closed. Relaxing music plays softly. In the kitchen, cookers and other tools have
cooking plans, making it easier than ever to cook like a master cook. They are all
powered by Huawei’s self-developed operating system Harmony OS with 5G and AI
wireless technologies. By simply touching phones for once, all connections are built.
However, before this creative system, traditional smart home products are not as
smart as they should be. Su Ying, living in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, has more
than 50 smart products in his home. “Though I can use an app to turn off the lights in

One day, a businessman called Guo from Fujian province received a WeChat
video call from a “friend” who asked him to transfer money. After verifying (验证)
the face and the voice of his “friend” with a video call, he transferred money.
It turned out to be a fraud (诈骗), however. The scammer (诈骗者) used artificial
intelligence (AI) to make a person look and sound like Guo’s real-life friend. Guo was
scammed out of 4.3 million yuan in only 10 minutes.
The suit has raised heated discussions on AI fraud. In today’s world of AI, voices,
images and videos are all likely to be deeply synthesized (合成 ). And some people
use it for cheating purposes. People who are not aware of scammers, such as children
and seniors, are especially in danger of such high-tech fraud.
AI fraud is harder for people to identify. People have to be more aware of
personal information protection. Don’t be so quick to give out images of faces and
fingerprints to strangers.
Teenagers should particularly be careful when using social media accounts and
logging in (登录 ) to video games to prevent their private information from being

A solar eclipse(日食) is a wonderful thing that happens in space. It happens
when the new moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. When this happens, the
moon blocks some or all of the Sun’s light from reaching the Earth. It’s like the moon
plays hide - and - seek with the Sun! Interestingly, the Sun is 400 times bigger than
the moon, but it’s also 400 times farther away. So, from Earth, the Sun and the moon
look about the same size in the sky.
There are four kinds of solar eclipses. In a total eclipse, the moon covers the Sun
completely. It gets dark outside, just like it’s night. You can even see some stars! A
partial eclipse is when only part of the Sun is covered by the moon. The Sun looks
like a crescent shape. An annular(环状的) eclipse is very cool. The moon is too far
to cover the Sun fully, so a bright ring of sunlight, called a “ring of fire,” shows
around the moon. A hybrid eclipse is a mix of total and annular. Different places on
Earth will see different types during this eclipse.
九年级 英语 第 9 页 共 12 页
Scientists can tell when a solar eclipse will happen. But we don’t see solar
eclipses every month. This is because the moon’s path around the Earth is tilted. It
doesn’t always line up just right with the Earth and the Sun.
Here’s something very important: Never look at the Sun directly during a solar
eclipse! It can hurt your eyes badly. You should use special eclipse glasses. These
glasses are made to protect your eyes from the Sun’s strong light. Another safe way is
to use a pinhole viewer. It projects an image of the Sun so you can watch the eclipse
without harming your eyes.
61. When does a solar eclipse take place?
A. When the full moon is between the Earth and the Sun
B. When the new moon comes between the Earth and the Sun
C. When the Earth is between the Sun and the moon
D. When the Sun is between the Earth and the moon
62. Why do the Sun and the moon seem the same size in the sky?
A. Because the Sun is 400 times smaller and nearer than the moon
B. Because the Sun is 400 times smaller and farther than the moon
C. Because the Sun is 400 times bigger and nearer than the moon
D. Because the Sun is 400 times bigger and farther than the moon
63. What does the underlined word “it ”refer to ?
A. the sun B. the moon C. the earth D. the path
64. From the passage, we can infer that ______.
A. solar eclipses are easy to observe without any tools
B. total solar eclipses cause the most changes in the environment
C. annular eclipses happen more often than other eclipses
D. hybrid eclipses are the easiest to predict
65. What is the best title for the passage?
A. How to Watch Solar Eclipses
B. The Sun and the Moon
C. Kinds of Solar Eclipses
D. Solar Eclipses: A Space Wonder
