A New Way to Learn Languages
Nowadays, the Internet is changing the way people learn languages. There is still no way to avoid the hard work through vocabulary lists and grammar rules, but since the birth of the Internet, books, tapes and even CDs ___1___ (replace) by email, video chat and social networks.
Livemocha, a Seattle-based company, has created a website helping people learn more than 38 languages by exchanging messages over the Internet and then___2___ (correct) each other’s messages. The lessons, ___3___ form they are in, are delivered online.

The casual connections with real people throughout the world are not just fun and surprising but reveal more about ___7___ the language is really used.
Livemocha is now experimenting with many ways that resemble (像) the games ___8___ (find) on other social websites to motivate people. Besides, each person can set up a profile that includes a short self-description and what language he or she would like to learn. Therefore, if you want to learn one language, you will easily find many people fluent in this language. And it becomes___9___(challenging) to find a study partner. An email or two is all it takes.

故填found。
【9题详解】
考查形容词比较级。句意:寻找学习伙伴也变得不那么困难了。根据下文“An email or two is all it takes.”推知,找到学习伙伴变得不那么具有挑战性了,用 less challenging。故填less challenging。

Dear Cutie-Pie,
Recently, your mother and I were searching for an answer on Google. Half way through entering the question, Google returned a list of the most popular searches in the world. At the top of the list was “How to keep him interested.”
It surprised me a lot. I scanned several of the countless articles about how to be attractive, when to bring him a beer versus a sandwich, and the ways to make him feel smart and superior.
And I got angry.
Little One, it is not, has never been, and never will be your job to “keep him interested.”
Little One, your only task is to know deeply in your soul — in that unshakeable place that isn’t upset by rejection and loss — that you are worthy of interest.
If you can trust your worth in this way, you will be attractive in the most important sense of the world: you will attract a boy who is both capable of interest and who wants to spend his one life investing all of his interest in you.
Little One, I want to tell you about the boy who doesn’t need to be kept interested, because he knows you are interesting.
I don’t care if he can’t play a bit of golf with me—as long as he can play with the children you give him and revel in all the glorious and frustrating ways they are just like you I don’t care if he doesn’t follow his wallet — as long as he follows his heart and it always leads him back to you. I don’t care if he is strong — as long as he gives you the space to exercise the strength that is in your heart. I couldn’t care less how he votes — as long as he wakes up every morning and daily elects you to a place of honor in your home and a place of respect in his heart. I don’t care about the color of his skin. I don’t care if he was raised in this religion or that religion or no religion.
Little One, if you come across a man like that and he and I have nothing else in common, we will have the most important thing in common: You.
Because in the end, Little One, the only thing you should have to do to “keep him interested” is to be you.
Your eternally interested guy,
Daddy

Cloud services let you access your files from almost anywhere. No need to worry about a file stored on your computer when you are away from your desk. If you have an Internet connection, you can open your files from any computer, or from a phone, when they are stored using a Cloud service.
Using a Cloud service makes sharing files easier. If you send documents to a group using emails, you may then wonder which version everyone is working with. When sharing files using a Cloud service, everyone will see the same document and the latest version.
The first thing to consider is the amount of storage space you need. Check how much space you are currently using on your computer and mobile devices. If your computer or phone is filled with photos and you have little free space, you may want to move your photos to the Cloud. Some Cloud services are free. But, if you need a lot of space, you will probably need one that costs money.
Even if everyone you have ever met is a Windows user, you still probably want a Cloud service that works with many platforms. You might become friends with an Android user or start a job with a company that computes on Apple!
40. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. Google-Drive users can obtain 100GB for free.
B. Most Cloud services can send files to both the Cloud and the local computer.
C. It’s hard to transfer your file when you turn on the computer if it is stored in the Cloud.
D. Never worry about finding your files in the Clouds if the computer system crashes.
41. What will you have to do if you need more space to store more files in the Cloud?
A. To use your own Cloud services.
B. To share Cloud space with others.
C. To spend money buying space.
D. To buy the latest version of the service.
42. How can consumers find the Cloud service that suits them best?
A. By learning more information about the space occupied by files.
B. By comparing Cloud's function, storage, available space and prices.
C. By sending files to a group of people via e-mail inquiring about the Cloud service.
D. By making friends with Android users who use Apple computers.

Good News for Gamers
Video games can sometimes have a bad reputation because they keep people indoors and looking at a screen instead of talking and playing with others face to face. ___43___
Scientists from the University of Vermont used data from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) scheme, which is a study of brain development and health of children in the US as they move into adulthood. The results were taken from 2,217 children aged nine or 10. They were divided into two groups: young people who never play video games and those who play them for three or more hours a day.
The young people were set two tasks. The first one measured their reaction times by seeing how quickly they could press buttons that matched images on a screen. The second test involved using their memory. ___44___ During the tests, their brains were scanned with fMRI, which uses magnets to measure brain activity.
The people who played video games were consistently better at the two tasks, and the fMRI scans showed that they also had more activity in the parts of their brains that look after memory and attention. ___45___ However, it’s important to note that researchers don’t yet know if gaming improved their memory and reactions, or if they already had good memories and reactions and therefore enjoyed gaming and played a lot.
___46___The team could also perhaps find out in future if particular types of video games affect people’s brain activity differently. The lead scientist on the study, Bader Chaarani says that too much screen time is not good for people’s mental well being or physical health. It is still very important to spend time outdoors in the fresh air, taking exercise and having fun with friends and family.
A. This means that people who play video games show more brain activity.
B. Compared with scrolling through videos on YouTube, playing video games surely makes brain more active.
C. However, a new study has revealed that video games might be good for brain development in young people.
D. Not all of gaming’s effects on the brain are positive despite the activated brain.
E. The scientists are hoping to carry on studying the same young people as they get older to track the effects of gaming.
F. They were shown pictures of people’s faces and then, a bit later, were shown more and had to say if any of the faces were the same.

(A)
Dear Cutie-Pie,
Recently, your mother and I were searching for an answer on Google.
I don’t care if he can’t play a bit of golf with me—as long as he can play with the children you give him and revel in all the glorious and frustrating ways they are just like you. I don’t care if he doesn’t follow his wallet — as long as he follows his heart and it always leads him back to you.
Your eternally interested guy,
Daddy
