B I drove through our neighborhood with my husband, the place we’d called home for 26 years. The Sierra Nevada foothills, once thick with towering pines, were unrecognizable. The ground was covered with a thick blanket of ash. We’d gotten an early-morning call telling us to move out immediately two weeks earlier. The wildfire tearing through Northern California had spread and was heading our way. We jumped in the car with our dogs and a few belongings. For days, we bounced from hotel to hotel, desperate for news. What finally came wasn’t good. Our house had been right in the fire’s path. Now we’d been given permission to return. My husband and I brought shovels (铁铲), work boots, masks and gloves. We would “rescue” anything we could. We drove slowly through the ruins, where chimneys marked the spots where homes once stood. I wasn’t prepared for what awaited us. Our house was nothing but rubble (碎石). Most of our belongings, including my precious collection of inspirational books, were all gone. I wiped away tears as we dug through the ash. We uncovered a cast-iron umbrella stand that used to stand beside our door, and a decorative dish our son had given me, blackened but whole, which reminded us of bits and pieces of our life. How will we survive this? It felt as if our lives had been wiped out. We stopped digging in late afternoon. My husband loaded what we’d found in the car and said, “Let’s go.” I turned to get in the car. That was when I noticed something stuck to my boot. A piece of paper. I picked it up. Its edges were burnt, but the words were surprisingly clear, “If life seems difficult, I pause and reflect on the blessing sometimes hidden within every circumstance. With renewed faith and courage, I begin again.” The words must have come from one of my books, a passage I couldn’t recall but now said everything I needed to hear. I framed that piece of paper and kept it on the nightstand in every hotel and motel we stayed in over the following months. It now sits in a place of honor in our new home, a reminder that we can begin again. 24. What can we learn from paragraph 2? A. The author’s family left home hurriedly. B. The author’s family lost everything in the fire. C. The wildfire first broke out close to the author’s home. D. No warning about the wildfire was given two weeks earlier. 25. How might the author feel when she was digging through the ash? A. Astonished. B. Motivated. C. Desperate. D. Grateful. 26. When was the text written? A. When the wildfire spread. B. When the author stayed in a hotel. C While the author’s house was being rebuilt. D. After the author’s family settled down again. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A narrow escape. B. Rising from the ash. C. An attempt at a rescue. D. A wildfire in North California. C Nestled in the waters off the coast of Tuscany, Italy, an unusual seafloor sculpture park is safeguarding its ocean environment. Fisherman Antonio Verdi has been casting his nets in these waters since his youth along the Maremma coastline. It was in the 1980s that he began to notice the clear signs: the seabed was becoming barren, with exhausted fish stocks. Until recently, Antonio Verdi has found himself not only competing with the decline of ocean resources but also with threatening practices of illegal “bottom trawlers (拖网捕鱼的人)”, who randomly spoil a large quantity of ocean life as they fish, dragging a weighted net along the seafloor behind their boats. Antonio Verdi’s style of artisanal fishing (手工捕鱼), in contrast, is friendly to nature as damaging the ecosystem could reduce fisher-men’s income. He understood that the success of his fishing activity was linked to the good state of the environment. The underwater “House of Fish” sculpture park, which was started in 2015, was encouraged by this fisherman. “One of the most effective solutions is to physically prevent trawling through artificial reefs, so I started working on this project, trying to combine the protection of the seabed with something that could also give an added value to our environment, something as beautiful as a sculpture,” he stated. Sculptures or rocks can break weighted trawler nets. They can also function as artificial reefs, offering habitats for corals and other sea creatures. Due to the presence of the underwater sculptures, some species not seen in a long while such as groupers and lobsters have rejoined the waters. The sculpture park represents both an artistic expression and a defence against destructive seafloor trawling. Presently, 39 massive stone sculptures are scattered across the seabed along an area of Tuscan coastline near the town of Talamone. In the near future, Antonio Verdi hopes to extend his protective efforts in coastal waters. “The sea is still under threat,” he says, “and my mission to protect it continues.” 28. What does the underlined word “barren” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Fruitful. B. Delicate. C. Unproductive. D. Fertile. 29. How does Antonio Verdi’s fishing differ from that of the illegal “bottom trawlers”? A. He uses larger nets to catch more fish. B. His method is less damaging to the ecosystem. C. He focuses on catching specific high-value fish. D. His fishes with the help of underwater sculptures. 30. What impact has the sculpture park had on the local ocean life? A. A decline in the variety of fish and other creatures. B. A shift in the types of fish caught by local fishermen. C. The return of species that had previously disappeared from the area. D. The construction of more artificial reefs to conserve are species. 31. What message is conveyed according to the project mentioned in this article? A The ocean is too vast to be affected by human activities. B. Human activities have no significant impact on sea creatures. C. The only way to protect sea creatures is to prohibit human activities. D. Fishing should be in line with efforts to maintain a healthy ocean ecosystem. D If you were to throw, say, a banana peel out of your car while driving along the motorway, that would be a completely harmless action, due to the fact that it’s part of a fruit — right? Actually, no. A banana peel can take up two years to decompose (分解), and with a third of motorists admitting to littering while driving, that’s a whole lot of waste banana peels, or much worse. An orange peel and a cigarette butt has a similar biodegrading (生物降解) term to that of a banana, but tin and aluminum cans last up to 100 years; and plastic bottles last forever, as do glass bottles and plastic bags. Despite the fact that longer-lasting materials will serve to damage the environment, we can’t only measure the severity (严重) of a certain type of rubbish by its lifetime. For example, despite having a fairly short biodegrading span, more than 120 tons of cigarette-related litter is thrown in the UK every day. Similarly, our regular littering here and there has caused the UK’s mouse population to increase by 60 million. This suddenly isn’t so mysterious when you consider that since the 1960s our annual littering has increased by an astonishing 500 per cent. It’s not a cheap habit either: UK taxpayers spent£500 million on keeping the streets clean. So, it’s not surprising that if caught fly-tipping, you could face a £20,000 fine. Regardless of how severe the punishment might seem, however, among the reported cases only 2,000 were punished out of 825,000, so we still have some way to go in making sure people obey the rules. To take back our beautiful cities, we need to do more than simply not leaving rubbish where it ought not to be. We need to care more about the world around us. 32. Which of the following is the easiest to decompose in the passage? A. A glass bottle. B. An orange peel. C. An aluminum can. D. A plastic bag. 33. What can we know from paragraph 2? A. Annual littering has increased a little in the U. K. since the 1960s. B. Shorter-lasting materials will be less harmful to the environment. C. Cigarette-related littering is a severe environmental problem in the UK. D. Regular littering has caused the UK’s mouse population to reach 60 million. 34. Which of the following can best describe the UK’s punishment on littering? A. Every little helps. B. More haste, less speed. C. No pain, no gain. D. A drop in the bucket. 35. How does the author sound when mentioning the current situation of the city? A. Concerned. B. Reserved. C. Dismissive. D. Ashamed. Being studious (好学的) isn’t just about spending hours with your nose in a book — it’s about developing a mindset that makes learning exciting and rewarding. While studious people do prioritize their studies, they also understand the importance of balance and staying motivated. ___36___ By embracing this approach, you can stay committed to your studies without losing the joy of learning. Consider this study technique the next time you hit the books. ___40___ Though you may think studious people never have fun, it’s actually very important to remember to relax and take a break every once in a while. If you’re only focused on your studies, then you’ll feel burned out and like you’re under a lot of pressure to keep up. Reward yourself for your hard work. C. Compare your progress to yourself, not others. D. You may also find that you learn more from a close friend than from a teacher. E. Before every swim meet, he would have a bowl, believing it was his lucky charm. At first, it seemed to work. He won race after race, feeling on top of the world. His confidence soared, and he thought the ice cream was the secret to his success. His parents, though concerned about the unhealthy habit, let it slide as long as he was winning. However, as time passed, Mike started to gain weight, and his performance in the pool suffered. He went from first place to last, and his once-unbeatable feeling was gone. He was confused and disappointed, not understanding why his "lucky charm" had failed. His parents decided it was time for a change. They sat him down and explained the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise. Reluctantly, Mike agreed to give up the ice cream and start training harder. His father offered to run with him, and they began a strict workout routine. At first, it was tough. Mike missed the comfort of his favorite ice cream, and practices were harder without the extra energy boost. But slowly, he started to feel healthier and stronger. His breathing improved, and he could swim faster and longer. The day of the final swim meet of the season arrived. Mike stood at the edge of the pool, feeling nervous but determined. He took a deep breath, remembering all the hard work he and his dad had put in. With a powerful dive, he entered the water and began to swim. Stroke by stroke, he pushed himself, ignoring the burning in his muscles. As he swam, he could hear the cheers of the audience faintly in the background. With every lap, he gained more confidence. When he made the final turn, he saw the finish line ahead. He gathered all his strength for one last burst and touched the wall. As he lifted his head out of the water, Mike glanced up at the scoreboard. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Shortly after coming out of the pool, Mike rushed to his parents excitedly. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $2、英语试卷听力部分,第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。 Have a look at this piece of wood i'm working on. With renewed faith and courage, I begin again.” The words must have come from one of my books a passage I couldn’t recall but now said everything I needed to hear. C. While the author’s house was being rebuilt. D. After the author’s family settled down again. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A narrow escape. B. Rising from the ash. C. An attempt at a rescue. D. A wildfire in North California. A 25. C 26. D 27. 由文章第二段中“We’d gotten an early-morning call telling us to move out immediately two weeks earlier. The wildfire tearing through Northern California had spread and was heading our way. We jumped in the car with our dogs and a few belongings. For days, we bounced from hotel to hotel, desperate for news. (我们一大早就接到电话,告诉我们两周前立即搬出去。席卷北加州的野火已经蔓延,正朝着我们的方向前进。我们带着我们的狗和一些物品跳上车。几天来,我们从一家酒店跳到另一家酒店,迫切需要消息。)”可知,作者一家匆忙离开了家。故选A。 由文章第四段“I wiped away tears as we dug through the ash. We uncovered a cast-iron umbrella stand that used to stand beside our door, and a decorative dish our son had given me, blackened but whole, which reminded us of bits and pieces of our life. How will we survive this? It felt as if our lives had been wiped out. (我们在灰烬中挖掘时,我擦去了眼泪。我们发现了一个曾经放在门边的铸铁伞架,还有一个儿子给我的装饰盘,虽然变黑了,但还是完整的,这让我们想起了生活中的点点滴滴。我们将如何度过这一难关?感觉好像我们的生命被抹去了。)”可知,当作者在灰烬中挖掘时,她感到绝望。故选C。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。由文章最后一段中“It now sits in a place of honor in our new home, a reminder that we can begin again. (它现在坐落在我们新家的荣誉之地,提醒我们可以重新开始。)”可知,文章是在作者一家安顿下来后写的。故选D。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章倒数第二段中“A piece of paper. I picked it up. Its edges were burnt, but the words were surprisingly clear, “If life seems difficult, I pause and reflect on the blessing sometimes hidden within every circumstance. With renewed faith and courage, I begin again. ” (一张纸。我把它捡起来了。它的边缘被烧毁了,但文字却出奇地清晰:“如果生活看起来很艰难,我会停下来反思有时隐藏在每种情况下的祝福。带着新的信仰和勇气,我重新开始。”)”和最后一段中“It now sits in a place of honor in our new home, a reminder that we can begin again. (它现在坐落在我们新家的荣誉之地,提醒我们可以重新开始。)”可知,文章讲述了作者一家在火灾后失去了一切,但在废墟中发现了一段鼓舞人心的话,让他们重新开始了新的生活。因此,B选项“Rising from the ash (从灰烬中崛起)”最适合作为文章的标题。故选B。 C Nestled in the waters off the coast of Tuscany, Italy, an unusual seafloor sculpture park is safeguarding its ocean environment. A. The ocean is too vast to be affected by human activities. B. Human activities have no significant impact on sea creatures. C. The only way to protect sea creatures is to prohibit human activities. D. Fishing should be in line with efforts to maintain a healthy ocean ecosystem. C 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第二段中“It was in the 1980s that he began to notice the clear signs: the seabed was becoming barren, with exhausted fish stocks. (早在20世纪80年代,他就开始注意到明显的迹象:海底正在变得barren,鱼类资源枯竭)”可知,鱼类资源枯竭,说明海底正在变得贫瘠。由此可推测出barren的意思是“不毛的,贫瘠的”,与Unproductive意思相近。故选C。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Antonio Verdi’s style of artisanal fishing (手工捕鱼), in contrast, is friendly to nature as damaging the ecosystem could reduce fisher-men’s income. (相比之下,Antonio Verdi的手工捕鱼方式对自然更为友好,因为破坏生态系统会减少渔民的收入)”可知,Antonio Verdi的捕鱼方式对生态系统破坏较小。故选B。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Due to the presence of the underwater sculptures, some species not seen in a long while such as groupers and lobsters have rejoined the waters. (由于水下雕塑的存在,一些很久没见过的物种,如石斑鱼和龙虾,又回到了这片水域)”可知,雕塑公园使得一些之前从该地区消失的物种重新出现。故选C。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Antonio Verdi’s style of artisanal fishing (手工捕鱼), in contrast, is friendly to nature as damaging the ecosystem could reduce fisher-men’s income. He understood that the success of his fishing activity was linked to the good state of the environment. (相比之下,Antonio Verdi的手工捕鱼方式对自然更为友好,因为破坏生态系统会减少渔民的收入。他明白,他捕鱼活动的成功与环境状况的良好息息相关)”以及最后一段中““The sea is still under threat,” he says, “and my mission to protect it continues.”(“海洋仍然受到威胁,”他说,“我保护海洋的使命仍在继续。”)” D。 D If you were to throw, say, a banana peel out of your car while driving along the motorway, that would be a completely harmless action, due to the fact that it’s part of a fruit — right? 34. Taking breaks for fun will actually lead you to enjoy the learning experience more when you return to it, and will help you become studious. A. Remember to have fun. B. Reward yourself for your hard work. C. Compare your progress to yourself, not others. D You may also find that you learn more from a close friend than from a teacher. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version : As he lifted his head out of the water, Mike glanced up at the scoreboard. His name was at the top, displaying a personal best. Not only had he regained his strength, but he also surpassed his previous records. Pride and relief surged through him as he realized his hard work had paid off. The early morning runs, disciplined diet, and relentless training had brought him back to victory. The crowd’s cheers echoed, but what truly mattered was the quiet satisfaction of overcoming his struggles. This win was different—it was about perseverance and growth, not just luck. Shortly after coming out of the pool, Mike rushed to his parents excitedly. His face was glowing with excitement as he hugged them tightly. They hugged back, their eyes filled with tears of joy. Mike felt grateful for their unwavering support. He understood that the real key to his success was discipline and resilience, not the ice cream he once relied on. This victory wasn’t just about swimming; it was about proving to himself that he could rise up to challenges and achieve his goals through hard work and determination. 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:display/demonstrate/show ②重要:matter/count ③克服:overcome/get over ④意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①快乐:joy/delight ②宽慰:relief/comfort 【点睛】【高分句型1】Not only had he regained his strength, but he also surpassed his previous records.(运用了部分倒装句式)   【高分句型2】The crowd’s cheers echoed, but what truly mattered was the quiet satisfaction of overcoming his struggles.(运用了what引导的主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
