Teaching Procedures Step 1: Warming - up (5 minutes) Greet the students and have a free talk. Ask students: “Do you want to be a good learner? What do you think are the important factors to be a good learner?” Let students share their ideas briefly. This can arouse students' interest and lead to the topic of the lesson smoothly. Step 2: Presentation (10 minutes) New Words and Phrases Teaching: Present the new words and phrases one by one on the PPT. For example, when teaching “aloud”, show a picture of a student reading a book aloud and read the word several times, then let students imitate the pronunciation. For “by working with friends”, use a picture of students working in a group to explain the meaning. After presenting all the words and phrases, let students read them aloud together for several times to practice the pronunciation. Do a word - matching activity. Write the new words and phrases on the left side of the blackboard and their Chinese meanings on the right side in a disordered way. Ask students to come to the blackboard and connect them correctly. Sentence Patterns Teaching: Show the key sentence patterns on the PPT: “How do you study English? I learn by working with a group.” Explain the structure and usage of “by + doing” to express the way of doing things. Give some examples: “I improve my math by doing more exercises.” “She remembers new words by making flashcards.” Let students make their own sentences using the “by + doing” structure and share them with the class. Step 3: Listening (10 minutes) 1b Listening: Let students look at the pictures and phrases in 1a. Tell them that they will listen to a conversation among three students about how they study for a test. Play the recording of 1b. Play the recording again if necessary for students to clarify any misunderstandings. 2a and 2b Listening: Show the questions in 2a on the PPT. Let students read them quickly. Play the recording of 2a. Students listen and check the questions they hear. Then play the recording of 2b. Students listen again and match each question with an answer. Check the answers in class. Ask students to read the questions and answers aloud to practice their pronunciation and intonation. Step 4: Pair - work and Group - work (10 minutes) 1c Pair - work: Let students practice the conversation in 1c in pairs. One student asks “How do you study for a test?” and the other answers “I study by . . .” using different methods. Walk around the classroom, listen to their conversations and offer help if necessary. After a few minutes, invite some pairs to act out their conversations in front of the class. 2c Group - work: Divide students into groups of four. Each group member shares their own ways of learning English using the “by + doing” structure. For example, “I learn English grammar by doing grammar exercises.” “I practice speaking English by joining an English club.” Then each group selects a representative to report the group's discussion results to the whole class. Encourage other students to ask questions or make comments. Step 5: Role - play (5 minutes) 2d Role - play: Let students read the conversation between Jack and Annie in 2d silently first. Then explain some difficult points, such as “read word groups” and “guess a word's meaning by reading the sentences before and after it”. Ask students to practice reading the conversation in pairs, paying attention to the intonation and emotion. Invite several pairs to role - play the conversation in front of the class. After the role - play, give some comments and praise to encourage students. Step 6: Summary (3 minutes) Summarize the main content of this class with students, including the new words, phrases, sentence patterns and the key points of talking about learning methods. Emphasize the usage of the “by + doing” structure again. Encourage students to try different learning methods in their daily study to improve their learning efficiency. Step 7: Homework (2 minutes) Ask students to write a short passage about “My Ways of Learning English” using at least five “by + doing” sentences. The passage should be about 80 - 100 words. Let students find more effective learning methods from their classmates or on the Internet and be ready to share them in the next class. 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
