We love our pets. In fact, for most people they are more than mere pets and become more like family members. It is likely then that their owners, at some point, are going to want photographs of their furry friends. 1 Animals can be unpredictable, lazy, aggressive (好斗的) and excitable. If you’re thinking of trying pet photography, here are a few pointers to get you started.
2 Where does it nod off if the sun is out? What is its favourite toy? Take time to chat with the owner and observe your subject to gain some insight. It’s also worth spending a little time getting to know the animal yourself. Cats, dogs, horses, they all have personality, and you need to ensure they are comfortable being around you, and you around them.
Think about getting close to your subject. If the pet is comfortable with you, and if it isn’t too nervous, fill the frame with the pet’s face. 3 Just like humans, this is a natural point of focus, although focusing on the nose or mouth of a dog or cat can also make for an interesting image in its own right.
See the world from pets’ perspective. If you photograph a pet while you’re standing up, all you’re going to see is the top of their head and their backs, not what you want for a portrait (肖像). 4 Try pre-focusing your camera and just holding it at ground level so you can look up at the pet. It’s worth a try just for a new angle on things.
Bring a flash with the owner’s permission. While greeting or playing with a new pet, fire a couple of test flashes away from them to see their reaction. In daylight particularly, they never seem to mind the flash at all. 5
A.Get down to their eye level.
B.Get the eyes nice and sharp.
C.Your pet looks slightly away from camera.
D.Find out about your subject’s personality and habits.
E.A successful photograph doesn’t focus on the background.
F.However, pet photography presents its own special problems.
G.If they do mind, then stick with natural light and use a white reflector.
When choosing to add a pet to the family, you may spend more time focusing on the joy and happiness you expect your new pet will bring. 1 Though there is no true definition of a responsible pet parent, these are a few widely accepted tips to help you create a happy, healthy life for your furry friends
Food and shelter
2 Your pets will need continuous access to clean water, healthy and nutritious food, and shelter from the elements. Cats and dogs will live healthier, happier, more rewarding lives when they are treated as full members of the family, living side-by-side with you in your homes.
Healthcare
Regular preventive care is key to helping your pet live a long and healthy life. It’s best to establish a relationship with a veterinarian (兽医) to help keep you on track with regular check-ups and vaccinations (接种疫苗). 3 When the time has come, your veterinarian can help you keep your pet comfortable, pain-free, and loved, and guide you in making decisions on end-of-life care.
Training and socialization
Behavioral issues are the number one reason why animals are abandoned to shelters, so training and socializing your pets helps make sharing your homes with them much easier. For example, a dog who has been trained in basic obedience (服从) knows what behaviors are acceptable and what is expected of him. 9
Love
This may be the most important responsibility of all. 4 They are companions who depend on you for their care. They are in tune with you and live for your happiness. Responsible pet parents work hard to do the same for them.
A.Your pets are not belongings you own.
B.Your pets need to stay in shape just like you do.
C.Animal overpopulation is a real issue all over the world.
D.Providing your pet with the basic necessities of life should go without saying.
E.While that’s true, they also come with a set of duties that everyone should consider.
F.An established relationship with a veterinarian can also be helpful as your pet ages
G.This can help him be more cooperative, comfortable, and confident in the home environment.
Tips for Floodwater Safety
Floodwater can be a breeding ground for mosquitoes (蚊子) which carry diseases. 1 You should avoid floodwater whenever possible. Here are practical safety tips:
Avoid flooded areas.
Do not drive, walk or swim through floodwaters. 2 It can be difficult to judge the depth of the water, and unknown dangers may be hidden by it.
Clean and disinfect (消毒) items that have touched floodwater.
Taking a dual approach to cleaning up after a flood is crucial. Cleaners remove dirt and grime, and disinfectants stop the growth of bacteria carried in floodwater. 3 If you are cleaning areas that have mold growing, it’s also recommended to wear a N95 mask.
Make sure the food you eat are clean.
Don’t eat food that may have come into contact with floodwater. Even if the food is packaged, it could have been exposed to bacteria from the floodwater.
4
Polluted water can contain bacteria and cause serious infections. Follow water safety advisories to boil water before drinking or use bottled water. If needed, bring water to a rolling boil for one full minute to kill waterborne bacteria.
Never expose an open wound to floodwater.
During flood cleanup, there’s a risk of developing cuts, open wounds or blisters, which could increase the risk of infection. 5 Apply an antibiotic ointment (药膏) and cover it with a waterproof bandage.
Wash your hands often and thoroughly.
If you’ve come into contact with floodwater or objects that have touched floodwater, it’s vital to clean your hands with soap and water or alcoholbased hand sanitizer (消毒剂).
A.Make sure drinking water is safe.
B.Clean wounds with soap and clean water.
C.Don’t allow children to play in or near floodwaters.
D.Watch for symptoms like stomach upset and fever.
E.Wear proper safety equipment like gloves and eye protection while cleaning.
F.It also may contain harmful substances from agricultural runoff.
G.Prepare an emergency kit stocked with water, food, and flashlights.
An earthquake can strike without warning. But many injuries and deaths from this kind of natural disasters can be prevented if people follow these safety tips.
If you’re inside a building, stay there! One of the most dangerous things to do in an earthquake is to try to leave a building. 1 Drop to the ground. Get under an object that is not easily damaged. Hold on to it until the shaking stops. You can also get to a corner formed by two walls with your arms over your hand. If you’re in bed when the quake hits, stay there and protect your head with a pillow.
2 Don’t take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop as quickly as possible and stay away from overpasses, buildings, bridges or anything else that might fall or collapse over you. 3
If you are trapped in ruins, cover your mouth with a handkerchief or a piece of clothing. Use your cell phone to call for help if possible. Don’t shout. 4 Tap on a pipe or the wall so rescuers can find you.
Be prepared for aftershocks (余震). 5 However, sometimes they even happen months later. Therefore, if you are not in a safe position after the first shock, you should move quickly but carefully to a safer place.
A.Don’t move about or kick up dust.
B.If you’re outside, go to an open space.
C.Shouting can cause you to breathe in dust.
D.Don’t park your car under a tree or any tall object.
E.Take a good hold of your cell phone in the building.
F.They can happen in the first hours after the earthquake.
G.Most injuries happen when people inside buildings try to go out.
Internet addiction, also known as Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) , is an impulse control illness. 1 . So how can we overcome Internet addiction or social media addiction?
Turn off your notifications (通知)
Perhaps one of the biggest disturbances (干扰) is getting notifications through email and instant messenger. Most of these notifications don’t have to be dealt with right away. So turn off your notifications if this is what makes you click through sites and waste time replying and staring at your screen, especially if you’re driving. 2 .
Delete (删除) those old accounts
For some of us, deleting our old accounts can be easier said than done. But having accounts that haven’t been checked for years should result in them being closed. 3 . So if you have accounts that are untouched for years, remove them before you get back into the social media world.
4
One way is to set specific hours each day on the Internet and track them. You can also set a weekly limit and adjust it if needed. The purpose of this practice is to gradually cut down the time spent online. If there are days you spend more time online, make a note of it. For those days, set one goal for them. Like the bad habits, don’t expect perfection to occur during the first couple of months.
Stay connected with reality
5 . With that being said, the best cure to solving this problem is to do something that involves human connection offline. Get out of your room and hang out with friends. Using social media to keep in touch with old friends and family is fine — but it shouldn’t be used to replace real-life relationships.
A.Schedule screen time.
B.Try general use of your phone.
C.This is one of the leading causes of accidents.
D.It has also created new kinds of stress for us, though.
E.The same goes for social networks that haven’t been used for some time.
F.It can take one away from responsibilities, loved ones and face-to-face interaction.
G.One of the reasons why people interact so much online is that they don’t interact in real life.
Personal letters, especially recommendation letters, hold great significance in various aspects. However, when it comes to using AI to write them, there are some crucial points to consider.
Get personal. 1 For example, they often fail to vividly describe the candidate’s achievements, character, strengths and potential. This can have a negative impact on the candidate’s application.
2 A genuine assessment is more than just listing achievements. It involves looking into how the candidate dealt with challenges and grew in their role, which can predict their future success. The human touch in a genuine recommendation is what makes a letter truly persuasive, and this is something AI cannot reproduce.
On one hand, we can make use of AI. 3 It can assist in grammar improvement and transforming our thoughts into a well-written passage. But we should be careful. The core of a recommendation letter is the unique insights that only a human can offer. If both the request and reply of the letter are overly dependent on AI, meaningful conversations might turn into simple copying and pasting.
However, if a candidate receives a letter that is too AI-heavy, they have several options to deal with the situation. The candidate can have an open and honest conversation with the referee (推荐人), politely express concerns about the overly AI-generated nature of the letter and ask if the referee could add more personal stories, in-depth evaluations, or unique opinions based on their real-life experiences with the candidate. 4
In conclusion, both candidates and referees need to be aware that a recommendation letter is like a bridge connecting a candidate’s past and future career prospects. 5
A.Value personal relationships.
B.Provide a genuine assessment.
C.AI has become very popular in writing.
D.AI can play a certain role in the writing process.
E.It should be constructed with care and reliability.
F.He can also contact the hiring committee to clarify the limitations.
G.AI-generated letters lack the emotional elements a personal letter has.
New academicians take a group photo after the certificate (证书) awarding ceremony at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. 1 They aimed to make greater contributions to the development of the nation’s scientific research by encouraging the young generation and promoting the role of female scientists.
Academician Huang Sanwen from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) made three commitments to himself — to contribute his energies to scientific research, to apply his achievements to the fields, and to provide more opportunities for young people. “ 2 By allowing outstanding young people to have sufficient opportunities, we can foster a diverse scientific community with heated debates,” he said.
Academician Jian Zhimin advised that persistence should be the most valuable spirit on the path of scientific research. “ 3 This determination and perseverance (毅力) are essential in scientific research,” he said.
Out of the 59 newly elected academicians, 5 of them are female scientists. Academician Jin Kuijuan mentioned that women have unique perspectives, and that respecting the role of women is of crucial significance. 4

G.To achieve success in the field of science, the most important thing is to persist with original intention.
Huang Xuhua’s legacy as China’s nuclear submarine pioneer embodies the triumph of intellect over adversity. His journey began in 1926, Guangdong, where a childhood enthusiasm for machinery saw him disassembling complex devices and accurately reassembling them. 1 This amazing talent secured his place in Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s naval architecture program, shaping his destiny.
When tasked in 1958 with developing China’s first nuclear submarine, Huang faced great obstacles: zero foreign technical support and scarce resources. 2 Astonishingly, his team verified hull curvature (船体曲率) precision using chicken bones as hydrodynamic models. Such ingenuity made up for the lack of supercomputers.
The project’s secrecy demanded extraordinary sacrifice. For three decades, Huang’s family believed he worked at an ordinary factory. 3 His mother only discovered his true mission in 1987 through a magazine article, tearfully embracing her son who had prioritized national duty over family obligations.
4 Contrary to global practice where designers observe from land, he insisted on boarding the submarine. This 300-meter successful dive cleared up technological skepticism and established China’s naval strength.
In his 90s, Huang advocated integrating traditional craftsmanship with AI-driven simulations. 5 His life’s philosophy — “scientific rigor (严谨) and patriotic devotion are inseparable” — perfectly demonstrated how individual devotion intertwined with national revival.
A.He reinstalled a wall clock successfully after taking it down.
B.Huang redefined the leadership during the 1988 deep-dive test.
C.His sisters thought he performed routine maintenance tasks daily.
D.Colleagues remember equations covering his office walls for years.
E.Critics argued traditional methods couldn’t achieve millimeter precision.
F.Historical records showed 90% of technical solutions required original innovation.
G.He instructed youths to balance technological advancement with ethical responsibility.
Coffee and tea are two of the most popular drinks in the world. 1 . Here are reasons why you should think about switching from coffee to tea.
Lower caffeine, fewer side effects
Tea has less caffeine than coffee. 2 . A cup of tea usually has 20 to 60 milligrams of caffeine, while coffee has 80 to 100 milligrams. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, tea is a better choice. Plus, herbal teas like chamomile have no caffeine and can help you relax.
A powerhouse of antioxidants(抗氧化剂)
Tea is packed with antioxidants. 3 . They can help protect your body from diseases like heart problems and cancer. Green tea has a lot of a special antioxidant called EGCG, which is great for your cells and can even help you age more slowly. Black tea has other good chemicals that help keep your heart healthy.
4
Tea has something special called L-theanine. This is an amino acid(氨基酸)that can make you feel calm and focused. It’s different from coffee because it doesn’t make you feel nervous. L-theanine can help reduce anxiety and make you feel good. It’s also good for your brain. It can help you think better, feel less stressed, and even sleep better.
Good for your body
Drinking tea can be a great way to get healthy chemicals into your body. Just like eating fruits and vegetables, drinking tea can give you the good stuff your body needs. 5
Switching from coffee to tea can be a simple way to improve your health and feel better every day. Give tea a try and see how it makes you feel.

B.Good for your physical health
C.Both are good for you, but tea might be even better
D.These are special plant chemicals that are good for your health
E.Whichever you like better, keep in mind that too much will be harmful
F.This means it won’t make you too excited or keep you awake at night
G.If you don’t like eating vegetables, tea can be a good way to get those healthy chemicals
Holidays are the perfect time to enjoy unique and traditional foods that bring families together, create lasting memories, and celebrate cultural heritage. From the spicy flavours of Christmas to the sweet treats of Diwali, food plays a central role in holiday festivities around the world.
1 . It is an important part of holiday celebrations. It symbolizes love, sharing, and togetherness. During holidays, families often gather to prepare special dishes that have been passed down through generations. These foods carry history and tradition, becoming a necessary part of the celebration. The act of cooking and sharing meals can strengthen bonds (纽带) among family members and friends, developing a sense of community and belonging. 2 , which provide warmth and familiarity. As we celebrate special occasions, these foods remind us of our heritage and create a sense of nostalgia (怀旧).
Festive foods vary widely around the globe, reflecting local customs and cultural heritage. 3 . And in Italy, a rich feast of pasta, panettone, and various meats marks Christmas celebrations. This is because listening to music releases a chemical that activities your brain’s reward and pleasure centers.
It can increase your motivation
In one study, researchers wanted to test the effect of music on the motivation levels of cyclists on bikes. To do this, they changed the speed of the music without the participants’ knowledge. When they increased the speed, the cyclists’ performance increased in terms of distance, speed, and power. 5 . This suggested that the higher-speed music increased their motivation.
A.When you listen to upbeat music

Preparation for a music festival doesn’t have to take a lot of time. 1 It’s actually as easy as having a rough plan for transportation schedule. And, of course, you always need to check over the festival rules to make sure you’re planning for any restrictions you may encounter. Here are my tips for music festivals:
Bring sun protection. It was hot and outside. I usually forget to put on sunscreen, but this time I did. 2 In general, getting burned will make your experience a lot more painful, so it’s a good idea to set a reminder for yourself to bring sun protection to a music festival.
3 It was cheap, and stress-free. I highly recommend getting to your music festival by public transit if it’s available. Sometimes, cars and ride-shares just aren’t worth the headache or price. But remember to always check the transit schedule so you don’t have to wait too long!
Have a designated (指定的) meeting spot and time. I think that this is a music festival must. If you’re meeting friends at the venue, have a dedicated place and time for when you’re meeting up. 4
Read the rules. 5 But right before I left, I checked the festival rules and realized that my type of camera wasn’t allowed in! Generally, if there’s anything you don’t want to get confiscated (没收) at the festival entrance, check the rules to make sure it’s allowed in before you bring it.
A.Wear strong shoes.
B.Use public transportation.
C.Bring a portable phone charger.
D.I also brought sunglasses and a hat to stay cool.
E.And it certainly shouldn’t add extra stress to your life.
F.I like using my camera for photos and was excited to record the festival.
G.If you get separated, have a place that you know you can go to find each other.
Travelling with friends can be an amazing experience where you could make lifelong memories or it could ruin your friendship. 1 Here are some rules you should follow to make sure your next trip with friends goes as smoothly as possible. 2 Sure, you and your friends probably have some similar interests, but that’s not always the case. In an effort to keep everyone happy, go over travel plans and expectations ahead of time. Have each person categorize activities or sights into “must-see”, “want to see” and “would go if we have time”. Plan accordingly and make sure everyone can see some of their top attractions.
Communicate and respect each other. Everyone has personal preferences when travelling — from getting the bed closest to the bathroom or sitting in the airplane’s window seat. But sometimes things don’t go as you like. In this case, share your requirements directly with your travel companions. 3 At the same time, listen to their concerns and be respectful of them.
Don’t disappear. When travelling with a group — or even just one other person — you may want some alone time. 4 It’s especially true of travelling in foreign countries or unfamiliar places.
Get off your phone. Of course, your friends will understand if you need to take a call from a family member, or in the event of a work emergency. 5 Don’t respond to less important work contact or send messages frequently. After all, the appeal of this type of trip is to spend time with friends. Just enjoy it!
A.Give each other some space.
B.Include at least one activity for everyone.
C.But other than that, try to stay off your phone.
D.And remember that consideration and respect go a long way.
E.That’s completely fine, but make sure your friends know where you are.
F.Have a conversation when problems arise, for communication is the key.
G.So it’s important to make sure you and your friend(s) are on the same page.
The Beauty of Art: An Introduction to Appreciation
Art is all around us, adding color and depth to our lives. Whether it’s a painting on a gallery wall, a sculpture in a park, or a piece of street art, art has the power to inspire, challenge, and move us. If you’re new to the world of art appreciation, don’t worry! Here are some simple steps to help you get started.
Open Your Mind
The first step in appreciating art is to approach it with an open mind. 1 Don’t let preconceived notions or lack of knowledge hold you back. Remember, there are no right or wrong answers when it comes to your personal response to art. Each person sees and experiences art in their own unique way. So, be willing to explore different styles, periods, and forms of art, even if they seem unfamiliar at first.
Look Beyond the Surface
When you first look at a piece of art, take a moment to simply observe it. Notice the colors, shapes, and lines. 2 But don’t stop there. Try to look deeper and consider what the artist might have been trying to communicate. Is there a story being told? A feeling being expressed? For example, in a landscape painting, the artist might use bright colors to convey a sense of joy and peace, or dark, muted tones to create a mood of mystery or sadness.
Learn Some Basics
While you don’t need to be an art historian to appreciate art, learning a few basic concepts can enhance your understanding. 3 For instance, understanding the principles of composition, like balance and symmetry, can help you see how an artist arranges elements in a work to create a visually appealing image. Knowing about different art movements, such as Impressionism or Cubism, can also give you more context for the art you’re viewing.
4 One of the best ways to experience art is to visit galleries, museums, and art festivals. These are places where art comes alive. In these places, you can see a wide range of artworks up close, from ancient masterpieces to contemporary installations. You can also often attend guided tours or talks, where experts can share their insights and knowledge. Even if you can’t visit a physical art space, many museums now offer virtual tours online, allowing you to explore their collections from the comfort of your own home.
Discuss with Others
Sharing your thoughts and experiences of art with others can be a rewarding way to deepen your appreciation. 5 You might be surprised at the different perspectives and interpretations that others offer. Join an art club, take an art class, or simply have a conversation with a friend about a piece of art you both saw. Through these discussions, you can learn new things and gain a fresh understanding of the art you love.
A.Visit Art Spaces
B.Notice how they work together to create the overall image.
C.Art appreciation is a personal journey for everyone.
D.Different people may notice different things in the same artwork.
E.Don’t judge a piece of art before you really look at it.
F.It can help you see artworks in a new and more informed way.
G.However, art appreciation is not as difficult as it may seem at first.
Literature is the study of human communication. It deals with great writers, from Shakespeare to Cervantes, and deals with texts. Also, literature offers access to vibrant forms of expression and asks us to embrace new ways of thinking about the world. It shows us how to read critically, even asking why we read and write at all. 1
For a student of Literature, all forms of communication are considered texts and can become the focus of critical inquiry. Rap lyrics, the language of advertisements, our favorite films, diaries, even our constantly updated statuses on social media platforms, all are products of the urge to share ideas and experiences. 2 So to study literature is to open a gateway to understanding complex values and preoccupations of individuals, small communities and even whole societies.
3 And at the turn of the 19th century, writers themselves began to experiment with new ways of looking at the written word. Modern literary criticism was born as Romantics, such as William Wordsworth’s thought to define poetry.
A hundred years later, new schools of thought emerged that sought to understand the historical and cultural backgrounds from which literature emerged. Marxist literary critics such as Terry Eagleton argued that literature is not independent of its time and culture, but rather a product of it. 4 From the 1960s, fresh generations of critics were turning their attention away from the creators of texts. These post structuralists looked beyond authorial intent to focus on interpretation.
Literary criticism challenges the ways we think about the world and how it should be ordered. 5
A.It helps us understand who we are and how we are.
B.Because literature is complex, though, we need to decode it.
C.Above all, it explores how we communicate ideas and why.
D.And each offers its own insights into the ways that we, as humans, see the world.
E.Wordsworth explored the relationship between the poetry and the poet rather than the reader.
F.It helps us imagine what it is like to be someone else and to live a better, or simply different life
G.Other thinkers focused on identity, looking at the ways in which an author’s sense of self is produced by society’s dominant ideologies (意识形态).
The Enduring Power of Literature
In an age dominated by digital media, the question of literature’s relevance has never been more pressing. 1 As a novelist and literary critic, I often turn to the insights of great writers who have delved into this question before me.
Toni Morrison once said, “We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” For Morrison, literature was not merely a form of entertainment. 2 Through language, we preserve our experiences, our emotions, and our very essence.
James Baldwin, in his essay “The Creative Process”, argued that literature serves as a mirror and a map. He wrote, “ 3 ” Baldwin believed that literature had the power to confront uncomfortable truths and inspire social change. His works demonstrate how stories can simultaneously reflect reality and chart moral progress. The novel Go Tell It on the Mountain, for instance, not only exposed racial injustice in 1950s America but also envisioned paths toward empathy and reconciliation (和解).
Milan Kundera, in “The Art of the Novel”, emphasized literature’s ability to explore the complexity of human existence. “The novel’s wisdom,” he claimed, “is different from the wisdom of philosophy. 4 ” For Kundera, literature’s value lies in its capacity to embrace life's contradictions without seeking simplistic resolutions.
As I reflect on these perspectives, I am reminded of literature’s unique role in our lives. 5 By revealing unseen possibilities, it acts as both a time capsule of collective memory and a blueprint for unwritten futures. In a world increasingly driven by binary (二进制) thinking, literature offers a space for subtle difference, empathy, and profound understanding.
A.It is an act of resistance against being forgotten.
B.Literature's ability to entertain is its most important function.
C.Literature provides clear answers to life's most difficult questions.
D.Some even argue that literature has lost its place in modern society.
E.It is not just a reflection of who we are but also a vision of who we might become.
F.It is the wisdom of uncertainty, of ambiguity and of questioning rather than answering.
G.It was through literature that we could see ourselves clearly and chart a course for our future.

【答案】1.E 2.D 3.F 4.G 5.A
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了如何成为负责任的宠物主人,包括提供基本生活需求、定期医疗保健、训练社交以及给予爱,以确保宠物健康快乐地生活。
1.上文“When choosing to add a pet to the family, you may spend more time focusing on the joy and happiness you expect your new pet will bring.(当选择给家里增添一只宠物时,你可能会花更多时间关注你期望新宠物会带来的快乐和幸福)”说明当选择养宠物时,人们往往会关注宠物带来的快乐。
空后“Your pets will need continuous access to clean water, healthy and nutritious food, and shelter from the elements.(你的宠物需要持续获得清洁的水、健康营养的食物和躲避风雨的住所)” 具体说明宠物对生活必需品的需求。空处呼应主旨句,并引出下文中的内容。所以D项“给你的宠物提供生活的基本必需品是理所当然的。”符合语境。该选项中的“basic necessities of life”与后文的“clean water, healthy food, shelter”相对应,起到总领该部分内容的作用。故选D。
3.上文“Regular preventive care is key to helping your pet live a long and healthy life. It’s best to establish a relationship with a veterinarian (兽医) to help keep you on track with regular check-ups and vaccinations (接种疫苗).(定期的预防性护理是帮助你的宠物长寿和健康生活的关键。最好与兽医建立关系,帮助你定期进行检查和接种疫苗)”说明与兽医建立关系对宠物健康的重要性。空处和前文为顺接关系,进一步说明随着宠物年龄增长,与兽医建立关系的好处。所以F项“随着宠物年龄的增长,与兽医建立关系也会有所帮助。”符合语境。该选项中的“An established relationship with a veterinarian”与上文提到的“establish a relationship with a veterinarian”相呼应,故选F。
4.上文“Behavioral issues are the number one reason why animals are abandoned to shelters, so training and socializing your pets helps make sharing your homes with them much easier. For example, a dog who has been trained in basic obedience (服从) knows what behaviors are acceptable and what is expected of him.(行为问题是动物被遗弃到收容所的首要原因,所以训练和社交你的宠物有助于更容易地与它们共享家园。例如,一只接受过基本服从训练的狗知道什么行为是可以接受的,以及人们对它的期望)”说明训练和社交宠物的重要性,并以接受过基本服从训练的狗为例。空处和前文为顺接关系,进一步说明训练对狗在家环境中的好处。所以G项“这可以帮助他在家庭环境中更加合作、舒适和自信。”符合语境。该选项中的This指代上文提到的“a dog who has been trained in basic obedience”。故选G。
5.上文“Love(爱)”为标题,空后“They are companions who depend on you for their care. They are in tune with you and live for your happiness.(他们是依靠你照顾的伙伴。他们与你合拍,为你的幸福而活)” 强调宠物是依赖主人的伙伴,而非物品。空处承上启下,说明宠物不是你的所属物,而是需要你照顾的伴侣。所以A项“你的宠物不是你的所属物。”符合语境。该选项中的“not belongings”与后文的“companions who depend on you”形成对比,突出“爱”意味着将宠物视为伙伴而非所有物,与前后文形成顺接关系。故选A。
Tips for Floodwater Safety

【答案】1.F 2.C 3.E 4.A 5.G
【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了网瘾,以及如何克服网瘾的几点建议和方法。
1.前文“Internet addiction, also known as Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) , is an impulse control illness.( 网络成瘾,也被称为网络成瘾障碍(IAD),是一种冲动控制疾病)”提到网络成瘾是一种冲动控制疾病,下文“So how can we overcome Internet addiction or social media addiction?( 那么我们如何克服网络成瘾或社交媒体成瘾呢?)”
2.根据前文“So turn off your notifications if this is what makes you click through sites and waste time replying and staring at your screen, especially if you're driving.( 所以,如果这让你点击网站,浪费时间回复和盯着屏幕看,尤其是在开车的时候,就关掉通知吧)”提到开车时收到通知会让人浪费时间盯着屏幕,C选项“This is one of the leading causes of accidents.(这是导致事故的主要原因之一)”与前文开车时的情况相呼应,说明开车时看通知的危害。故选C项。
3.根据前文“But having accounts that haven't been checked for years should result in them being closed.( 但是那些多年未被检查的账户应该会被关闭)”说多年未查看的账户应该关闭,E 选项“The same goes for social networks that haven't been used for some time.( 同样的道理也适用于那些已经有一段时间没人使用的社交网络)”进一步说明不仅是账户,社交网络长时间不用也应处理,与前文逻辑一致。故选E项。
4.该空是段落小标题,根据后文“One way is to set specific hours each day on the Internet and track them. You can also set a weekly limit and adjust it if needed. The purpose of this practice is to gradually cut down the time spent online. If there are days you spend more time online, make a note of it. For those days, set one goal for them. Like the bad habits, don’t expect perfection to occur during the first couple of months.( 一种方法是每天设定特定的上网时间并跟踪它们。你也可以设定每周的限制,并在需要时进行调整。这样做的目的是为了逐渐减少上网的时间。如果你在网上花了更多的时间,把它记下来。在那些日子里,为它们设定一个目标。就像坏习惯一样,不要指望在最初的几个月里就能达到完美)”可知,本段主要讲的是安排上网时间,A 选项“Schedule screen time(安排屏幕时间)”符合段落主旨,为总结该段内容。故选A项。

【答案】1.G 2.B 3.D 4.F 5.E

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 4.G 5.A
