China is making efforts to help people manage their weight and lead healthier lives. The government has started a three-year “Weight Management Year” program from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity, which can lead to serious health illnesses. Here’s what you should know about the latest instructions.
Firstly, it is necessary to check your BMI (Body Mass Index). For adults, a healthy BMI is from 18.5 to 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are overweight; a BMI of 28 or higher is considered as obesity. Moreover, you need to know the size of your waist: men should keep it under 90 cm, and women under 85 cm.
Eating right is important, and exercise matters just as much! When it comes to diet, choose whole grains like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and high-protein foods such as fish, chicken, or beans. Keep away from fried foods and high-sugar snacks, and also reduce your salt and oil intake. To our surprise, the instructions even include some local dishes—like the “strewed fish” from Northeast China or the “noodles with pepper oil” from the Northwest.
When it comes to exercise, you are advised to do sports like walking, cycling or dancing for 150-300 minutes each week, plus strength exercises twice a week. If you find yourself sitting for a few hours while studying, make sure to stand up and stretch for 3-5 minutes every hour.
In addition to diet and exercise, small daily habits can also help. Teens should get 7 hours of sleep nightly, as poor sleep can increase weight, too. Try eating vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or bread during meals to control the amount of food.
Schools and hospitals are also giving a helping hand. For example, schools across the country are encouraged to provide at least a P. E. class a day. Hospitals have set up special “weight management clinics”, where doctors provide personalized diet and exercise plans. By 2030, China hopes to slow down the growth of obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about going for perfection—only start with small changes, like drinking water instead of other drinks or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. With these small steps, everyone can build a healthier future!
* The word “obesity” means a condition of being too fat.
** The word “waist” means the middle part of the human body.
24. What can we infer from the text about the relationship between sleep and weight?
A. Longer sleep always leads to weight loss.
B. Sleep has nothing to do with weight.
C. Adults need less sleep than teens to control their weight.
D. Enough sleep helps teens keep a healthy weight.
25. Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? (①= Paragraph 1 ②=Paragraph 2, …)
A. B. C. D.
26. What is the best title for this passage?
A. The Importance of Eating Right B. Disadvantages of Obesity
C. Chinese Healthy Lifestyle D. China’s Weight Management Instructions

Keoni’s class was discussing a story about a fox who was punished (惩罚) for stealing nuts from an old man’s house. Keoni was daydreaming, though, about swimming in the ocean. After school, he rushed home and jumped into the water. Keoni lived in a house on the beach with his grandfather. Of all the things he loved about the ocean, he loved its coral reefs (珊瑚礁) the most. He was amazed by the shapes and colors of the coral, as well as the fish and other strange sea creatures (生物) that swam around it.
Keoni discovered a small piece of coral. “That looks like a wave,” he thought. He broke it off and brought it home. He collected more coral the next day, and every day after that, until his grandfather realized what he was doing.
“Keoni, you mustn’t take coral from the ocean!” his grandfather said. “Coral is a living thing, and it’s also home to thousands of other sea creatures. How would you feel if someone came here and stole your home?”
“Why not? I only took some small pieces, Grandfather.”
“What if everyone took just some small pieces?” his grandfather asked. “Soon there would be no coral left. Don’t steal any more! You know, the ocean always takes back what belongs to it.”
That night, Keoni worried about his grandfather’s warning.
The next day, an alarm scared him. His grandfather said, “It’s a tsunami (海啸). We must go up the hill.” He and his grandfather raced to the higher grounds with their neighbors.
An hour later, from his uncle’s safe house, Keoni watched in horror as the huge wave hit the beach. “The ocean punished me and took back what I stole.” he said.
After that, Keoni made a promise and always remembered it. He understood that even small actions can harm nature. Keoni knew he had to protect the ocean. Now, when he swims in the sea, he just looks at the coral. He knows it should stay in the ocean so that fish and other sea creatures can have a home.
27. What was Keoni daydreaming about during the class discussion?
A. The story about a fox. B. Swimming in the ocean.
C. His grandfather’s alarm. D. Stealing the coral reefs.
28. What happened to Keoni’s coral collection during the tsunami?
A. It was washed away by the wave. B. It was still in his house safely.
C. It was stolen by his neighbour. D. It was broken into small pieces.
29. What does the underlined word “promise” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. To focus on learning in class. B. To let coral stay in the ocean.
C. To be careful when swimming. D. To collect rubbish with his neighbors.
30. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The beauty of the coral reefs. B. The influence (影响) of small actions.

Besides, animals like pigs often stay on the ground floor while people live above.
People like to live in such houses for many reasons. First of all, the houses could and can protect people from dangerous animals, snakes and insects. Besides, in the mountainous areas of southern China, no one can stand the humidity (湿度) on the ground during summer. They can help save money and land as well.

After that, Keoni made a promise and always remembered it. He understood that even small actions can harm nature. Keoni knew he had to protect the ocean. A Wonderful Day in Nature
Outdoor activities are the best ways to enjoy the natural beauty. Last spring, my classmates and I visited a lovely forest park near our town. We were greeted by tall trees standing like giant umbrellas and a small lake sparkling like diamonds under the gentle sun.
We spent the morning hiking up a zigzag path, chatting and laughing all the way. Though we felt tired, reaching the top offered a breathtaking view that instantly refreshed us.
