Extended reading: Li Bai and his romantic poetry
学情分析:
Strengths
1.Have basic knowledge of Li Bai and Tang Dynasty culture, facilitating initial understanding of the text;
2.Have acquired common vocabulary and simple sentence structures.
Problems
1.Have difficulty fully understanding and analyze complex literary devices like exaggeration and metaphor used in Li Bai's poems.;
2.Have difficulty interpreting the social - historical context's influence on Li Bai's poetry.

1.Find out the textual structure of the essay ;
2.Sum up the causes that formed Li Bai’s romantic style in his poetry;
3. Give a list of the features of Li Bai’s romantic style;

Obtain the main information and details of the text by scanning and skimming.

Appreciate Li Bai’s poems and recognize his romantic style.

教学过程:
Step 1:Lead-in
1. T asks Ss to guess who the poet is according to the video.
1.)Who is the poet? Li Bai
2.)What is the name of this poem? 将进酒--- Invitation to wine
2. Have students match the famous Chinese poems with corresponding the English description.
【设计意图:利用观看李白的诗,引出话题,并通过匹配游戏激活学生背景知识,形成阅读期待。】
Step 2: Pre-reading
T asks Ss to predict what the article will talk about according to the title.
1) Why are his poems romantic?
2) What contribute to his romantic style?

Step 3: While-reading
1.Fast reading
Have Ss read the essay and then fill in the mind map to get the structure of the passage.
2.Careful reading
Activity 1:
Have Ss read paragraphs 2 to 4 and find out the information about what contributes to Li Bai’s romantic style.
Activity 2:
Have Ss read para.5 and find the the features of Li Bai’s romantic style poems.

Step 4: Post-reading
Poem-appreciation
1.Have Ss appreciate the two poems presented in the text through four aspects: theme; image;artistic techniques/romantic style;feeling.
2.Have Ss choose one of the three poems and have a brief introduction according to the following given format.
Introducing a poem of Li Bai:I wan to introduce the poem ___________________________. The poem tells us about ________________________________________________(theme 主题), which describes a picture of ______________________________(image意象), and "___________________________________________" show(s) Li Bai’s romantic style by using _________________________________________(artistic technique 艺术手法), showing the poet's________________________(feelings 感受、情绪).

Have a summary through the structure of the text and call on students to promote Li Bai’s poems.

Polish your introduction of Li Bai’s poems and finish the writing task.
