I think of the one activity that quiets my mind: clamming (挖蛤) on Cape Cod. Before I had kids, it was a much-needed active outing after days of vacation-level heavy diet. But when I went with kids, the experience took a turn from rest to devotion (奉献). Cape Cod became part of the world I was trying to build for my children. The act of clamming became an unexpected escape, a moment when I wasn’t thinking about 20 different things, when I wasn’t really thinking at all. This year, for the first time, my children joined me. I kept yelping when my children almost hurt my feet with the digging tool. But there was joy in having something to teach them and connect them not only to a generational tradition but also to the history of the land. And when they raised their basket, and it wasn’t a rock for the hundredth time, but rather a shining clam, it was a richer moment than if they had struck gold. Seeing a child holding up a clam with an expression of success on his face does more for the heart than any meditation (冥想) ever could. I hope that one day my children will view clamming as relaxation like I do. They are not there yet. At this point, it is more an adventure than a getaway. At the end of our clamming morning, my 6-year-old daughter refused to leave, insisting she needed one more clam. When she finally caught one more clam, she laughed, pride written all over her face. Perhaps what she really needed was to have a tiny bit of control over this wild world, one in which she has little say. At that moment, she was victorious, if not in calm, then in clam. 4. Why did the author go clamming before becoming a mother? A. To find pleasure in hunting for food. B. To enjoy relaxation after overeating. C. To spend quality time with her family. D. To escape the responsibility as an adult. 5. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The change of a family tradition. B. The benefits of exploring the land. C. The necessity of parental company. D. The pleasure of clamming with kids. 6. How did the kids like clamming? A. Tiring but attractive. B. Painful but relaxing. C. Demanding but interesting. D. Adventurous but rewarding. 7. What does the author imply in the last paragraph? A. She is successful in removing pressure. B. She prides herself on educating children. C. Clamming means to her and her kids differently. D. Clamming protects and repairs family relationships. B 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第一段“I think of the one activity that quiets my mind: clamming (挖蛤) on Cape Cod.(我想起了让自己内心平静的一种活动:在科德角挖蛤)”和第二段“Before I had kids, it was a much-needed active outing after days of vacation-level heavy diet.(在有了孩子之前,这是一次非常必要的户外活动,因为它能让我从几天的暴饮暴食中恢复过来)”可知,作者在文中提到,在她有孩子之前,挖蛤是一种在度假期间大吃大喝后急需的户外活动,可以让她放松身心。 根据第三段“This year, for the first time, my children joined me. Seeing a child holding up a clam with an expression of success on his face does more for the heart than any meditation (冥想) ever could.(今年,我的孩子们第一次和我一起参与了这项活动。 根据第三段“This year, for the first time, my children joined me. I kept yelping when my children almost hurt my feet with the digging tool. But there was joy in having something to teach them and connect them not only to a generational tradition but also to the history of the land.(今年,我的孩子们第一次和我一起参与了这项活动。 根据最后一段“I hope that one day my children will view clamming as relaxation like I do. They are not there yet. At this point, it is more an adventure than a getaway.(我希望有一天我的孩子们能像我一样把挖蛤视为一种放松。他们还没到那一步。在这一点上,它更像是冒险而不是逃避)”和“Perhaps what she really needed was to have a tiny bit of control over this wild world, one in which she has little say. At that moment, she was victorious, if not in calm, then in clam.(或许她真正需要的,是能在这个她几乎毫无话语权的疯狂世界中,获得一丝小小的掌控权。在那一刻,她算是胜利了,即便不是在平静的状态下取得的胜利,也是在相对平静的状态下取得的胜利)”可知,最后一段中提到作者和孩子对挖蛤有不同的看法和需求,作者希望孩子将挖蛤视为放松的方式,但孩子可能更需要的是在野生世界中拥有一点点控制权,这表明挖蛤对他们有不同的意义。故选C。 C Sometimes a little modern technology can help turn up an ancient treasure—even if that technology is nothing more than a computer screen and a simple web search. That’s what happened to Federica Gigante, a historian at the University of Cambridge, who was preparing a lecture about ancient collectors. One of those collectors was a 17th-century Italian nobleman from Verona named Ludovico Moscardo. “I simply searched for his name online,” recalls Gigante. The search called up a picture of a room from the Fondazione Museo Miniscalchi-Erizzo in Verona, Italy. She noticed an object on the corner that looked like an astrolabe(星盘). Gigante didn’t know this astrolabe would allow her to chart its journey in the Middle Ages. Gigante tracked down other photos of the object. “And that’s when I got really excited because it was a really amazing object,” she says. It was covered in Arabic. As Gigante examined the photos of this astrolabe carefully, she realized that to understand it further, she simply had to see it up close. So she made her way to Verona. The astrolabe underwent many modifications(修改), additions, and adaptations as it changed hands. At least three separate users felt the need to add translations and corrections to this object, two using Hebrew and one using a Western language. “We can read all of this from the object itself,” says Gigante. “It is powerful evidence of a period of shared existence between different groups who kept on building on each other’s knowledge.” Margaret Gaida, a historian, praised Gigante’s discovery. “It’s actually really exciting,” she says, “because there are very few astrolabes that actually have such clear evidence of coexistence and scientific exchange. Astrolabes like this one remind us that we have a very strong, shared scientific cultural heritage.” In addition, Gaida also explained that the astrolabe helped dispel the opinion that modern science was born in Europe alone. 8. When did Gigante find the astrolabe? A. During conducting an online lecture. B. During touring old museums virtually. C. During analyzing a friend’s collection. D. During collecting data about an Italian. 9. What do we know about the astrolabe? A. It had three owners in order. B. It belongs to an Italian collector. C. It was created by ancient Hebrews. D. It shows cross-cultural communication. 10. What does the underlined word “dispel” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Remove. B. Simplify. C. Improve. D. Explain. 11. What’s the author’s purpose of writing the text? A To introduce an unintended discovery. B. To stress the significance of astrolabes. C. To share Gigante’s job responsibilities. D. To fan readers’ curiosity about Italian culture. D 9. D 10. A 11. 根据文章第一段“That’s what happened to Federica Gigante, a historian at the University of Cambridge, who was preparing a lecture about ancient collectors. One of those collectors was a 17th-century Italian nobleman from Verona named Ludovico Moscardo.(剑桥大学历史学家Federica Gigante就经历了这样的事,她当时正在准备一场关于古代收藏家的讲座,其中一位收藏家是17世纪意大利维罗纳的贵族 Ludovico Moscardo。)”以及第二段““I simply searched for his name online,” recalls Gigante. The search called up a picture of a room from the Fondazione Museo Miniscalchi-Erizzo in Verona, Italy. She noticed an object on the corner that looked like an astrolabe.(“我只是在网上搜索了他的名字,”Gigante回忆道。搜索结果中出现了一张意大利维罗纳 Fondazione Museo Miniscalchi - Erizzo博物馆内一间展厅的照片。她注意到角落里有一件看起来像星盘的物品。)”可知,Gigante在准备关于古代收藏家 Ludovico Moscardo的讲座时,通过在线搜索其名字发现了星盘的相关照片。故选D。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第四段“At least three separate users felt the need to add translations and corrections to this object, two using Hebrew and one using a Western language. “We can read all of this from the object itself,” says Gigante. “It is powerful evidence of a period of shared existence between different groups who kept on building on each other’s knowledge.”(至少有三位不同的使用者觉得有必要在这件物品上添加翻译和修正内容,其中两人用了希伯来语,一人用了西方语言。“我们可以从这件物品本身解读所有这些信息,”Gigante说,“它是不同群体在此期间共享知识、不断在彼此基础上构建认知的有力证据。”)”以及第五段““It’s actually really exciting,” she says, “because there are very few astrolabes that actually have such clear evidence of coexistence and scientific exchange. Astrolabes like this one remind us that we have a very strong, shared scientific cultural heritage.”(“这实际上非常令人兴奋,”她说,“因为很少有星盘能如此清晰地证明不同文化的共存与科学交流。这样的星盘提醒我们,人类拥有深厚且共通的科学文化遗产。”)”可知,星盘上有希伯来语和西方语言的内容,证明了不同文化群体的知识共享与交流,直接体现了跨文化沟通。故选D。 【10题详解】 词义猜测题。根据划线单词所在语境““It’s actually really exciting,” she says, “because there are very few astrolabes that actually have such clear evidence of coexistence and scientific exchange. Astrolabes like this one remind us that we have a very strong, shared scientific cultural heritage.” In addition, Gaida also explained that the astrolabe helped dispel the opinion that modern science was born in Europe alone.(“这实际上非常令人兴奋,”她说,“因为很少有星盘能如此清晰地证明不同文化共存与科学交流。这样的星盘提醒我们,人类拥有深厚且共通的科学文化遗产。” 此外,Gaida还解释称,这件星盘有助于……现代科学仅诞生于欧洲的观点。)”可知,,星盘证明了不同文化的科学交流,因此该发现应是“消除”了“现代科学仅诞生于欧洲”的片面观点。选项A“remove”意为“移除”,与此相符。故选A。 根据文章第一段“Sometimes a little modern technology can help turn up an ancient treasure—even if that technology is nothing more than a computer screen and a simple web search.(有时,一点现代技术就能帮助发现古代宝藏——即便这项技术不过是一块电脑屏幕和一次简单的网络搜索。)” A。 D A photo taken in January 2023 shows a pack of wolves after they killed a moose (驼鹿) at Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park. A photo taken in February 2023 shows two wolf pups playing in the snow at the park. Gray wolves are growing at the park five years after authorities began an attempt to prevent the species from dying out on the Lake Superior island chain. The park is now home to 31 wolves, despite host to only two in 2018. At the same time, the park’s moose population continues a sharp but needed drop. Overpopulation of the animals is the leading cause of their death as they outnumber available balsam firs-their primary food during long, snowbound winters. “The change appears to prove officials’ 2018 decision to airlift wolves to Isle Royale is right,” the researchers said, arguing that the wolves’ return is helping rebalance an ecosystem. The scientists’ annual report, based largely on observations from the air last winter, estimated (估算) the rebuilt population at 31 wolves-up from 28 last year. The moose total was roughly 967, down from 1,346 last year and a 54% decline from about 2,000 in 2019. Ecologists are celebrating what they hope will be a healthier herd. “It’s been hugely successful,” said study co-leader Sarah Hoy. “That’s what everyone was hoping for.” But the early results haven’t settled the debate over whether people should rescue struggling species at Isle Royale or other wilderness areas, where federal (联邦的) law calls for letting nature take its course. “We have felt and still believe that the National Park Service should not step in and set up this unnatural population of wolves,” said Kevin Proescholdt. “Species come and species go,” Proescholdt said, arguing that the Wilderness Act directs us to let nature call the shots and not to impose our human desires. For now, the park’s ecosystem is getting healthier thanks to the wolves’ return. “The old hands-off approach to managing national parks, figuring everything will turn out OK, is probably not enough,” biologist Rolf Peterson said. “Our footprints are all over the entire globe.” 12. What does the author want to show by describing two photos? A. The protection of wildlife habitat. B. The wolves’ high place in nature. C. The difficulty of finding food in winter. D. The effects of the park’s wildlife management. 13. What can we learn about the report from paragraph 3? A. It objects to reintroducing wolves. B. Its results live up to ecologists’ expectations. C It helps to protect moose from being killed. D. Its data comes from observations made each winter. 14. Which statement will Proescholdt probably agree with? A. The park has little regard for the law. B. Humans maintain the balance of nature. C. Nature determines the future of species. D. Grey wolves are an endangered species. 15. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Should we save Isle Royale National Park? B. How did two wolves impact an ecosystem? C. Grey wolves’ recovery helped a park’s ecosystem D. The hands-off way to control parks pays off 【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第一段“A photo taken January 2023 shows a pack of wolves after they killed a moose (驼鹿) at Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park. A photo taken in February 2023 shows two wolf pups playing in the snow at the park. Gray wolves are growing at the park five years after authorities began an attempt to prevent the species from dying out on the Lake Superior island chain. The park is now home to 31 wolves, despite host to only two in 2018.(一张拍摄于 2023 年 1 月的照片显示,在密歇根州的伊尔雷奥国家公园,一群狼在捕杀了一头驼鹿后正在休息。另一张拍摄于 2023 年 2 月的照片则展示了两只狼崽在公园的雪地里玩耍的情景。在当局开始采取措施防止该物种在苏必利尔湖群岛上的灭绝五年后,这个公园内的灰狼数量正在不断增加。尽管 2018 年时公园内仅有两只狼,但如今已拥有 31 只狼)”以及第二段““The change appears to prove officials’ 2018 decision to airlift wolves to Isle Royale is right,” the researchers said, arguing that the wolves’ return is helping rebalance an ecosystem.( 研究人员表示:“这一变化似乎证明了 2018 年官员们将狼空运到伊尔雷奥岛的决定是正确的。”他们认为狼的回归有助于重新平衡该生态系统)”可知,作者通过描述这两张照片想要表达公园野生动物管理所产生的影响。故选D。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段““It’s been hugely successful,” said study co-leader Sarah Hoy. “That’s what everyone was hoping for.”(“这项研究取得了巨大成功,”研究的共同负责人萨拉·霍伊说道。“这正是大家所期望的结果。”)”可知,这份报告的结果符合生态学家的预期。故选B。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段““We have felt and still believe that the National Park Service should not step in and set up this unnatural population of wolves,” said Kevin Proescholdt. “Species come and species go,” Proescholdt said, arguing that the Wilderness Act directs us to let nature call the shots and not to impose our human desires.(凯文·普雷斯科尔特说:“我们一直认为,国家公园管理局不应介入并人为创造出这种非自然的狼群数量。”普雷斯科尔特还表示:“物种有兴有灭是自然规律。”他认为,《荒野法》要求我们遵循自然规律,而非强加我们人类的意愿)”可知,普雷施奥特可能会同意自然决定物种的未来。故选C。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,并根据第二段““The change appears to prove officials’ 2018 decision to airlift wolves to Isle Royale is right,” the researchers said, arguing that the wolves’ return is helping rebalance an ecosystem.( 研究人员表示:“这一变化似乎证明了 2018 年官员们将狼空运到伊尔雷奥岛的决定是正确的。”他们认为狼的回归有助于重新平衡该生态系统)”可知,文章主要说明了在当局的努力下,Isle Royale国家公园的灰狼数量变多,公园中的生态系统也更加平衡。可知,C选项“灰狼的恢复有助于公园的生态系统”最符合文章标题。故选C。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) A porcelain (瓷器) painter is also called a china painter or decorator. Michael and his parents were busy planning a big party for him when Grandpa invited him for a walk. Thinking of Grandpa’s joy of waving at passers-by, Michael eagerly agreed. “I’m ready, Grandpa!” Michael replied, watching Grandpa put on his beloved red hat before they went out. As they walked, Grandpa cheerfully waved at the cars that drove by. A young boy leaned out of the window and shouted, “There’s the man in the red hat!” Grandpa waved to him and the people in the next three cars, all of whom joyfully waved back. Although Michael didn’t understand why Grandpa was doing so, he thought it interesting. As they turned a corner, an old man with a brown hat was walking towards them. “Hi, Joseph, it’s good to see you,” Grandpa greeted him warmly. “I hate going out in winter!” Joseph complained, pulling his scarf up over his mouth and nose as he walked by. “He’s bad-tempered (脾气坏的)!” Michael said in a low voice. But Grandpa whispered to him that Joseph was just lonely, for he lived by himself, and suggested they might be able to help. Suddenly, a rush of wind blew off Joseph’s brown hat, sending it towards the pond before the hat disappeared from sight. Joseph was very upset, shaking in the cold. Without hesitation, Grandpa lent a helping hand. “You can take mine if you don’t mind,” he said, handing his red hat over to Joseph. “Thanks,” Joseph said, putting on the red hat and continuing on his way. A car passed, and the people inside waved at Joseph, recognizing him as “the man in the red hat”. Another car passed and honked (鸣喇叭). At first confused, Joseph soon caught on, happily waving back at the third car that greeted him. Observing this heartwarming exchange, Grandpa and Michael couldn’t help but smile, realizing Grandpa’s simple action worked wonders. Paragraph 1: A week later, a birthday party was thrown for Grandpa. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: After the party, Michael and two men in red hats began their daily walk. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 A week later, a birthday party was thrown for Grandpa. When the doorbell rang unexpectedly, Michael opened the door to find Joseph standing there, wearing a new red hat and holding a small gift. “Happy birthday, David,” Joseph said warmly, his eyes sparkling — a stark contrast to his grumpy demeanor before. Grandpa embraced him joyfully, introducing Joseph as his special guest. As Joseph joined the celebration, he shared stories with other guests, his laughter filling the room. Michael watched in awe, realizing how Grandpa’s simple act of kindness had melted Joseph’s loneliness, turning a stranger into a friend. After the party, Michael and two men in red hats began their daily walk. Grandpa and Joseph waved cheerfully at passing cars, while Michael, now wearing a small red hat of his own, eagerly joined in. Drivers honked and waved back, recognizing the trio with bright smiles. When they met a frowning neighbor, Joseph stopped and offered a friendly greeting. To Michael’s surprise, the neighbor paused, then tentatively waved back. As they continued, Michael whispered to Grandpa, “Kindness is like a red hat — everyone notices it.” Grandpa chuckled, patting his shoulder, “And now, you’re passing it on.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①拥抱:embrace/hug ②敬畏地看着:watch in awe/stare in admiration ③低声说:whisper/speak in a low voice 情绪类 ①喜悦地:joyfully/delightedly ②惊讶:surprise/amazement/astonishment 【点睛】【高分句型1】When the doorbell rang unexpectedly, Michael opened the door to find Joseph standing there, wearing a new red hat and holding a small gift. C Sometimes a little modern technology can help turn up an ancient treasure—even if that technology is nothing more than a computer screen and a simple web search. A. To introduce an unintended discovery. B. To stress the significance of astrolabes. C. To share Gigante’s job responsibilities. D. To fan readers’ curiosity about Italian culture. D A photo taken in January 2023 shows a pack of wolves after they killed a moose (驼鹿) at Michigan’s Isle Royale National Park. C. It helps to protect moose from being killed. D. Its data comes from observations made each winter. 14. Which statement will Proescholdt probably agree with? A. The park has little regard for the law. B. Humans maintain the balance of nature. C. Nature determines the future of species. D. Grey wolves are an endangered species. 15 What is a suitable title for the text? A. Should we save Isle Royale National Park? B. How did two wolves impact an ecosystem? C. Grey wolves’ recovery helped a park’s ecosystem D. The hands-off way to control parks pays off 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) A porcelain (瓷器) painter is also called a china painter or decorator.
