I remember that it was a fall morning when the orchestra (管弦乐队) teachers came into Miss Newell’s third-grade classroom. “You have hands for the viola (中提琴),” Miss Ciano told me. I was excited because my hands were finally good for something. I told my parents I wanted to play, and naturally, they agreed.
Since I first touched the viola, I haven’t been able to put it down. Ignoring the difficulty, I am pulled closer to it each day.
Classical music is truly my best friend. It is the trusted friend of every man, woman and child. Various feelings are expressed in classical music. I discovered that when I was eleven and played a cello concerto (大提琴协奏曲) of Bach in a competition, the first movement was joyful, but the second movement was mysterious and full of pain. From the piece, I learned that music expresses not only feelings, but also sudden mood changes. By listening to classical music, I know that someone else shares these feelings. Since I am lucky enough to be able to play classical music, I am comforted by it when I am upset. It gives me a way to escape from my problems for a short period. Classical music can express my joy, sadness and anger.
Now look back at that fall day in the third grade and think how gullible I was for believing that anyone, even music teachers, could tell whether hands were perfect for a certain instrument. I’m certain they told me I had “viola hands” not because they were fortune-tellers, but because there was a lack of violists in our district. Classical music is one of the best things that ever happened to mankind. If you get introduced to it in the right way, it will become your friend for life.
24.What’s the main cause of the author’s interest in playing the viola?
A.Interesting musical classes. B.Beautiful viola sound.
C.Teachers’ proper guidance. D.Parents’ strong support.
25.According to the passage, in what way does classical music help the author?
A.By developing social skills. B.By building close relationship.
C.By broadening life experience. D.By giving emotional comfort.
26.What does the underlined word “gullible” mean in the last paragraph?
A.Easily tricked. B.Firmly loved. C.Greatly challenged. D.Secretly hidden.
27.Which could be the best title for the passage?
A.Special Event, Sweet Memory. B.Classical Music, Endless Friendship.
C.Lifetime Dream, Great effort. D.Happy Childhood, Unforgotten Experience.

Flamingo (火烈鸟) images are everywhere in Florida on tourist T-shirts, hotel names, and the Florida Lottery logo. However, real pink flamingos have been mostly gone from the state since the early 1900s, when hunters nearly wiped them out, seeking their stylish and valuable feathers (羽毛).
Now, however, flamingos seem to be returning to Florida. Birders recorded 101 wild American flamingo sightings across the state in February, according to recently released figures from Audubon Florida. Environmentalists believe many of these birds were carried into the state on the winds of storm in August 2023.
Flamingos have landed in Florida after storms in the past, but they usually don’t stay for too long. This time, birders and wildlife biologists all hope that the creatures can stay there.
In recent decades, people have sometimes seen flamingos in Florida, including a well-known flamingo named Conchy, who was rescued from an airport in the Florida Keys in 2015. The data showed Conchy moved all over the southern part of the state, teaching scientists more about flamingos in Florida in two years than was known in the previous 100 years, writes Lori Rozsa.
Meanwhile, environmentalists have been working to restore (恢复) the local wetland habitats (栖息地). In the Caribbean and Mexico, protection efforts have also helped increase the number of flamingo populations. Now, those efforts seem to be paying off.
This year, forecasters are predicting a particularly bad storms season. It remains to be seen what that will mean for Florida’s burgeoning flamingo population—and other bird species, more broadly.
There may be a few silver linings, however. After storms in September 2022, the number of shorebirds found wrapped in dangerous fishing line dropped by 58 percent in southwest Florida, since fishing piers were destroyed in the storm. “We never welcome storms here in Florida, but we did welcome some passengers,” Jerry Lorenz, director of research for Audubon Florida said.
28.What made pink flamingos almost disappear from Florida in the 1900s?
A.The loss of habitat. B.Tourism industry.
C.Frequent storms. D.The overhunting for their feathers.
29.What do we know about Conchy from paragraph 4?
A.It was born in the Florida Keys.
B.It was found in a zoo in southern Florida.
C.It gave scientists insights into flamingos’ behavior.
D.It never left the area where it was rescued.
30.What does the underlined phrase “silver linings” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Something easy. B.Something good.
C.Something popular. D.Something interesting.
31.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.The Impact of Storms on Florida’s Ecosystem
B.Climate Change and Its Effects on Flamingos
C.The Pink Phenomenon: Flamingos’ Impact on Florida’s Culture
D.Flamingos Return to Florida: Hope After Decades of Absence

With researchers suggesting that sitting is the new smoking, sit-stand desks (SSD) have become a common tool to interrupt long sitting in an office or classroom environment. As this furniture becomes popular, conflicting opinions have arisen on whether they can work as successfully as they are intended. Dr. April Chambers from the University of Pittsburgh worked with teammates to gather data from 3 studies and published a review article listing present information on the benefits of SSDs.
“There has been a great deal of scientific research about sit-stand desks in the past few years, but we have only scratched the surface of this topic,” said Chambers. I want to gather what we’ve known so far to figure out how we can use these desks to better benefit people in the workplace.
This work was done with Dr. Nancy A.Baker from Tufts University. The review examines the effects of a sit-stand desk in the following aspects: behavior, physiological(生理的), work performance, psychological, discomfort, and posture. Their work showed that using an SSD effectively got participants to sit less and stand more and that the device made users more comfortable at work. However, many frustrations (沮丧) with SSDs came from the physiological outcomes. According to the review, physiological effects were the most studied, but there were no significant results with regards to fatness.
There are many considerations about using an SSD most effectively, such as desk height, monitor height, and the amount of time to stand. Chambers believes that the overall arrangement of the workplace or study place and the amount of work are two factors that should be further studied.
Chambers noted that present research is limited because many of the studies were done with young and healthy subjects who were asked to use the desk for a week or a month at most. Since some of the significant benefits are with heart health or muscle discomfort, it may be beneficial to perform additional studies with middle-aged or overweight workers.
32.The arguments about SSDs mainly lie in .
A.their side effects B.their popularity
C.their practical results D.their original intentions
33.Why did Chambers publish the article?
A.To call on people to stand more. B.To suggest ways to better use SSDs.
C.To contradict the existing opinions. D.To find out the drawbacks of SSDs.
34.What’s the researchers’ attitude to SSDs’ physiological result?
A.Disappointed. B.Content. C.Positive. D.Indifferent.
35.What needs to be further examined according to Chambers?
A.The height of the desk and the monitor.
B.The time people spend in standing.
C.Behavior and psychological aspects.
D.A broader range of the participants.

You’ve likely come across the saying “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” It’s true, and quickly making a good impression on your teacher is an important part of having a successful school year. 36 Here are some ways to help you make a good impression.
37 Talk to the teacher for a minute or so if possible. This shows that you aren’t afraid to socialize and that you have confidence. Most teachers favor a confident student. Walk up to your teacher confidently, make eye contact, extend your hand, and say something you have in common.
Wear a cheerful expression. Smile at every reasonable opportunity. Teachers are fond of students who are full of joy. It is important to look like you’re enjoying yourself during class. Some people think “dressing for success” in order to make a good impression. 38
Keep a positive attitude. Whether in class or out of it, situations won’t always turn out as you wish. Don’t let temporary difficulties influence your mood and appearance, though. 39 Teachers find it easier to get along with a positive person. Negativity spreads, but being positive spreads, too.
Volunteer to help out. Don’t be shy. If the teacher asks for a volunteer to hand out study sheets or clean the chalkboard, raise your hand. And do it with a smile. 40 You can even offer to help out without the teacher asking for volunteers.
A.Come to class ready to learn.
B.Introduce yourself at the first opportunity.
C.Do your best to avoid complaining or frowning.
D.Show the teacher that you’re actively involved in class.

One morning, I sat in the back of the classroom, feeling nervous and restless. I had always been shy and hated being in the spotlight. I rarely participated in activities or spoke in class. That day, however, our teacher announced we would have a class assembly (集会) next week, and each class needed to select a student to give a short speech about the importance of honesty.
The room fell silent as my classmates looked at each other nervously. The teacher asked, “Who would like to volunteer?” She looked directly at me and I shook my head, hoping not to be chosen. But she smiled and pointed, saying, “You, Richard.” My heart raced. I wanted to say no, but I could feel everyone’s eyes on me. My face turned red and my hands were shaking, but I accepted the challenge.
After school, I still could not believe it. I rehearsed (排练) giving a speech on honesty in the empty classroom. Fear and excitement mixed inside me as I imagined all the students waiting for me. I knew it was a big challenge, but a small voice inside told me it could be a chance to change something.
The next morning, I bought a notebook and started writing the speech. I rehearsed each line in front of a mirror. My voice quivered (颤抖) at first, but slowly I gained courage. I wrote and rewrote the speech, remembering how honesty had helped me before. It felt strange but comforting to watch myself speak.
On the morning of the assembly, my knees shook backstage as I waited for my turn. Finally, the moment came and I walked up to the stage with sweaty hands but determined eyes. I took a deep breath and stepped forward. My heart was racing as I prepared to speak.

注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;

第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
A
【答案】21.B 22.C 23.A
【导语】这是一篇应用文。文章推荐了几款好用的睡眠音乐软件。
21.细节理解题。根据第三段第一句“Headspace is an app designed in the simplest way that makes it quick and easy to use its library of sleep-specific music, so it is friendly to the aged.(Headspace是一款以最简单的方式设计的应用程序,它可以快速方便地使用它的睡眠专用音乐库,所以它对老年人很友好。)”可知,适合向祖父母推荐的应用是Headspace。故选B。
22.细节理解题。根据第二段第三句“This app offers a free version, but to really take advantage of what Calm has to offer, you had better choose the paid version, which costs $69.99 for one year.(这款应用提供免费版本,但要真正利用Calm提供的功能,你最好选择付费版本,一年的费用为69.99美元。)”和第四段第三句“Though its free version provides a great introduction to the idea of sleep music, the paid version unlocks a larger library of sounds.(虽然它的免费版本提供了一个很好的睡眠音乐概念的介绍,但付费版本打开了一个更大的声音库。)”可知,Calm和Relax Melodies这两款应用都提供免费版本。故选C。
23.细节理解题。根据最后一段前三句“One thing that sets Pzizz apart is its voice narration (旁白), with male and female options available. Usually, the voice is low and calm. If you find the presence of a voice to be comforting or benefit from someone helping you to relax your mind and body, then Pzizz is suitable for you.(Pzizz与众不同的一点是它的语音叙述,有男性和女性两种选择。通常,声音低沉而平静。如果你发现一个声音的存在是安慰或受益于某人帮助你放松你的身心,那么Pzizz是适合你的。)”可知,使用Pzizz可以创建你喜欢的语音叙述。故选A。
B
【答案】24.C 25.D 26.A 27.B
【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者一个偶然的机会开始拉中提琴,感受到古典音乐对我们的情感带来的好处,并把它看作一生最诚挚的朋友的故事。
24.细节理解题。根据第一段““You have hands for the viola (中提琴),” Miss Ciano told me. I was excited because my hands were finally good for something.(“你的手很适合拉中提琴,”齐亚诺小姐对我说。我很兴奋,因为我的手终于有用武之地了)”可知,作者对演奏中提琴感兴趣的主要原因是教师的正确引导。故选C项。
25.细节理解题。根据第三段“By listening to classical music, I know that someone else shares these feelings. Since I am lucky enough to be able to play classical music, I am comforted by it when I am upset.(通过听古典音乐,我知道其他人也有同样的感受。因为我很幸运能够演奏古典音乐,所以当我心烦意乱的时候,我就会得到安慰)”可知,古典音乐可以给予作者情感上的安慰。故选D项。
26.词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“for believing that anyone, even music teachers, could tell whether hands were perfect for a certain instrument. I’m certain they told me I had “viola hands” not because they were fortune-tellers, but because there was a lack of violists in our district(因为相信任何人,甚至是音乐老师,都能分辨出某人的手是否适合弹奏某种乐器。 故选A项。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第三段“Classical music is truly my best friend.(古典音乐是我最好的朋友)”和文章最后一句“If you get introduced to it in the right way, it will become your friend for life.(如果你以正确的方式了解它,它将成为你终生的朋友)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者一个偶然的机会开始拉中提琴,从此古典音乐成了作者最好的朋友。
根据第一段中的“However, real pink flamingos have been mostly gone from the state since the early 1900s, when hunters nearly wiped them out, seeking their stylish and valuable feathers (羽毛).(然而,自20世纪初以来,真正的粉红色火烈鸟大多已经离开该州,当时猎人为了寻找它们时尚而珍贵的羽毛,几乎将它们灭绝)”可知,20世纪初,火烈鸟几乎从佛罗里达消失是因为猎人为了获取它们的时尚且珍贵的羽毛而过度狩猎。故选D项。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The data showed Conchy moved all over the southern part of the state, teaching scientists more about flamingos in Florida in two years than was known in the previous 100 years, writes Lori Rozsa.(Lori Rozsa写道,数据显示,Conchy在该州南部各地移动,在两年内向科学家传授了更多关于佛罗里达州火烈鸟的知识,这比过去100年所知的还要多)”可知,Conchy的移动数据让科学家们对佛罗里达的火烈鸟行为有了更多的了解。故选C项。
30.词句猜测题。根据最后一段中的“After storms in September 2022, the number of shorebirds found wrapped in dangerous fishing line dropped by 58 percent in southwest Florida, since fishing piers were destroyed in the storm.(2022年9月的风暴过后,被危险的鱼线缠住的滨鸟数量下降了58%,因为钓鱼码头在风暴中被毁)”可知,风暴破坏了钓鱼码头,减少了危险的钓鱼线缠绕滨鸟的情况,这是一个积极的结果,推测silver linings指的是风暴带来的一些好处,即“something good”。故选B项。
31.主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“However, real pink flamingos have been mostly gone from the state since the early 1900s, when hunters nearly wiped them out, seeking their stylish and valuable feathers (羽毛).(然而,自20世纪初以来,真正的粉红色火烈鸟大多已经离开该州,当时猎人为了寻找它们时尚而珍贵的羽毛,几乎将它们灭绝)”、第二段“Now, however, flamingos seem to be returning to Florida.(然而,现在火烈鸟似乎正在返回佛罗里达州)”以及文章内容可知,本文主要介绍了火烈鸟在几十年的缺席后重新返回佛罗里达,以及环保努力对恢复火烈鸟栖息地的作用,所以“火烈鸟重返佛罗里达:阔别数十年后的希望”适合作为文章标题。故选D项。
D
【答案】32.C 33.B 34.A 35.D

32.细节理解题。根据第一段“As this furniture becomes popular, conflicting opinions have arisen on whether they can work as successfully as they are intended.”(随着这种家具越来越受欢迎,关于它们是否能如预期那样成功,出现了相互矛盾的意见。)可知,关于 SSDs的争论主要在于他们的实践结果如何。故选C。
33.推理判断题。根据第一段“Dr. April Chambers from the University of Pittsburgh worked with teammates to gather data from 3 studies and published a review article listing present information on the benefits of SSDs.”(匹兹堡大学的April Chambers博士与队友一起收集了3项研究的数据,并发表了一篇综述文章,列出了目前关于 SSDs的好处的信息。)可知,Chambers 发表这篇文章是为了建议更好地使用 SSDs。故选B。
34.推理判断题。根据第三段“However, many frustrations (沮丧) with SSDs came from the physiological outcomes. According to the review, physiological effects were the most studied, but there were no significant results with regards to fatness.”(然而,许多关于SSDs的挫折来自于生理结果。根据这篇综述,生理影响是研究最多的,但关于肥胖没有显著的结果。)可知,研究人员对SSDs的生理结果持失望的态度。故选A。
35.细节理解题。根据最后一段“Chambers noted that present research is limited because many of the studies were done with young and healthy subjects who were asked to use the desk for a week or a month at most.”(Chambers 指出,目前的研究是有限的,因为许多研究是在年轻和健康的受试者中进行的,这些受试者被要求使用办公桌一周或最多一个月。)可知,Chambers认为进一步研究需要的是需要更广范围的受试者。故选D。

I shared personal stories about honesty, how it had guided me through difficult times and taught me valuable lessons. With each word, I felt more confident, as if a new strength was flowing through me. The silence in the room was replaced by focused attention, and I could see some of my classmates nodding in agreement. I realized that I wasn’t just speaking; I was connecting with them, sharing something meaningful. The fear that had gripped me earlier faded away, replaced by a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
When I finished the speech, all my classmates stood up and cheered. The applause was thunderous, and I was overwhelmed with a mix of relief and joy. My teacher walked up to me with a big smile, patting me on the back and saying, “Well done, Richard! You really nailed it!” My classmates surrounded me, offering congratulations and words of encouragement. I felt a warmth in my heart that I had never experienced before. That day, I not only delivered a speech but also overcame my shyness and gained newfound confidence. I realized that stepping out of my comfort zone could lead to amazing experiences and personal growth. From then on, I became more active in class and participated in various activities, no longer afraid of being in the spotlight.

Text 10:
You might not know about “Buy Nothing Day”, but it has been celebrated on the same day as Black Friday since 1997. The rule is easy:don’t buy anything for 24 hours. Many people are surprised at how hard this can be. The goal is to get people to think more about their spending and make better choices about what they buy and where they buy it from. For example, you could try not to buy clothes that are cheap but only worn a few times. Making these kinds of decisions can help the environment and save you money. So, what else can you do on Buy Nothing Day? Some people protest at malls, while others stay away from stores and go for a walk in nature instead, enjoying the beauty of the outdoors and taking a break from the ongoing shopping culture. Another popular idea is that people give away their winter coats in November, and anyone who needs can take one on Buy Nothing Day. This not only helps those in need but also promotes a culture of sharing. By joining Buying Nothing Day, you can see how important it is to think carefully about what you buy and how it affects your money and the environment.
