二、阅读理解
People love to celebrate in Indonesia. Indonesians believe that celebrating and eating together can bring good luck for themselves.
Nyepi, New Year in Indonesia, is in March or April. It is a symbol of a fresh start for people. On the eve of Nyepi, families and friends get together in the market. They carry a huge wooden monster around the village three times. After that, people set it on fire, hoping to drive out evil spirits. They hope that all the bad things can disappear in the new year.
After Nyepi, a Turun tanah ceremony begins in honor of a child’s first step. At the Turun Tanah, parents introduce their baby to their friends and relatives by holding a party. They put different objects, such as a watch, a pen or a toy computer around their baby. If the baby picks up a pen, he or she may be a writer in the future.
Galungan is an important festival, which is completely different from Turun tanah. Galungan celebrates the past, which usually lasts for 10 days. Ancestors “return home” during this ten-day celebration. And living relatives do their best to make them happy. Besides, tall bamboo poles line the streets. People also attend the ceremonies and visit the temples. Actors and dancers give performances.
Festivals make our life more colorful. Their history, traditions, significance and celebrations make them meaningful holidays that continue to be celebrated in many cultures.

【答案】例文:
Dear Li Wei,
I am happy to hear that you are going to South Korea for further study. Life in South Korea is not difficult, but you should know some customs before you go in order to make your life there easier.
In South Korea, you are supposed to bow when you meet someone. The table manners there are a bit different from those in China. You are not supposed to make noise while eating or pick up your bowl. You should put your rice bowl on your left and your soup bowl on your right. If you are invited to a South Korean’s house, you’d better take off your shoes, so it is rude if you don’t wear your socks. By the way, if you are invited to a dinner party, remember to bring a small gift.
I hope you will have a good time in South Korea.
Yours
Zhao Ming
