On a Saturday afternoon, you find most kids outside playing games. Kids were made for the outdoors, with their endless energy and the easy way in which they make friends. It’s not different for Kameron, an ordinary, fun-loving 7-year-old girl who loves to draw out the world’s longest hopscotch(跳格子) on the sidewalk.
In between jump-rope games, basketball shootouts and skateboard races, Kameron takes time to do something special for her neighbors. Kameron’s community is home to a good mix of young families and elderly neighbors whose children have long since left home. Kameron first started waving to them. Most of them smiled back.
Then Kameron decides that some of them need a little pleasure. So she runs home, takes her violin and makes the rounds. “Can I play you a song?” she asks, after knocking on the door.
Gustav smiles wide. He has beautiful white hair and a soft accent. He grew up in Scandinavia and is a wood finisher. His wife Vivian has a smile that fills their tiny home. She stands awkwardly, and has difficulty moving about. It looks terribly uncomfortable. Vivian has had muscular dystrophy (肌肉萎缩) for over 20 years. Gustav is her full-time caregiver. They’ve replaced their daily walks with afternoon drives, but even those are getting too difficult for Vivian.
Gus lets Kameron in, and Vivian takes hold of both their arms and pulls to her chair. On the table beside her is a photo of her with Gus when they were young and energetic, traveling around Europe, Egypt and Iceland. In the photo, Vivian is very beautiful, and Gus is handsome.
“Want me to play your favorite song?” Kameron asks. “Of course,” Gus answers. It is the only song Kameron knows.
The small violin rests seriously under Kameron’s chin(下巴). She plays as best she can. Vivian beats her knee obviously to keep rhythm(节奏) for Kameron. Gus holds Vivian’s other hand. It’s not the performance that is moving, but the memories it brings.
4. What is Kameron special compared with other kids?
A. She likes playing outside. B. She cares about the elderly.
C. She has plenty of energy. D. She can draw on the sidewalk.
5. Why did Kameron knock on a couple’s door?
A. To sing a song to them. B. To learn the violin from them.
C. To cheer them up with music. D. To invite them to go to a concert.

A. Go for a walk. B. Make a drive.
C. Stay at home. D. Do woodworking.

One night, as I was driving down the road, I found something was sitting in the middle of the road. A few seconds later, I realized I was looking at a large turtle (海龟). Afraid of it being crashed by cars, so I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety. But I’d made one big mistake.
I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake. While the turtle turned out OK generally, I was determined to figure out how to move a turtle properly. I needed to find someone who dealt with turtles. I found the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. I talked to Dr. Sue, its Executive and Medical Director.
Dr. Sue told me that the organization dealt with a number of aspects of turtle conservation, including rescue, settlement, birth programs, research, and education. Sue explained that southern Ontario is home to a vast majority of turtles in Canada, but is also one of the vastest road networks of the country.
“Ninety percent of injured turtles brought in are caused by cars. These turtles spend a lot of time on land. And they do travel many kilometers on land for a variety of reasons, to find a nesting spot, or to hang out for the summer or winter. Turtles know where they want to go. So, just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life,” Dr. Sue said.
Once an injured turtle arrives at the center, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go, including an X-ray machine. That’s when the team gets to work with healing injuries, and help their patient.
8. Why did the author stop the car?
A. To help the turtle. B. To see the thing clearly.
C. To prevent a car accident. D. To find something good.
9. What happened to the turtle?
A. It got hurt by people before. B. It was injured a little bit.
C. It was run over by a car. D. It lost its direction.
10. What did Dr. Sue suggest at last?
A. Leaving the turtles alone.
B. Making Ontario home to turtles.
C. Changing the road conditions.
D. Helping turtles find nesting spots.
11. What does the underlined word “patient” refer to in the last paragraph?
A. The director. B. The driver.
C. The author. D. The turtle.
【答案】8. A 9. B 10. A 11. D

【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据第一段中“A few seconds later, I realized I was looking at a large turtle (海龟). Afraid of it being crashed by cars, so I pulled over, ran across the road and dragged the turtle to safety.(几秒钟后,我意识到我看到的是一只大乌龟。我怕乌龟被车撞坏,就把车停在路边,跑过马路,把乌龟拖到安全的地方)”可知,“我”把车停在路边,跑过马路是为了把海龟拖到安全的地方。故选A。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段中的“I had heard that the best way to pick up a turtle without hurting it was picking it by the tail in order not to get bitten. So I’d made that big mistake.(我曾听说,要想抓住乌龟而不伤着它,最好的办法就是抓住它的尾巴,以免被它咬伤。所以我犯了一个大错误)”可知,“我”听说抱起海龟且不伤害它的最好方法是抓住它的尾巴,这样就不会被咬到。所以“我”犯了那个很大的错误。由此可推知,海龟因为“我”的错误操作而受伤了。故选 B。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段最后两句“‘Turtles know where they want to go. So, just keep them going in the direction they want to go and you may have saved a turtle’s life,’ Dr. Sue said.(‘海龟知道自己要去哪里。所以,只要让它们朝着它们想去的方向前进,你可能就救了一只海龟的命,’Sue博士说)”可知,Sue博士说海龟知道自己要去哪里,因此,只要让海龟朝着自己想去的方向走,你就可能拯救了一只海龟的性命。由此可知,帮助海龟最好的办法就是不干涉它。故选 A。
【11题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段第一句的“Dr. Sue told me that the organization dealt with a number of aspects of turtle conservation, including rescue, settlement, birth programs, research, and education.(Sue博士告诉我,该组织处理了海龟保护的许多方面,包括救援、安置、生育计划、研究和教育)”和最后一段第一句“Once an injured turtle arrives at the center, there are medical facilities (设备) ready to go, including an X-ray machine.(一旦受伤的海龟到达该中心,就会有医疗设施准备就绪,包括x光机)”可知,一旦受伤的海龟到达海龟保护中心,这里已经准备好了医疗设施,医务人员就可以帮助他们的病人疗伤。由此可推知,此处的画线词“病人”指的是受伤的海龟。故选 D。

Skill of copying and moving images onto paper is an art form shining in history, Zhao Xu reports. Rubbing, the tracing (描摹) of characters onto a piece of paper, reached its golden age during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
To do this, a thin piece of paper was placed over the surface of the stone tablet (石板) carved with characters. Then water, or later, ink, was applied smoothly to the back of the paper with just the right amount of pressure, to soften the paper and allow for a total moving of the details onto it. The paper was left to dry and then be lifted off the stone surface, carrying with it a copy of the original (原作).
Repeated hundreds of thousands of times during the Song era, this hands-on skill enabled educated members of Song society to have a chance to learn from master calligraphic works either from their own times or from earlier dynasties. Oftentimes, the original calligraphy, or even its stone version, became lost over time, thus making the rubbings the only surviving copy of the masterworks that had once existed. In that sense, the Song rubbings, and those behind them; have helped to preserve a cultural relic much valued then and now.
Now, art lovers have the chance to visit it at an exhibition (展览) held at Beijing’s Palace Museum themed the Song rubbings. Of the 40 pieces on show, 20 are drawn from the collection of the Palace Museum, which holds a total of 150 Song rubbings. The other half are lent for the first time by the Art Museum of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), whose collection of rubbings were donated by J. S. Lee.
“What we have here is not just a showcase of the beauty of ink and paper, the art of calligraphy, carving and rubbing, but also the telling of stories shining in cultural pride and common spirit,” said Wang Xudong, director of the Palace Museum.
12. What do we know about rubbing?
A. There were five steps to make a rubbing. B. It moved characters from paper to a stone.
C. It was well developed in the Song Dynasty. D. Pressure was applied to the paper to smooth it.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The development of rubbing. B. The importance of rubbing.

C. She has plenty of energy. D. She can draw on the sidewalk.
5. Why did Kameron knock on a couple’s door?

B. The driver.
C. The author. D. The turtle.

S. Lee.

12. What do we know about rubbing?

A. The development of rubbing. B. The importance of rubbing.

B. Twenty of the rubbings were donated by CUHK.
C. Sources of the exhibits are from two organizations.
