A 28-year-old man, Jack Pitcher, from Berkshire, the UK, has set a new British record for running across Australia, completing the 4,320 km journey from Perth to Sydney’s Bondi Beach in 61 days.
Jack Pitcher began the challenge on October 6, 2024, along with Joshua Smith, 21, from Reading. The two friends faced a number of challenges along the way. “Two weeks ago when we were running, Joshua pulled up quite quickly. He couldn’t carry on, so we had to call it a day,” said Mr Pitcher.

“This Asian comic exhibition (漫画展) is an artistic journey through time and imagination,” Anne Shih, chairwoman of the museum, said. “From traditional hand-drawn creations to the most modern digital (数码的) works, it helps people learn the start and development of Asian comics better.”

Cartoons are an important part of everyone’s childhood. They are a popular form of entertainment (娱乐活动) not only for children but also for adults. Through cartoons, children can learn about the world around them, different feelings, and the challenges they might face in the future. They also learn about reality, friendship, and responsibility.
Researchers have found that the environment, the examples children see, and the things they do greatly influence (影响) their behaviour (行为) when they grow up. The family plays a key role in a child’s development and good mental health. Therefore, it is important for families to help children develop a balanced lifestyle. Cartoons can be used at home or in school to start discussions on different topics.
Robinson and Schraw pointed out that cartoons help young children understand some difficult ideas more easily, develop their working memory and improve their visual learning skills. Disney films, for example, combine (结合) fun with life lessons about love, friendship, loss and the importance of family. Discussing these topics with children can help them grow in a healthy way, both inside and in how they act, according to a study by a university.
Today’s Disney films show more diverse families, which can help children understand and respect cultural differences. The idea of love has also changed in these films. Older Disney movies were mainly about romantic love, but newer ones like Frozen highlight the love between family members, like brothers and sisters.
As parents, it’s important to help children understand these stories, especially when they are too young to understand the deeper meanings. Watching cartoons together can also bring families closer and create stronger bonds.
