In April, 2025, U. S. President Donald Trump decided to add new tariffs (关税) on some Chinese products (产品). This news has caused heated discussions around the world. Today, let’s understand what this means and how it changes people’s life.
You may want to know what the meaning of tariffs is. Tariffs are extra (额外的) money paid when one country buys things from another. At the very beginning, Trump thinks Chinese products like toys, phones and steel (钢) are too cheap. So, he makes Chinese products more expensive in America by adding higher tariffs. In this way, companies (公司) in America can sell more American products because theirs will be cheaper. For example, the cost (成本) of a Chinese mobile phone is 100 dollars. After adding a tariff of 60%, its price becomes 160 dollars.
However, not everyone agrees with Trump. Chinese government (政府) sees this as an unfair treatment (待遇). It is known to all that low-cost Chinese products help American families save money. If America increases the tariffs, China might do the same to U. S. farm products such as eggs, beef and soybeans (大豆). This could hurt American farmers who need to sell their farm products to China.
In America, some factory workers support (支持) Trump’s idea. They hope more factories will open and create jobs. But shop owners get worried. Maria, who runs a clothing store in Texas, says, “If clothes get more expensive, my customers will buy less in the future.”
In the past (2018-2020) similar tariffs caused higher prices for daily products like clothes and food. Experts say trade wars help no one. Now China wants to solve problems through talks instead of fighting. The world is watching to see if both countries can find a better way.
33. America may add new tariffs on Chinese ________.
A. potatoes B. eggs C. steel D. soybeans
34. Why dose Trump add higher tariffs on some Chinese products?
A. To buy things from another country. B. To sell more American products in America.
C. To pay extra money for China. D. To make Chinese mobile phones cheaper.
35. Which of the following is true according to the third paragraph?
A. Everyone agrees with Trump.
B. Chinese products are much cheaper in America after adding tariffs.
C. The unfair treatment help American families save money.
D. Chinese government disagrees with the American tariffs.
36. We can infer (推断) from the passage that ________.
A. Tariffs save money for us when buying things from another country
B. Some shop owners in America support higher tariffs on Chinese products
C. Neither China nor America will get any benefit (益处) from trade wars
D. President Donald Trump hopes to solve problems through talks

From food lovers to learning or travel partners, young people have been looking for new ways to communicate with others and have fun together. A popular way to do so is through dazi socializing (社交).
The word “dazi” comes from the Shanghai dialect (方言). People first used it to talk about card-playing friends. Now, it means the partners who join in some activities together. And a dazi is not like a close friend or a family member. People usually don’t have a long and strong relationship with their dazi.
These years, more people are trying to look for a dazi to enjoy food, travel, or study. A study of 1,335 young people shows that 72.6 percent have one or more dazi. Nearly 69 percent believe that finding a dazi is a brave step in moving out of their comfort zone (舒适圈) to find a new lifestyle.
Xiaomi is one of such people. Xiaomi, born in 1981, is an office worker in Shenzhen. She has looked for travel partners more than once. This March, Xiaomi went to Gansu Province and found a travel partner there. She also found another dazi during the trip. They all had great fun during the journey.
“We later started a chat (聊天) group on WeChat (微信), and we shared good books and life experiences in it. At the same time, we shared our daily habits, too. Starting as travel partners, we have become friends. I think I’m lucky.” Xiaomi said.
Finding a dazi is not always good, and it can be dangerous sometimes. Remember to be careful and pay attention to your personal safety when you look for a dazi.

In the past (2018-2020), similar tariffs caused higher prices for daily products like clothes and food. Experts say trade wars help no one. Now China wants to solve problems through talks instead of fighting. The world is watching to see if both countries can find a better way.
33. America may add new tariffs on Chinese ________.

34. Why dose Trump add higher tariffs on some Chinese products?

D. Chinese government disagrees with the American tariffs.
36. We can infer (推断) from the passage that ________.
