B In Brazil, despite the fact that English is part of the school curriculum (课程), most students only learn the basics and simply don’t have enough interest to go beyond that level. Like many Brazilian students, I paid little attention to English. That changed when I planned to study in the United States. Fortunately, my parents encouraged me to go further, so I registered for a private English course, and attended classes three times a week. After a few months, I could clearly see the improvement in my level of understanding. Still, becoming fluent wasn’t easy. Learning a new language takes time and patience. It’s common to feel discouraged, especially when trying to speak. I often forgot words or couldn’t express myself clearly. At first, I was embarrassed, but I soon realized that making mistakes was part of the process. The real progress came when I stepped out of my comfort zone. Practice, even when it was difficult, helped me grow more confident. Looking back, I believe motivation was the key factor in my improvement. At first, I studied English because it was expected. But when I decided to go abroad, I had a clear purpose in my mind. I knew that my success would depend on how well I could speak and understand English in the US. It pushed me to study harder, practice more, and never give up. Motivation matters in everything we do, and language learning is no exception. Whether you want to travel, study overseas, meet new people, or improve your career chances, you need a reason that keeps you going. For me, studying in another country gave me that reason. It changed the way I saw English — from a school subject to a life skill. Learning a language isn’t always easy, but with strong motivation, progress will come. Keep going, and one day, you’ll see how far you’ve come. 4. Why did the author start taking English seriously? A. He wanted to become an English teacher. B. He intended to study in a foreign country. C. His parents forced him to take English exams. D. English was required for high school graduation. 5. How did the author achieve fluency eventually? A. By grasping basic skills. B. By correcting mistakes timely. C. By attending formal training regularly. D. By facing difficulties bravely. 6. What motivated the author to stick to practicing English? A. His desire for perfection. B. His interest in wider culture. C. The clear learning goal. D. The academic requirements. 7. What can be the best title for the text? A. My Journey of English Learning B. A Guide to Mastering Language C. The Importance of Studying Abroad D. My Learning Struggles in Brazil C Fast fashion has a significant environmental impact. According to the UN Environment Programme, the industry is the second biggest consumer of water and is responsible for about 10% of global carbon emissions—more than that of all international flights and maritime shipping combined. Fortunately, the solution might lie in slow fashion. The term, slow fashion, refers to the widespread reaction to fast fashion and its environmental impact. It calls for stopping excessive (过度的) production, overcomplicated supply chains, and mindless consumption. It advocates production that respects people, the environment and animals. The World Resources Institute suggests that companies need to design, test and invest in business models that reuse clothes and maximize their useful life. The UN has launched the Alliance for Sustainable Fashion to address the damage caused by fast fashion. It is seeking to halt the environmentally and socially damaging practices of fashion. One way that shoppers can reduce their consumption of fast fashion is by buying from secondhand sellers like ThredUp Inc. and Poshmark. Another solution is renting clothes from companies or websites, like the Rent the Runway and Gwynnie Bee, Girl Meets Dress, and the Dutch firm Mud Jeans that rents organic jeans which can be kept, swapped or returned. Instead of being thrown away after a single wear, as is often the case with fast fashion items, rented clothes get the chance to be cherished, reused, and reimagined. Governments need to be more actively involved in addressing the fashion industry’s damaging effects. UK ministers rejected a report by members of parliament calling for action to deal with the environmental effects of fast fashion. On the other hand, French president, Emmanuel Macron, has made a pact with 150 brands to make the fashion industry more sustainable. The best advice on reducing the environmental impact of fast fashion comes from Patsy Perry, senior lecturer in fashion marketing at the University of Manchester, who says, “Less is always more.” 8. What does slow fashion seek to do? A. Slow down fashion production. B. Promote traditional clothing styles. C. Minimize environmental damage. D. Simplify clothing design processes. 9. What does the underlined word “halt” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Confirm. B. Cease. C. Assess. D. Delay. 10. How do clothing rental services help slow fashion? A. By extending the life cycle of clothes. B. By improving production cycles. C. By expanding customer groups. D. By reducing the cost of purchasing. 11. Which of the following may Patsy Perry agree with? A. Buy only what is needed. B. Follow closely what is popular. C. Avoid fashionable clothes. D. Promote local brands. D Social media can help scientists track animal species as they relocate in response to climate change, new research shows. The “range” inhabited by many species is shifting, and this is mostly tracked by formal monitoring schemes and surveys — but these methods may struggle to spot rapid changes, and sometimes fail to include urban areas. The new study examined posts about Jersey tiger moths (虎蛾) on Instagram and Flickr. Instagram posts revealed that the moths are unexpectedly common in towns and cities, and — more importantly — the findings demonstrate how social media can be used to monitor our fast-changing natural world. “Wildlife surveys are done in rural areas, so their information doesn’t always reflect the vital importance of towns and cities,” said Nile Stephenson, who led the study. “Urban parks and gardens provide diverse habitats where species like the Jersey tiger moth can live successfully. By accounting for biases (偏差) and gaps in the data, we have developed a method that could be widely used to track many species, especially those that share our urban environments. Jersey tiger moths are found across much of Europe, and the researchers searched social media for posts about them. “Our study shows that plenty of people in towns and cities are interested in wildlife, which has the potential to increase connectedness to nature,” said Stephenson.” We also found some people who are very interested in wildlife and photography post images of a wide range of wildlife they see. This provides large amounts of data that scientists can use.” Stephenson said the public can also help by posting on platforms such as iNaturalist and iRecord, as information from these is already used in research. The team highlighted the limitations of using social media, saying it can only be used to support, not replace, traditional monitoring. “Because social media tend to be heavily influenced by trends, we would expect to see biases — such as more sightings of species that are being widely talked about,” Stephenson said. “However, we can turn that into a positive. For example, we could improve monitoring of invasive (入侵的) species by making trends around recording sightings.” 12. What is a limitation of traditional wildlife monitoring methods? A. They are highly influenced by climate change. B. They rely heavily on researchers’ experience. C. They are intended for specific species. D. They are likely to leave out certain habitats. 13. What can be learned about Jersey tiger moths? A. They grow better in urban environments. B. They’re rarely found in parks and gardens. C. They have become attractive to some city people. D. They’re a potential threat to the urban ecosystem. 14. Why are iNaturalist and iRecord mentioned? A. To show the convenience of using the Internet. B. To stress the popularity of authoritative platforms. C. To compare the data quality on these two platforms. D. To encourage public participation in data collection. 15. What does Stephenson think of using social media to track animal species? A. It is mainly used to deal with invasive species in urban areas. B. It will be helpful to traditional methods when biases are addressed. C. It will be the trend for monitoring animal species in the future. D. It is ineffective because of its unavoidable data mistakes. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。 If you want to enjoy the weekend fully, you must make it productive. In our softball team’s locker room, the atmosphere was electric. The usual chatter about upcoming games and practice schedules had been replaced by discussions about our annual holiday plans. “Exchanging gifts and team dinners are so predictable,” our captain said with a dismissive wave of her hand. Her eyes, bright with determination, scanned the room as she continued, “Let’s do something truly meaningful this year, something that will leave a lasting impact.” Our coach, who had been listening quietly, leaned forward and cleared her throat. “There’s a shelter nearby,” she began, her voice gentle yet serious. “It houses young girls who have been separated from their families due to all sorts of hardships. Some have faced more in their short lives than most of us could ever imagine. This Christmas, they’ll be spending the holiday away from the warmth and comfort of home, without the usual joys that come with this special time of year. Let’s do something for them.” Her words sparked a flame in all of us. We immediately sprang into action. For days, we stood on street corners with donation boxes, sharing the girls’ stories with strangers. To our great relief, when people heard our deeds, they came to give us donations of their own. At toy stores, we gathered together, carefully selecting gifts perfect for different ages, imagining the smiles they’d bring. And soon, we collected many gifts for the girls. Though I missed some Spanish classes, I didn’t feel any regret, because I thought this would be more meaningful. The wrapping day transformed my home into a festive workshop. Colorful wrapping paper crinkled under our fingers. We laughed while trying to deal with the knotted ribbons (丝带). But every misstep turned into a shared joke, and soon, dozens of beautifully wrapped presents awaited delivery. On a Sunday, as our bus pulled up to the shelter, my stomach was filled with butterflies. Then, reality hit—none of us had realized the girls only spoke Spanish. Nervous looks flashed across the faces of the group. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Then all eyes settled on me. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Before long, the shelter witnessed a lively party. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 高二年级下学期期末学业质量监测 英语 考生注意: 1. How much is the shirt? Although I wasn’t fluent in Spanish, I had learned some basic conversation in class. Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward and greeted the girls with a smile. To my surprise, they responded warmly. Encouraged, I introduced our team and the gifts we brought. Seeing me try, my teammates joined in with gestures and smiles. The language barrier slowly disappeared as we shared laughter and kindness.
