His mother, who usually comforted (安慰) him, hadn’t returned from hunting. Hours passed, and Rusty’s worry grew into fear. He knew his mother wouldn’t give him up unless something was wrong.
Mustering courage, Rusty stepped into the storm. The muddy (脏的) forest paths (小径) felt unfamiliar, but he recalled his mother’s lessons—follow the smell. Sniffing (闻) carefully, he discovered weak foot prints leading toward human area, a place mother always warned him to avoid.
Near a farm, he found his mother trapped (陷入) in a fallen hunter’s net! She was exhausted (精疲力尽的) and bleeding. Seeing her, Rusty froze. Mother’s sharp teeth could not break the thick ropes. Suddenly, Rusty noticed a rusty sharp metal tool beside a tree stump (树桩). Using all his strength, he pulled the tool to his mother. Guided by her encouraging growls, Rusty pushed the sharp edge against the net until it opened.

It was the last day of our final exam. On the steps of one building, a group of engineering students were talking about their exam, which would begin in a few minutes. There was confidence on their faces. This was their last exam—then on to graduation and jobs. After four years of college, they felt ready to see the world.
The exam, they knew, would be easy. The professor (教授) said they could bring any books or notes they wanted. They went into the room. The professor gave out the papers. And smiles became bigger as the students saw there were only five essay (论文) questions.
Three hours passed. The professor began to collect the papers. The students no longer looked confident. Instead, they looked scared. The professor asked, “How many of you finished all five questions?” Not a hand was raised.
“How many answered four?” Still no hands. “Three? Two?” “One, then?”
But the class still stayed quiet. The professor put down the papers. “That is precisely what I expected,” he said. “The questions are out of your training. I just want to tell you that even though you have finished four years of college, there are still many things about engineering that you don’t know. The questions you can not answer are about things you will work on every day.” Then, smiling, he added, “You will all pass this course, but remember—even though you are now college graduates, your education has just started.”
Not everyone remembers this professor’s name. But all of his students remember his final lesson.

C. College students should learn engineering. D. Don’t stop learning until graduation.
12. What may be the best title of the passage?
A. A strict professor. B. The final lesson. C. Engineering students. D. Five questions

China has made a big step forward in its aviation industry (航空业). The C919 is first home-grown airplane in China. It means that China is now able to build its own airplanes. It can carry between 158 and 192 passengers and can fly distances (距离) between 4,075 kilometers to 5, 555 kilometers. That’s enough to fly from one side of China to the other! China Eastern Airlines uses its C919s first. It is already using them on several routes within China. Air China and China Southern Airlines have just taken delivery (运输)of their first C919 airplanes. They plan to use these planes on many different routes. It means more people will get to fly on them.
Up to now, more than 1,000 orders have been placed for the C919, and nine planes have been delivered. That’s a lot of interest in a new airplane! Air China, China Southern, and China Eastern have all ordered 100C919s each, and they expect to get all of them by 2031.
The C919 is not just about flying people from one place to another. It’s also helping China to develop new technologies and improve its manufacturing (制造业) skills. This can lead to even more advanced (先进的) products in the future.
China’s air travel market is growing-fast. In July, there were 69 million trips. It is a new record. As more people travel, the C919 airplanes will keep increasing. There will be more of them in the future. Experts predict that China’s air travel market will become the biggest in the world by 2043, and the C919 could be a big part of that growth.
So, the C919 is not just an airplane; it’s a symbol of China’s progress and a sign of even greater things to come in aviation industry.
13. Why the C919 is important for China’s aviation. industry?
A. Because it is a copy of a Boeing plane.
B. Because it is the first airplane to carry 192 passengers.
C. Because it is the only airplane used by Air China.
D. Because it is the first airplane made by China.
14. The C919 is first used by ________ Airlines.
A. Air China B. Airbus C. China Eastern D. China Southern
15. What does the underlined word “them” refer to in Para.5?
A. Trips. B. Records. C. Airplanes. D. Products.
16. What can we infer from the passage?
A. China’s aviation industry has a bright and hopeful future.
B. More than 10,000 orders have been placed for the C919.
C. The C919 is only about carrying people to travel.
D. More industries will be created because of the C919.

In the lively city of Suzhou, Jiangsu province, a man named Li Jing has created a peaceful and special space for himself. At 38 years old, he spends his days in a beautiful studio, handcrafting (手工制作) traditional Chinese round fans. He has loved making these fans for his whole life.
Li’s love for round fans started when she was in high school. While watching the amazing stage props (道具) in Peking Opera, he dreamed of collecting and restoring (还原) these beautiful fans. To follow his dream, he moved in 2009 from his hometown of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, to Suzhou, a city famous for its rich history of craftsmanship.
To Li, round fans combine many traditional skills, such as making the frame (骨架), designing patterns and adding decorations (装饰品).
Though round fans are normally small, Li believes they have endless creative possibilities. “Their surfaces can be made from materials such as silk or brocade (织锦) and decorated with painting,” he said. To make his fans, he focuses on the basics.
He finds inspiration in everyday life. “I enjoy finding ideas in the small details of daily life.” he said.
One of his most memorable experiences was during a television interview. When he saw shadows on a crumpled (弄皱的) piece of paper, he thought of a plum branch (梅枝). This inspired him to create one of his favorite fans, which became famous for its poetic simplicity. The fan was later used in a photo shoot with actress Liu Yifei.
