Last summer holiday, Aunt Emily took us to a safari park (野生动物园), not far from Liverpool.
I was very happy to go as I had never been to a safari park before. It’s a very interesting park, full of wild animals running freely.
When we got there, we bought our tickets and drove into the park. We were very excited at the thought of going to see the lions. But to get to the lions’ place we had to go through the monkeys’ land first. And that was an unforgettable experience because they climbed all over the car, ate apples and bananas, and threw all kinds of things at us. They seemed very unfriendly.
Anyway, we went on our way to the lions’ place where we had to lock ourselves in the car as we knew lions could be dangerous. A lion came up very close to us. Then it was on the bonnet (车盖). It looked calm but we felt terrified. Aunt Emily, who isn’t very brave, started to call for help. The kids started crying. Only my brother, George, stayed cool. I sounded the horn (喇叭) but nobody heard us.
In the end a guard arrived in his car, and the lion just got off our car and started smelling the guard’s hand as if nothing was the matter.
4. Which animal did the author want to see the most?
A. The lions. B. The elephants. C. The monkeys. D. All of them.

To solve a big environmental problem, chemists have been thinking small. Really small: a new mini robot with the purpose of helping clean up tiny plastic (微塑料) polluting water across the globe.
The new microrobot, is no bigger than the tip (尖) of a pencil, , magnetic (磁性的) and shaped like stars. When the sunlight shines on them, they can swim in a specific direction; when the sunlight disappears, they stop moving. Finding a piece of plastic, they hold onto it, and start to break it down (分解).
The project is led by chemist Martin Pumera, a researcher who also studies ways to build microrobots. About ten years ago, he noticed the microplastic (微塑料) everywhere, from the bottom of the ocean to the ice on the top of mountains, then even in drinking water. It doesn’t easily degrade (降解), which is a big problem. Therefore, Pumera decided to solve the problem of water pollution caused by microplastic.
The researchers tested the microrobots on four types of plastic in the lab. After a week, all four plastics began degrading, which indicated they were breaking down. Finally, the plastics could be collected for reuse without causing new pollution.
In fact, Pumera says they still have a long way to go. These microrobots are unlikely to succeed in degrading all types of plastics. They’ll also need a lot of testing to show that they’re safe in open waterways, such as at sea. But he thinks that these challenges can be overcome. Someday, the microrobots will play a big role in a worldwide cleanup effort.
12. What is the purpose of using a new mini robot?
A. To collect tiny plastics in the sea.
B. To put plastics into water.
C. To help do research work about pollution.
D. To help clean up tiny plastics in water.
13. What can be learned about the new microrobot?
A. It is of a round shape (形状). B. It is as small as a pencil.
C. It is driven by sunlight. D. It can not break down the plastic.
14. What inspired Pumera to design the microrobot?
A. The ice on the mountains. B. The ocean bottom.
C. The lack of drinking water. D. The microplastic pollution.
15. What is Pumera’s attitude to their future research?
A. Doubtful B. Confident C. Regretful D. Critical
【答案】12 D 13. C 14. D 15. B

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整短文。
On a bright, sunny day, my friend and I decided to have a hike up the nearby mountain. The weather was fine, with a gentle breeze (微风) and a clear blue sky overhead. We were having a great time in nature, looking at all the green plants and colorful flowers around us. As we climbed higher, we chatted about our plans for the future and shared laughter at our shared memories.
Suddenly, we heard a weak sound coming from a nearby bush. Curious, we approached as quietly as a mouse and discovered a small bird with an injured wing. It was clear that the bird was in trouble, and we really wanted to help. However, every time we tried to approach the bird, it would fly away in fear, staying away from us.
Deciding to save the little bird, my friend had an idea. He reached into his backpack and pulled out a small piece of fruit and bread that he had packed for our hike. Gently, he placed the foods near the bush, hoping they would get the bird to come closer.
At first, the bird remained careful, its eyes darting (转动) between us and the foods. Slowly, hunger seemed to overcome its fear, and it hopped towards the foods, carefully pecking at (啄食) the foods. My friend and I stayed very still, not wanting to frighten it away again.

At home, we took good care of the bird.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
After a few minutes the bird seemed to realize that we were not a threat. It began to eat more freely, and we were able to get closer within arm’s reach. At this time, my friend caught the bird quickly. The bird struggled in the hand, trying to fly away. Gently, we examined its injury, and then we wrapped a soft cloth around the bird. We decided to give up walking forward and take the bird home.
At home, we took good care of the bird. First, we cleaned the bird’s wound, and then we provided it with food and water. Over the next few days, the bird’s trust in us grew. It would allow us to touch its feathers and seemed to rely on our care. As the bird’s wing healed, we knew that eventually, we would have to release it back into the wild. On another fine day for hiking, we set the bird free at the same place where we saved it. We cherished the bond we had formed. Our mountain adventure was a journey of friendship and a reminder of the fine connection between humans and the natural world.

Critical
