Have you ever noticed how differently people from different countries deal with rainy days?

In China, people love umbrellas not only because they keep them dry but also because they add a touch of color to such days. Kids love umbrellas even more, and they are happy to pick out their favorite designs, from cartoon characters to flowery styles, making rainy days exciting experience. This practicality has led to a huge umbrella market in the country, with various styles, colors, and sizes to choose from.
Now, let’s fly over to some Western countries. Here, you might find something interesting: People aren’t used to carrying umbrellas. Instead, they might put on their hats, jackets, or rush on rainy days. And many people believe that getting a little wet is also a different feeling. However, don’t be surprised if you see umbrellas in Western countries too. In the UK, the umbrella is a symbol of preparedness. With its changeable weather, from bright sunshine to sudden downpours, the British have learned to always have an umbrella at hand. It is considered polite to offer an umbrella to someone in need during rainy days.
Whether to take an umbrella or not is more about cultural habits and lifestyle choices. It’s all about how we choose to enjoy life. So, the next time it rains, why not try something new? Reach for an umbrella and stroll (闲逛) through the street, or jump in puddles (水坑) and play in the rain. Either way, it’s sure to be a wonderful experience.

AI-powered speech translation (人工智能语音翻译) is nothing new nowadays. The working step is to record speech, change it into text, translate that into another language, and change it back to speech. ___46___
Usually, some official languages, like English or French, can be easily translated. Many other kinds of languages can’t be recorded by the system in advance. ___47___ After all, we note that about 3,000 languages in the world only have spoken forms. A new open-source system that can translate speech from one language into another in real time can solve this problem.
With the help of technology, communication can be much easier. The new system is hoped to be used to improve communication in both the real world and the virtual (虚拟的) world. So far, the system is only able to provide easy translations between English and Hokkien. Hokkien is another name for the Minnan language. ___48___ The system uses several ways to perform this task, including translating speech into acoustics (声学) and then forming wave forms from it.
Next, AI models will be trained by using Standard Chinese text as a translator between English and Hokkien. ___49___ According to a researcher, however, this is just the first step toward making real-time translation between languages and reality in the future.
___50___ Only by breaking down language difficulties, such AI technology will hopefully lead to greater understanding among speakers of different languages.

Healthy Mind, Shining Kind
True health encompasses not only physical fitness but also a warm-hearted and helpful attitude.
Last week, I encountered a classmate named Tom who was struggling with a difficult math problem. Knowing how frustrating it could be to be stuck, I decided to offer help. I sat beside him and patiently explained the concepts step by step, using examples that I thought would make it easier for him to understand. As we worked through the problem together, his confused expression gradually faded away.
Through this experience, I realized that a healthy mind is closely linked to kindness. When we reach out to others with a helping hand, we not only assist them in solving problems but also build a positive connection. Each act of kindness is like a ray of sunshine, brightening both our own and others’ days. I firmly believe that if we all embrace kindness, our school and our lives will be filled with more love and warmth.
