B Nathaniel Wellen, a 15-year-old high school student from Los Angeles, has made a remarkable impression on ABC’s “Shark Tank” with his innovative product, The Duo. This umbrella features a second extendable handle, allowing two people of different heights to comfortably share it. Wellen first came up with the idea at age 8 and cooperated with his father the following year to develop, design, and patent the umbrella. During his appearance on the show, Wellen sought $100,000 in exchange for 10% of his company, which was still in the prototype (雏形) stage during filming. The investors on the show were impressed by Wellen’s initiative and creativity. Lori Greiner praised the umbrella’s compact (紧凑的) design, while Mark Cuban noted that Wellen served as an excellent role model for young ambitious entrepreneurs. However, Wellen revealed that he already had a partnership with Shed Rain, a weather accessories brand that owned 49% of his company and would assist with production and distribution, helping to place the product in major stores like Target, Walmart, Kroger, and Costco. The judges were particularly impressed that Wellen had secured this partnership through cold-calling and building a relationship with the CEO. Despite this, they pointed out that Shed Rain was already performing tasks that potential investors might have undertaken. Mark Cuban expressed concern that accepting a deal from the judges could dilute Wellen’s equity (股权) below 50%, advising him to be careful. Lori Greiner, Barbara Corcoran, and Kevin O’Leary also declined to make offers, with O’Leary citing Wellen’s age and school schedule as concerns, noting that he preferred to have direct access to his CEOs at all times. Robert Herjavec, however, saw potential in the partnership with Shed Rain and offered $100,000 for 20% of the company. After some negotiation, they agreed on 18% equity. On his way out, Wellen offered advice to other young entrepreneurs: “Just keep moving. Keep going. Reach for your goals and maybe you too will make a deal with Robert.” 4. What is the special feature of The Duo umbrella? A. It is wide when unfolded. B. It is made of unbreakable material. C. It can change colors automatically. D. It suits two people of different heights. 5. For what did Mark Cuban praise Wellen during his appearance on “Shark Tank”? A. His negotiation skills. B. His product’s market potential. C. His partnership with Shed Rain. D. His inspiration to young entrepreneurs. 6. What is the closest meaning of the underlined word “dilute” in paragraph 3? A. Replace. B. Cancel. C. Lower. D. Protect. 7. How much equity does Wellen hold after the deal? A. 18%. B. 31%. C. 33%. D. 36%. C Some people remember beginning high school sports classes by reaching for their toes. Then, over the years, we were told it was better to stretch after exercise. It turns out that both those things can be true, but different advice has made some people mixed-up. David Behm, from Memorial University of Newfoundland in Canada, spoke to Associated Press to give his advice on safe stretching. “It’s almost always good to stretch, but it’s better if you warm up first,” said Behm. He recommends activities such as jogging, walking or cycling for 5 or 10 minutes. Follow that with some static (静态的) stretching, the traditional way of reaching and holding a position. You can then do activity-specific dynamic stretching, in which you warm up the muscles with repetitive exercises like leg lifts. Should you always stretch before exercising? If it’s traditional stretching, not necessarily. “Weight training, for example, can be a good form of stretching, if you start with weights that aren’t too heavy,” Behm said. “You probably don’t have to do extra stretching unless you’re a gymnast, a figure skater, or even a golfer.” You don’t need to stretch first if you’re going for an easy run, either. Just start with a slow jog to warm up. After exercise, “Light stretching is OK, as long as you don’t reach a point where you’re feeling pain,” Behm said. If you’re playing a sport, static stretching before you start helps prevent muscle injury. And make sure to do the same amount of stretching on both sides of your body: Lacking flexibility on one side can lead to injury, he added. Different studies over the years have either encouraged or discouraged stretching before exercise. Behm said that this is partly because some studies were designed with top-level athletes in mind, not regular people. “If you’re Usain Bolt, it makes a difference,” said Behm. Not so much for the rest of us. 8. What does David Behm recommend doing before static stretching? A. Reaching for the toes repeatedly. B. Starting with heavy weight training. C. Warming up with activities like jogging. D. Doing activity-specific dynamic stretching. 9. Which group might need extra stretching before exercising according to Behm? A. Office workers. B. Regular joggers. C. High school students in general. D. Gymnasts, figure skaters, or golfers. 10. What does David Behm think of stretching before an easy run? A. It’s absolutely necessary. B. It’s enough to have a jog. C. It should be done by professionals. D. It’s dangerous and should be avoided. 11. What is the main purpose of the text? A. To offer advice on safe stretching. B. To advocate stretching before exercising. C. To discuss the benefits of weight training. D. To compare different stretching techniques. D Global scientists warned that 45% of known flowering plant species are at risk of disappearing, highlighting the urgent need for international action to address the planet’s sixth mass extinction, driven by human activity. This finding is part of the fifth annual report, “State of the World’s Plants and Fungi (菌类)”, from the U.K.’s Royal Botanic Gardens (RBG), Kew, which explores the biodiversity crisis and climate emergency. The report emphasizes that the resources and services nature provide, such as food and fresh water, are the result of long-term ecosystem development. Rapid decline of ecosystems, greenhouse gas emissions, and water pollution risk are affecting the global balance established through evolutionary (进化的) processes. Effective management of plants and fungi is crucial to preventing biodiversity loss and restoring ecosystems. “Every species we lose is a potential source of new medicines or solutions to hunger,” the report notes. The report relies on two major advances: The completion of the first geographically complete World Checklist of Vascular Plants and new data on fungal diversity from environmental DNA analyses. The checklist includes 350,386 known vascular (维管的) plant species, but as many as 100,000 more remain unidentified. Experts estimate that three out of four undescribed vascular plants are likely already at risk. Kew scientists suggest treating all newly described species as threatened unless proven otherwise. The fungi section of the report highlights that only 155,000 species have been formally named, with estimates of total diversity ranging from 250,000 to 19 million. Scientists now estimate there are 2.5 million fungal species, meaning over 90% remain unnamed. However, efforts to identify species continue, with over 8,600 plant species and 10,200 fungal species named since 2020. The Kew report follows other alarming studies this year, including findings that 34% of plant species and 40% of animal species in the United States are at risk of extinction. It also comes after the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework, a pact (公约) aimed at safeguarding nature, though some advocates argue it is not strong enough. 12. What is the main cause of the biodiversity crisis according to the report? A. Natural disasters. B. Human activities. C. Climate change alone. D. Lack of scientific research. 13. What can we infer about undescribed plant species? A. They exist mainly in laboratories. B. They are all safe from extinction. C. Scientists aren’t interested in them. D. Most of them may have been in danger. 14 What do we know about the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework? A. It lacks enough strength. B. It offers ways to restore wildlife. C. It is about protecting animal species. D. It has solved the extinction problem. 15. What is the best title for this text? A. Research into Plant and Fungi B. New Discoveries in Plant Science C. Plants and Fungi Are in Danger of Extinction D. The Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework Screens have a lot to answer for—sore eyes, children spending more time indoors, TikTok. And here’s another thing to add to the list; ____16____ It has been called “screen apnea (窒息)”, and the person who coined the term thinks that many of us hold our breath when we’re checking emails. You may have heard of “sleep apnea”, which is a common condition that causes sufferers to temporarily stop breathing while they are asleep. ____17____ At that time, she noticed she was holding her breath as she looked through her email inbox. Calling it “email apnea” at the time, Stone, who is not a scientist, went on to do some amateur research to find out if she was the only one doing this. ____18____ She tested 200 people she invited into her home, monitoring their heart rates and breathing while they checked their email. About 80% of people stopped breathing normally while checking, either holding their breath or changing their breathing pattern. But why? Stephen Porges, a professor of psychiatry, said that it may be a reflex. As with anything new that we are faced with, an email requires a response from our nervous system. It needs to check to see if that new thing is a threat—and this governs our reaction. But as our body does its checking, our breathing often gets shallower and our heart rate slows to allow us to focus—this is our body making a plan. And this may be what’s happening when we’re looking through our messages. ____19____ But if we’re doing it for hours every day, it’s going to have a negative impact on our bodies. ____20____ Be aware of your breathing, said psychotherapist (心理治疗师) Bryan Robinson, writing for Forbes. You could even set reminders to check your breathing, and take breaks from screens during the day to get up for some exercise. A. So what can we do? B. And it turned out she wasn’t. C. They can affect our breathing too. D. So why screen apnea takes place? E Most people are not aware of screen apnea. F. That might be okay now and again, says Porges. G. Linda Stone first wrote about screen apnea in 2008. Both of our parents were employed in the 1950s while my brother and sisters and I were growing up in our small town in southern Wisconsin. She was born with some extra weight and fluff (绒毛) and couldn’t remove it. When she was a baby, the other bees nodded on her, but now they often talked badly about her. “Shouldn’t she lose some more weight?” They often said, or “She’s not working as hard as us other bees.” When she heard these mean words, she put on her brave face and smiled, but when she came home, she often cried and wondered if those bees are right. One day, it was the first day of autumn, Nelly couldn’t take it anymore and flew away. It was lunch break, and no bee was working in the fields. Nelly was about to turn around to fly back, but the birds were singing such a lovely song, and the flowers broke into blossom in the midday light, that Nelly decided to use the lunch break to explore the fields. First, she flew to the ground and noticed small brown animals with tiny arms and legs. They called themselves ants. Nelly thought the world must be frightening if you are that small, but they didn’t seem to care, for they were busy working. Next, Nelly flew to a pond where she met a praying mantis (螳螂). She laughed because the mantis looked like grass. But when the praying mantis introduced herself in such an elegant manner and started to sing, Nelly felt shy and flew away with hot cheeks. On the way to return home, she saw a bee that looked just like her. “You are as fat as me!” she said. The other bee raised an eyebrow. “You call me fat? That is how bumblebees (大黄蜂) look like!” The other bee responded proudly. “Ah, a bumblebee,” Nelly said. “Then, am I also a bumblebee?” The other bee, whose name was Blossom, smiled warmly and nodded. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Hearing these words, Nelly’s heart was filled with pride. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 河北省2025年高二年级第二学期期末模拟检测 英语 本试卷共12页,满分150分。 How much is the shirt? A. 18%. B. 31%. C. 33%. D. 36%. D 5. D 6. C 7. 根据第一段“This umbrella features a second extendable handle, allowing two people of different heights to comfortably share it.(这款雨伞配有第二根可伸缩的把手,使得身高不同的两个人都能舒适地共用它)”可知,“双人伞”的独特之处是能适合身高不同的两个人使用。 根据第二段“Lori Greiner praised the umbrella’s compact (紧凑) design, while Mark Cuban noted that Wellen served as an excellent role model for young ambitious entrepreneurs.(洛里·格雷纳称赞了这款雨伞简洁的设计,而马克·库班则表示,韦伦是年轻有抱负的创业者们的一个杰出榜样)”可知,马克·库班在“鲨鱼坦克”节目中称赞韦伦的原因是他对年轻创业者的鼓舞作用。 根据第二段“However, Wellen revealed that he already had a partnership with Shed Rain, a weather accessories brand that owned 49% of his company and would assist with production and distribution, helping to place the product in major stores like Target, Walmart, Kroger, and Costco.(然而,韦伦透露,他已经与Shed Rain品牌建立了合作关系。该品牌是一家天气用品公司,拥有他的公司49%的股份,并将负责产品的生产和分销工作,从而帮助该产品进入诸如塔吉特、沃尔玛、克罗格和好市多等大型商店)”以及第四段“After some negotiation, they agreed on 18% equity.(经过一番协商,他们最终确定了18% 的股权比例)”可知,交易完成后,韦伦持有100%-49%-18%=33%股权。故选C。 C Some people remember beginning high school sports classes by reaching for their toes. C 9. D 10. B 11. 根据第三段“He recommends activities such as jogging, walking or cycling for 5 or 10 minutes.Follow that with some static ( 静态的 ) stretching, the traditional way of reaching and holding a position.(他建议进行诸如慢跑、散步或骑自行车等运动,每次持续5到10分钟。然后做一些静态拉伸,这是传统的到达和保持姿势的方式)”可知,大卫·贝姆建议在进行静态拉伸之前先通过慢跑等运动来热身。故选C。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“You probably don’t have to do extra stretching unless you’re a gymnast, a figure skater, or even a golfer.(除非你是体操运动员、花样滑冰运动员,甚至是高尔夫球手,否则你可能不需要额外进行拉伸运动)”可知,瑜伽运动员、花样滑冰运动员或高尔夫球运动员在锻炼前可能需要进行额外的拉伸运动。 根据第四段中的“You don’t need to stretch first if you’re going for an easy run, either. Just start with a slow jog to warm up.(如果你只是进行轻松的跑步,那么事先也不需要做拉伸运动。 A。 D Global scientists warned that 45% of known flowering plant species are at risk of disappearing, highlighting the urgent need for international action to address the planet’s sixth mass extinction, driven by human activity. 14. What do we know about the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework? The Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第一段中“Global scientists warned that 45% of known flowering plant species are at risk of disappearing, highlighting the urgent need for international action to address the planet’s sixth mass extinction, driven by human activity. (全球科学家警告称,45%的已知开花植物物种面临消失的风险,突显了国际社会亟需采取行动应对由人类活动引发的第六次大灭绝。)”可知,根据报告,生物多样性危机的主要原因是人类活动。故选B项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“The checklist includes 350,386 known vascular (维管的) plant species, but as many as 100,000 more remain unidentified. Experts estimate that three out of four undescribed vascular plants are likely already at risk. (这份清单包括350386种已知的维管植物,但还有多达10万种尚未确定。专家估计,四分之三未被描述的维管植物可能已经处于危险之中。)”可推知,大多数未被描述的植物物种可能已经濒危。故选D项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“It also comes after the Kunming-Montreal Biodiversity Framework, a pact (公约) aimed at safeguarding nature, though some advocates argue it is not strong enough. (此前通过的《昆明-蒙特利尔全球生物多样性框架》旨在保护自然,但一些倡导者认为其力度不足。)”可知,该框架缺乏足够的力度。故选A项。 Screens have a lot to answer for—sore eyes, children spending more time indoors, TikTok. D So why screen apnea takes place? E. Most people are not aware of screen apnea. F. That might be okay now and again, says Porges. G. Linda Stone first wrote about screen apnea in 2008. C 17. G 18. B 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 前文“Screens have a lot to answer for—sore eyes, children spending more time indoors, TikTok.(屏幕引发的问题可不少——眼睛酸痛、孩子待在室内的时间变长、沉迷 TikTok。)” C项“They can affect our breathing too.(它们(屏幕)还会影响我们的呼吸)”与上下文衔接自然,引出“screen apnea”这一主题,因此符合语境。故选C。 【17题详解】 前文“You may have heard of “sleep apnea”, which is a common condition that causes sufferers to temporarily stop breathing while they are asleep.(你可能听说过“睡眠呼吸暂停”,这是一种常见病症,患者会在睡眠时暂时停止呼吸。)” 后文提到“At that time, she noticed she was holding her breath as she looked through her email inbox.(当时,她注意到自己在浏览电子邮件收件箱时会屏住呼吸。)” G项“Linda Stone first wrote about screen apnea in 2008.(Linda Stone在2008年首次写了关于屏幕呼吸暂停的文章。)” 【18题详解】 前文“Calling it “email apnea” at the time, Stone, who is not a scientist, went on to do some amateur research to find out if she was the only one doing this.(当时,并非科学家的斯通(Stone)将其称为“电子邮件呼吸暂停”,随后她开展了一些业余研究,想看看是否只有自己会这样做。)” 后文“She tested 200 people she invited into her home, monitoring their heart rates and breathing while they checked their email. About 80% of people stopped breathing normally while checking, either holding their breath or changing their breathing pattern.(她邀请了 200 人到家中,在他们查看电子邮件时监测他们的心率和呼吸情况。大约 80% 的人在查看邮件时呼吸不再正常,要么屏住呼吸,要么改变呼吸模式。)”提到她测试了200人,发现80%的人有类似现象。B项“And it turned out she wasn’t.(事实证明她不是。)” Stephen Porges, a professor of psychiatry, said that it may be a reflex.(但为什么会这样呢?精神病学教授Stephen Porges表示,这可能是一种本能反应。)”解释屏住呼吸可能是身体的应激反应。后文“But if we’re doing it for hours every day, it’s going to have a negative impact on our bodies.(但如果我们每天花数小时这样做,就会对身体产生负面影响。)” F项“That might be okay now and again, says Porges.(Porges说偶尔这样可能没问题)”和后文形成对比,符合“偶尔无害但长期有害”的论述逻辑,因此符合语境。故选F。 【20题详解】 前文讨论问题(屏幕窒息的危害),后文“Be aware of your breathing, said psychotherapist (心理治疗师) Bryan Robinson, writing for Forbes. You could even set reminders to check your breathing, and take breaks from screens during the day to get up for some exercise.(要留意自己的呼吸。你甚至可以设置提醒来检查自己的呼吸,白天也要从屏幕前休息一下,起身做些运动。)”给出解决方案(注意呼吸、设置提醒、适当休息)。A项“So what can we do?(那我们能做什么?)” 故选A。 Both of our parents were employed in the 1950s while my brother and sisters and I were growing up in our small town in southern Wisconsin. “You are as fat as me!” she said The other bee raised an eyebrow. “You call me fat? We are a different kind of bee, with our own unique appearance and abilities. Our extra fluff and weight are not shortcomings but blessings that help us keep warm in cooler temperatures and protect us from enemies. It’s important to remember that we are all unique and valuable in our own ways. Be proud of yourself! You are perfect just the way you are.” Hearing these words, Nelly’s heart was filled with pride. “Thank you, Miss!” Nelly said with a big smile on her face. “From now on, I won’t be scared and think something is wrong with me.” Then she said goodbye to the bumblebee.
