When I was 14, my family took me to a campground, where some of my friends also joined us with their families. Surrounding the campground was nothing but the Canadian wilderness.
One day, my friends and I ventured beyond the campground. After exploring for two hours, we decided to return, fearing that our parents would worry about us. I had never wandered that far along the trails (小路) before. On our way back, we encountered a fork (岔口) in the path, and we were unsure which direction led us back to the campground.
We began to argue about which path to take. After about ten minutes, we decided on the left one. Unfortunately, after an hour of walking, we encountered large puddles (水坑) and muddy pits that we didn’t remember seeing earlier. It became clear we had chosen the wrong path. We turned back, determined to reach the fork and try the other direction.
It was in the 1990s and none of us had a cellphone yet. So we couldn’t contact our parents to tell them where we were.
As we were walking, it was getting dark and we could hear strange noises around us.
“I heard there are wild bears here,” one of my friends Henry said.
“Really? You’re joking, right? I just knew there are deer here,” my friend Mark immediately said.
“No. I wasn’t joking. I read the news,” said Henry. “A woman came across a wild bear while she was camping here. But the bear didn’t attack her.”
“Thank goodness!” I said. As we were talking, we started hearing rustling (沙沙声) in the bushes. We all became frightened. But we started joking around trying to make light of the situation. But Henry suddenly said, “It must be a bear.” We immediately asked him to be quiet. And we all stopped walking in order not to make any noise.
The noises grew louder, and we all started shaking with fear. Everyone was staring into the darkness. Our eyes were fixed on the bushes. Finally, my friend Mark whispered, "Is it still there?

On Christmas Eve, a 20-month-old sheepdog named Brooklyn got into trouble on Lake Parsippany in New Jersey. Brooklyn had run away from its temporary caretaker and was trapped on the frozen lake.
The puppy’s owner, upon learning that Brooklyn was lost and trapped on the icy lake, rushed to the scene in great anxiety. His heart was gripped tightly, and his mind was filled with all kinds of terrifying images: Brooklyn falling into an ice hole, struggling in the freezing lake water, or freezing due to being exposed to the cold for a long time... He looked at the tiny figure on the lake with a face full of worry, his eyes filled with self-blame and anxiety, and he kept shouting Brooklyn’s name, hoping for a response.
The police tried to lure Brooklyn back to the shore with chicken, but the little guy wasn’t biting. At that moment, Kishan Patel, who lived by the lake and was also a dog owner, saw the situation. Seeing the police’s efforts to get Brooklyn back safely, he wondered if he could help.
Patel thought of using his drone(无人机) to scare the puppy off the ice. He said in a statement, “I know my dog is afraid of drones, so I thought I could use it to scare this dog off the ice.” However, Brooklyn wasn’t scared by the drone. Patel said that a police officer suggested tying a piece of chicken to the drone to lure the puppy. Brooklyn was indeed attracted, but when it saw the people around, it ran back to the center of the lake.
As night fell, WABC reported that Patel had located the puppy using his drone. The police then used weights to test the thickness of the ice. After ensuring it was safe, a police officer successfully brought Brooklyn back to land.

A sudden shake made Anna White awake. Rubbing her eyes, she noticed the vase on the corner table shaking. It was just going to fall from the corner, but she managed to catch it just in time. Then she realized that it must be an earthquake. She rushed downstairs to look for her parents and brother. But everyone was sleeping soundly as it was just 3 in the morning. She screamed, “MOM! DAD! CHASE!” Her heart pounded as the quake continued. She knew what was happening, but what should she do?
“CHASE ...!” she called her elder brother Chase again. Chase had got up and was on the stairs. He was very scared when he felt the stairs shaking. He was about to fall on the stairs but quickly grabbed the railing (扶手)for support. “What was that?” he asked and looked towards Anna who was sitting under a table in the dining room and he quickly joined her.
Their mother, Lisa, soon appeared in the dining room. She’d felt the shaking from her room. Realizing it was an earthquake, she quickly came under the table with them and asked Chase and Anna if they were OK. Her eyes stared nervously at the door.
“Where’s Dad?” Chase asked after a moment, his voice tense. Anna’s stomach tightened with worry. They knew their father, a doctor, was often called away for emergency cases, sometimes even at night.
Lisa hesitated, her voice trembling, “He went on an emergency call ... We just need to stay safe. Dad will be fine. Don’t worry about him.”
Tears welled in her eyes as the weight of the situation sank in. The idea of him being out there, in the middle of an earthquake, was terrifying.
Suddenly, a loud crash came from the building next door. Through the window, they saw a nearby building shaking violently, sending clouds of dust into the air.
“This is too dangerous,” Chase said, glancing around. Without another word, they grabbed each other’s hands and ran out of the building.
Paragraph 1: They managed to arrive at the street and saw a scene in chaos.

Mia suddenly stopped when she heard a loud scream. She quickly turned on the small, dusty path, worrying that her friend Lily was in trouble. But Lily was just standing in flowers up to her waist, which covered the meadow (草地) like a colorful blanket.
“Lily, you really scared me!” Mia said, her voice echoed across the meadow. “I’m sorry,” Lily replied, and still focused on taking pictures with her camera, not noticing the thick fog starting to cover the nearby mountains. “Not again!” Mia said, looking at the clouds coming closer. “We have to go now!” Lily was so busy taking photos of the beautiful scene that she hardly noticed the weather changing. Mia, now wearing a red scarf on her head, said, “We need to go back to our camp.” The two girls ran down the winding path, which was covered in heavy fog and hit by cold rain. The path was very slippery, so they had to be careful not to fall. “This is dangerous! We need to find shelter right away!” Lily yelled as loud as thunder sounded, showing the storm was getting worse. Mia saw a small cave in the cliff, partly hidden by plants. It wasn’t a big shelter, but it was better than being in the rain. “Lily, come here!” Mia called out, her voice almost lost in the strong wind. Lily, wet and shaking, walked unsteadily towards Mia’s voice. As she got closer, she saw the cave. It wasn’t perfect, but it was a safe place from the storm.
“You’re smart, Mia,” Lily said, her teeth chattering (打颤) from the cold, holding her backpack tightly. The backpack, which was strong and waterproof, was a gift from her father, an experienced hiker who always said it was important to have space for emergency supplies. On this difficult day, they realized how important his advice was.

This summer vacation has nearly come to an end, but I have hardly finished reading any useful books or updated any satisfactory writings. With an empty head and a guilty feeling, I owe this to my involuntary addition to the mobile phone.
This is not because I have more free time and rely on my MP as a time-killer. On the contrary, I am occupied by various chores and time left at my will is only pieces of hours. I give up doing serious and creative things during these fragments of hours, making excuses for myself: “I am tired so I need to do something easy and relaxing...” But, sticking my face to the MP turns out to be by no means relaxing. My vision becomes more unclear and precious time is wasted.
The prime culprit(元凶) should be WeChat: Being quick-responsive to any message sent to me is a bad habit; Being afraid of losing track of what all my “friends” are doing comes at a price; The colorful ads of “daigou” sacks(洗劫) not only my purse... The other two accomplices (共犯) that l need to put in jail at once are Taobao and Koala (though I know I can’t bear to do that!)
I have to admit that a lot of apps provide much convenience to my life, such as dictionaries, maps, music, e-books and apps for stock dealing, for taxi booking, for ticket and hotel booking, for picture processing etc. The side effect is that I am so buried in these attractive apps that I just can’t put my MP down, close my eyes for a while and think what my priority is.

Social networking dominates our life in so many ways. I am the one who is addicted to it. Sometimes I set deadlines for myself : I will start doing my homework at 8 pm and finish it in two hours. At 7:50 pm, I’m scrolling through my friends’ silly posts and photos. Before I know it, it’s 9:30 pm and I haven’t moved an inch from the sofa. I download song after song, video after video, but I’m not really paying attention. The stimulation is in chasing after the next song or video rather than truly enjoying it. Since I spend so much time socialising online, I keep delaying things that are important in my real life: homework, tasks, my good friends and so on. Especially, I miss connecting with my family members in a meaningful way. So it is with my sister.

Lily was a bright and energetic girl with a heart full of dreams. She lived in a small and comfort town where everyone knew each other. One sunny morning, Lily’s teacher announced a school talent show. The news excited Lily immediately, as she had always loved singing and dreamed of performing on stage.
Without hesitation, Lily signed up for the show. She chose her favourite song and started practising right away. Every day after school, she would go to the park and sing her heart out, imagining the big stage and the cheering audience. However, as the days passed, Lily faced a big problem. She found it difficult to reach some of the high notes in the song. No matter how hard she tried, her voice just wouldn’t cooperate.
Lily started to feel discouraged. She thought about giving up and withdrawing from the talent show. But deep inside, she knew that giving up was not an option. She remembered the words her father always told her, “When life gives you challenges, face them with courage and never give up.”
Determined to overcome the obstacle, Lily decided to ask for help. She went to her music teacher, Mrs. Brown, and explained her problem. Mrs. Brown was very kind and patient. She listened to Lily sing and then gave her some useful tips on how to control her voice and reach the high notes. She also encouraged Lily to practise regularly and believe in herself.
With Mrs. Brown’s guidance, Lily practised even harder. She spent hours every day working on those difficult notes. Sometimes she felt tired and depressed, but she always reminded herself of her dream. Finally, the day of the talent show arrived. Lily was nervous but excited. As she stepped onto the stage and saw the audience looking at her expectantly, her heart raced. But as soon as the music started, she took a deep breath and began to sing.

8.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My 12-year-old daughter is smart, even sharper than I was at her age, but she just wouldn’t pick up a chapter book for fun. School books were tough for her, and when it came to free time, she stuck to picture books and listened to “Harry Potter” audiobooks. None of these really got her into deep reading, where you stare at words on paper and let your imagination fly.
For a while, I had to face the truth: I hadn’t passed on the joy of reading to her. I tried telling her how reading makes life richer, but she shrugged (耸肩) and said, “Lots of my friends don’t like reading either. It’s no big deal.”
Things went worse when she got a smartphone last year. Suddenly, my lively child became lazy, always on her phone. I suggested other fun activities, but she just found theme “boring.” I still held out hope for reading, seeing it as a developmental escape. But the problem was that she chose the colorful, noisy world of her phone.
Then, right before we left for an 8-day holiday on a beautiful Greek island, we talked about reading again. “Novels are the best way to understand how people feel,” I told her. “I can learn more from social media,” she replied. I mentioned storytelling and history, and she said, “I can watch movies and use the internet.” I even promised to buy her any books she liked, but she smiled and said, “Mama, welcome to your dream.”
I realized I couldn’t win. She had good reasons and I couldn’t say she was wrong. Sure, reading opens up new worlds, but so does the whole internet. Still, deep down, I wished she’d experience the pure magic of reading—those special moments when an author says exactly what you’ve always felt but never knew how to express.

Every morning before work, my colleague and I have a routine. Right across from our office is a small family-owned breakfast shop run by a friendly couple. Their little shop isn’t fancy, but the food is exceptional, and it’s become our go-to spot to grab something to eat before the day gets busy.
The shop has a simple yet delicious menu: steamed buns, xiaolongbao (soup dumplings), steamed dumplings, and sometimes even a bowl of savory zhajiangmian (noodles with fried sauce). Everything is incredibly tasty, and every item we try has its special taste that keeps us coming back for more. But there’s one item we both love above all others: the beef buns.
The beef buns are like a treasure we’re always hunting. Perfectly soft, filled with juicy beef, and just the right amount of seasoning-they’re everything you could want in a breakfast bun. But the problem is, we’re not the only ones who think so. The beef buns are always in high demand, and they sell out quickly. In fact, if we manage to get one even once out of five visits, it feels like we’ve struck gold. And if there’s only one left when we order, we always face the dilemma (窘境) of who gets it.
Over time, we developed a system for sharing the precious beef bun. If there’s only one left, we take turns eating it. I’d have it this time, and she’d get it the next. Typically, as soon as we enter the shop, one of us will ask, “Do you have beef buns today?” If the answer is no, we settle for another item from the menu, though secretly hoping that one day we’ll find an unlimited supply of our favorite treat.
This morning, however, things were different. As we stepped into the shop, we noticed that the shopkeeper’s wife, who’s usually busy managing orders and cooking, had spotted us right away.

“Mom, please, please,” I begged. “Please, let me do it by myself.” I had never made cookies by myself before. But I’m nine and old enough to do many things. “Alana is going to cook? Alone?” my brother, Caleb, asked with a laugh. “That’s going to be a disaster!” Caleb uses big words to act older and smarter than me. Having a big brother can be annoying.
My parents looked at each other. My dad lowered his eyebrows. Would they let me do it? I held my breath. “OK,” Mom said, “But Alana, please take your time. Be careful.” Sometimes I think my parents have no faith in me. Sure, I’ve made a mess. I once accidentally dyed (染色) my hands purple, and it didn’t wash off for a week. But that was before I turned nine. I would know better now. My parents should realize that!
To make delicious cookies, I reviewed the recipe carefully. After that, I raced to the kitchen and got everything ready like butter, salt, eggs, flour, baking powder, a baking sheet, and an oven (烤箱). I went to work. I opened eggs and put a cold stick of butter into the bowl. Using a mixer was easy. I turned on the mixer at medium speed — and whoa, whoa. Whoa! “WHOA!” I cried. What a disaster! I had to wipe butter off my face, then off the cabinets (柜子), countertop, and floor. Butter is really oily.
“Yuck! Alana’s a mess! Alana’s a mess!” my brother taunted (奚落). “Caleb, you just get out of here. Leave me alone!” I yelled, waving a spoon. Caleb laughed and walked away. However, I determined to prove to everyone that I was grown up and in control. I put down the cookie sheet and picked up the directions. What had gone wrong? Then I saw it. I had forgotten to add two cups of flour before mixing well!

A few years ago, at a clinic, an elderly woman sat on a waiting room chair belting out (引吭高歌) the Celine Dion tune “My Heart Will Go On.” Her sweet, high-pitched voice exploded into every corner of the clinic. I had fun watching how people reacted. There was a lot of shifting in seats and a couple of stony sideways stares, but mainly they awkwardly averted (转移) their eyes and tried to pretend that there was nothing special happening.
I was at the clinic with my dad, who was getting a routine blood test, when the woman first arrived. She settled into the seat directly across from my dad. Because she was so tiny, she was forced to sit on the edge of the chair so her feet could touch the floor. The position made it seem as though she was sitting forward to engage in conversation with my dad. She smiled at him and he smiled back.
I was concerned about how my dad would react to the invasion on his space. He was 77 years old at the time and had been living with Alzheimer for several years. Alzheimer would damage a person’s patience and restraint. Since his diagnosis, privacy and personal space had definitely been his thing, and he had considered it wholly bad manner to bring undo attention to oneself. Moreover, he had started to stop making an effort to nod politely or force a smile in appropriate situations. I couldn’t help but think that this melodic woman was playing with fire.
Her singing began gently, like a quiet hum. I glanced over at Dad to see his response. His smile was gone, and he was staring right at her. She was staring back. I couldn’t read his expression initially, but it seemed like confusion.
By the time the woman got to the chorus, “Near, far, wherever you are...” it was full-tilt belting. She was motionless, with her eyes shut and her arms crossed elegantly over her chest.

The whole class burst out laughing as Mohi rushed into the classroom. He was a strange sight. His half-buttoned white shirt revealed a red-striped pyjama top (睡衣上装) underneath, and instead of white school shoes, he wore a pair of bright green sandals (凉鞋) that were twice the size of his feet. The physics teacher’s hand froze in the middle of writing a formula on the blackboard.
Mohi said in a low voice, “Sorry, teacher,” and ran hurriedly to his seat. Mr. Tan glared at the rest of the students. The laughter quickly died down. Mohi’s classmates always looked forward to Mondays. They would be entertained by Mohi’s late arrival, odd appearance, and inappropriate clothing.
Mohi lived just a street away from the school. He walked to school every day. Students passing by on the bus would yell his name together just to see him jump and stop in his tracks. When he spotted the merry bunch on the bus, he would wave with a friendly smile. Although Mohi was kind, he was too lost in his own thoughts to make friends. His classmates found him amusing but they ignored him most of the time. Only Hamed, who sat beside Mohi, tried to be his friend.
The following Monday, Mohi did not turn up at school. His classmates were a little disappointed, but they quickly forgot about him. After school, Hamed decided to walk to Mohi’s house to check on him. As he approached the gate, he could hear violin music. “Mohi must be listening to music,” he thought. The gate was not locked. Hamed let himself in. He called Mohi’s name a few times but there was no response. The music played on. Hamed looked in through a window. His eyes widened in surprise. In the middle of the living room, Mohi was playing the violin. His eyes were closed in concentration as he skillfully drew the bow over the strings. He played so perfectly that it sounded like a recording. Hamed left quietly. When Teachers’ Day came around, Hamed had a plan.

Every morning, I wake up early, drink a coffee, and head to my company in Australia. Each evening, I come back home, feeling really tired. Even though I have a good job and enough money, my life felt kind of boring.
My daughter, Lucy, noticed how I felt. One day, when my husband and I were sitting at our porch (门廊) watching the sunset, she said to me, “You’re so creative, Mom. Why don’t you do something else that makes you happy?” We used to dream about going to the coast where I could do what I love — filming our travel experience. But I was scared. I thought it was too late to change. Lucy kept believing in me, though.
One Friday night, my friend Harley called. “Hey, can you film a party this Saturday?” I’d never filmed anything before, but I decided to give it a try. I agreed. The party was super fun — full of music and laughter. I loved capturing all the excitement. When I edited the video, I spent extra time making it perfect. When Lucy saw the final version, she smiled and said, “This is amazing!” That made me feel great.
The video spread online. People loved it! They said things like, “Wow, the scene is so real!” and “Great editing!” Those comments made me think I could really do this. I started filming more in my free time. I even turned our garage into a little edit ing studio.
Months later, I uploaded a bigger project to social media. The response was also amazing! People were asking for more videos. I started taking online courses to get even better at film-making.
In the summer vacation, I suddenly realized I could make money from filming. I told Lucy, “Let’s go to the coast this summer.” She was so happy, and we traveled there soon.

I just finished the amazing four-day Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu, and drunk on nature, was feeling perfectly confident. The clean Peruvian air still refreshed my lungs and the brain fog caused by my daily phone use hadn’t returned. The bad events that came next started once I turned my phone back on. Responding to a Twitter request for Peru tips, a stranger posted: “Try mountain biking down a volcano in Arequipa! ”
Those eight words changed everything. I quickly said goodbye to my biking friend and changed my flight. As someone who loves excitement, the idea seemed too good to miss. I’ve skydived, slid down sand hills, flown with parachutes, and leaped (跳) off New Zealand’s tallest tower. I share this not to boast, but to acknowledge a pattern in my life. Normal life always made me feel dull without regular adventures to make me feel alive. Riding down a volcano sounded like something I couldn’t let pass.
I had trouble finding a tour group that would take me alone, which should have been a warning, but I finally managed to find one. I began the two-hour journey up the volcano with my guide and driver. At 4, 200 meters, the volcano towers over the city. As the car moved over rocky bumps (隆起部分), a familiar mix of fear and excitement filled me—the feeling of being truly alive.
At the top, I put on the necessities and extra clothes. At first, going down the winding rocky path was wonderful. I sang Life by Des’ree as excitement rushed through me. My guide pointed out three rough shortcuts straight down the slope(斜坡). I said no to the first three as they looked too steep(陡峭的), but finally agreed to the fourth.
Suddenly the ground was almost at a 30-degree angle. I stopped singing. Fear shot through me. I yelled loudly. “Good job, Mr. Gary! ” My guide laughed as I made it down a steep part. “Remember, don’t brake on the slope. ”

Billy, a fourth-grade student at a primary school in Florida, was bullied (欺负) for his DIY hand-drawn logo of the University of Tennessee(the UT), but this made students of the UT act in support and the UT even turned his drawing into an official T-shirt.
It all started at “College Colours Day” on August 30. On that day, the primary school students were invited to wear their favourite university’s football team’s colours. Billy, wore an orange T-shirt representing his favourite university, the UT. He took it one step further to draw his own UT logo with pen and paper and put it to his T-shirt. Billy excitedly showed his T-shirt to Laura, a fourth-grade teacher at the school. She was greatly impressed and praised him for his wonderful idea.
But after lunch, Billy came back to Laura’s office, crying. Billy was upset and hurt because some girls at the lunch table had made fun of the hand-drawn logo on his T-shirt. Laura knew sometimes kids could say really cruel words. She knew although the logo was not well-drawn and of course not the most beautiful, Billy had tried his best to use the resources he had available to him to take part in College Colours Day in his own way.
In an effort to cheer him up, Laura wrote in a post on Facebook, a popular social media website, on Wednesday that one of her students was “SO EXCITED” to show her his orange T-shirt pinned with a hand-drawn “UT” logo, but was made fun of. Laura wrote that she was planning to buy him an official UT T-shirt to make it a little extra special for Billy and ended the post by asking if any of her Facebook friends had any connections to the UT. What happened next made her shocked. Her post spread rapidly on Facebook.

In the classroom of Class 7, Grade 8, students were excited about an upcoming event. The school had organized a speech competition titled “Ways to Become Successful,” and many students were eager to showcase their public speaking skills. Among them was 13-year-old Zora, who, had already won two speech contests and was full of confidence that she could win again.
Zora volunteered to represent her class in the competition, and after a round of voting, she was chosen as the class representative. Although there were only seven days left until the big day, Zora felt a sense of ease about the competition. After all, she had been here before and knew what it took to win.
At home, Zora’s father congratulated her on her achievement, while her mother reminded her to take the competition seriously. Despite her parents’ advice, Zora was convinced that her past successes meant this would be a walk in the park. Her teacher also urged her to prepare diligently, but Zora only sought help once to revise her initial draft.
As the days went by, Zora did not put in the necessary effort to refine her speech. When the day of the competition arrived, she was hit with a sudden wave of panic. She couldn’t remember the content of her speech, and as she stepped onto the stage, her anxiety only grew. After delivering the opening lines, she froze, unable to continue. The supportive applause from the audience only added to her confusion, leaving no room for her to recall her prepared words.
Zora struggled through the rest of her speech, finishing it in a state of embarrassment and shame. As she walked off the stage, she saw the disappointment in her teacher’s eyes and felt the letdown from her classmates. It was a heavy burden to bear.

【答案】范文:
Paragraph 1:
We heard deep breath — like noises not far from us. “What is it?” We were so frightened that none of us could move, yet not a single scream escaped our lips. We then understood that screaming could put us in danger, so we quietly froze there, not daring to make a sound. Suddenly, an animal came out of the bushes, which threw us into a panic. But after we finally managed to see it clearly, we all sighed with relief. It was just a deer. We stood there looking at it. It looked towards us for a while, turned around, and walked away. We looked at one another and burst into laughter. But we knew we should go back to the campground as quickly as possible.
Paragraph 2:
With relief, we started walking again. We carefully observed the trails and finally reached the fork. And then we heard engines in the woods. We knew it must be from our parents who were coming for us. We immediately shouted aloud to catch their attention. Soon their vehicles stopped in front of us and out came our parents who looked very concerned. They asked where we had been and we told them what had happened. That experience taught my friends and me a good lesson. We learned it’s really important to be careful when we’re out in the wilderness.

【答案】
Brooklyn was finally rescued and brought ashore. It was wet all over, still shivering slightly, and its eyes showed fear and uneasiness. The puppy’s owner immediately rushed forward and scooped Brooklyn into his arms, murmuring, “Baby, it’s so good that you’re okay.” His voice choked, and his eyes glistened with tears. At this moment, the owner felt as if a huge stone had been lifted from his heart. Brooklyn, in the owner’s arms, seemed to sense the familiar scent and gradually stopped shivering, nuzzling the owner’s face with its wet nose and wagging its tail gently, as if telling its grievances.
Ensuring the puppy was out of danger, the dog’s owner turned to the police and Patel. His eyes were filled with tears of gratitude that glistened in the dim light. With a trembling voice, he said, “I don’t know how to express my thanks. Brooklyn is like my family, and when I saw it on the ice, I was terrified. You all risked your safety to save him. You are true heroes.” The owner then bent down and gently placed Brooklyn on the ground. The little dog, now much calmer, wagged its tail and walked over to the police and Patel, sniffing at their feet as if it too was showing its gratitude. The owner watched this scene with a warm smile on his face, relieved and overjoyed that his beloved pet was safe and sound, thanks to these kind-hearted strangers.

【答案】“Look in your backpack and what’s in it can help us a lot.” Mia said, sounding hopeful. Lily quickly unzipped her backpack, her cold fingers fumbling with the zipper. Inside, they found a thermal blanket, a small first-aid kit, a flashlight, and some energy bars. “Perfect!” Mia exclaimed as she wrapped the blanket around their shoulders, its silver surface reflecting the dim light of the cave. The warmth slowly seeped into their shivering bodies, easing the chill. Meanwhile, Lily turned on the flashlight, its beam cutting through the darkness and revealing the rough walls of the cave. They huddled together, sharing an energy bar, their spirits lifted by the simple comforts. Outside, the storm raged on, but inside the cave, they felt a glimmer of safety.
Thanks to the thermal blanket, the two could survive the night and wait for the storm to stop. As dawn broke, the rain lessened, and the fog began to lift. Mia peeked outside and saw the first rays of sunlight filtering through the clouds. “It’s clearing up!” she announced. Lily, now more composed, checked her camera, relieved to find it unharmed. They packed their belongings and stepped out of the cave, the fresh scent of rain-soaked earth filling the air. The meadow, though battered by the storm, still held its beauty. With renewed energy, they followed the path back to their camp, their adventure leaving them with a deeper appreciation for preparedness and friendship.

At night, I happily get onto my bed with a book in my hand, hoping to enjoy some “quality” time by myself. But before I know it, I’ve been scrolling through my phone for an hour. The moment I open the app, I’m sucked into a virtual world. I feel like I’m being controlled by my phone, like a puppet on a string. I don’t want to admit it, but I’m addicted to my phone.
Now I am looking at the desktop of my mobile phone, full of apps. I feel like I’m drowning in a sea of information. I can’t help but feel anxious, like there’s something missing in my life. I know I need to do something, but I don’t know where to start. So, I decide to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. I realize that my life is not just about my phone. There are so many other things that are more important, like my family, my friends, and my health. I decide to make a change. I start by setting limits on how much time I spend on my phone each day. I also try to focus more on real-life interactions and activities.

Even amidst the beauty of nature, we found it difficult to disconnect from the virtual world and engage with our surroundings. My sister and I often laughed about videos we found hilarious, but we hardly ever laughed over our own jokes anymore. We were in the same space yet miles apart, engrossed in our own virtual communities.
Then my father recently declared that every Sunday would be “No Screen Sunday” in our home. This new rule meant we had an entire day to ourselves without any screens, which initially seemed impossible. But as weeks passed by, we found ourselves looking forward to these Sundays. The rich and uninterrupted conversations we had, the board games we played, the meals we cooked and ate together, everything felt so real and warm. No Screen Sundays may not have completely removed our dependency on social media, but it certainly helped us value what was more important in life - spending quality time with our loved ones.

【答案】One possible version:
Lily poured her heart and soul into the song. Standing on the stage, her eyes closed, she swung gently with the music. Her voice resounded powerfully and obviously, hitting every note perfectly, especially those high notes that once troubled her. Veins slightly bulged on her neck as she reached for the climax part, and her hands took fast hold on the microphone. The audience sat out of their mind, their eyes fixed on her. When she finished, the whole auditorium erupted into thunderous applause. Lily’s face lit up, and she felt a sense of pride and achievement wash over her, a huge smile spreading across her cheeks.
After the show, Lily’s friends and teachers crowded around her. Her friends, eyes wide with admiration, said, “Lily, that was incredible! Every move was so accurate and full of emotion.” Teachers nodded in agreement, adding, “Your devotion really shone through. The countless hours of practice were evident.” Lily stood there, a shy smile on her face. Glancing around at their supportive faces, she truly understood that through her own hard work, never-giving-up spirit and the encouragement she’d received, she was capable of reaching any goal. This performance wasn’t just an event; it was a life-changing lesson she’d treasure forever.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 So, instead of talking more, I decided to offer a reward. “If you finish one novel during this trip, I’ll buy you that art set you’ve been wanting,” I proposed, pointing to the book I’d secretly packed: The Secret Garden. To my surprise, she hesitated but agreed. The Greek island, with its limited Wi-Fi, became the perfect setting. With fewer digital distractions, she reluctantly picked up the book by the pool. Gradually, the vibrant descriptions of the garden and the resilient characters drew her in. By day three, I found her reading under an olive tree, completely absorbed, her phone forgotten beside her.
By the end of the holiday, my daughter finished her book and asked for another. Her eyes sparkled as she discussed Mary’s transformation and the magic of the hidden garden. “Can I get A Wrinkle in Time next?” she asked. I smiled, overwhelmed with relief. Later, she even used her phone creatively—taking photos of scenic spots that reminded her of the story and sharing her reading journey online. Watching her connect literature to her world, I realized the true reward wasn’t just the art set; it was witnessing her discover the quiet magic of words, a joy no screen could replicate. Tears welled in my eyes—she’d finally felt what I could never fully explain.

【答案】
She gave us a big smile, which felt different from the usual polite greeting. “We’ve been expecting you,” she said warmly, gesturing toward the kitchen. Her husband emerged carrying a bamboo steamer stacked high with golden-brown buns. “We noticed how much you love these,” he explained, “so today we made extra.” My colleague gasped as the fragrant steam revealed rows of perfectly plump beef buns. The couple explained they’d adjusted their cooking schedule just to ensure their most loyal customers wouldn’t go home disappointed.
We both looked at the buns and then at each other, hardly believing our luck. For the first time, there was no need for our sharing routine. As we bit into the juicy buns simultaneously, laughter bubbled up between us. The shopkeepers joined in, their faces glowing with satisfaction. That morning, we lingered longer than usual, savoring not just the food but the warmth of this small kindness. From then on, though beef buns remained limited, we never felt deprived – knowing someone cared enough to create this moment made every bite sweeter.

With butter and salt added, two cups of flour were soon poured into the mixture before the mixer was turned on — this time, nothing went wrong. I breathed a sigh of relief. Next came a sprinkle of baking powder. I mixed everything together until it became a soft dough. Then I rolled it into small balls, which were then put on a baking sheet in the oven. Within minutes, a fantastic scent filled the kitchen — the smell of cookie success!
Paragraph 2: I brought the cookies into the dining room with pride. Hardly had I put them down when I asked my family to have a taste. Seeing the perfectly golden brown cookies, they wondered, their eyes widened. “You did it! All by yourself.” mom said, smiling as she chewed. “Great job!” Dad said, finishing his second cookie. A wave of joy and accomplishment overwhelmed me. “Terrific!” Caleb shouted, shooting me a hearty smile. I couldn’t hide my surprise at his change. The cookies, warm and fragrant, witnessed my growth.

Para 2: When her song ended, my dad looked directly at her and said, “that was beautiful.”
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Para 1: Just then Dad looked a little shocked, which made me feel there was something wrong. I wondered if the woman’s loud singing had triggered his frustration, as he usually avoided crowded places or sudden noises. However, instead of frowning or turning away, he continued to gaze at her intently, as if trying to recall something familiar. A moment passed, and then, to my surprise, a faint smile reappeared on his face. It was as though the melody had stirred a memory he couldn’t quite grasp but still found comforting.
Para 2: When her song ended, my dad looked directly at her and said, “that was beautiful.” The woman’s eyes lit up, and she clasped her hands together. “Thank you!” she exclaimed, her voice warm. I realized then that Dad’s reaction wasn’t one of irritation but of connection—a rare moment where the music had bridged the gap his Alzheimer had created. The waiting room, which had been tense moments before, seemed to soften, and I felt grateful for this unexpected harmony between two strangers who had found joy in sharing a simple, heartfelt moment.

【答案】One possible version:
It was the school’s tradition to have a concert for the teachers. Having seen Mohi’s excellent violin skills, Hamed encouraged Mohi to have a try. Mohi hesitated. However, seeing Hamed’s determined look, he decided to perform. The whole class was skeptical when Hamed recommended Mohi. But they finally agreed, considering the shortage of performers. On the day of the concert, as Mohi started to play, the entire auditorium fell into silence. The sweet and melodious sound of Mohi’s violin filled the air, fascinating all who heard it. When the last note ended, the audience burst into thunderous applause.
Mohi became a hit and had many fans at his school. His classmates no longer laughed at his funny appearance. Instead, they began admiring him for his incredible talent and devotion to music. Mohi’s hidden gift was revealed and he was accepted by his peers, who now saw him in a new light. Without doubt, Mohi was heartily grateful for Hamed’s encouragement and admiration, and they have been friends ever since. Beautiful things exist in every corner of our lives, and what we should do is look beyond the appearance and discover those gleaming qualities.

【答案】I loved the coast so much that I decided to settle nearby and start my own studio. Lucy couldn’t agree with it more. I left my previous job and worked in my home. It wasn’t easy — there were challenges like buying equipment and talking to clients — but it was worth it. Fortunately, Lucy loved her new school and even helped me with my shoots sometimes. The turning point came when I won a local film competition. I was thrilled but also nervous. The prize was a scholarship to a top film school in Sydney, which would require two years of further study.
“Should I go to the film school?” I thought. Lucy reassured me, “Don’t worry about Dad and me, Mum. This is your chance.” After much thought, I enrolled. It was tough, but I loved every minute at school. My skills grew, and I thought this could be more than just a hobby — it could be my future. After graduation, I returned home and pursued film-making as my career. Inspired by my journey, Lucy chose to study photography at university, eager to follow in my footsteps and explore her passion for visual storytelling.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
The bike then went alarmingly fast. I grew scared. I held off braking as far as possible. Seeing my guide waving wildly ahead to slow down, I braked hard and slid, dust flying everywhere. My back wheel lifted, throwing me over the handles. The bike landed on me. I felt a terrible pain in my wrist. Defeated, I asked my guide to call a covered vehicle to take me down. And I went to a clinic. My wrist was broken so badly that several months later it still isn’t fully healed.
During my wrist injury recovery, I’ve reconsidered risky activities. I now understand that short moments of excitement aren’t worth long recovery times. I’ve stopped dangerous sports like mountain biking and extreme climbing. A doctor recently has found I have attention problems, which explains my past risky choices. The thrill of “live for the moment” fades when you’re in a hospital with a huge bill. While I still enjoy safe adventures like camping, I’ve learned to value my health more than temporary thrills. This experience has changed how I see risk and responsibility. Sometimes planning for tomorrow is better than risking today.

【答案】One possible version:
By the next day, it had been liked and shared thousands of times by students of the UT. Many shared supportive comments and their personal stories. Many more offered suggestions and solutions to help. The news finally attracted the attention of the university itself. It responded by announcing that it appreciated the creativity of Billy’s hand-drawn logo and would turn it into an actual T-shirt, promising to donate all the money from its sales to an anti-bullying organization. The university also decided to give Billy a surprise by sending him a box of UT souvenirs, including T-shirts, hats, notes from school officials and a football signed by the head coach, along with items like notebooks for Billy’s classmates.
When receiving and opening the surprise box, Billy couldn’t believe his eyes. Tears welling up in his eyes, he held the things close to his chest, too moved to say anything. He quickly put on a T-shirt with the special logo and a hat and then generously distributed the gifts to his classmates, with everyone cheering and applauding. It was truly amazing to witness such a heart-warming scene. Later, the girls who had mocked him apologized and expressed admiration for his creativity and courage. In her follow-up post, Laura expressed her sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to this positive experience for Billy. Billy was also grateful for receiving widespread support and proud of inspiring and touching the lives of so many people.

Instead of getting cross, they seated themselves beside her, patiently listening as she unburdened her guilt. Zora sobbed out that she felt extremely guilty for disappointing everyone. Her parents consoled her, stating that everyone errs and it’s the way we handle failure that counts. After an extended conversation, Zora gradually composed herself and started to reflect on her errors.
The next day, Zora went to school and apologized to her class. Standing in front of the class, she appeared a bit nervous yet determined. “Dear classmates, I’m truly sorry for what happened yesterday. I failed to take the competition seriously enough, and I let our class down,” she said earnestly. To her astonishment, her classmates smiled at her and expressed their understanding. Her teacher also stepped forward and encouraged her not to be disheartened. The teacher analyzed Zora’s issues and offered her some sound advice. From that moment on, Zora learned a precious lesson. She dedicated herself more assiduously to improving her speaking skills and actively engaged in more activities, eagerly looking forward to redeeming herself.
