Lots of people are working hard to protect forests, and you can, too. Follow these tips to help keep the planet’s forests standing tall. Light Touch Don’t take rocks, earth, flowers and leaves from the forest floor — they are an important part of the forest and provide homes for small animals like ants and snakes. Gum Shoe Clean the bottom of your shoes before walking in a new place — the seeds (种子) from other places might be under your shoes, which can harm the living areas of some animals and plants. Trash Trooper Bring an extra bag along on your walk: you can pick up litter as you go and help keep the forest clean. Fire Safety During dry seasons wildfires can quickly burn down woods and forests. If you go camping, build campfires only in areas allowed, and make sure they’re fully put out before moving on. Animal Help Forest animals should live in the wild, not in people’s home or market. Never buy or pay to touch an animal that should be living in the wild, and ask your parents not to support those actions. 1. What may harm living areas of some animals and plants? A. Rain. B. Earth. C. Leaves. D. Seeds. 2. What should you do if you want to move on when camping? A. Clean shoes. B. Put out the fire. C. Bring a bag. D. Touch an animal. 3. What is the passage mainly about? A. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire. Since the Warring States Period (战国时代), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. In the Tang Dynasty, there was huge progress in the technology of sugar making. And sugar, the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared. Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. To make syrup, they have to make sugar hot before painting. Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done. However, it’s a pity that this folk art is dying recently. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass on the art except those aging sugar painters. For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. Therefore, the art should be remembered, missed and passed on. 4. What does the underlined word “precious” in Paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Valuable and expensive. B. Useful and cheap. C. Special but worthless. D. Simple but priceless. 5. When did sugar painting appear? A. In the Warring States Period. B. In the Tang Dynasty. C. In the Yuan Dynasty. D. In the Ming Dynasty. 6. What’s the writer’s attitude(态度) towards today’s sugar painting according to Paragraph 4? A. Uncaring. B. Doubtful. C. Worried. D. Unclear. 7. Which can be a suitable title for the passage? A. Exploring the Art of Sugar Painting. B Improving the Taste of Sugar Painting. C. Effects of the Sugar Producing Technology. D. Ways to Change the Future of Sugar Painting. C Most people have an inner (内心的) voice. What you say to yourself, and how you say it, makes a difference to how you think, feel and behave, so it’s worth paying attention to it. Your inner voice is always with you. You might notice it when you make a mistake, when you try something new, or when you solve a problem. Sometimes it sounds kind but at other times it can sound mean or scared. Young people’s coach Maria Evans says it should be treated with kindness. “It gets scared when you think about doing something that feels hard. Often all it needs is to be listened to and spoken to with love and reassurance.” Your inner voice has an influence on you because you already pay attention to it. So what you say to yourself, and what you hear, sinks in. If you keep telling yourself you can’t do math or you’re not good at making friends or you’re not creative, over time you’ll believe what your inner voice is saying. When you talk to yourself like “I’ve got to tidy my room,” it makes the task feel harder. If instead you say, “I choose to tidy my room, and then I’ll be able to find the books I want easily,” it’s more positive (积极的). You’re telling yourself how you’ll get an advantage. Noticing what your inner voice says and choosing to talk encouragingly to yourself can help you feel more confident. For example, when you get things wrong, tell yourself it’s okay and you’ll learn for next time. Or when you do something challenging, congratulate yourself for being brave and having a try. If you’re not sure what to say, imagine you’re talking to your best friends and trying to support and help them inside your head. 8. Why should you notice your inner voice? A It is always inside your head. B. It is different from your action. C. It influences your thoughts and behavior. D. It helps you try something new and hard. 9. What will happen if you keep saying no to yourself? A. You’ll not be creative. B. You’ll meet math problems. C. You’ll make no friends. D. You’ll believe what you say. 10. What is an example of positive inner voice? A. “I’ve got to tidy my room.” B. “It’s hard to have a try.” C “It’s okay to make mistakes.” D. “I have to find the books.” 11. What’s the best title for this passage? A. Talk Kindly to Yourself B. Make Friends for Yourself C. Look Deep inside Yourself D. Build Confidence by Yourself D New research has found that wells dug by wild horses in deserts provide valuable drinking water. This helps other animals too, as black bears and American badgers have been found drinking at the wells. A team of researchers from Australia, Denmark and the US set up remote cameras at four desert locations in the US. Wild horses had used their feet to dig wells as much as two meters deep at these sites, so they could reach water under dry river beds and streams. The cameras were used to watch over the sites and were set to record whenever an animal moved in front of them. The scientists saw plenty of comings and goings by horses but they were most interested in which other animals came to drink at the wells. Over the course of three summers, beginning in 2015, the team recorded 57 kinds of other large animals visiting the wells, including wild cats and deer. The team also found that the wells offered water to desert plants. Researcher Erick Lundgren, from Aarhus University in Denmark, described the wild horses as “natural engineers” — animals that change the environment around them. Perhaps the best known natural engineers are beavers (河狸). Beavers cut down trees with their teeth, creating space in woods where sunlight can reach smaller plants and allow them to grow. Then beavers use the wood to create dams across rivers, which help clean pollution in water and protect their homes. More than 12,000 years ago, several kinds of horse-related animals lived in North America but they all died out. Today’s wild horses develop from animals that were brought to America by humans in the past few hundred years. By digging wells that help other animals, they may be providing a similar service of natural engineering once given by their extinct relatives. 12. Why did the wild horses dig the wells? A. To protect themselves. B. To help other animals. C. To get drinking water. D. To create living space. 13. What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us about the study? A. The result. B. The method. C. The purpose. D. The problem. 14. What can we learn about the wells? A. They were dug with horses’ teeth. B. They were found near running rivers. C. They reached as deep as four meters. D. They provided water for desert plants. 15. What advantage can small plants get because of beavers? A. More sunlight. B. More water. C. Less pollution. D. Less space. If sports are something that interests you, you must want to know how to be good at them. 根据Gum Shoe中“Clean the bottom of your shoes before walking in a new place — the seeds from other places might be under your shoes, which can harm the living areas of some animals and plants. (在进入一个新地方之前,清理你的鞋底 —— 其他地方的种子可能粘在你的鞋底,这会破坏一些动植物的栖息地。)” 可知,种子可能会破坏一些动植物的栖息地。故选 D。 【2题详解】 细节理解题。根据Fire Safety中“If you go camping, build campfires only in areas allowed, and make sure they’re fully put out before moving on. (如果你去露营,只在允许的区域生火,并且在离开前确保火完全熄灭。)” 可知,如果露营时想要离开,应该把火熄灭。故选B。 【3题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Lots of people are working hard to protect forests, and you can, too. Follow these tips to help keep the planet’s forests standing tall. (很多人都在努力保护森林,你也可以。遵循这些小贴士,帮助保持地球上的森林茁壮成长。)”接着介绍了一些保护森林的具体方法,所以文章主要是关于森林保护的。故选A。 B Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. 根据第二段“the precious product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. (这种precious产品曾经只供皇帝和王子享用,后来也进入了普通百姓家。)” 可知,曾经只有皇帝和王子能享用,说明它很有价值且昂贵。故选 A。 根据第二段“In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared. The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass on the art except those aging sugar painters. (然而,遗憾的是,这种民间艺术最近正在消亡。由于需求减少,曾经形状丰富的糖画变得越来越单一。更糟糕的是,除了那些上了年纪的糖画艺人,似乎很少有人愿意传承这门艺术。)”可知,作者对糖画现状表示担忧。故选C。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. It’s the sugar for us to taste, and the painting for us to admire. (糖画,顾名思义,是用糖制作而成的画。它既有供我们品尝的糖,又有供我们欣赏的画。)”可知,主要介绍了糖画这一民间艺术,包括其起源、制作方式、现状以及作者对其传承的看法。所以短文的最佳标题为“探索糖画艺术”。故选A。 C Most people have an inner (内心的) voice. A. It is always inside your head. “It’s hard to have a try.” C. “It’s okay to make mistakes.” D. “I have to find the books.” 11. What’s the best title for this passage? A. Talk Kindly to Yourself B. Make Friends for Yourself C. Look Deep inside Yourself D. Build Confidence by Yourself 【答案】8. C 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第一段“What you say to yourself, and how you say it, makes a difference to how you think, feel and behave, so it’s worth paying attention to it.(你对自己所说的话以及说话的方式,都会对你的思维、情感和行为产生影响,因此值得你加以关注)”可知,要留意自己内心的声音是因为它会影响你的思想和行为。 根据第三段“If you keep telling yourself you can’t do math or you’re not good at making friends or you’re not creative, over time you’ll believe what your inner voice is saying.(如果你总是对自己说“我数学不行”或者“我不擅长交朋友”或者“我没有创造力”,久而久之,你就会相信自己内心所表达的这些想法)”可知,如果你一直对自己说“不”,你会相信自己所说的话。 根据最后一段“For example, when you get things wrong, tell yourself it’s okay and you’ll learn for next time.(例如,当你犯错时,告诉自己没关系,这样你就能从中吸取教训,以便下次避免同样的错误)”可知,“犯错误也没关系”是积极的内心声音的一个例子。 根据第二段“Young people’s coach Maria Evans says it should be treated with kindness.(青年队教练玛丽亚·埃文斯表示,应该以友善态度对待它)”以及最后一段“Noticing what your inner voice says and choosing to talk encouragingly to yourself can help you feel more confident.(留意自己内心的声音所传达的信息,并选择以鼓励的语气对自己说话,这能够帮助你增强自信心)”结合文章指出内心声音影响人的思维、感受和行为,持续自我否定会产生负面效果,积极对话能增强自信,应友善对待内心声音可知,A选项“与自己友善交谈”最符合文章标题。故选A。 D New research has found that wells dug by wild horses in deserts provide valuable drinking water. D. Less space. 12. C 13. B 14. D 15. Everyone had studied hard day and night. Now that they were finally over, everyone felt so relieved. They were all looking forward to the winter vacation. People were thinking about lazy mornings, staying in bed late, and having lots of fun. Jane and Alice were two very good friends. They were always together. For weeks, they had been planning to go to the movies on the first day of the vacation. They picked a movie that they both really wanted to see. On the morning of that special day, Jane woke up early. She was super excited. She put on her favorite skirt. Then she sat in the living room, waiting for Alice. Time passed very slowly. Every minute felt like an hour. Alice didn’t show up. Jane called Alice many times, but no one answered. After an hour, Jane started to get worried. She also got a little angry. She thought Alice had forgotten about their plan. Two hours later, Jane decided to go to Alice’s house. When she got there, Alice’s mom opened the door. She looked sad. She told Jane that Alice had suddenly fallen ill that morning. She had a high fever and was feeling very bad. Jane’s anger went away right away. She just wanted to see her friend. When Jane went into Alice’s room, she saw Alice lying in bed, looking very pale. Alice opened her eyes slowly and said weakly, “Jane, I’m so sorry. I really wanted to go to the movies with you. I set my alarm last night, but this stupid fever messed everything up.” Jane walked up to Alice’s bed and sat down beside her. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When Alice fully recovered, they decided to have a celebration at Jane’s house. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 Jane walked up to Alice’s bed and sat down beside her. At first, a touch of disappointment still lingered in Jane’s heart because she had been looking forward to their movie date for so long. However, after seeing Alice’s sickly state, her disappointment quickly melted away, replaced by deep concern. “Don’t worry, Alice,” Jane comforted. “Your health is the priority. We can watch the movie later.” She dipped a cloth in cool water, gently squeezed it, and placed it on Alice’s forehead to reduce the fever. Alice’s mom, watching with gratitude, thanked Jane sincerely for her kindness and care. Jane smiled back, saying, “Auntie, that’s what friends are supposed to do.” With time ticking away, Alice made slow but steady progress towards better health. When Alice fully recovered, they decided to have a celebration at Jane’s house. When Alice arrived, she was greeted with a huge smile and a tight hug from Jane. Eager to create a memorable celebration, they both got busy in the kitchen. They put on aprons and started making their favorite pizza together. As evening fell, they settled themselves on the couch, with food in front, ready to watch the long-awaited movie. The moment the movie started, their excitement was evident in every gesture. During the funny scenes, their laughter echoed through the room. For these two girls, this celebration wasn’t just about Alice’s recovery but also a testament to their unbreakable friendship that had only grown stronger through this experience. 词汇激活 行类 ①(时间)流逝:tick away/pass by ②取代:replace/take place of ③开始:start/begin 情绪类 ①难忘:memorable/unforgettable ②激动:excitement/thrill 【点睛】[高分句型1] With time ticking away, Alice made slow but steady progress towards better health.(运用with的复合结构) [高分句型2] When Alice arrived, she was greeted with a huge smile and a tight hug from Jane.(由when引导时间状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
