Lead-in (3 minutes): Show a world map with marked high mountains and ask, “Which mountain is the most famous? Why?” Then, display pictures of climbers on mountain peaks and say, “Climbing the highest mountain is a unique adventure. Let’s explore Qomolangma.”. 2. Pre-reading(10 minutes): Show a short video about the scenery and climbing of Qomolangma. Ask students: “What do you think of climbing the highest mountain in the world? What difficulties might climbers face?” Lead students to discuss and share their ideas. 3. While-reading(20 minutes): Skimming: Students quickly read the passage and answer the question: “What is the main idea of the passage?” Guide students to grasp the overall theme. Scanning: Let students read the passage again and complete a table with information about the height of Qomolangma, its special features, the challenges climbers face, and the achievements of climbers. Then check the answers. Intensive reading: Analyze difficult sentences, such as “One of the main reasons is that people want to challenge themselves in the face of difficulties.” Explain sentence structures and language points, and help students understand the context. 4. Post-reading (10 minutes): Group discussion: Divide students into groups. Pose the question: “Is it worth risking lives to climb high mountains? Why or why not?” Each group discusses and records their viewpoints, then presents to the class. Writing practice: Ask students to write a short summary of the passage, including the most impressive facts and their own understanding of mountaineering spirit. 5.
