六、阅读理解
As a grandma, who played on the Banff girls’ ice hockey(冰球) team 50 years ago, I finally worked up the courage to play the sport with my 8-year-old grandson and his dad.
“Grandma scored,” my son shouted.
“Of course she did,” my grandson said. “She was on a hockey team a really long time ago.”
My heart melted. Memories of playing hockey as a teenager began to flood my mind. In the mid-1970s, two brave Banff High School teachers started our girls’ hockey team and asked us to join the Minor Hockey League. We had many difficulties to overcome before our first game: learning the rules, adapting to hockey skates, and mastering stick handling, passing and fast skating.
Our first real game was against a team from Jasper. They skated fast. They dodged(躲闪) and passed and zipped up and down the ice like superstars. And then our captain got pushed into the boards hard. I stood there with my mouth open. My teammates wore similar expressions. Our coach — speechless. We all looked at the judge. He did nothing. Then, as I was making a pass to a teammate, I got hit. I rolled over, got up on my knees and gasped(喘气) for air.
“It’s a long way from your heart,” our coach shouted. “Get up!”
Those were the exact words I needed to hear to stop the tears and get back in the game. We lost 13-0. We should have been sad about it but we weren’t. We were just thankful we could all still walk to the dressing room.
A month later we played Jasper again. We lost 4-0, but they hadn’t killed us this time — both physically and on the scoreboard. A proud loss. Our final game against Jasper was at the Easter Tournament on our home ice. And guess what, we scored a goal — the only goal of the game. We were victorious!
Next month, my grandson will play in the arena where we beat Jasper years ago. I can’t wait to walk down the arena’s Hall of Fame with him and show him our team picture. When stepping onto the ice wasn’t as wobbly(摇晃的) for me as it is today.

As a coach of young soccer players, you play a vital role in shaping their skills on the field. 1 But how can you fill these values in your young players? Here are some tips.
When your players make a mistake, it matters to teach them to take responsibility. Instead of allowing a child to blame others, guide them to recognize their error and encourage them to do better next time. Taking responsibility doesn’t have to be just for mistakes or failures. 2
When a teammate makes a mistake, teach your players to forgive and support them. Encourage all of your players to offer words of encouragement. 3 Your support also helps players learn how to forgive themselves, which allows them to move on, keep playing, and improve.
4 As a coach, help your young athletes see defeats as chances to grow and improve. Encourage them to reflect on what they could do better rather than focus on the defeat. Congratulate them on their effort and remind them that losing a game doesn’t make them losers!
Winning should be celebrated, but not at the expense of others’ feelings. Teach your players to be humble winners Celebrate your team’s success, but also take time to appreciate the effort of the opposing team. 5 Recognize what the opposing team did was impressive and admirable.
A. Remember, as a coach, you’re a role model.
B. Teaching sportsmanship is just equally important.
C. Encourage your players to shake hands with the opponents.
D. Losses are valuable learning opportunities for young players.

Winning should be celebrated, but not at the expense of others’ feelings. Teach your players to be humble winners Celebrate your team’s success, but also take time to appreciate the effort of the opposing team. 5 Recognize what the opposing team did was impressive and admirable.
