In China, charms of cities are hidden in their teahouses. Thanks to teahouses, people in cities have a place to express their emotions and thoughts, and getting to know a city is no longer a difficult thing.
Beijing, a small society in teahouses
A teahouse is the place where all walks of lie gather around. It is a small society, Lao She said in his famous play Teahouse. In Beijing, the most popular teahouses are story teahouses. They are places where Beijingers enjoy tea while listening to stories told by the pingshu arists. Other than stories, there are also stages for old Beijing folk art performances like Beijing Opera, xiangsheng and Drum Songs. Many guests come to the same teahouse every day at the same time.
Chengdu, a part of people’s daily lives
Every morning, teahouses in Chengdu open for their customers, and some people even wash up there and then drink tea and have breakfast. It is a special scene in Chengdu. People can spend a whole day in a teahouse, enjoying tea, a newspaper, and birds in cages, just like zaocha in Guangzhou to some extent. They can also have wonderful services such as massages (按摩) and ear cleaning. Mahjong and poker are indispensable elements there. Although it may seem kind of noisy, it reflects the culture of Chengdu. Teahouses there relax both people’s body and their mind.
Hangzhou, a place for seeking inner peace
Hangzhou’s climate and water quality are good for people and tea. Under such excellent natural conditions, high-quality tea is planted. In Hangzhou, tea-stalls (茶水摊) with seats in the open air along the West Lake are popular. Pick your favorite place with your best friends on a sunny day or peaceful night and you can enjoy the breeze from the lake or numerous stars in the sky. Of course, with a cup of tea on the table and close friends around, you can also get a peaceful state of mind.
21. You can enjoy tea while appreciating some Drum Songs in a teahouse of ________.
A. Beijing B. Chengdu C. Guangzhou D. Hangzhou
22. What do the teahouses in Chengdu and Hangzhou have in common?

C They have the same service items. D. Indoor teahouses are most popular.

My childhood was a painted picture of sunny sky and rolling green fields stretching to the horizon. It tasted of sharp berries and smelt of sour grapes. My family lived in a cabin(小木屋) in the countryside but I lived in my mother’s arms. They were so delicate but strong, her red hair falling around me like a curtain separating me from the world.
Childhood was simple. The borders of my village were the furthest my troubles went and monsters only lived in the pages of books. Every day was a waking dream of running races and muddy knees. My village was archaic, dying cabins housing dying farmers with dying traditions. There weren’t many children but me and the other boys; boys of butchers and sellers formed our own group.
They called us wild. I suppose we were. Trees and mountains formed our playgrounds and fights broke out as easily as sudden laughter. Liberated from the restrictions of society, we would bound into the woods, deeper and deeper until we found a lake which, with a wild yell, we would jump into all at once.
My most vivid memories from boyhood center around that lake. Water shone brightly and the sounds of our screams broke into the outcry from birds. The shock of cold water against sweating skin would wake every nerve in my body and my bare feet would hit the sinking muddy bottom. As we submerged(淹没), time would suspend, movements slowing as bubbles rose around us.
I was drowning. I was living. I was living. I was drowning.
For timelessness or a second (both felt the same), we would suspend, curl up, and then be forced back out into breathing air.
We should have known that it wouldn’t last forever. Yet, even under the best circumstances, there’s something so tragic about growing up: to have your perspective on the people and life around you change;to always struggle to reach a mirror only to find yourself tall enough to see your reflection one day. And find, a different person staring back out at you.

C
When the company OpenAI developed its new artificial intelligence (AI) program, ChatGPT, in late 2022, educators began to worry. ChatGPT could create text and it seemed that a human wrote it. How could teachers discover whether students were using language created by an AI chatbot to cheat on a writing task?
As a linguist who studies the effects of technology on how people read, write and think, I believe there are other more pressing concerns besides cheating. These include whether AI, more generally, threatens student writing skills, the value of writing as a process, and the importance of seeing writing as a tool for thinking.
As part of my research on the effects of AI on human writing, I surveyed young adults in the U. S. about some issues related to those effects. One participant said that at some point if you depend on predictive text, you’ re going to lose your spelling abilities. Enter “Was Rom” into a Google search and you’ re given a list of choices like “Was Rome built in a day”. Type “ple” into a text message and you’ re offered “please” and “plenty”. These tools complete our sentences automatically, giving us little chance to think about our spelling, and continuously asking us to follow their suggestions.
Evan Selinger, a philosopher, worried that predictive texting reduces the power of writing as a form of mental activity and personal expression. “By encouraging us not to think too deeply about our words, predictive technology may change how we deal with each other,” Selinger wrote, “We give others more algorithms (算法) and less of ourselves. Automation can stop us thinking and the resulting text didn’t feel like mine anymore.”
I asked ChatGPT whether it was a threat to humans’ motivation to write. The bot responded: “There will always be a demand for creative, original content that requires the unique viewpoint of a human writer.” It continued: “Writing serves many purposes beyond just the creation of content, such as self-expression, communication and personal growth, which can continue to encourage people to write even if certain types of writing can be automated.”
I was glad to find the program had seemingly admitted its limitations.
28. What’s the author’s main concern about ChatGPT?
A. Whether it will lead to students’ cheating.
B. Whether it will write articles like humans.
C. How students will make use of it at school.
D. What effects it will have on students’ writing.
29. What will predictive technology do to us according to Evan Selinger?
A. Give us more creative ideas. B. Make us write like a machine.
C. Encourage us to think more deeply. D. Make us tend to ignore grammatical mistakes.
30. What can we learn from ChatGPT’s response?
A. Writing will become completely automated.
B. Robots will work with humans in writing.
C. Robot writing will become more creative.
D. Human writing will still matter a lot.
31. What may the author think of the bot’s reply to his question?
A. Satisfactory. B. One-sided.
C Ambiguous. D. Unacceptable.

Along with a rising number of space missions by government agencies and private industries, comes a fresh set of problems for Earth: potentially dangerous space junk
A recent study published in the scientific journal Nature Astronomy concluded “that current space practices have a 10 percent chance of one or more deaths over a decade”. In other words, according to researchers from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, there’s roughly a one-in-ten chance that the next decade will witness falling space junk kill someone.
The space junk orbiting the earth is an unfortunate by-product of our desire to explore and document space. According to 2021 figures from NASA and the Department of Defense’s Space Surveillance Data, the agencies were actively tracking more than 27,000 pieces of space junk, most of which are larger than a softball and that casually orbit the planet. The floating space junk is certainly a problem, but not all the objects must come down, and, in fact, a number of pieces simply burn up in the atmosphere. Sometimes those objects, particularly large ones like used rocket attachments, give in to gravity and fall back down to Earth to be dealt with once again by their human makers. But typically, people don’t die or even get injured by this phenomenon — because many of the falling pieces crash into the ocean.
They also have to deal with the unsettling feeling of knowing that large rocket pieces can just fall from the sky and that it might affect people in certain parts of the world more than others.
This poses an obvious safety risk to people on the ground. “When some large parts of space junk return to Earth, the parts of their mass survive the heat of atmosphere. Many of the surviving pieces are potentially dangerous, giving serious risks on land, at sea, and to people in airplanes,” the study explains.
32. What is the conclusion of the study published in Nature Astronomy?
A. People will see space junk easily in the future.
B. Some people may be hit to death by objects from the space.
C. Government agencies and private industries will develop fast.
D. There will be a 10 percent chance for human to die in 10 years.
33. What can be inferred from the third paragraph?
A. Normally we should not worry about space junk.
B. All the space junk will get burnt in the sky.
C. The large space junk will destroy the ocean.
D. The floating space junk will come down finally.
34. What might be discussed in the following part of the text?
A. How to find space junk. B. How to deal with space junk.
C. How to check the space junk. D. How to inform people of the danger.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Space Junk Causes Pollution
B. How to Take Back Space Junk
C. Space Junk Puts People at Risk
D. Exploring Space Takes in Unfortunate Results

You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals.

I was walking along the road to school one day and I met my friend Raine. He suggested that we skip school and go to the movies. I refused as my dad was very fierce and strict. After much persuasion, I gave in. There was a Will Smith movie on and I was a fan.
So we set off to the movies together, bought our tickets, popcorn and drinks and settled down comfortably. As we were early, the lights were still on. We watched people come in groups, families and there were couples too. Some of them looked like school students playing truant(逃学)like us. As I turned around, I caught a glimpse of my uncle Andy and Aunt Jane walking in. They were kind and cared about me very much. I sank into my seat quickly to avoid being spotted. I signaled to Raine that there was someone I didn’t want to see and Raine made it more obvious by turning around and asking “Who? And where?” loudly. It made me sit even lower in my seat.
To make things worse, they came and sat in the row behind us and were saying to each other how I would have loved to come to this movie as I adored Will Smith. They were even commenting about the students playing truant. Soon the movie began and I was glad when the lights were turned off but I didn’t enjoy the movie at all for fear of being spotted. So, I sat there like an astronaut, peering over the front seat.
Every now and then I would secretly take a quick look at my aunt and uncle. I was sure they were also looking at me. Feeling nervous and anxious, I kept wondering how I could leave the cinema without being noticed.
注意:
1.所续写短文词数应为150左右;

A teahouse is the place where all walks of lie gather around. It is a small society, Lao She said in his famous play Teahouse. In Beijing, the most popular teahouses are story teahouses. In Hangzhou, tea-stalls (茶水摊) with seats in the open air along the West Lake are popular.

A. They played in the woods crazily.

C 25. A 26. A 27. C
根据考查词汇所在句子“My village was archaic, dying cabins housing dying farmers with dying traditions.(我的村庄很古老,垂死的小屋住着垂死的农民,他们的传统已经消亡。)”
根据文章第三段中的“Trees and mountains formed our playgrounds and fights broke out as easily as sudden laughter. Liberated from the restrictions of society, we would bound into the woods, deeper and deeper until we found a lake which, with a wild yell, we would jump into all at once.(树木和山脉构成了我们的游乐场,打架就像突然的笑声一样容易爆发。从社会的束缚中解放出来,我们会跳进树林里,越陷越深,直到发现一个湖,我们会大叫一声,立刻跳进湖里。)”,可知,之所以作者认为自己和其他孩子都是野孩子,是因为他们在树林里疯狂地玩耍。故选A。
根据文章第四至六段的“Water shone brightly and the sounds of our screams broke into the outcry from birds. The shock of cold water against sweating skin would wake every nerve in my body and my bare feet would hit the sinking muddy bottom. As we submerged(淹没), time would suspend, movements slowing as bubbles rose around us.(水面闪闪发光,我们的尖叫声被鸟儿的叫声打断了。冷水对着出汗的皮肤的冲击会唤醒我身体的每一根神经,我的光脚会撞到下沉的泥泞的底部。当我们潜入水中时,时间会停止,随着我们周围的气泡上升,运动变慢。)”和“I was drowning. I was living. I was living. I was drowning.(我快淹死了。我还活着。我还活着。我快淹死了。)”以及“For timelessness or a second (both felt the same), we would suspend, curl up, and then be forced back out into breathing air.(在一段时间或一秒钟内(两者的感觉都是一样的),我们会暂停,蜷缩起来,然后被迫重新呼吸空气。)” 故选A。
根据文章最后一段“We should have known that it wouldn’t last forever. Yet, even under the best circumstances, there’s something so tragic about growing up: to have your perspective on the people and life around you change;to always struggle to reach a mirror only to find yourself tall enough to see your reflection one day. And find, a different person staring back out at you.(我们早该知道爱情不会永远持续下去。然而,即使在最好的情况下,成长也有一些悲剧:你对周围人和生活的看法发生了变化;你总是挣扎着去拿镜子,却发现自己已经足够高,有一天可以看到自己的倒影。然后发现,另一个人正盯着你。)”,可知,作者在最后一段似乎传达了“成长常常伴随着对过去的悲伤告别。”故选C。
B. One-sided.
C. Ambiguous. D. Unacceptable.
D 29. B 30. D 31. A
根据第二段中“As a linguist who studies the effects of technology on how people read, write and think, I believe there are other more pressing concerns besides cheating. These include whether AI, more generally, threatens student writing skills, the value of writing as a process, and the importance of seeing writing as a tool for thinking. (作为一名研究科技对人们阅读、写作和思考方式影响的语言学家,我认为除了作弊之外,还有其他更紧迫的问题。这些问题包括人工智能是否会威胁到学生的写作技能,写作作为一个过程的价值,以及将写作视为一种思考工具的重要性)”可知,作者更关注它对学生写作会产生什么影响。故选D。
【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“Evan Selinger, a philosopher, worried that predictive texting reduces the power of writing as a form of mental activity and personal expression. “By encouraging us not to think too deeply about our words, predictive technology may change how we deal with each other, ” Selinger wrote, “We give others more algorithms (算法) and less of ourselves. Automation can stop us thinking and the resulting text didn’t feel like mine anymore.”
根据第五段中“The bot responded: “There will always be a demand for creative, original content that requires the unique viewpoint of a human writer.” It continued: “Writing serves many purposes beyond just the creation of content, such as self-expression, communication and personal growth, which can continue to encourage people to write even if certain types of writing can be automated.” (机器人回答说:“对创造性的原创内容的需求总是存在的,这需要人类作家的独特观点。”它还说:“除了创造内容之外,写作还有很多目的,比如自我表达、交流和个人成长,即使某些类型的写作可以自动化,这也会继续鼓励人们写作。”)”可知,虽然未来有些写作会实现自动化,但是那些原创、个性化的写作永远是需要的。由此推知,人类完成的写作很重要,机器无法取而代之。故选D。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段中“I was glad to find the program had seemingly admitted its limitations. (我很高兴地发现,这个项目似乎已经承认了它的局限性)” 可知,作者对ChatGPT的回答是满意的。故选A。

B 33. A 34. B 35. C
根据第二段中“In other words, according to researchers from the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia, there’s roughly a one-in-ten chance that the next decade will witness falling space junk kill someone. (换句话说,根据维多利亚大学和英属哥伦比亚大学的研究人员的研究,在未来十年里,大约有十分之一的机会看到太空垃圾坠落致死。)”可知,有些人可能会被来自太空的物体砸死。故选B。
【33题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“The floating space junk is certainly a problem, not all the objects that went up must come down, and, in fact, a number of pieces simply burn up in the atmosphere. (虽漂浮的太空垃圾确实是个问题,但并非所有上升的物体都必须下降,事实上,一些碎片只是在大气中燃烧。)”以及“But typically, people don’t die or even get injured by this phenomenon — because many of the falling pieces crash into the ocean. (但通常情况下,人们不会因为这种现象而死亡甚至受伤——因为许多坠落的碎片都坠入了海洋。)”可知,虽然太空漂浮垃圾是个问题,但是很多碎片在大气中燃烧了,或者在通常情况,即使有许多太空垃圾碎片坠落,但都坠入了海洋,通常我们不应该担心太空垃圾。故选A。
根据最后一段中““When some large parts of space junk return to Earth, the parts of their mass survive the heat of atmosphere. Many of the surviving pieces are potentially dangerous, giving serious risks on land, at sea, and to people in airplanes,” the study explains.
通读全文,尤其是根据文章第一段“Along with a rising number of space missions by government agencies and private industries, comes a fresh set of problems for Earth: potentially dangerous space junk (太空垃圾). (随着政府机构和私营企业越来越多的太空任务,给地球带来了一系列新的问题:潜在的危险太空垃圾。)”可知,文章主要讲述的是随着政府机构和私营企业进行越来越多的太空任务,地球面临着一个新的问题:潜在的危险的太空碎片。一项最近发表在科学期刊《自然天文学》上的研究得出结论,目前的做法在未来十年内有10%的几率造成一人或多人死亡。C选项“Space Junk Puts People at Risk (太空垃圾使人类处于危险之中)”符合题意。故选C。

Imagine a child standing on a diving board four feet high and asking himself the question: “Should I jump?” This is what motivation or the lack of it can do. Motivation and goal setting are the two sides of same coin. ___36___ Like the child on the diving board, you will stay undecided.
___37___ More than that, how should you stay motivated to achieve the goal? First, you need to evaluate yourself, your values, your strengths, your weaknesses, your achievements, your desires, etc. Only then should you set your goals.
You also need to judge the quality and depth of your motivation. This is quite important, because it is directly related to your commitment. There are times when your heart is not in your work. ___38___ So, slow down and think what you really want to do at that moment. Clarity(清晰) of thoughts can help you move forward.
Another way of setting realistic goals is to analyze your short and long term objectives, keeping in mind your beliefs, values and strengths. Remember that goals are flexible. ___39___ They also need to be measurable. You must keep these points in mind while setting your goals.
Your personal circumstances are equally important. For example, you may want to be a pilot but can’t become one because your eyesight is not good enough. ___40___You should reassess your goals, and motivate yourself to set a fresh goal.
You will surely need to overcome some difficulties, some planned, but most unplanned. You cannot overcome them without ample motivation. Make sure that you plan for these difficulties at the time of setting your goals.
A. This can affect your work.
B. So how should you motivate yourself?
C. However, this should not discourage you.
D. So why should we try to set specific goals?

故填at。
故填their。

故填a。
故填that或which。

注意:
1.所续写短文词数应为150左右;
When the movie ended and the lights came on, I remained seated.

In front of us were my aunt and uncle, waiting at the gate.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
When the movie ended and the lights came on, I remained seated. Hearing the crowds slowly move towards the door, my heart was beating wildly, but I knew if I stood up, I might be discovered. It felt like forever until almost all the people left. I peeked at where my aunt and uncle had been and found they were gone. Raine nodded at me, and we made a dash out of the door and fled down the stairs. I was running towards the gate of the cinema like crazy when I spotted two familiar figures.
In front of us were my aunt and uncle, waiting at the gate. “We saw you the moment we came in. You haven’t really enjoyed the movie, have you?” Out of breath, we hung our head in shame. Biting my lips, I heard Raine trying to defend ourselves, “It was my idea, Sir! But school is boring!” A long, horrible silence. Then my aunt just asked us to think about how worried my mother and how angry and disappointed my father would be. Raine said no more, and I felt even guiltier. In the end, we decided to make a sincere apology to my parents and my teachers as well.
