Greeting 2. Ask students to play a guessing game: let students guess who the scientist she/he is. 3. When it comes to Tu Youyou, ask students what they know about Tu rather than giving information to them. Step2. Pre-reading 1. Ask students to make predictions according to the headline and the illustration on textbook. 2. Guide students to know about one rule--5W1H--which helps them predicate before reading. Step3. While-reading 1. Fast-reading: ①Ask students to read the text for text type and structure and at the same time listen to the recording. ②Ask students to read again and match the main idea of each paragraph. 2. Careful-reading: ①Ask students to read Para.1 which is the lead of this news report in order to catch the most important information. ②Have students read Para.2-5 and complete the timeline of Tu’s personal experiences. ③Ask students to read Para.3-5 and to find the solutions to Tu and her team’s problems. ④Invite a few students to share their answers and then check students’ solutions. ⑤Let students read Para.6 and find the influences made by Tu and her team. Step4. Post-reading 1. Further thinking: ①Ask students what qualities Tu have as a successful scientist according to the details of the text. ②Share with students some other qualities of Tu. 2. Critical thinking: Ask students what motivation that makes Tu so devoted to her work is. Step5. Summary Sum up what students have learned this lesson. Step6. Homework 1. Revision: Ask students to read the passage again, and to share Tu Youyou’s story to their friends.
