Despite living in a silent world for more than two decades, Zhan Junyi who has been deaf from birth has become a professional dancer on stage, with music now audible through an artificial cochlea (人工耳蜗).
On occasion, he watched the beautiful dance presentation Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, or Thousand-Hand Bodhisattva (千手观音), performed by the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe on TV. “The dance was well performed by the dancers with hearing loss, and I was moved by their excellent skills and strength,” he said. “At that time, I dreamed of being a dancer like them.”
He began to watch videos of dance performances and competitions to do the dance movements. To keep up with the rhythm, he needed an artificial cochlea — a device that sends vibrations (震动) to the hearing nerve — in his ears.
“With the help of the device, I can feel the vibrations of music,” he said, “but it will easily fall out when I have big movements, so I have to wear a hair band to help keep it on.”
Yet through perseverance (毅力), he excelled at dancing and was admitted to the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe in 2015. In 2021, he was admitted to Changchun University to study dance. He has gained rich experience, including performing at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games and 2023 Spring Festival Gala.

A new program in London will soon start giving away unsold theater tickets to those who couldn’t afford them. Called the Ticket Bank, it will aim to give out 1, 000 tickets per week to theater, dance, music and comedy shows. The tickets will be free.
The Ticket Bank is an arts-oriented variation on the food bank: giving donations to those in need. The program will launch on January 9th.
“There are brilliant people putting together food banks, but that doesn’t give people their basic needs from a soul point of view,” said Chris Sonnex who put forward the idea. “People who are suffering as a result of the cost of living also need access to entertainment and things that warm the soul. Art is a human right.”
The program is focused on the increasing cost of living which puts cultural experiences out of reach for more and more people. It also aims to help cultural institutions like theaters, which have seen reducing audiences due to economic crises.
The Cultural Philanthropy Foundation, an organization aiming to “democratize (使民主化) access to culture”, wanted to help make the project happen. “Rarely do you come across an idea that is so simple and brilliant that you can’t believe it doesn’t already exist,” Caroline McCormick, the foundation’s chair, said. “When Chris Sonnex told me his idea for the Ticket Bank, my response was as simple as his idea: We have to make this happen.”
Seven theaters have agreed to participate in it. Another seven will be announced in January. “Everybody’s seen the value, and everyone wants to make it work,” McCormick said. A group of London and United Kingdom-based partners will ensure the tickets reach people and communities in need.
“While a million different barriers make accessing the arts difficult, one of the biggest is ticket prices,” Sonnex said. “It’s important to reach as many people as possible to say: This is for you.”
8. What is the purpose of the Ticket Bank?
A. To give donations and money to those in need.
B. To offer theater, music and comedy shows to the poor.
C. To sell daily goods to those who love to go to theaters.
D. To provide free theater tickets for those that can’t afford them.
9. Why did Chris Sonnex come up with the program?
A. He wanted to meet people’s basic needs.
B. The poor needed more food and care.
C. He thought people needed encouragement.
D The poor needed spiritual things that warm the soul.
10. What is Caroline McCormick’s attitude towards the idea?
A Favorable. B. Neutral. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.
11. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. Food bank— giving basic need of soul.
B. The theater — satisfying people’s spirit.
C. Ticket Bank — making art appreciation easier.
D. London foundation — bringing culture to life.

第二节(满分25分)
53. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
A lady teacher was teaching mathematics in the 5th Grade class. She wrote down the Table of 9 on the black board as below:
9×1=9
9×2=18
9×3=27
9×4=36
9×5=45
9×6=54
9×7=63
9×8=72
9×9=81
9×10=80
…
As soon as she finished writing the table, she heard sounds of laughing, murmuring, low voices whispering among the students. “The teacher is stupid. She just doesn’t know the simple Table of 9. How can she teach us mathematics?” She heard such sarcastic (讽刺的) words. But she was unmoved, calm and quite. She turned her face towards the students and asked, “What is the matter? Why are you laughing?”
“Teacher, you are wrong,” one smart girl replied.
“9×10 happens to be 90. You have written 80,” another smart boy replied. His body language was suggesting that the teacher knew nothing about mathematics.
“Do you agree with him?” the teacher asked.
“Yes!” all the students replied in one voice.
“So I have made a mistake in the last line of the table, right?” she asked.
“Yes! You are right, teacher!” all the students replied.
“There are ten lines in the table. One line is wrong, but the remaining lines are correct. Am I right?” the teacher asked.
All the students nodded, “Yes.”
“So let us put it in the mathematical language. Out of ten lines, nine lines are correct, so I am 90%correct. That only one line is wrong means I am 10% wrong. Do you agree with me?” the teacher asked.
“Yes, madam!” all the students replied.
“You pointed out rather happily, my 10% mistake. Some of you said that I am stupid, I don’t know the Table of 9 and I am incapable of teaching you mathematics. But nobody said anything about 90% of my correct work. Why is it so?” the teacher asked.
“You are supposed to be perfect and 100% right. That’s why you are our teacher,” the same smart boy replied.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Paragraph 1:

Paragraph 2:
“But also remember that nobody is 100% correct. Many humans are 90% correct,” she added.

D. The poor needed spiritual things that warm the soul.
10. What is Caroline McCormick’s attitude towards the idea?
A. Favorable. B. Neutral. C. Doubtful. D. Negative.

【答案】
Top Meal of the Day
A recent survey at our school revealed a surprising fact: about 45% of teenagers skip breakfast. Why? Many lack time in the morning rush, while others simply don’t feel hungry.
Skipping breakfast has harmful effects. Without the essential energy it provides, students often struggle to concentrate in morning classes and feel tired easily. This naturally affects their learning efficiency.
To build a healthy habit, let’s prepare simple foods like milk and bread the night before. Remember, breakfast truly is “the top meal of the day.” Eating well fuels both body and mind for success!

第二节(满分25分)
“You pointed out, rather happily, my 10% mistake.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;

【答案】范文
“Now I am going to teach you an important lesson in life!” the teacher said. She paused, looking at each student with a gentle smile. “In life, people often focus on the small mistakes others make, ignoring all the good things they do. Just like today, you noticed only my one wrong answer, not the nine correct ones. This happens everywhere — parents, friends, even leaders are judged more for their few errors than their many successes. But is that fair? Shouldn’t we appreciate effort and progress too?” The classroom fell silent as the students reflected on her words.
“But also remember that nobody is 100% correct. Many humans are 90% correct,” she added. “Perfection is impossible, and expecting it only leads to disappointment. Instead of laughing at mistakes, let’s help each other improve. If you focus only on flaws, you’ll miss the wisdom in imperfect people — like teachers, or even yourselves.” The students exchanged thoughtful glances. The boy who had mocked her earlier lowered his head. “So next time,” the teacher concluded, “before criticizing, count the right things first. That’s how we grow kinder — and wiser.”
