通读全文,尤其是第一段“Enjoy a museum visit with your class! (和你的班级一起去参观博物馆吧)”以及下文内容可知,文章主要介绍了一家博物馆为学生提供的可供选择的项目,以及具体的行程安排、参观时间、费用、监护人要求、午餐和相关规定等信息,属于博物馆的宣传广告。因此,文章应该出自报纸的广告栏目。故选D项。
B
My family moved to Melbourne where my father re-entered academia and my mother reshaped my life with devotion and patience. Abandoning dreams of a career may have been in keeping with her era, but my mother threw herself into motherhood. My tennis shoes always shone thanks to her care when I slept. At lunch, my friends crowded around my lunch, the tastiest with enough to spare.
My brother and I left home around age 16 for a better education. Our big house fell empty. There was no help and even no phone connection. Her “coping strategy” was to remind herself that she wanted us to have what she did not. Back then I was occupied with my own needs; today, I realise my mother paid for my education with her tears.
If her self-sacrifice lifted me to greater heights, her second quality built the foundation. When I was young, my mother displayed in me an absolute faith and absolute love. In her eyes, I could do no wrong that I couldn’t fix. She didn’t say overly sweet things to declare her love, but just being with her made me feel like I was the most important person in the world. My mother allowed me to live a fuller life than hers without bargain, or guilt. To this she added extraordinary generosity. Today I credit my strength and stability to the certainty that, regardless of who else judges me, my mother will not.
Currently I have my own kids. They are children of a different time. Today’s mothers have competing demands related to professional and personal goals. Sometimes, I must put my work above their needs. My mom tried to be my “everything” parent while I am what is called the good-enough mother at my best. We may differ in our methods and tools, but the essence of motherhood remains constant.
4. How does the author show her mom’s quality in the first paragraph?
A. By quoting a remark. B. By giving examples.
C. By making a comparison. D. By analyzing the cause.
5. Which words can best describe the author’s mother?
A. Optimistic and persevering. B. Hardworking and demanding.
C. Devoted and selfless. D. Cheerful and reliable.
6. What does the underlined phrase “good-enough mother” probably refer to in the last paragraph?
A. A mother who pursues perfection in childcare.
B. A mother who devotes herself wholly to her work.
C. A mother who places her kids’ needs above all else.
D. A mother who tries to balance her parenting with her career.
7. What can be the most suitable title for the text?
A. The Art of Being a Mother
B. Lessons of Love and Strength
C. Motherhood: The Greatest Adventure
D. Motherhood: A Journey of Sacrifice and Strength
B 5. C 6. D 7. D
根据第一段中“My tennis shoes always shone thanks to her care when I slept. At lunch, my friends crowded around my lunch, the tastiest with enough to spare. (由于她在我睡觉时的护理,我的网球鞋总是闪闪发光。午餐时,我的朋友们围在我的午餐周围,这是最美味的,而且有足够的余量)”可知,作者通过举出网球鞋和午餐两个事例来表明她的母亲的品质。故选B项。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段中“My family moved to Melbourne where my father re-entered academia and my mother reshaped my life with devotion and patience. Abandoning dreams of a career may have been in keeping with her era, but my mother threw herself into motherhood. (我的家人搬到了墨尔本,在那里我的父亲重新进入学术界,我的母亲用奉献和耐心重塑了我的生活。放弃职业梦想可能符合她的时代,但我母亲全身心地投入到做母亲的生活中)”和第三段中“When I was young, my mother displayed in me an absolute faith and absolute love. In her eyes, I could do no wrong that I couldn’t fix. She didn’t say overly sweet things to declare her love, but just being with her made me feel like I was the most important person in the world. My mother allowed me to live a fuller life than hers without bargain, or guilt.
根据划线部分的上文“Today’s mothers have competing demands related to professional and personal goals. Sometimes, I must put my work above their needs. (如今的母亲们在职业目标和个人目标方面有着相互竞争的需求。有时候,我必须把我的工作置于他们的需要之上)”可知,作者作为母亲面临着平衡职业目标和个人目标的难题,需要处理工作和孩子的需求的主次关系,再结合下文“We may differ in our methods and tools, but the essence of motherhood remains constant. (我们可能在方法和工具上有所不同,但母性的本质是不变的)”可知,作者认为自己和自己的母亲有所不同,但同样体现了母性;由此推知,划线部分指的是“一个试图在养育孩子和事业之间找到平衡的母亲”。故选D项。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第三段中“If her self-sacrifice lifted me to greater heights, her second quality built the foundation. (如果说她的自我牺牲使我达到了更高的高度,那么她的第二个品质则奠定了基础)”和“Today I credit my strength and stability to the certainty that, regardless of who else judges me, my mother will not.
C
The mysterious “Great Attractor” is pulling the Milky Way galaxy off course. No matter what you’re doing right now—sitting, standing, walking—you’re moving.
Specifically, you’re moving at least four different ways. First, the Earth is turning very fast while it’s in space, going about 1,000 miles per hour, or 1,600 kilometers per hour. This turning makes our days and nights. Next, the Earth and the other planets are going around the sun. We move at about 67,000 miles per hour, or 108;000 kilometers per hour. This movement makes our seasons and years. Also, the sun and everything around it is going around the middle of our galaxy (星系), the Milky Way, really fast, over 500,000 miles per hour, or 828,000 kilometers per hour. Plus, everything in the universe is always getting bigger as it spreads out.
But a long time ago, in the 1970s, space experts saw that something was different about the galaxies close to us, called the Local Group. These galaxies were being pulled away from their normal path really fast, towards something we couldn’t see. They named this place the Great Attractor, but it’s hard to learn more about it because we can’t see it well.
“The Milky Way has so many stars and dust, which hides the information we want to see in that direction. So our galaxy is hiding the Great Attractor,” says Jorge Moreno, a space expert at a college. This place we can’t see is called the Zone of Avoidance by people who study space. We still don’t know everything about why the Milky Way and the other galaxies are being pulled off course, but there have been some ideas. The newest idea is a very big group of galaxies called Laniakea, which means “big sky” in Hawaiian. Want to know more about space secrets? Send us an email at shortwave@ npr.org.
8. What causes the Earth’s days and nights according to the article?
A. The expansion of the universe. B. The Earth’s turning around itself.
C. The Earth’s orbit around the sun. D. The Earth’s turning around the Milky Way.
9. What does “Zone of Avoidance” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. A galaxy-free space. B. A hidden part of the sky.
C. The speed of galaxy movement. D. The cause of galaxy attraction.
10. What can be inferred about the Great Attractor from the information provided?
A. It is visible with the naked eyes.
B. It is located somewhere within the Milky Way.
C. It is a large object affecting the motion of nearby galaxies.
D. It is known to be a single galaxy which pulls on other galaxies around it.
11. Where might this article have been published?
A. A cooking blog. B. A fashion magazine.
C. A gardening enthusiast’s journal. D. A public radio program’s website.
B 9. B 10. C 11. D
根据第二段“First, the Earth is turning very fast while it’s in space, going about 1,000 miles per hour, or 1,600 kilometers per hour. This turning makes our days and nights.(地球在太空中自转得非常快,速度约为每小时1000英里或1600公里。这种自转造就了我们的白天和黑夜)”可知,地球的自转导致了地球的昼夜。故选B。
【9题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“The Milky Way has so many stars and dust, which hides the information we want to see in that direction.(银河系有这么多的恒星和尘埃,这隐藏了我们想要在那个方向看到的信息)”以及“This place we can’t see is called the Zone of Avoidance by people who study space.(这个我们看不见的地方被研究太空的人称为回避区)”可知,“Zone of Avoidance”是被银河系的恒星和尘埃所隐藏的天空部分,这使得我们难以观察到该区域背后的天体或现象。
根据第三段“But a long time ago, in the 1970s, space experts saw that something was different about the galaxies close to us, called the Local Group. These galaxies were being pulled away from their normal path really fast, towards something we couldn’t see. They named this place the Great Attractor, but it’s hard to learn more about it because we can’t see it well.(但很久以前,在20世纪70年代,太空专家发现,我们附近的星系有些不同,它们被称为本星系群。这些星系正以极快的速度被拉离它们的正常轨道,奔向我们看不见的地方。他们把这个地方命名为“大吸引者”,但很难了解更多,因为我们看不清楚)”可知,Great Attractor是一个巨大的物体,它影响了附近星系的运动。故选C。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“Want to know more about space secrets? Send us an email at shortwave@ npr.org.(想了解更多关于太空秘密的信息,可以发送电子邮件至shortwave@npr.org)”可知,NPR是一个公共广播节目,因此这篇文章很可能发表在公共广播节目的网站上。故选D。
D
The mere exposure effect, also known as the familiarity principle, is a psychological phenomenon that significantly influences our decision-making processes. It acts as a beneficial cognitive mechanism, conserving our energy by directing our focus elsewhere, as adjusting to novelties can be mentally taxing. Consequently, we tend to gravitate towards brands we're accustomed to, unless we've had a notably adverse experience with them. This is a key reason why businesses invest heavily in advertising and marketing, and why some insurance firms can afford to charge their existing customers more than newcomers.
Contrary to the belief that we only covet what we're already familiar with, some studies indicate that when we're prompted to express our preferences, we might perceive less familiar options as more appealing. However, when it comes to making a choice, we often revert to what we're aware of. This could account for the discrepancies between our desires and actions, such as returning to companies that have previously provided poor service or remaining in unsatisfactory relationships.
It may be tempting to view the familiarity principle as an adversary something to be overcome as it might seem to impede our progress toward realizing our aspirations. Yet, adopting such a stance could be counterproductive, as it nudges us toward macro-level thinking where change is perceived as requiring a drastic, dramatic shift that we might not feel prepared for. Some literature suggests that the antidote to the frustration stemming from familiarity is to immerse oneself completely in new experiences. While this might seem effective in the short term, it could lead to merely exchanging one set of problems for another, with the added risk of feeling overwhelmed and experiencing burnout.
What if, instead, we could harness the familiarity principle to our advantage? Familiarity is not just a constraint but also a foundation for creativity and a conduit for growth. We can gradually extend our comfort zone. By conceptualizing familiarity as something that can be broadened, we can alter the conditions within and around our lives to create more space for our preferences to take root and flourish gradually. From this perspective, we will begin to make choices from an increasingly rich reservoir of valuable alternatives.
12. What allows insurance companies to charge old customers more?
A. The improved service. B. The advertising cost.
C. The familiarity principle. D. The law of the market.
13. What can be learned from paragraph 2?
A. Our preferences affect our decisions.
B. Familiarity tends to generate disrespect.
C. The familiarity principle is a double-edged sword.
D. There can be an inconsistency between desires and actions
14. What is the author's attitude towards the solution in some arises?
A. Disapproving. B. Tolerant. C. Objective. D. Reserved.
15. How should we perceive familiarity principle according to the passage?
A. To treat it as an enemy.
B. To give top priority to it.
C. To replace it with exposure to novelty.
D. To gently use it to broaden familiarity zone.
C 13. D 14. D 15. D
根据文章第一段“This is a key reason why businesses invest heavily in advertising and marketing, and why some insurance firms can afford to charge their existing customers more than newcomers. (这就是为什么企业会在广告和营销上大量投资,以及为什么一些保险公司可以对现有客户收取比新客户更高的费用的关键原因。)”可知,保险公司可以对老顾客收取更高费用的原因是熟悉原则。故选C项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段“However, when it comes to making a choice, we often revert to what we're aware of. This could account for the discrepancies between our desires and actions, such as returning to companies that have previously provided poor service or remaining in unsatisfactory relationships. (然而,当涉及到做选择时,我们通常会回到我们所熟悉的事物。这可以解释我们的欲望和行动之间的差异,例如回到之前提供过差服务的公司或保持在不满意的关系中。)”可知,从第二段可以了解到,我们的欲望和行动之间可能存在不一致。故选D项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“While this might seem effective in the short term, it could lead to merely exchanging one set of problems for another, with the added risk of feeling overwhelmed and experiencing burnout. (虽然这在短期内看起来可能有效,但它可能导致只是用一套问题替换另一套问题,增加了感到不知所措和经历倦怠的风险。)”可知,作者对某些文献中提出的解决方案持保留态度。故选D项。
【15题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段“What if, instead, we could harness the familiarity principle to our advantage? Familiarity is not just a constraint but also a foundation for creativity and a conduit for growth. We can gradually extend our comfort zone. From this perspective, we will begin to make choices from an increasingly rich reservoir of valuable alternatives.
Does alien life exist? It’s a question many people have tried to answer. ___16___ AI is a type of program that allows a computer to learn from experience and perform tasks that usually require human intelligence. AI works by taking in lots of data, then making predictions based on it.
The research team used their AI method to analyze different materials and determine whether they were biotic (生物性的) or abiotic. ___17___
To train the AI program, the researchers gave it data on 134 biotic and abiotic materials. The program then used that knowledge to predict whether things like human hair, bones, teeth, eaves, coal, and chemicals were alive or not. ___18___
___19___ “We may be able to find a life-form from another planet.” said Robert Hazen of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC. “If we do find signs of life elsewhere, we can tell if life on Earth and other planets derived from a common or different origin.” For now, though, the team is focused on ancient rock samples from Earth to learn more about life on our own planet and where it originated. For example, the tool could be used to settle a disagreement among scientists about 3. 5-billion-year-old rocks from Western Australia. ___20___ However, others think the rocks just have unusual patterns.
The AI could also be used to examine samples from Mars collected by the Perseverance over. NASA put this wheeled robot on the red planet to search for evidence that Mars has the right conditions to support life. Perseverance is gathering rock samples that will be brought to Earth in 2033.
A. People’s answers are various.
B. Some experts believe AI can’t tell their origin.
C. The researchers said the AI was 90% accurate.
D. The scientists also think the AI tool could detect alien life-forms.
E. Some experts believe the rocks contain Earth’s oldest fossil samples.
F. Now scientists have identified a new method for finding alien life using AI.
G. The AI also could tell whether a biotic sample was currently living or a fossil.
F 17. G 18. C 19. D 20. E

根据前文“Does alien life exist? It’s a question many people have tried to answer.(外星生命存在吗?这是一个很多人都试图回答的问题)”以及后文“AI is a type of program that allows a computer to learn from experience and perform tasks that usually require human intelligence.(人工智能是一种允许计算机从经验中学习并执行通常需要人类智能的任务的程序)”可知,前文讲述外星生命,后文讲述人工智能,所以空处应是提及人工智能和外星生命有关,所以F项“Now scientists have identified a new method for finding alien life using AI.(现在,科学家们发现了一种利用人工智能寻找外星生命的新方法)”符合文意,承接上文,引出下文。故选F项。
根据前文“The research team used their AI method to analyze different materials and determine whether they were biotic (生物性的) or abiotic.(研究小组利用人工智能方法分析了不同的材料,并确定了它们是生物还是非生物)”可知,本段主要讲述人工智能在分析材料的运用,所以G项“The AI also could tell whether a biotic sample was currently living or a fossil.(人工智能还可以判断生物样本目前是活的还是化石)”承接上文,符合本段主题。故选G项。
设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“To train the AI program, the researchers gave it data on 134 biotic and abiotic materials. The program then used that knowledge to predict whether things like human hair, bones, teeth, eaves, coal, and chemicals were alive or not.(为了训练人工智能程序,研究人员给了它134种生物和非生物材料的数据。然后,该程序利用这些知识来预测人类的头发、骨骼、牙齿、屋檐、煤炭和化学品等是否有生命)”可知,本段讲述研究人员如何训练人工智能,所以C项“The researchers said the AI was 90% accurate.(研究人员表示,人工智能的准确率为90%)”说明训练的结果,符合本段主题。故选C项。
【19题详解】
位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文““We may be able to find a life-form from another planet.” said Robert Hazen of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC.(“我们也许能在另一个星球上找到一种生命形式。”华盛顿卡内基科学研究所的Robert Hazen说)”可知,本段讲述人工智能能帮助探测生命形式,所以D项“The scientists also think the AI tool could detect alien life-forms.(科学家们还认为,这种人工智能工具可以探测到外星生命形式)”介绍科学家的观点,引出下文,符合本段主题,为本段中心句。故选D项。
【20题详解】
根据前文“For example, the tool could be used to settle a disagreement among scientists about 3. 5-billion-year-old rocks from Western Australia.(例如,这个工具可以用来解决科学家们对来自西澳大利亚的35亿年前的岩石的分歧)”以及后文“However, others think the rocks just have unusual patterns.(然而,其他人认为这些岩石只是有不寻常的图案)”可知,此处在举例西澳大利亚的35亿年前的岩石进行说明,所以E项“Some experts believe the rocks contain Earth’s oldest fossil samples.(一些专家认为这些岩石含有地球上最古老的化石样本)”讲述岩石的研究,承上启下,符合此处主题。故选E项。

Sometimes I must put my work above their needs. My mom tried to be my “everything” parent while I am what is called the good-enough mother at my best. We may differ in our methods and tools, but the essence of motherhood remains constant.
4. How does the author show her mom’s quality in the first paragraph?
A. By quoting a remark. B. By giving examples.
C. By making a comparison. D. By analyzing the cause.
5. Which words can best describe the author’s mother?
A. Optimistic and persevering. B. Hardworking and demanding.
C. Devoted and selfless. D. Cheerful and reliable.
6. What does the underlined phrase “good-enough mother” probably refer to in the last paragraph?
A. A mother who pursues perfection in childcare.
B. A mother who devotes herself wholly to her work.
C. A mother who places her kids’ needs above all else.
D. A mother who tries to balance her parenting with her career.
7. What can be the most suitable title for the text?
A. The Art of Being a Mother
B. Lessons of Love and Strength
C. Motherhood: The Greatest Adventure
D. Motherhood: A Journey of Sacrifice and Strength

It may be tempting to view the familiarity principle as an adversary, something to be overcome as it might seem to impede our progress toward realizing our aspirations.

D. There can be an inconsistency between desires and actions
14. What is the author's attitude towards the solution in some arises?
A. Disapproving. B. Tolerant. C. Objective. D. Reserved.
15. How should we perceive familiarity principle according to the passage?

B To give top priority to it.
