For most people, doing the laundry is a basic part of life. As long as clean clothes are in demand, a laundry business will be too. Though people always need clean clothes, many don't have time to handle this elementary task. In fact, (18)laundry is often thought to be the least favorable household chore, followed by cooking and sweeping. (17)Considering the constant need for clean clothes, starting a business in the laundry industry can be a great option for a beginner.
Running your own laundry business does not require any specific qualification or experience. (19)The most important thing is:It's necessary to carry out local market research before you make a business plan or buy equipment. Such businesses are most popular in areas with lots of people or where people might not have their own washing machines, for example, the university campus and popular tourist spots.
You may want to run a laundry where customers wash their clothes by using your machines. You can also offer services. For example, customers can drop off their laundry, and then pick it up when it's done. You can also offer pickup and delivery services. Whichever you choose, (20)you'll need washing and drying machines and many other essential things for the business. Keep all of these in mind when you set about calculating the initial costs.

根据题干中的“to achieve the best persuasion”定位到第一段中的“the best persuasion is achieved through good presuasion”,然后再根据第二段首句中presuasion的作用原理“Presuasion works by focusing people's attention on a selected concept...”
根据第四段中的“... in 1588, thousands of British troops... were deeply concerned that their leader Queen Elizabeth I, as a woman, would not be up to the toughness of battle”可知,当时的英国士兵担心他们的女王伊丽莎白一世承受不住战争的艰苦。因此他们一开始对其持怀疑态度。respective尊敬的;appreciative欣赏的;faithful 忠实的。

【语篇解读】 本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了如何从自身的因素出发,去有效提升倾听技巧。
36.C 前文“A workable and pretty easy solution to improving your listening skills is that you begin to realize how much of your ability to be an effective listener is really about you, not the other person and how fascinating or boring they are.”指出提高倾听技巧在于意识到自己的能力和他人的状态,因此C项“In fact, if they're boring, in some ways that is on you.”符合语境,承接前文,强调重点在于自己,其中的boring和前文的boring是同词复现。故选C。

39.A 空处位于段首,需引出段落内容。后文“For example, your surrounding environment, the topic at hand, or even particular company may affect your ability to listen.”具体列举影响倾听能力的外部因素,因此A项“Considering external factors is also important.”符合语境,契合后文内容。故选A。

【参考范文】
Dear_Peter,
I'm Li Hua, one of your students. I'm writing to render what I've found about students' interest in our English Corner.
Aimed at cultivating students' interest in English learning, your English Corner undoubtedly offers us students a great platform to enhance our English proficiency. However, I've found students lacking enthusiasm to get involved lately. I think it would be a good idea to showcase the unique charm of English Corner by adding more interactive activities like English Drama Performance. Additionally, why not undertake a survey to know about what really interests students?
I would appreciate it if you could make a bit change, in which case, the English Corner will surely become one of the fondest memories rooted in our hearts.
Yours_sincerely,
Li_Hua

【参考范文】
In the car, I told her I lost again and I was hesitating about quitting the team. Mom remained silent for a full minute, tightening her grip on the steering wheel. Finally, she spoke in a measured tone, “Billy, quitting is not a sign of weakness. Winning or losing doesn't define you. What matters is whether you're pursuing something that brings you joy.” Her words cleared up the selfdoubt that had clouded my judgement and reignited a spark of courage within me. I recalled why I had learned to wrestle in the first place. “Thanks, Mom. I know what I should do.”
The next day, I walked into the training field again. Coach McDonald was already there. He smiled when he saw me with a knowing look. “Back for more, Billy?” he said, clapping me on the back. I nodded, making up my mind to give it another shot. As I tied my shoes and prepared for the practice, I felt a surge of determination washing over me. Maybe Coach was right. Maybe I do have what it takes to be a champion. And if not, at least I am pursuing something that brings me joy and a sense of purpose.

Camping tips: Which overnight wilderness experience is right for you?
If you're an experienced backpacker, read no further. This article is for camping rookies, those who have never slept beneath the stars or haven't pitched a tent since their youth but are seriously thinking about overnighting in the wilderness.
Car camping
At its most basic, car camping involves packing a tent, sleeping bag, foldup chair, cooler and camp stove into your vehicle and staying at a driveup campground. Nearly every national park, and many state and county parks and private facilities, offer driveup campgrounds with restrooms, potable water, fire rings or pits, and maybe even hot showers. So there are lots of choices.
The downside of car camping is the fact that these campgrounds are often packed with other campers. Not a lot of privacy, they can be noisy, and possibly hinder your quest of communing with nature.
Backpacking
No vehicle required; just your feet and a good pair of hiking boots or shoes to get you to the next overnight spot. A multiday hiking trip is without doubt the most immersive way to experience the great outdoors.
Different from maybe car camping, it requires the least expense and equipment. All you really need are a backpack, sleeping bag, water bottle, small firstaid kit, enough food to last the entire travel. It can be done just about anywhere on the planet.
Boat Camping
While this does involve owning or renting a watercraft or using a ferry or water taxi service to reach the overnight site, camping via canoe, kayak, raft or boat offers a similar getawayfromitall adventure as backpacking.
Experienced paddlers and boaters usually prefer to camp on their own along a secluded shoreline. But many adventure or wilderness outfitters offer guided trips that can last anywhere from a couple of days to two or three weeks. With a boat, you can sometimes camp places that not even backpackers can reach.
21.Who are the intended readers?
A.Redblooded males. B.Whitecollar staff.
C.Blueblooded tourists. D.Greenhand campers.
22.What can you learn from the passage?
A.Backpacking allows you to communicate with nature deeply.
B.Car camping is the most economic way to experience nature.
C.The driveup campgrounds provide people with private environment.
D.Boat camping offers the same adventures as backpacking.
23.In which column will you find this passage?
A.Feature. B.Style. C.Travel. D.Entertainment.
B
I live in Xizhou in Yunnan Province, on the historic Tea Horse Road. I have to admit that when I first heard that Paul Salopek was going to walk the entire globe on his own two feet, I was blown away. I couldn't imagine that there could be such an unusual person in the world.
Last May, I met Paul. He told me that it was his first time in China. He talked to me with great excitement about the history, migrations, and discoveries in my region of China. He spoke of the ShuYandu Dao (the Southern Silk Road), the travels of the 17thcentury Chinese explorer Xu Xiake, the Tea Horse Road and the early 20thcentury American botanist Joseph Rock. He also talked of Xuanzang. Paul considered many of them heroes and in a sense Chinese pioneers of slow journalism.
I decided to accompany Paul on his walk toward Yunnan. On September 28, 2021, we set out. Our days were simple: walk, eat, sleep, and repeat. We woke up at sunrise, set off in high spirits, and rested at sunset, dragging ourselves into exhausted sleep.
We met many people on the road. Some were curious, surrounding us and watching us: some gave us directions; some invited us into their home to take a rest; some spoke of the charm of their hometown. We met many beautiful souls, simple souls and warm souls. We were walking with our minds.
Together, we were impressed by the biodiversity of the Gaoligong Mountains. As I walked on ancient paths through mountains, I seemed to hear the antique voices of past travelers urging me to be careful on the road.
Looking back on the more than 200 miles I walked with Paul, I came to a realization. Walking for its own sake, while healthy and admirable, is only a small part of the benefit of moving with our feet. A deeper reward is rediscovering the world around us, shortening the distance between each other, and sharing each other's cultures.
24.How did the writer first respond to Paul's travel plan?
A.Amused. B.Surprised. C.Confused. D.Puzzled.
25.What can we learn about Paul Salopek from paragraph 2?
A.He was a western journalist. B.He had a knowledge of China.
C.He came to China several times. D.He was Joseph Rock's acquaintance.
26.What does paragraph 4 tell us about the writer and Paul?
A.They honored the ancestors. B.They set off in high spirits.
C.They satisfied the locals' curiosity. D.They built bonds with people.
27.What is the main purpose of the writer's writing the text?

Researchers at North Carolina State University are proposing an additional white traffic light that will act as a sign to human drivers and passengers that they should follow the lead of selfdriving vehicles moving through intersections (十字路口).
Driving is fundamentally changing. In the future, human drivers will be sharing the road with autonomous vehicles. The transition to autonomous vehicles is progressing with each passing year and humans are no longer the only ones sitting behind an automobile's steering wheel. This makes it urgent for traffic lights with a fourth color to become a reality.
The white traffic light would be equipped with wireless Bluetooth technology and would engage when the number of autonomous vehicles driving on the road at any given time exceeds a certain threshold (阈值).Autonomous vehicles would be in communication with each other and with the traffic lights at intersections, within a certain range.Any human drivers in the mix would be informed to follow the lead of the vehicle in front of them via the white light: stop if it stops, continue if it continues.
In simulation models, autonomous vehicles were shown to improve traffic flow on their own.The higher the percentage of autonomous vehicles at an intersection, the faster the traffic moved, with improvements of about 40 to 99 percent in terms of total delay reductions possible.“The white light can be used to coordinate (协调) traffic in any situation involving autonomous vehicles and tell human drivers what's going on,so that they know what they are supposed to do as they approach the intersection,” says civil engineer Ali Hajbabaie.
As an example, most recently,Tesla's problematic fullselfdriving vehicles have been at the forefront of public criticism after a car crashed into a fire truck.Consequently, the potential risks linked to autonomous driving are what made North Carolina State University researchers suggest adding a fourth color to traffic lights in the coming years.

Today and every day we are the targets of advertisers, fundraisers and politicians trying to persuade us to buy something, do something or think in a certain way. And they're good at it, but by concentrating so intently on the message itself, they've missed a crucial component of the process. Research done in the last 15 years shows that the best persuasion is achieved through good presuasion—the practice of arranging for people to agree with a message before they even know what's in it.
Presuasion works by focusing people's attention on a selected concept, which in turn inspires them to overvalue it over related ones. In one study, visitors to an online sofa store were greeted with images of either soft clouds or small coins in the background of its landing page. Those who saw the clouds were more likely to prefer soft, comfortable sofas for purchase whereas those who saw the money preferred cheaper models.
Long before scientists started studying the process of presuasion, a few notable communicators already had an intuitive understanding of it.
For example, in 1588,thousands of British troops, who were gathered against a sea invasion by Spain at Tilbury in the UK, were deeply concerned that their leader Queen Elizabeth I, as a woman, would not be up to the toughness of battle. In addressing the men, she dispelled their fears presuasivelyfirst acknowledging their concern by admitting a weakness, which established her honesty for whatever she said next, and then following it with a strength that demolished (推翻) this perceived weakness. “I know,” she asserted, “I have the body of a weak woman. But I have the heart of a king, and a king of England, too.”
It's reported that so long and loud were the cheers after this pronouncement that officers had to ride among the soldiers ordering them to restrain themselves so the queen could continue.
With considerable success, practitioners of social influence have always featured persuasive prods—glowing testimonials, emotional tugs, lastchance opportunities—in their appeals. Perhaps because of that success, they've mostly missed an accompanying truth. For maximum impact, it's not only what you do; it's also what you do just before you do what you do.
32.What does the author recommend us to do to achieve the best persuasion?
A.Presenting people with glowing certificates.
B.Drawing people's attention to intended aspects.
C.Concentrating on people's facial and body reactions.
D.Touching people's heart strings by moving speeches.
33.Why does the author mention an online sofa store?
A.To promote products. B.To clarify a concept.
C.To explain a mystery. D.To draw a conclusion.
34.What was the British soldiers' attitude towards Queen Elizabeth I at first?
A.Respective. B.Appreciative. C.Faithful. D.Doubtful.
35.What can be the best title of the text?
A.The Power of Presuasion B.The Methods of Persuasion
C.The Origin of Presuasion D.The Impact of Persuasion

A workable and pretty easy solution to improving your listening skills is that you begin to realize how much of your ability to be an effective listener is really about you, not the other person and how fascinating or boring they are.__36__
We tend to assume that listening is little more than showing up and paying attention to the other person.__37__ It's worth noticing how we instinctively (本能地) listen in conversation and whether or not that given listening mode is really what's called for.
You need to identify your personal “hot spots”.__38__ Whether it's talking about climate change or Father's Day, when you are not interested at all, you realize it is hard to concentrate. That kind of selfknowledge comes by having a scientific approach and observing yourself in action.
__39__ For example, your surrounding environment, the topic at hand, or even particular company may affect your ability to listen. When you do this, you can more easily see what gets in the way of your ability to listen and understand. Thus that makes many of our workrelated conversations much easier.
In a performance review or heated debate, you can remind yourself if you're having an emotional response to feedback and are having trouble hearing the other person out. Observing and learning from your behavior, and noticing how you are affected by your surroundings help you uncover your unique needs for doing your best listening. __40__
A.Considering external factors is also important.
B.Besides, get curious about your conversation style.
C.In fact, if they're boring, in some ways that is on you.
D.But it's also deeply tied to paying attention to ourselves.
E.Effective listening is about creating the space for others to express themselves.
F.The topics are what uniquely set you off and emotionally inspire you in some ways.
G.Those are going to help everything from meetings to client presentations run smoothly.

The smell of defeat filled the air on a warm October evening. In the school parking lot stood Coach McDonald and me, a loser in the 160pound weight class.
Coach McDonald's hands firmly grasped my shoulders, his eyes looking through my uncertainty. “Billy,” his voice cut through the uneasy quiet. “The potential for you to become an excellent wrestler exists. It takes time,” he argued.
“Don't you see? I lost... again. Ten matches. Never won.” Frustration struck me as I stepped away from Coach McDonald. Pulling my cell phone from my equipment bag, I said definitively, “I need to call my mom. She'll pick me up.” I just wanted to get away as soon as possible and flung myself into Mom's arms. She had always been my best friend and supporter.
While waiting for her to answer my call, the thought of quitting the sport rumbled in my mind. I was so frustrated at that time that I ignored the joy and satisfaction wrestling had brought to me.
Coach McDonald closed in. “Billy, look at me,” he said. “Pound for pound, you're the strongest and most flexible (灵活的) kid on the team. That's a winning combination. Master the techniques in practice, and victory will be yours, I promise.”
I coughed and pulled my sweaty shirt off my chest. “When, Coach?”
With a knowing look, Coach said, “Do you know how long it took me to win my first match?” He stood up straight, squinting (斜视) like he was recalling a tough time. “During my first year, I lost every match. I ended the season 011.I didn't lose at all in the following two years, including two state championships. Billy, that can be you someday. But it'll never happen if you quit.”
In that silent moment, I felt a slight pain within me, but it was weak, not strong enough to change my mind. Coach cleared his throat, glancing at his watch. “Well, I'm hungry.”
“And my mom's here,” I said. Then I jumped into her car.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
In the car, I told her I lost again and I was hesitating about quitting the team.________________________________________________________________________
