 30% more energy than conventional greenhouses. Additionally, the initial investment is prohibitive for small-scale farmers, with startup costs often exceeding $10 million per facility. Despite these challenges, companies like Plenty and AeroFarms continue to expand, driven by demand for locally grown, pesticide-free produce. Some experts predict that vertical farming could supply 10%of the world’s leafy greens by 2030. 8. What is the primary purpose of vertical farming? A. To replace traditional farms completely. B. To grow crops efficiently in limited spaces. C. To decrease the use of pesticides. D. To focus on decorative plants. 9. According to the text, how does vertical farming help the environment? A. By reducing transportation-related emissions. B. By using more water to ensure crop growth. C. By relying entirely on natural sunlight. D. By expanding farms into rural centers. 10. What is a major drawback of vertical farming mentioned in the passage? A. It cannot grow leafy vegetables. B. It requires excessive energy consumption. C. It is suitable for rural areas. D. It produces lower-quality crops than traditional farming 11. What is the author’s tone toward the future of vertical farming? A. Doubtful. B. Negative C. Optimistic. D. Indifferent. B 9. A 10. B 11. 根据第一段“The rise of vertical farming (垂直农业) — growing crops in stacked layers indoors — has been regarded as a solution to lack of food and limited land. By controlling light, temperature, and nutrients precisely, these high-tech farms can produce crops year-round with minimal water and no pesticides.(垂直农业(即在室内分层种植作物)的兴起被视为解决粮食短缺和土地有限问题的方案。通过精确控制光照、温度和养分,这些高科技农场能够全年不间断地生产农作物,且用水量极少,无需使用农药)”可知,垂直农业的主要目的是在有限的空间内高效种植作物。故选B。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“Second, they eliminate (消除) the need for long-distance transportation since they can be built near urban centers, reducing carbon emissions.(其次,由于可以建在城市中心附近,所以无需进行长途运输,从而减少了碳排放)”可知,垂直农业通过减少与运输相关的排放对环境产生积极影响,故选A。 根据倒数第二段中“However, critics argue that the high energy costs of artificial lighting and climate control ruin these benefits. A report from the University of Michigan estimated that vertical farms consume 30% more energy than conventional greenhouses.(然而,批评者认为,人工照明和气候控制所需的高昂能源成本会抵消这些好处。密歇根大学的一份报告估计,垂直农场的能源消耗比传统温室高出 30%)”可知,垂直农业的主要缺点是需要消耗大量的能源。故选B。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Despite these challenges, companies like Plenty and AeroFarms continue to expand, driven by demand for locally grown, pesticide-free produce. Some experts predict that vertical farming could supply 10%of the world’s leafy greens by 2030.(尽管面临诸多挑战,像Plenty和AeroFarms这样的公司仍继续扩张,其发展动力源于对本地种植、无农药污染农产品的需求。一些专家预测,到2030年,垂直农业将能供应全球10%的绿叶蔬菜)”可推知,作者对于垂直农业的未来持乐观态度。故选C。 D While AI can beat us at chess, driving cars, and even composing music, making us laugh seems to be its final boundary. My musical comedy, Artificially Intelligent, was inspired by the time I asked AI to write me a show based on my life, and it gave me some madly terrible results. I performed some of its materials in the show, and I even made AI write a song for an audience member live on the spot, and it was always funny in its terribleness. It generated songs telling the audience member who is a doctor to hit the eyes of her co-worker who she is always arguing with. However, this wasn’t independent thinking; we had to feed AI as much information as possible to get any results from it. When it comes to actually getting AI to craft jokes on its own, it can’t. The problem with AI and comedy is its lack of human nuance (细微差别) for humor. AI might be able to create a joke structure but it does not have the ability to pull from personal experience. It lacks a point of view, situational awareness, context, and cultural awareness needed for good comedy. Irony (讽刺) a complex form of human communication, is hard for AI because of its reliance on context, tone, and cultural knowledge. Unlike humans, AI can’t infer meaning beyond clear statements. Irony involves saying one thing but meaning another, relying on shared context, but AI only processes text and can’t pick up audio and visual cues for irony. AI must signal it’s making a joke. As of now, though Al has made impressive progress in some areas, it is absolutely not funny, but in the future theoretically yes. When technology advances to the point where robots are walking around with free will and independent thinking, experiencing life and potentially even emotions, they would theoretically begin to have enough viewpoints to create comedy, or an activity that voices their experience of being an Al. However, this would create its own culture and would only be relatable to other AIs. The truth is that audience is really enjoying the AI-generated material in my show, even if the joke is bad. But-technically-does that make it funny? 12. How does the author show AI’s limitation in making jokes in Paragraph 2? A. By making a comparison. B. By showing a survey result. C. By giving an example. D. By providing data. 13. What can we know in Paragraph 3? A. AI can create a joke actually. B. AI often understands meaning based on the context. C. AI can perform better than humans. D. AI can deal with irony well. 14. What does the author think of AI in the future? A. It will be free to express others’ feelings. B. It will develop its own culture of humor. C. It will relate its culture to humans. D. It will teach itself the theory of comedy. 15. Which can be a suitable title for this passage? A. Will AI ever be funny? B. Will AI be the pioneer in new fields? C. Is AI the future of entertainment? D. Is AI going to learn to laugh? C 13. B 14. B 15. 根据第二段中“I performed some of its materials in the show, and I even made AI write a song for an audience member live on the spot, and it was always funny in its terribleness. 根据第三段中“Irony (讽刺) a complex form of human communication, is hard for AI because of its reliance on context, tone, and cultural knowledge. Unlike humans, AI can’t infer meaning beyond clear statements. (讽刺是一种复杂的人类交流形式,由于其依赖于语境、语气和文化知识,人工智能很难掌握。与人类不同,人工智能无法从明确的陈述中推断出更深层的含义。)”以及“AI only processes text and can’t pick up audio and visual cues for irony. (人工智能只能处理文本,无法捕捉讽刺所需的音频和视觉线索。)”可知,虽然讽刺依赖于语境,但AI无法从明确陈述之外推断含义,且只能处理文本,不过从侧面反映出AI经常根据语境来理解含义。故选B。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“As of now, though Al has made impressive progress in some areas, it is absolutely not funny, but in the future theoretically yes. 通读全文,尤其是第一段中“While AI can beat us at chess, driving cars, and even composing music, making us laugh seems to be its final boundary. (虽然人工智能可以在下棋、开车甚至作曲方面打败我们,但让我们发笑似乎是它的最终界限。)”以及最后一段中“The truth is that audience is really enjoying the AI-generated material in my show, even if the joke is bad. But-technically-does that make it funny? (事实是,观众真的很喜欢我节目中人工智能生成的材料,即使笑话很糟糕。但从技术上讲,这算有趣吗?)”可知,文章主要讨论了人工智能是否能够变得有趣,即能否制造出让人发笑的幽默。故选A。 Not all great travelers are great planners. Joe could see an old lady on the side of the road waiting for help. So he stopped his car and got out of his car. When he came closer to her, the lady looked in despair. No one had stopped to help her for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn’t look safe. Joe could see that she was scared. Knowing how she felt, Joe said quickly. “I’m here to help you, ma’am. It is too cold outside. Please go and stay inside the car. By the way, my name is Joe.” Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. While Joe was changing the tire, the lady rolled down the window and started to talk to him. She told him that she was only passing through. She was very grateful that he came to help her. Joe just smiled as he put the flat tire in the trunk (后备箱). “How much do I owe you?” the lady asked, then adding that any amount would be all right. Joe, however, rejected the payment. “You don’t owe me a thing. I’m only passing through. Someone once helped me out. Just the way I’m helping you. If you want to pay me back, please pay it forward. Don’t let the chain (链条;连续) of love end with you.” Joe responded. He waited until the old lady had started her car and driven off. It had been a cold and depressing day, but Joe felt joyful as he set off for home. Paragraph1: A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph2: There were tables to clear and people to serve, but the pregnant (怀孕的) waitress felt a rush of warmth. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat. It was a dirty-looking restaurant. The lady noticed the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she always had a sweet smile. After the meal, she paid with a one hundred dollar bill. The waitress quickly went to get change, but the old lady had slipped right out of the door by the time she came back. The waitress wondered where the lady could be. Then she noticed something written on the napkin,“You don't owe me anything. Someone once helped me out the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here is what you do: Do not let this chain of love end with you.” Under the napkin were four more $100 bills. Totally touched, she failed to utter a single word, tears blurring her eyes. There were tables to clear and people to serve, but the pregnant waitress felt a rush of warmth. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could the lady have known how much she and her husband needed? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, “Everything is going to be all right”. It is then that the waitress decided to pass the chain of love on. 词汇激活 行为类 ①注意到:notice/spot/observe ②帮助:help/aid/assist ③回报:pay back/reward 情绪类 ①感动:moved/touched ②担忧的:worried/ anxious/concerned 【点睛】 [高分句型1] Totally touched, she failed to utter a single word, tears blurring her eyes.(过去分词作状语,独立主格结构) [高分句型2] That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written.(where限制性定语从句,what引导的宾语从句) [高分句型3] It is then that the waitress decided to pass the chain of love on.(强调句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 武汉市常青联合体2024-2025学年度第二学期期末考试 高一英语试卷 试卷满分:150分 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 1. 4 What caused the uncomfortable silence between Dad and me? A. My ignorance of Dad. B. Dad’s failure in business. C. Generation gap. D. Dad’s absence from the family. 5. C The rise of vertical farming (垂直农业) — growing crops in stacked layers indoors — has been regarded as a solution to lack of food and limited land. A. D While AI can beat us at chess, driving cars, and even composing music, making us laugh seems to be its final boundary. Not all great travelers are great planners. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
