三、阅读(共两节,满分35分)
第一节 阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从26~40各题所给的A、B、C和D项中选出最佳选项,在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
(A)
When I was a boy, my mum used to say I would read the back of a medicine bottle if I didn’t have a book in my hand. It was true, and even now that reading habit has been with me. I always have at least one book being read, sometimes I might have two or three. And I’m talking about real books, books made out of paper, books that you can hold in your hand, to read, at the table, on the subway or my favorite place to read—in the bath.
But the number of people reading books is dropping. A recent survey tells us that Chinese people only read 4.77 printed books a year on average (平均) and in the US, 25 percent of the population say they didn’t read a book last year! So what’s stopping people from reading?
The answer of course is the huge influence (影响) that technology has had on our life. Why do you read a book when you can watch a movie or TV play on your smartphones or iPads? For younger people, books may not be as exciting as online games. With stories you have to work at it, closely follow the turns of the plot (情节). There are no shortcuts with a book. You have to turn page after page.
But you can still get lost in a book. We all have this thing called imagination. It’s much more powerful than any computer; in fact, it’s worth remembering that any online game was first written in words as a story by its writer. It’s all about his or her or their imagination.
So we need to read—if we do not read , it will be hard for us to improve our ability to think widely, to have an imagination. Reading is a process in which we need to compare and connect other things we have read and seen in the past. If you do not read, this will not only influence your study, but also your social life in the future.
So why not follow me from now on? Run a hot bath, or find a comfortable chair and read a good book for a few hours—there are quite many, for free, in your local library.
26. What can we learn from the writer from his early age?
A. The writer used to enjoy playing with a medicine bottle.
B. The writer has had the reading habit since his childhood.
C. The writer always has two or three books in his hand.
D. The writer often reads books at a table on the subway.
27. The number of people reading books is dropping because ________.
A. Books are becoming less interesting B. technology has greatly influenced our life
C. 25% of Americans don’t need books D. there aren’t enough printed books to read
28. According to the passage, which of the following is NOT true?
A. Reading can help to develop our imagination. B. All online games were first written in words.
C. We need to think a lot while reading a book. D. Younger people prefer books to online games.
29. In this passage, the writer mainly suggests that we should ________.
A. run a hot bath to read books B. borrow books from the library
C. read more books in our life D. read books in a comfortable chair
(B)
Some researchers find that less than half of a spoken message’s real meaning is in the words used in the message. They say that most of a message’s meaning comes from understanding how the speaker uses things like body language.
Just as there are many different languages spoken around the world, there are many different ways for people to use body language, too. For example, gestures may show different meanings in different cultures. Making a “thumbs up” sign in America means “Great”! However, in Arab cultures, this gesture is very impolite. And in India, if listeners want to show speakers that they understand, the listeners will move their heads from side to side. In many Western countries, a similar gesture means “no”.
Although many gestures can be explained differently by different cultures, there are also many gestures that are almost explained the same way. For example, a smile is understood as a sign of friendship or goodwill around the world.
There are also some forms of body language that can be usually read with the meaning, “I am interested in you”. These signs of interest include standing or sitting with both feet flat on the ground, mirroring or using the same gestures as the other person and turning one’s body to fully face the other person.
Body language that can be read with the meaning, “I am not interested in you” may include the following gestures: looking down or looking in another direction, crossing one’s arms or legs or tapping a foot or finger.
Body language experts point out one important thing. The person’s culture is only one factor that can have effect on his or her use of body language. The time and place where the body language is being used can have a lot to do with a person’s body language. If the person has had a bad day or if a meeting takes place in a crowded place, the body language a person uses maybe very different from that in other situations.
30. What does the second paragraph describe?
A. Differences in the meanings of gestures in different cultures.
B. An example of a gesture not used in India but in Western countries.
C. The same gestures with the same meanings in Arab and American cultures.
D. How gestures completely change the meaning of a persons words.
31. The underlined word “mirroring” in Paragraph 4is closest in meaning to _________.
A. reading B. using C. offering D. copying
32. Which gesture shows that you do not like the speaker?
A. Your eyes becoming wider when talking. B. Eating or drinking while the person speaks.
C. Not making eye contact with the speaker. D. Turning your body to face the speaker
33. How does the writer support his/her ideas in this passage?
A. By showing numbers. B. By giving examples.
C. By describing a course. D. By using time order.

A butterfly is an insect with a thin body and four wings. Its front wings are big and its back wings are small. Most butterflies fly during the day. When a butterfly rests, it holds its wings up toward the sky. Most butterflies have brightly colored wings.
A moth (飞蛾) looks like a butterfly. It also has two big front wings and two small back wings. Moths eat plants as most butterflies do. But there are also some differences between them. The body of a moth is often wider than the body of a butterfly. Most moths fly at night. When a moth rests, it makes its wings out. The wings of most moths do not have bright colors.
The life cycles of a butterfly and a moth are similar. However, their eggs are different in size and color. Some are so small that you can’t see them, Most of their eggs are green or yellow. Some are red or orange. Butterflies and moths always lay their eggs on the plants which they like to eat. They want to make sure that when their babies are hatched (孵化), they will have food to eat. When the eggs are hatched, the moth or the butterfly caterpillars (毛虫) come out. Caterpillars can be almost any color. There are three pairs of legs near the front of their bodies. Caterpillars eat all the time. Most butterfly and moth caterpillars eat green plants. They can make cocoons (茧). These caterpillars grow inside their cocoons. After a period of time, they will become butterflies or moths.
