There are many reasons why this has been possible, but one of the main reasons has been the Chinese writing system. At the beginning, written Chinese was a picture-based language. It dates back several thousand years to the use of longgu-animal bones and shells where symbols were carved by ancient Chinese people. Some of the ancient symbols can still be seen in today’s hanzi. By the Shang Dynasty (around 1600-1046 BCE), these symbols had become a well-developed writing system. Over the years, the system developed into different forms, as it was a time when people were divided geographically, leading to many kinds of dialects (方言) and characters. This, however, changed under Emperor Qinshihuang of the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BCE). Emperor Qinshihuang united the seven major states into one unified country. Since then, the Chinese writing system had started to develop to the same. That writing system was of great importance in uniting the Chinese people and culture. Even today, no matter where Chinese people live or what dialect they speak, they can all still communicate in writing. Written Chinese has also become an important tool to connect China’s present with its past. People in modern times can read the classic works which were written by Chinese in ancient times. The beauty of the Chinese writing system can be seen in the development of Chinese characters as an art form, known as Chinese calligraphy, which has become an important part of Chinese culture. Today, the Chinese writing system is still an important part of Chinese culture. As China plays a greater role on the global stage, an increasing number of international students are beginning to appreciate China’s culture and history through this amazing language. 29. Why did the Chinese writing system develop differently before the Qin Dynasty? A. People tried to make it look like art. B. Leaders asked different areas to use different writing. C. People used different materials to write in different areas. D. People lived in separate places and developed their own ways. 30. What was important result of unifying the writing system under Emperor Qinshihuang? A. It made carving symbols on animal bones easier. B. It allowed modern people to completely stop using dialects. C. It became a tool to keep national unity with regional differences. D. It directly increased the number of international students in China. 31. What is the purpose of the passage? A. To compare ancient and modern Chinese art forms. B. To explain how Chinese calligraphy became popular. C. To discuss the role of the writing system in Chinese civilisation. D. To describe the important achievements of Emperor Qinshihuang. 32. Where is this passage most probably from? A. A travel guide about modern China B. A history textbook on Chinese culture C. A news report on international education D. A fictional novel set in ancient China 【答案】29. D 30. C 31. C 32. I was the third of five sons. My childhood was very happy. I liked going to school and learning new things. ▲ One day, Father asked, “Lemuel, have you thought about your future? I think you would be a good doctor.” I wanted to please him, so I said, “Yes, Father. I’ll go to Cambridge University and study medicine.” But as I spoke, I was thinking, “At university, I can also learn things that will be useful to a sailor.” After several years of study, I became a doctor. Not long after, I asked my sweetheart, Mary, to marry me. Before long, we had children, a boy and a girl. They gave us great joy. I enjoyed being a doctor for the first few years. But then I became bored, and ideas of travel filled my mind. I imagined going to far-off places and seeing wonderful new things. “Mary,” I said one day, “I need more adventures in my life. The captain of a ship about to sail has offered me a job as the ship’s doctor. I don’t know how long the journey will take, but I promise I will return. And when I do, I’ll tell you and the children all about my adventures.” So in 1699, I set sail on the Antelope from Bristol. That city is a large and very old port in the southwest of England. The captain was a good man and had sailed a great deal! “Welcome aboard. Doctor Gulliver,” he said, “First we’ll be sailing down the Atlantic Ocean and around the coast of Africa. Then we’ll sail through the Indian Ocean to the South Seas.” Our journey went well until one morning, somewhere near Tasmania in the South Pacific Ocean. “I don’t like the look of those clouds,” the captain said, “I think a storm is coming.” Within an hour, a big storm began. The sea rose in great, angry waves much taller than the Antelope. The wind, now as strong as a hurricane, made a terrible sound. “The wind is blowing the ship off course!” shouted the captain. “Look out!” Suddenly, with a loud crack, the Antelope hit some rocks and broke in half. The sailors fell into the sea. Many of them could not swim. The ship sank quickly, and I suppose everyone but me drowned. —Adapted from Gulliver’s Travels 33. This has always been unusual. To search an answer, a scientist named J.P. Guilford started a famous study of creativity in the 1970s, known as the nine-dot puzzle. He asked the participants to connect all nine dots using only four straight lines, without lifting their pencils from the page. All the participants looked for solutions within the square they imagined. Only 20 percent managed to break out of the square and continue their lines in the white space around the dots, while the rest of them were blinded by the boundaries (边界) of the square. The results of Guilford’s study led him to a conclusion: creativity needs you to go outside the box. The idea was widely spread soon. Overnight, it seemed that creativity experts everywhere were teaching managers how to think outside the box. The idea was so popular that no one thought of checking the facts. No one, that is, before two different research teams—Clarke Burmham with Kenneth Davis, and Joseph Alba with Robert Weisberg—did another experiment. To make sure that Guilford’s study is correct, both teams divided participants into two groups. The first group was given the same instructions as the participants in Guilford’s experiment. The second group was told to draw the lines outside the imagined box. Guess what? Only a little more than 20 percent solved the puzzle, which is no big difference from the result of Guilford’s experiment. Let’s look a little more closely at the surprising result. Solving this problem requires people to think outside the box. However, direct and clear instructions to “think outside the box” do not help participants improve their performance. The widely spread idea that out-of-the-box thinking makes people more creative can, in some way, be dangerous. After all, with one simple but brilliant experiment, researchers had proved that the connection between thinking outside the box and creativity was a misunderstanding. 37. The nine-dot puzzle study is mainly focused on ________. A. how people do things in real life B. how people think in different ways C. what people see in the experiment D. what knowledge people have learned 38. Why did the two research teams do the following experiment? A. To find out the main idea of Guiford’s study. B. To show different opinions against Guiford’s study. C. To collect supporting details for Guiford’s study. D. To double-check the correctness of Guiford’s study. 39. From the passage, we can learn that ________. A. boundaries sometimes make people think less creatively B. clear instructions influence how people solve problems C. few people performed better with the clear instructions D the methods of nine-dot puzzle study need to be improved 40. Which is the best title for the passage? A. Puzzle Solving: A Key To Creativity B. Nine-Dot Puzzle: A Magic Test C. Thinking Outside the Box: A Misleading Idea D. Creative Thinking: An Unusual Topic 【答案】37. B 38. D 39. C 40. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了九点谜题实验及其对创造力思维的启示,探讨了“跳出框架思考”这一流行观念的科学性验证过程。 【37题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段“How do people think differently? This has always been unusual. To search an answer, a scientist named J.P. Guilford started a famous study of creativity in the 1970s, known as the nine-dot puzzle.”可知,“九点谜题”这项研究主要关注的是人们是如何用不同的方法思考的。故选B。 【38题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“To make sure that Guilford’s study is correct, both teams divided participants into two groups.”可知,两个团队的实验目的是验证Guilford研究的正确性。故选D。 【39题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Guess what? Only a little more than 20 percent solved the puzzle, which is no big difference from the result of Guilford’s experiment.”可知,即便明确提示“跳出框架”,只有20%多一点的人解决了这个难题,这与Guilford的实验结果没有太大区别。由此推知,即使有明确的指示也几乎没有人做的更好。故选C。 【40题详解】 最佳标题题。文章结尾强调“researchers had proved that the connection between thinking outside the box and creativity was a misunderstanding.”,说明“跳出框架思考”与创造力的关联被误解,故最佳标题为“跳出框框思考:一个误导人的想法”。故选C。 第二节 填空(共5小题;每小题1分,满分5分) 阅读短文及文后A~E选项,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,把答案写在答题卷相应的空格中。 Careless mistakes used to bother me. Accepting this cuts down my stress and lets me focus on improvement. Later, I decide to check my mistakes every day. ___43___ This turns mistakes into chances to learn. Next, I create checking lists for many subjects. For maths, there are steps like checking answers and calculations. ___44___ These checklists become my guides, helping me through my work. Taking breaks is important too. Whenever I feel worried, I take a deep breath and slow down my thinking. This helps catch mistakes before they happen. What’s more, I celebrate my improvements, no matter how small. ___45___ A. I start by understanding that everyone makes mistakes. B. But over time, I realized that these mistakes showed deeper patterns in our thinking. C I develop a habit of marking down what is wrong and organizing my mistakes. D. (B) China is widely known for its ancient civilization (文明) which has continued all the way through into modern times. By the Shang Dynasty (around 1600-1046 BCE) these symbols had become a well-developed writing system. A fictional novel set in ancient China (C) In 1674, I was born on my father’s small farm in Nottinghamshire, England. Which sentence can be put into the blank ▲ in the first Paragraph? A. And I often used to daydream about studying medicine. B But I often used to daydream about being a good doctor. C. B. Lemuel had four brothers and two sons. C. Lemuel’s parents supported Lemuel to become a sailor. D. Lemuel was happy to go to university to study medicine. (D) How do people think differently? A. boundaries sometimes make people think less creatively B. clear instructions influence how people solve problems C. few people performed better with the clear instructions D. the methods of nine-dot puzzle study need to be improved 40. Which is the best title for the passage? A. Puzzle Solving: A Key To Creativity B. Nine-Dot Puzzle: A Magic Test C. Thinking Outside the Box: A Misleading Idea D.
