B. Do’s 2 and 4. C. Do’s 3 and 7. D. Do’s 5 and 6. B A bunch of strangers showed up at the gym in the early morning of the last Sunday of April. A few athletes were already stretching (拉伸) their arms, but most of us could barely focus. As I was burning off last night’s wrong decision-a big meal, I spotted a poster about a gym’s 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed up. I always wanted to train fora marathon, so I considered this as my warm-up. Besides, I needed to stop being lazy and this was my chance to make a change. It was easy to promise on paper but three weeks of recommended exercise routines and diet restrictions (限制) wouldn’t be easy. I stuck to working out 30 minutes a day, and I didn’t disturb (干扰) my normal routine. Instead, I had to be faced with the tough work of being more creative in my spare time, thus breaking some bad habits. Overcoming weaknesses with willpower was my goal for the next part of the journey. But the difficult part about making a challenge is realizing that “wanting” and “doing” are two very different things. Just like a career, you have to physically work for it rather than just wait for it to happen. But that’s hard. Throughout the 21 days, I often told myself that the challenge was meaningless and tried to sabotage myself from exercising. However, finally I overcame that negative thought and kept working out. At the end of the challenge, I learned something even more important: Feeling the results is better than seeing them. I had fewer headaches and more energy, and was simply happier. I even felt a little smarter as I researched which foods were better for my body, and learned how to make healthier meals. I felt a sense of accomplishment (成就), too, because even though I wanted to give up dozens of times, I didn’t. I felt my waist got smaller and my arms got stronger, and I no longer felt guilty after having a piece of cake or a drink. 4. What was the author’s wrong decision? A. Going to the gym early. B. Training for a marathon. C. Eating a lot the previous night. D. Stopping being lazy for a change. 5. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about? A. Some of the author’s bad habits. B. Some ways of the author’s killing his spare time. C. The importance of sticking to the normal daily routine. D. The difficulty of the author’s keeping on with the workout plan. 6. What does the underlined word “sabotage” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. stop. B. hear. C. improve. D. recognize. 7. What did the author learn from the workout challenge? A. Eating healthy food is more important than exercising. B. Overcoming a challenge could bring good feelings to him. C. It’s more important to see what he likes than just feel it. D. There was no need to feel guilty about things he disliked to do. C The World Happiness Report, a United Nations agency report, tells how happy people are, and why. Norway is the happiest place on Earth — beating neighbour Denmark from the number one position. Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland and Finland round out the top five, while the Central African Republic came last. Western Europe and North America took up most of the places at the top of table, with the US and UK at 14th and 19th. The World Happiness Report mainly depends on asking a simple question of more than 1000 people every year in more than 150 countries. “Imagine a ladder (梯子), with steps numbered from 0 at the bottom to 10 at the top,” the question asks, “The top of the ladder is the best possible life for you and the bottom of the ladder is the worst possible life for you. On which step of the ladder would you say you personally feel you stand at this time?” The average result is the country’s score — from Norway’s 7.54 to the Central African Republic’s 2.69. But the report also tries to explain why one country is happier than another. It looks at reasons including economic strength, social support, freedom of choice, and generosity (慷慨). This year’s report also has a text titled “restoring (恢复) American happiness”, which examines why happiness levels in the United States are falling, despite continually-increasing economic improvement. “The United States can and should raise happiness by solving America’s social problems — rising inequality and distrust — rather than focusing mainly on economic growth,” the authors said. 8. Which of the following is the correct order of the countries in terms of happiness levels? A. Denmark, the UK, the US, the Central African Republic. B. Denmark, the US, the UK, the Central African Republic. C. The US, Denmark, the UK, the Central African Republic. D. Denmark, the US, the Central African Republic, the UK. 9. How does the World Happiness Report measure happiness? A. By asking a question. B. By having a conversation. C. By doing scientific research. D. By carrying out an online survey. 10. What can we learn about America from the text? A. Its people live an unhappy life. B. Its economy is going downhill. C. Its social problems are hard to solve. D. It has a lower happiness level than before. 11. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the text? A. To explain the reason for being happy. B. To talk about America’s social problems. C. To introduce the World Happiness Report. D. To discuss the policies by the American government. D In a world-record effort to help save a valuable sea creature, Australian scientists have released hundreds of baby seahorses into the wild. The tiny seahorses are endangered, and the scientists hope the new seahorses will help their numbers grow. Seahorses get their name because they look a bit like horses. They aren’t great swimmers, even though they’re fish. They often use their tails to hold onto something in the water. They mostly live in warm, shallow waters around the world. They are often found in coral reefs, in beds of seagrass, and areas where rivers empty into the sea. Seahorses form an important part of the ocean’s food chain. They eat tiny sea creatures and are eaten by bigger sea animals. Many kinds of seahorses are often threatened by the human actions. Sometimes they’re caught and sold as pets. They are also caught by accident when people are trying to catch other fish. To begin the project, scientists collected three pregnant seahorses in January. Those seahorses were brought back to the aquarium (水族馆) in Sydney. After the babies were born, the scientists kept them there for five months, feeding the baby seahorses shrimps (小虾) to help them grow strong. Scientist Mitchell Brennan says, “They don’t have a stomach, so they have to eat constantly.” About a month before the young seahorses were released, the scientists created eight underwater “hotels” for them. The hotels look like cages, providing a safe place for the seahorses to develop. Putting the hotels into the sea early allowed the cages to be covered with small sea life that can help provide food for the seahorses. This is the fifth time the scientists have released seahorses into the area, and this time was a record. Around 380 seahorses were released. The researchers put tiny tags (标记) under the skin of many of the seahorses to help track them in the future. 12. What can be learned about seahorses from paragraph 2? A. They look exactly like horses. B. They have a gift for swimming. C. They mostly live in the deep sea. D. They feed on small sea creatures. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The types of the seahorses. B. Living conditions the seahorses need. C. Areas the seahorses live in. D. Dangers the seahorses face. 14. Why are the eight “hotels” put into the sea early? A. To differ the project from the former ones. B. To avoid danger the seahorses may face. C. To offer food to the seahorses. D. To help track the seahorses in the future. 15. What can be the best title for the text? A. A New Study on Endangered Seahorses B. Underwater “Hotels” for Baby Seahorses C. A Record Number of Baby Seahorses Were Released D. New Methods of Finding Endangered Seahorses Living a healthy life is all about choosing to make healthy choices each day. She had an unusual view on helping others that I didn’t really understand until one cold, winter day when we picked up my brothers at school. “Who is that child?” Mom pointed at a skinny, angry-looking girl across the street. “She doesn’t even have a coat. It’s freezing!” “That’s Becky Ingler. She always looks mad like that,” I replied. Becky didn’t have a father, and everybody laughed at her. “I’ll visit her tomorrow,” Mom said. The next day we went to the Inglers’ house. A tired-looking woman appeared, and Mom smiled, “Hello, Mrs. Ingler. I’m just visiting some of our neighbors.” Once inside, I noticed there was a rusty coal stove and a big messy bed. Mom looked at each of the children carefully. As we left, Mom told Mrs. Ingler she would visit them again soon. Mom’s old sewing machine (缝纫机) worked for two days and nights to turn some shabby clothes into stylish winter coats. She said to me, “I need your help to send these coats to the Inglers this afternoon.” “Wow!” I said. “They’re lucky to get these.” “No,” said Mom as she faced me. “We’re the lucky ones to be able to help them. We must make sure these coats are given freely, without the Inglers paying a price for them.” I didn’t understand what Mom meant. Mom explained, “I don’t want these coats to cost them their pride or dignity (尊严). We can’t show we are somehow better than they are.” I asked Mom what we should do if they refused the coats. Mom smiled and said, “I have a plan in mind.” Later that day, we went to the Inglers’ house again. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As we left, I noticed Becky examining the coats happily. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2025年春季学期六校联盟高一期中联考 英语试卷 考生注意: 1. How much is the shirt? A few athletes were already stretching (拉伸) their arms, but most of us could barely focus. As I was burning off last night’s wrong decision-a big meal, I spotted a poster about a gym’s 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed up. I always wanted to train fora marathon, so I considered this as my warm-up. Besides, I needed to stop being lazy and this was my chance to make a change. It was easy to promise on paper, but three weeks of recommended exercise routines and diet restrictions (限制) wouldn’t be easy. C 5. D 6. A 7. 根据第一段中“As I was burning off last night’s wrong decision — a big meal, I spotted a poster about a gym’s 21-day workout challenge, and I immediately signed up. (当我正在为昨晚的错误决定——一顿大餐——而精疲力竭时,我看到了一张关于健身房21天锻炼挑战的海报,我立即报名参加了)”可知,昨晚作者做了一个错误的决定:吃了一顿大餐,因此作者的错误决定是前一天晚上吃得很多。故选C项。 2.主旨大意题。根据第二段中“It was easy to promise on paper, but three weeks of recommended exercise routines and diet restrictions (限制) wouldn’t be easy. (在纸上承诺很容易,但三周的推荐锻炼计划和饮食限制并不容易)”可知,将承诺写在纸上是很容易的,但是坚持三个星期的锻炼和饮食限制并不容易,因此该段的主要内容是作者坚持锻炼计划的困难。故选D项。 3.词句猜测题。根据第三段中“Throughout the 21 days, I often told myself that the challenge was meaningless and tried to sabotage myself from exercising. A. stop阻止;B. hear听到;C. improve改善;D. recognize认可。 故选A项。 4. 根据第四段中的“At the end of the challenge, I learned something even more important: Feeling the results is better than seeing them. The World Happiness Report mainly depends on asking a simple question of more than 1,000 people every year in more than 150 countries. 8. B 9. A 10. D 11. Scientist Mitchell Brennan says, “They don’t have a stomach, so they have to eat constantly.” About a month before the young seahorses were released the scientists created eight underwater “hotels” for them. New Methods of Finding Endangered Seahorses 【答案】12. D 13. D 14. C 15. The next day, we went to the Inglers’ house. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Later that day, we want to the Inglers’ house again. “I know this might be an improper request, but I hope you won’t mind,” Mom smiled at Mrs. Ingler. “We have some winter coats here, and I just wondered if you might help deal with them. It seems a shame to donate them.” Mom lifted a beautiful coat out of the bag. Mrs. Ingler looked at the coat, and then glanced at Becky. “I’d be happy to help.” Mrs. Ingler gave my mother a knowing look. “Thank you.” “You’re doing us a favor,” Mom smiled. As we left, I noticed Becky examining the coats happily. She lifted her head and smiled al Mom and me. She looked so happy and satisfied. It seemed that she became a Becky I hadn’t seen before. And we smiled back. Over the years, I thought about how Mom accomplished that act of kindness, and about her gift for caring about others. What Mom did was truly an act of kindness. I will follow in Mom’s footsteps and care for others truly. 词汇激活 行为类 ①处理:deal with/handle/dispose ②完成:accomplished/complete/finished ③关心:care for/show concern for 情绪类 ①开心的:happy/delight/joyful ②满足的:satisfied/pleased 【点睛】[高分句型1]Over the years, I thought about how Mom accomplished that act of kindness, and about her gift for caring about others.(运用了连接副词how引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2]What Mom did was truly an act of kindness.(运用了连接代词What引导的主语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
