Young Helpers in Shaoyang: Students Join in Rice-planting for Farmers
In April, hundreds of middle school students from Shaoyang took part in an exciting and meaningful activity—helping farmers with rice-planting. The activity was organized to let students understand the value of food and the hard work of farmers.
When the students arrived at the farmland (农田), they were welcomed by the farmers with warm smiles. The farmers first showed them how to plant rice seedlings (插秧) correctly. They taught the students to hold the seedlings in the right way and plant them evenly in the paddy (水田) fields. The students listened carefully and then rolled up their sleeves and trousers, ready to get their hands dirty.
At first, many students found it difficult to keep their balance in the soft mud, and some even fell down. But they didn’t give up.
