It sounds too good to be true, but scientists have started using artificial intelligence (Al) to help communicate with animals. AI allows humans to use technology to watch and understand the sounds and signals (信号) animals use so we can try to speak back to them. Professor Karen Bakker said that AI is already helping humans communicate with bats (蝙蝠) and bees. This could change what we know about nature and our non-human relationships. Bakker said AI helped decode (解码) recordings of animals talking to one another. She said trying to communicate in their language could be better than to teach them to use human sign language. Bakker explained how scientist Yossi Yoyel had used recordings and Al to understand bats. “Bats argue over food; they communicate differently between genders (性别) they have their names, or ‘signature calls’,” she said. “But unlike human mothers raise their voices when talking to babies, mother bats lower the voice.” A computer can be trained to listen like a bat, but this can never be done with the human ear. With bees, the computer both listens and watches the bees’ body movement to understand what they are communicating. “When bees ‘speak’ to one another, they use body movements, as well as the sounds, to communicate,” Bakker said. She said scientists now know how bees say things such as “hush (be quiet)” or “stop”. Scientist Tim Landgraf even created a robot bee that entered a hive (蜂巢) and it was able to communicate to other bees when it wanted them to stop doing something or fly. So, are you looking forward to communicating with animals one day? 11 How does the writer start the passage? A. By telling a story. B. By explaining a fact. C. By asking a question. D. By giving an example. 12. Why does the writer mention bats and bees? A. To give a direction of the future study. B. To doubt the findings scientist have reported. C. To show the achievements scientists have got. D. To change people’s opinions about the two animals. 13. What is the fifth paragraph mainly about? A. Scientists’ ways of communicating with bats. B. Scientists’ findings about communication between bats through AI. C. Differences between bats and humans in communication. D. Advantages of communicating with animals in their language. 14. Which of the following is TRUE? A. Bees mostly use sound to communicate with others. B. Bees’ body movements are very difficult to understand. C. Scientists have already understood a bit of bees’ language. D. Scientists have made a real bee to communicate with other bees. 15. Where can you probably find this text? A. In a fashion magazine. B. However, they can also be a problem, especially fossil fuel (化石燃料) cars, which cause air pollution. It is widely believed that clean energy and improved fuel technologies can greatly reduce air pollution caused by gas-fueled cars. To improve the environment, many countries are developing electric vehicles (EVs,电动车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world’s largest EV market. In 2023, about 14 million EVs were sold worldwide. The number of EVs sold in China was more than 9 million-about three times as large as the number sold in the United States. Chinese drivers are already big fans of EVs. “Charging (充电) an electric car is cheaper than filling up a fossil fuel car with gas,” said Mr. Wu, who bought an electric car this year. However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging stations and the cars can’t go far before needing to be recharged. Some of these problems are being solved. There are more and more charging stations in China. Now China has the world’s largest EV charging network, with more than 8, 596, 000 charging stations in total. “Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to reduce pressure on the environment. As China goes, so will the world’s auto industry”, said The Wall Street Journal. Electric vehicles are really a smart choice for the environment. 16. Where is this passage most probably from? A. You know you can sell millions of them, but first of all, you must give the product a name—a brand name. And that may not be as easy as you think. The brand name is the thing that makes your product stand out from all the others. Businesses spend a lot of time thinking about brand names; when the name has been picked, it’s very difficult to change, so companies have to get it right first time. So how do you choose a name? A brand name should be special, memorable and easy to understand. It should create some kind of emotional connection with people who buy the product—the target (目标) market. Some companies use the family name. When Henry Ford started making cars, he just called the company Ford. Some companies use wordplay. It’s a common way for naming apps, for example WhatsApp (from the English expression What’s up? As they pronounce similarly). But what do you have to be careful about? Well, you shouldn’t choose a name that may not work in certain countries or cultures. Many years ago, a car company produced a new car that they called Nova. They thought it suggested something nice and new, but in Spanish it can be read as no va (“it doesn’t go”). Not a good name for a car in Spain! These days, the choice of brand name is quite important if your product is aimed at teenage market. A teacher in an American high school said, “Teenagers won’t buy something that’s almost the same or cheaper—simply because they feel they must wear something with the right logo.” Companies know that the name isn’t everything—the product itself has to be good, of course—it is the most important part of the whole package. Theme Brand Names Importance • Brand name will make your product stand out from all the others. • It’s not ____46____ to change once it is picked. • Special. ____47____ for a brand name • memorable • Easy to understand. • Use wordplay: e.g.words that share the similar ____48____. Ways  to choose a brand name • Pay attention to ____49____. • For teenagers, a brand name should stay away from copying other brands. Conclusion • The product itself plays the most ____50____ role no matter how perfect the brand name is. 【答案】46. easy 47. Requirements 48. pronunciation 49. cultural differences 50. important 【解析】 【导语】本文主要介绍了公司选择品牌名字的过程,最后强调产品名字不是一切,产品本身好才是最重要的。 【46题详解】 根据“when the name has been picked, it’s very difficult to change”可知,品牌名字一旦被选中,就不容易改变。故填easy。 【47题详解】 根据“A brand name should be special, memorable and easy to understand.”可知,一个品牌的名字应该是特别的、容易记住的、容易理解的,此处说的是公司选择品牌名字的要求。故填Requirements。 【48题详解】 根据“from the English expression What’s up? Have you ever imagined being able to communicate with your pet at home and let them understand everything you say? 11. How does the writer start the passage? A. By telling a story. B. By explaining a fact. C. By asking a question. D. In a guidebook. C. In a business newspaper. D. In a science book. Cars make our lives convenient and many people can’t live without them. A. Many parents put a computer mouse, a coloured pen, a CD or a violin in front of ____43____ (they) babies. These things stand for modern jobs. Today’s items at the Zhuazhou ceremony are different ____44____ those before, but a family’s good ____45____ (wish) for a baby are always the same—to have a bright future. 四. 任务型阅读(共10分) OK, so imagine you’ve thought of a product to make and sell—a game, or an app, or some clothes for example. 五. 书面表达(共25分) 51. 学校英文社团将面向九年级学生举办主题为“The person who has influenced me the most ”的征文活动。请根据以下提示,写一篇征文,介绍对你影响最大的人及你从他/她身上学到的东西。 Who is the person?
