B Josh Klein is a pioneer in finding creative solutions to one of the world’s most pressing environmental problems: food waste. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), approximately one-third of the food produced worldwide is wasted every year, which amounts to about 1.3 billion tons. Josh, however, isn’t just talking about the problem — he’s actively working to solve it. Josh Klein founded Spoiler Alert, a startup that helps businesses manage and reduce food waste by connecting surplus food with charitable organizations and food banks. The platform allows companies to sell or donate food that might otherwise go to waste, creating a win-win situation for both businesses and communities in need. Josh’s journey into the world of food waste innovation began while he was working in the tech industry. He realized that just like many other industries, food production and distribution could benefit from more efficient management. His company, Spoiler Alert, uses technology to provide real-time data to businesses, helping them track food waste and make more informed decisions. By streamlining (优化) food distribution and connecting businesses with organizations in need, Josh’s platform helps to redirect millions of pounds of food away from landfills. One of the most important aspects of Josh’s approach is the use of technology to solve a real-world problem. Through data analytics and a user-friendly interface, Spoiler Alert has transformed the way companies think about waste. Instead of seeing excess food as a loss, businesses are now able to see it as a valuable resource that can benefit others. Josh’s work not only reduces food waste but also helps provide food to those who need it most. His platform has already been adopted by large companies in the food industry, and it continues to grow as more businesses recognize the potential of reducing waste while giving back to their communities. Through his innovation, Josh Klein is showing the world how technology and entrepreneurship (企业家精神) can make a meaningful impact on society. By tackling food waste, he is helping to create a more sustainable future for everyone. 24. What is the main goal of Josh Klein’s startup Spoiler Alert? A. To support agricultural development in poor regions. B. To optimize food production processes for companies. C. To address food waste through nonprofit partnerships. D. To minimize waste by commercializing excess food. 25. How does Spoiler Alert assist businesses in reducing food waste? A. By offering real-time data to track food waste. B. By selling surplus food to consumers directly. C. By offering large discounts on food production. D. By providing a platform to advertise surplus food. 26. What change in business attitude does Josh Klein’s platform promote? A. Focusing only on reducing food production costs. B. Treating excess food as a loss rather than a resource. C. Reducing the amount of food produced to minimize waste. D. Viewing surplus food as a valuable resource for donation. 27. Which of the following best describes Josh Klein? A Creative and honest. B. Passionate and generous. C. Innovative and determined. D. Ambitious and warm-hearted. C Imagine waking up feeling anxious and hopeless. You think, “I’ll never be happy. Nothing I do matters.” The more you focus on these thoughts, the worse you feel. But what’s really going on? Are your thoughts causing your feelings, or is it the other way around? For centuries, people have debated the cause of emotional suffering. Is it childhood trauma (创伤)? A chemical imbalance in the brain? A lack of love and connection? Every school of psychology has its own theory, with hundreds of ideas but little conclusive proof. Over 1,700 years ago, the Greek Stoic philosopher Epictetus proposed a different theory. He argued that it’s not life events that upset us, but our thoughts about them. This idea became the foundation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT suggests that if you change the way you think, you can change the way you feel. It’s an exciting claim — but is it true? We decided to test it using data from a new mental health app. In our first study, we analyzed data from 290 testers of the Feeling Great app. Unlike traditional studies that rely on broad, retrospective (回顾性) surveys (asking how you’ve felt over the past two weeks), our app measured users’ negative thoughts and feelings in the here and now, using new, extremely sensitive scales. This distinction is crucial. By tracking moment-to-moment changes, we could test if negative thoughts (e.g., “I’m a failure”) actually cause negative feelings or if it’s the other way around. On average, users who reduced their belief in their negative thought to zero experienced an 87% reduction in seven negative emotions during their first session. Our data strongly supports CBT’s central idea that thoughts shape emotions far more than emotions shape thoughts. To ensure that our findings were solid, we conducted a second independent study with 1,393 users of an AI-enhanced version of the app. The results? Practically identical. Interestingly, with the larger sample size, we did detect a small but statistically significant effect of emotions influencing thoughts — but the effect was barely detectable and far weaker than the impact of thoughts on feelings. This suggests that emotions can sometimes influence thoughts, but the effect is minor in comparison to the power of thoughts to shape emotions. And that’s a discovery Epictetus would have been proud of. 28. What is the central idea of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) discussed in the article? A. Changing how you think can affect how you feel. B. Life events are the main cause of our emotional struggles. C. Childhood trauma is the root cause of emotional distress. D. Emotions shape thoughts more than thoughts shape emotions. 29. What was different about the Feeling Great app study? A. It focused on physical symptoms. B. It tracked thoughts and feelings in real-time. C. It asked users to recall past emotions. D. It tracked emotions over a long period. 30. What did the second study show? A. Users’ emotions were unchanged. B. Emotions greatly affect your thinking. C. Thoughts and emotions are unrelated. D. Thoughts have a stronger effect on emotions. 31. Which of the following would be the best title for this article? A. The Power of Emotions: How They Shape Our Thoughts B. Childhood Trauma and Depression: Unveiling the Connection C. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Changing How We Think to Feel Better D. What Causes Depression: New Research Confirms Ancient Wisdom D You see a fantastic offer, like a hotel room. You decide to book. Then it turns out there is a service fee. Then a cleaning fee. Then a few other extra costs. By the time you pay the final price, it is no longer the fantastic offer you thought. Welcome to the world of drip pricing — the practice of promoting something at an attractive headline price and then, once you’ve committed to the purchase process, hitting you with unavoidable add-ons that are “dripped”. In most cases, you see through all additionally added mandatory fees, and even though you could relinquish the deal, you choose to bite the bullet and complete the deal. Resistance to the idea of starting the search all over again is not simply a matter of laziness or indecision. There’s a profound psychological mechanism at play here, called the present bias. In the paper, Doing It Now or Later, economist Matthew Rabin defines people’s present-biased preference via an example of choosing between doing seven hours of unpleasant activity on April 1 or eight hours two weeks later: If asked on February 1, most people will choose the earlier option. But come April 1, given the same choice, most of us tend to put off work till April 15. In simple terms, the inconvenience of doing something “right now” often feels disproportionately large. Beyond the challenge of starting over, there’s another psychological phenomenon that drip pricing uses - loss aversion. Imagine you’re booking tickets for a show. Initially attracted by the headline price, you’re now presented with different seating categories. Seeing a VIP ticket is within your budget, you decide to fork out. But then, during the checkout process, the drip begins. You realize you could have chosen lower-category seats, but by this stage, you’ve already imagined yourself enjoying the show from those nice seats. Going back to a cheaper seat will feel like a loss. Buyers would benefit from a ban on drip pricing. Many countries are taking steps to protect consumers from drip pricing. The effectiveness of such measures, however, is uncertain. Nonetheless, you can hopefully make a more informed decision by understanding why the strategy works. 32. Which of the following is an example of drip pricing? A. FlightHub introduces a bonus after you choose their flight. B. Airbnb offers you a membership account when you book a trip. C. Rent-A-Car charges wear and tear fees beyond the advertised price. D. Ticketmaster provides optional items at later stages of your purchase. 33. What does the underlined word “relinquish” in paragraph 3 mean? A. Reach. B. Abandon. C. Sign. D. Expand. 34. How will Rabin explain people’s refusal to cancel an order and remake one? A. People are likely to blindly stick to their initial intentions. B. People like to grab earlier rewards and delay immediate costs. C. People struggle to make a decision among multiple choices. D. People tend to tolerate additional costs within their budget. 35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text? A. To explain why people fall into the drip pricing trick. B. To educate customers on how to deal with drip pricing. C. To call on governments to protect consumers’ interests. D. To introduce two psychological phenomena about spending. Knowledge is power, and the more you learn about mental health, the better the position you may be in to help those facing mental health battles. In the past, its clear waters sparkled (闪耀) like diamonds under the sun, and the gentle rustling (沙沙声) of the leaves along the banks created a pleasant tune. Colorful fish and frogs made it their home, and kids in the neighborhood would spend hours by the water, observing the wonders of nature. However, over time, the pond became a victim of neglect and littering. Empty plastic bottles, fast-food wrappers (包装袋), and even old bicycles were carelessly thrown into the water. The once-clear waters turned dark, and a strange smell began to hang over the area, driving away the wildlife. One sunny afternoon, I took a walk around the pond and was shocked by its sorry state. Determined to do something about it, I took out my phone and started taking pictures from every angle. Each image recorded the extent of the pollution, serving as a reminder of the urgent need for action. After getting home, I sat down and crafted a detailed plan. I estimated that we would need at least twenty volunteers to cover all areas of the pond. I made a list of necessary tools, such as long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins. Then, I spent hours designing posters with pictures of the polluted pond and the words “Let’s Bring Back Our Shining Pond.” I first shared my plan with my closest friends. We met at a nearby playground, and as I showed them the pictures, they were horrified. “I can’t believe it’s become like this,” shouted Jack. “We used to have so much fun here,” added Emily, her voice filled with sadness. I then presented my plan, and without hesitation, they all agreed to help. The next step was to spread the word to more kids in the community. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, the big cleaning day arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $英语听力。 I'm ready. Scientists have created a clever way to protect farms from elephants in south africa. Of course, elephants don't attack humans or try to eat pets, but when these creatures wander near farms or houses, they can easily crush plants, structures or cars with their feet. Recently, farmers have started using bees to keep elephants away. Why would this work? Elephants aren't big fans of bees. When they hear recordings of bees through speakers around the farm, they run away. Bees can staying, and elephants can breathe in these insects through their sensitive noses. The best part is that IT doesn't harm the elephants. IT just reminds them to stay away. This creative solution was proposed this spring with tests of its results beginning this summer and finishing this autumn. If this works, IT will protect farms all over africa. It's amazing how creative ideas like this can help protect both animals and farms. Now let's hear from the owner of this agricultural center today. I have some interesting news for animal lovers. A. Creative and honest. B. 31 Which of the following would be the best title for this article? A. The Power of Emotions: How They Shape Our Thoughts B. Childhood Trauma and Depression: Unveiling the Connection C. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Changing How We Think to Feel Better D. What Causes Depression: New Research Confirms Ancient Wisdom 【答案】28. A 29. B 30. D 31. 根据第三段中“CBT suggests that if you change the way you think, you can change the way you feel. (认知行为疗法认为,如果你改变思维方式,就能改变感受方式。)”可知,认知行为疗法的核心观点是改变思维方式可以影响感受方式。故选A。 根据第四段中“Unlike traditional studies that rely on broad, retrospective (回顾性) surveys (asking how you’ve felt over the past two weeks), our app measured users’ negative thoughts and feelings in the here and now, using new, extremely sensitive scales. (与传统的依赖于广泛、回顾性调查(询问过去两周的感受)的研究不同,我们的应用程序使用新的、极其敏感的量表来测量用户此时此地的负面想法和感受。)”可知,Feeling Great应用程序研究的不同之处在于它实时追踪了想法和感受。故选B。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中“This suggests that emotions can sometimes influence thoughts, but the effect is minor in comparison to the power of thoughts to shape emotions. (这表明情绪有时会影响想法,但与想法塑造情绪的力量相比,这种影响微不足道。)”可知,第二项研究表明想法对情绪的影响更大。故选D。 【31题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是结合第三段中“Over 1,700 years ago, the Greek Stoic philosopher Epictetus proposed a different theory. He argued that it’s not life events that upset us, but our thoughts about them. This idea became the foundation of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). C. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了滴漏式定价的策略及其背后的心理学机制,以及消费者为何容易陷入这种定价陷阱。 【32题详解】 推理判断题。由文章第二段“Welcome to the world of drip pricing — the practice of promoting something at an attractive headline price and then, once you’ve committed to the purchase process, hitting you with unavoidable add-ons that are “dripped”. (欢迎来到滴漏式定价的世界——一种以吸引人的标题价格促销商品的做法,然后,一旦你承诺购买过程,就会用不可避免的“滴漏式”附加条款来打击你。)”可知,Rent-A-Car在广告价格之外收取磨损费是滴漏式定价的一个例子。故选C。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。由第三段中“In most cases, you see through all additionally added mandatory fees, and even though you could relinquish the deal, you choose to bite the bullet and complete the deal. (在大多数情况下,你看透了所有额外的强制性费用,即使你可以relinquish这笔交易,你还是选择咬紧牙关完成这笔交易。)”可知,尽管你可以放弃这笔交易,但你还是选择咬紧牙关完成交易。relinquish意为“放弃”。A. Reach达到;B. Abandon放弃;C. Sign签名;D. Expand扩展。故选B。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。由第四段中“In the paper, Doing It Now or Later, economist Matthew Rabin defines people’s present-biased preference via an example of choosing between doing seven hours of unpleasant activity on April 1 or eight hours two weeks later: If asked on February 1, most people will choose the earlier option. But come April 1, given the same choice, most of us tend to put off work till April 15. 通读全文,尤其是由文章第二段“Welcome to the world of drip pricing — the practice of promoting something at an attractive headline price and then, once you’ve committed to the purchase process, hitting you with unavoidable add-ons that are “dripped”. (欢迎来到滴漏式定价的世界——一种以吸引人的标题价格促销商品的做法,然后,一旦你承诺购买过程,就会用不可避免的“滴漏式”附加条款来打击你。)”和最后一段中“Buyers would benefit from a ban on drip pricing. Many countries are taking steps to protect consumers from drip pricing. The effectiveness of such measures, however, is uncertain. Nonetheless, you can hopefully make a more informed decision by understanding why the strategy works. (买家将从滴漏式定价禁令中受益。许多国家正在采取措施保护消费者免受滴漏式定价的影响。然而,这些措施的有效性尚不确定。尽管如此,你还是可以通过理解为什么这个策略有效而做出更明智的决定。)”可知,文章主要介绍了滴漏式定价的策略,解释了为什么人们会落入这种定价策略的陷阱,并讨论了禁止滴漏式定价的措施。因此,作者的主要目的是解释为什么人们会落入滴漏式定价的陷阱。故选A。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Knowledge is power, and the more you learn about mental health, the better the position you may be in to help those facing mental health battles. I believe it’s good to pursue perfection to some extent. Once, I aimed for perfection when preparing for an English speech contest. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题纸相应位置作答。 The next step was to spread the word to more kids in the community. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, the big cleaning day arrived. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: The next step was to spread the word to more kids in the community. Armed with posters, we visited schools, community centers, and playgrounds. We passionately shared our plan and showed pictures of the pond’s once-beautiful state. The kids, initially hesitant, perked up when we described how cleaning might be fun and how it would restore the pond’s future. We also created a social media group, posting updates and appealing for more help. Slowly but surely, more and more kids joined our cause. Before long, we had well over twenty enthusiastic volunteers, far exceeding my initial estimate. Finally, the big cleaning day arrived. Equipped with long-handled scoops, waterproof boots, and garbage bins, we gathered around the pond. Everyone was full of energy, ready to take on the challenge. We carefully scooped up trash from the water surface, while others collected litter on the banks. As we worked, a sense of unity and purpose filled the air. After hours of hard work, the pond was transformed. The water started to regain its clarity, and the foul smell dissipated. Looking at our work, we felt a great sense of achievement, knowing that we had made a real difference to our community. 词汇激活 行为类 ①宣传:spread the word/publicize ②恢复:restore/recover ③消散:dissipated/vanished 情绪类 ①热情地:passionately/enthusiastically ②成就感:a sense of achievement/a feeling of accomplishment 【点睛】【高分句型1】Armed with posters, we visited schools, community centers, and playgrounds.(运用过去分词短语作状语) 【高分句型 2】The kids, initially hesitant, perked up when we described how cleaning might be fun and how it would restore the pond’s future.(运用了when引导时间状语从句以及两个 how 引导的宾语从句) 【高分句型 3】Looking at our work, we felt a great sense of achievement, knowing that we had made a real difference to our community.(运用了现在分词短语作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
