Managing the family budget must have been hard, but mom made it look effortless. My brothers and I had to earn our allowance by doing housework. We also had to keep track of our belongings, and if something was lost, it was not replaced.
It was summer and, one day, my mother drove me to the bike shop to get a tire fixed — and there it was in the window. White, shiny, plastic and decorated with flowers, the basket winked at me and I knew — I knew — I had to have it.
“It’s beautiful,” my mother said. “What a neat basket,”
I tried to hold off at first. I played it cool for a short while. But then I guess I couldn’t stand it any longer, “Mom, please can I get it? I’ll do what you say. I love that basket. Please, Mom, Please?” “You know,” she said, gently petting my back while we both stared at what I believed was the coolest thing ever, “If you save up, you could buy this yourself.”
I was desperate. “By the time I make enough it’ll be gone!”
“There might be another way.”
And so our paying plan unfolded. My mother bought the beautiful basket and put it safely in some hiding place I couldn’t find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing savings increased by extra work that washing the car, helping my mother make dinner, delivering or collecting things on my bike that already looked naked without the basket in front. And then, weeks later, I counted, re-counted and jumped for joy. I made it!
Days later the unexpected happened. A neighborhood girl I’d played appeared with the same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster.
And then came the lesson I’ve taken with me through my life: “Honey, your basket is extra-special,” Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. “Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself.”
4. What can we learn from the paragraphs?
A. The writer got trained by doing housework.
B. Managing family budget was hard but worth.
C. Doing housework helped earn a dreaming basket.
D. The mother raised her children in an unusual way.
5. What does the underlined word “naked” in the paragraph7 refer to?
A. empty B. delicate C. strange D. simple
6. To the author, it seemed to be a horrible turn of events that ____________.

C. the basket cost more than she had offered D. someone else had got a basket of the same kind
7. What is the life lesson the author learned from her mother?
A. Save money for a rainy day. B. Good advice is beyond all price.
C. Earn your bread with your sweat. D. God helps those who help themselves.
D 5. A 6. D 7. C
根据第一段“My brothers and I had to earn our allowance by doing housework. We also had to keep track of our belongings, and if something was lost, it was not replaced.(我和哥哥们得通过做家务来挣取零花钱。我们还得留意自己的物品,一旦丢失就无法补回)”以及下文举例讲述母亲告诉作者通过做家务来“购买”篮子的经历可知,母亲以一种不寻常的方式养育孩子。故选D。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据划线词及后文“without the basket in front(没有前面的篮子)”可知,没有篮子的自行车看起来“空空的”。故划线词意思是“空的”。故选A。
根据倒数第二段“A neighborhood girl I’d played appeared with the same basket fixed to her shiny, new bike. I rode hard and fast home to tell my mother about this disaster.(一个和我一起玩过的邻家女孩出现了,她那辆闪闪发亮的新自行车上也装着同样的篮子。我拼命地飞快骑回家,把这个“灾难”告诉了妈妈)”可知,对于作者而言,这件事的发展过程实在令人感到惊恐不已——别人有了同款篮子。故选D。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段““Honey, your basket is extra-special,” Mom said, gently wiping away my hot tears. “Your basket is special because you paid for it yourself.”(“亲爱的,你的篮子很特别啊,”妈妈轻声说道,一边温柔地擦去我滚烫的泪水。“你的篮子之所以特别,是因为是你自己花钱买的。”)”可知,作者从妈妈那里学到的人生教训是自己通过努力(汗水)赚钱得到的东西是特别的,即“Earn your bread with your sweat.(用汗水挣得你的面包)。故选C。
C
As the awards season approaches, students and teachers will gather to celebrate academic performance, citizenship, leadership and extracurricular (课外的) excellence. Schools bill these awards as a way to recognize students’ achievements. But are they a good idea?
The philosophy behind these awards is to solidify positive behaviors and encourage students to excel. This concept is rooted in behaviourism to education, a psychological theory that suggests external rewards can shape behavior. But such rewards do not necessarily lead to lasting engagement. Once the desire for reward fade, the behavior often doesn’t stick.
Research has also shown awards can sometimes do more harm than good. When students focus on earning an award rather than enjoying the activity, their motivation shifts from internal to external. This means they might participate only for the sake of the award, rather than for the joy of learning or personal growth. A US study of school-aged children found that those who said “I ask questions in class because I want to learn new things” achieved higher academic than those who said “I like school subjects where it’s pretty easy to just learn the answers”.
Beyond affecting motivation, awards can also lead children to grow dependent on external recognition. When kids get used to seeking approval through awards, they may struggle to find self-worth in their own efforts.
For the kids who don’t receive awards, they may feel inadequate or discouraged, especially if the same few children are always celebrated. This situation can create a fixed mindset where kids think their abilities can’t change or progress, as opposed to a growth mindset where students firmly believe they can become better through hard work, good strategies and help from others.
This is not to say schools should never give students awards. For parents and educators, whether kids receive an award or not, there are always alternatives to talk about t their achievements at the end of the school year.
8. What is suggested about the impact of awards in Paragraph 2?
A. Temporary. B. Motivating.
C. Overestimated. D. Transformative.
9. How do awards negatively affect students’ academic performance?
A. They create overconfidence in students.
B. They weaken students’ internal motivation.
C. They mislead students in problem-solving.
D. They discourage students from seeking answers.
10. What distinguishes a growth mindset from a fixed one?
A. Faith in self-improvement.
B. Good academic performance.
C. Preference for external approval.
D. Active classroom engagement.
11. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs?
A. Why schools refuse to give up awards.
B. How to encourage kids beyond awards.
C. Why schools seek alternatives to awards.
D. How to teach kids self-worth without awards.
A 9. B 10. A 11. B
根据第二段中“The philosophy behind these awards is to solidify positive behaviors and encourage students to excel.(这些奖项背后的理念是巩固积极的行为,鼓励学生超越)”和“But such rewards do not necessarily lead to lasting engagement. Once the desire for reward fade, the behavior often doesn’t stick.(但这样的奖励并不一定会带来持久的参与。 故选A。
根据第三段中“When students focus on earning an award rather than enjoying the activity, their motivation shifts from internal to external. This means they might participate only for the sake of the award, rather than for the joy of learning or personal growth.(当学生专注于获得奖励而不是享受活动时,他们的动机就会从内部转移到外部。这意味着他们可能只是为了奖励而参加,而不是为了学习或个人成长的乐趣)”可知,奖励可能会让学生更关注外部奖励而非学习本身,导致他们的动机从内部转移到外部,并且意味着他们可能只是为了奖励而参加,而不是为了学习或个人成长的乐趣,也就是说,奖励会削弱学生的内在学习动力。故选B。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段中“This situation can create a fixed mindset where kids think their abilities can’t change or progress, as opposed to a growth mindset where students firmly believe they can become better through hard work, good strategies and help from others.(这种情况会造成一种固定思维,孩子们认为他们的能力不会改变或进步,而不是成长型思维,学生们坚信他们可以通过努力工作,好的策略和他人的帮助变得更好)”可知,固定思维(fixed mindset)的人认为自己的能力是固定的,无法改变,而成长型思维(growth mindset)的人则相信通过努力、策略和帮助可以进步。 故选A。
最后一段中“For parents and educators, whether kids receive an award or not, there are always alternatives to talk about t their achievements at the end of the school year.(对于家长和教育者来说,无论孩子是否获得奖励,在学年结束时总是有其他的选择来谈论他们的成就)”提到,无论孩子是否获得奖励,在学年结束时总是有其他的选择来谈论他们的成就,这表明接下来的内容可能会讨论如何在没有奖励的情况下鼓励孩子。 A. Why schools refuse to give up awards,文章没有暗示学校抗拒放弃奖励;对于选项C. D. How to teach kids self-worth without awards,这里涉及的自我价值,解读前文后可发现,其范围较窄。故选B。
D
In the rich countries of the West, the electric vehicle revolution is well underway. Climate-conscious consumers drive Teslas or Polestars for reasons of morality and fashion. Poorer countries are also experiencing a wave of electrified trend. In Bangladesh, electric three-wheeler taxis, known as tuk-tuks, are rapidly replacing gas-powered ones on the streets. Such electric vehicles are climate friendly, cost-effective, and help reduce air pollution.
Yet a glance under the hood (引擎盖) of these vehicles reveals a poisonous secret: each tuk-tuk runs on five massive lead-acid batteries (铅酸电池), containing almost 300 pounds of lead in total. Every year and a half or so, when those batteries need to be replaced and recycled, about 60 pounds of lead leak into the environment. Battery recycling, often at small-scale unregulated factories, is a highly profitable but deadly business.
Lead is dangerous, and any exposure to it is harmful to human health. Lead that has entered the environment hurts people on an extraordinary scale. The numerous ways lead enters air, water, soil, and homes across the developing world — and the enormous damage it does to human health, wealth, and welfare — causes one of the biggest environmental crises in the world yet receives little attention.
The World Bank estimates that lead kills 5.5 million people per year, which would make it a bigger global killer than AIDS, malaria, diabetes, and road traffic deaths combined. On top of the shocking deaths, the social burden of lead poisoning is extraordinary, as is its contribution to global inequality — our research on the cognitive (认知的) effects of lead poisoning suggests that it may explain about one-fifth of the educational achievement gap between rich and poor countries.
But unlike many challenges faced by developing countries, lead poisoning is a problem that is fixable with some attention and a relatively modest financial investment. Better monitoring, research, and rules can help protect children all over the world from the dreadful effects of lead poisoning and reduce the massive global costs it brings.
12. How does the author describe the lead problem in paragraph 2?
A. By making a comparison. B. By analyzing hidden causes.
C. By listing convincing numbers. D. By explaining its working principle.
13. What can we learn from the text?
A. Lead enters rich countries in various ways.
B. Lead poisoning may make poor societies poorer.
C. Exposure to lead doesn’t necessarily harm someone.
D. Lead leaking has caused great fear in rich and poor countries.
14. What can be done to solve lead poisoning in developing countries?
A. Fixing these used batteries. B. Putting certain effort and money.
C. Prohibiting the illegal use of lead. D. Reducing the cost of recycling lead.
15. What’s the text mainly about?
A. The global lead poisoning crisis. B. The ways to solve lead problems.
C. The outcomes of using electric vehicles. D. The impacts of lead poisoning on human health.
C 13. B 14. B 15. A

根据最后一段“But unlike many challenges faced by developing countries, lead poisoning is a problem that is fixable with some attention and a relatively modest financial investment. Better monitoring, research, and rules can help protect children all over the world from the dreadful effects of lead poisoning and reduce the massive global costs it brings.(但是,与发展中国家面临的许多挑战不同,铅中毒是一个可以通过一些关注和相对适度的财政投资来解决的问题。更好的监测、研究和规则可以帮助保护世界各地的儿童免受铅中毒的可怕影响,并减少其带来的巨大全球成本)”可知,发展中国家可以通过一些关注和相对适度的财政投资,进行更好的监测、研究以及制定规则来解决铅污染和铅中毒问题;由此可知,发展中国家可以通过投入一定的努力和金钱解决铅中毒问题。故选B。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段中“In the rich countries of the West, the electric vehicle revolution is well underway. Climate-conscious consumers drive Teslas or Polestars for reasons of morality and fashion. 【答案】
My Views on the Use of AI Assistants in Learning
Recently, an increasing number of students in our class have started using AI assistants for learning tasks. While this may seem efficient, it raises concerns about its long-term impact on learning quality.
Although AI assistants can provide helpful support, over-reliance on them may limit students’ ability to think critically and solve problems independently. When students skip the process of exploring and understanding on their own, their knowledge tends to remain shallow. To address this, I suggest that AI should be used as a supportive tool rather than a primary resource. By using it wisely and only when needed, students can benefit from its help while still developing essential thinking skills.
In conclusion, balancing AI use with active learning is the key to making it truly beneficial.

Esmee Russell, head of the Stroke Association, said, “A stroke can happen to anyone, at any age, at any time. That’s why it’s so important that people know how to act fast: it could save a life.” Strokes happen when the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off by a clot (凝块), or damaged by bleeding that causes brain cells in the affected area to die.
Opokua Kwapong, who lives alone in New York, was on a call with her sister, Adumea Sapong, in Manchester, when Mrs Sapong noticed that her elder sister “didn’t look right”. And she also noticed her sister’s voice was slurred Ms Kwapong said she had not realised how serious the situation was.
The 58-year-old Kwapong had woken from an afternoon sleep when Mrs Sapong called her on Face Time. Ms Kwapong said “My sister looked at me and said she could see that my face didn’t look right. She also said that I was slurring my words, but I thought she was making a fuss (大惊小怪) and I didn’t believe her.”
Mrs Sapong said When I called Kwapong, she said that she'd not been feeling well and had been feeling tired and was also having some difficulty walking. I said, ‘Perhaps you need to take some medicine.’ She tried to pick up a glass of water and wasn’t able to. Then I noticed on the Face Time video call that her face was drooping. I told her she needed to hang up and immediately see a doctor. She thought I was making a fuss so I then called one of my other sisters, who is a doctor, and she could hear her speaking and could also tell that her speech was slurred.
A The writer got trained by doing housework.
B. Managing family budget was hard but worth.

5. What does the underlined word “naked” in the paragraph7 refer to?

6. To the author, it seemed to be a horrible turn of events that ____________.
A. her paying plan was spoiled B. a neighborhood girl bought a nicer bike
C. the basket cost more than she had offered D. someone else had got a basket of the same kind
7. What is the life lesson the author learned from her mother?
A. Save money for a rainy day. B. Good advice is beyond all price.
C. Earn your bread with your sweat. D. God helps those who help themselves.

D. Active classroom engagement.
11. What will probably be discussed in the following paragraphs?

14 What can be done to solve lead poisoning in developing countries?

Every year, more and more people decide to spend the night in one of the U. S.’s national parks. ___16___ According to a report, from 2014 to 2924, the number of “active camping households” has increased by 68%.
However, camping is not always easy, and recently, people have faced difficulties with reservations. ___17___ An official website states there are a few things people can do to increase their chances of booking their dream site.
First, visitors need to be aware of when the camping dates they want to reserve will become available, as some sites open their reservations six months in advance. Second, you should get comfortable with the website to avoid wasting time. Ensure you have an account. ___18___ You may also have to be willing to book two different sites for the same area to ensure you get your chosen dates.
___19___ Check the campground’s “Seasons and Fees”, and log in before the sales begin. Bring up the campground page, add your dates, be ready to select an available campsite, and “Add to Cart” the moment they are released for sale. Once in your cart, you will have 15 minutes to complete your reservation. Keep in mind that some sites allow walk-ins, even though, in most cases, you will still have to reserve those on the same day, operating on a first-come, first-served service.
There are plenty of national parks in the USA where you can reserve a camping adventure, yet this process is becoming increasingly difficult. To change this situation, those who cancel their reservations or do not show up will be fined. ___20___

A woman who had a stroke (中风) while on a Face Time video call with her sister, said the technology saved her life.
We both told her to call for help at once.”
