One evening, Helen was sitting around in the garden when she heard a loud noise. At first, she thought something had fallen from her newly repaired house. But as she walked to the front, she saw a small crowd gathered on the sidewalk outside.
When she walked towards the crowd, she saw a man lying in a pool of blood near a broken motorbike. His leg was almost cut off at the knee. Luckily, when Helen asked how he was doing, the young man could still talk, even though he was in great pain. Helen knew some knowledge about first aid and had taken a first aid course with the British Red Cross. She used her skills to quickly check the situation. Then she ran back to her house to get some thick towels to stop the bleeding (流血).
When Helen came back with the towels, someone in the crowd had called an ambulance, but the young man was still bleeding heavily. “When I returned, I noticed that others were afraid to come to the front to help. I tried my best to use the towel to press on the wound until the ambulance arrived.” Helen recalled. Then she managed to stop the bleeding and comforted the young man while they waited for help to arrive. Soon, the ambulance team showed up.
Unluckily, the doctors couldn’t save the man’s leg, but they did save his life and Helen’s actions played a key role. Without the simple but effective first aid skills Helen used, the outcome of the accident could have been far worse.
“Knowing first aid gave me the confidence to assess the situation, stay calm, and most importantly, to step in and help in an emergency situation when others wouldn’t. I feel so glad that my first aid knowledge helped me save a stranger’s life,” Helen said.

Many scientists once believed that physical (身体的) similarities between identical twins are genetic (基因的), while their personalities, intelligence (智力) and other differences between them are an effect (作用) of their environment. Now scientists are discovering that the boundaries between genes and environment are not so clear.
Twins Jim Springer and Jim Lewis were adopted (领养) as babies and raised by different couples. When the Jims finally met at age 39, they discovered they had plenty in common. Both were six feet tall, 180 pounds. They had the same smile and the same voice. When scientist Thomas Bouchard Jr. invited the Jim twins to his lab, people there found it very hard to tell them apart.
But the similarities didn’t stop at the physical. They’d both had dogs named Toy. They had both married women named Linda and then their marriage broke up. They’d both been policemen, enjoyed music, and left love notes around the house for their wives. They had so much in common, and it seemed impossible that these were just coincidences (巧合).
The Jim twins were just one of 137 sets of separated twins Bouchard tested. When they compared the twins’ IQ scores, Bouchard and his team reached a surprising conclusion. They concluded (断定) that intelligence was mostly connected to genes rather than to training or education. It seemed the differences in family and environment had little effect.
However, genes can’t control everything, argues geneticist Danielle Reed, who also studies twins. Reed’s research shows that though nothing can truly change our DNA, environmental differences that a child experiences before birth and in their first year can sometimes affect the way the DNA behaves, making even identical twins into very different people. “What I like to say is that Mother Nature writes some things in pencil and some things in pen,” She explains. “Things written in pen you can’t change. That’s DNA.But things written in pencil you can.”
27.How many physical similarities between the Jim twins are mentioned?
A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five.
28.What did Bouchard’s study find about the twins?
A.Each seemed to be as tall as their twin.
B.Each had the same hobby as their twin.
C.Each seemed to be as hardworking as their twin.
D.Each had about the same IQ level as their twin.
29.What is Reed’s opinion about genes and environment?
A.Only DNA has an effect on our development.
B.Environment could possibly change some things about us.
C.There are no boundaries between genes and environment.
D.Environmental differences can always change our DNA.
30.What is the passage mainly about?
A.The differences that affect the way the DNA behaves.
B.The physical and other similarities between the Jim twins.
C.The connection between identical twins’ intelligence and families.
D.The effects of genes and environment on personality and intelligence.
【答案】27.C 28.D 29.B 30.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,通过研究结果说明基因和环境对我们的人格和智力的影响。
27.细节理解题。根据“Both were six feet tall, 180 pounds. They had the same smile and the same voice”可知,两人身高都是六英尺,体重一百八十磅,有着同样的笑容和同样的声音。提及他们4处身体上的相似之处,故选C。
28.推理判断题。根据“When they compared the twins’ IQ scores, Bouchard and his team reached a surprising conclusion. They concluded that intelligence was mostly connected to genes rather than to training or education. ”可知,当他们比较双胞胎的智商分数时,Bouchard和他的团队发现:智力在很大程度上与基因有关,而不是与训练或教育有关。所以他们的智商水平差不多,故选D。
29.推理判断题。根据“Read’s research shows that though nothing can truly change our DNA, environmental differences that a child experiences before birth and in their first year can sometimes affect the way the DNA behaves, making even identical twins into very different people.”可知,Read的研究表明,孩子所经历的环境差异有时会影响DNA的表达,甚至使同卵双胞胎成为非常不同的人。所以环境可能会改变我们的一些东西,故选B。
30.主旨大意题。根据“Now scientists are discovering that the boundaries between genes and environment are not so clear.”和后文具体内容可知,本文通过研究结果说明基因和环境对人格和智力的影响。故选D。

China is making big efforts to help people control their weight and live healthier lives. The government has started a three-year “Weight Management Year” plan from 2024 to 2027 to fight against obesity (肥胖). Obesity can cause serious health problems like diabetes (糖尿病) and heart disease. Here’s what you should know about the new guidelines.
First, it’s important to check your BMI (Body Mass Index) (身体质量指数). For adults, a healthy BMI is between 18.5 and 24. If your BMI is between 24 and 28, you are overweight. ABMI of 28 or more means you are obese. Also, doctors suggest measuring your waist. Men should keep their waist under 90 cm, and women under 85 cm.
Eating well is very important, and exercise is just as important! When it comes to food, choose whole grains like brown rice, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins (瘦蛋白) such as fish, chicken, or beans. Don’t eat fried foods and sugary snacks, and also eat less salt and oil. Interestingly, the guidelines even include fun local dishes-like “stewed fish” from Northeast China or “noodles with chili oil” from the Northwest to make healthy eating tasty and full of local flavor.
For exercise, try to do 150-300 minutes of activities like walking, cycling, or dancing every week, and do strength exercises twice a week. If you sit for a long time while studying, stand up and stretch for 3-5 minutes every hour.
Besides diet (饮食) and exercise, small daily habits can also make a big difference. Teens should sleep 7 hours every night because bad sleep can make you gain weight. Try to eat vegetables first, then meat, and finally rice or bread during a meal to control how much you eat.
Schools and communities are also helping. For example, schools in Shanghai now make sure students exercise for at least two hours every day, and hospitals have “weight clinics” with diet plans, exercise advice, and even traditional Chinese ways like acupuncture (针灸). By 2030, China hopes to slow down the increase of obesity through education and support.
Remember, losing weight isn’t about being perfect— just start with small changes, like drinking water instead of soda or taking the stairs instead of the elevator. With these easy steps, everyone can have a healthier future.
31.What is the main goal of China’s “Weight Management Year” plan?
A.To make traditional Chinese food popular.
B.To teach students how to cook healthy meals.
C.To encourage people to join sports competitions.
D.To control body weight and improve public health.
32.Why does the text mention “stewed fish” from Northeast China?
A.Because it is the unhealthiest dish.
B.Because it is the only dish allowed.
C.To encourage people to visit Northeast China.
D.To show that healthy eating can include tasty local foods.
33.What does the text suggest for people who sit for long hours?
A.Sleep more. B.Eat more snacks.
C.Drink more soda. D.Stand up and stretch every hour.
34.According to the guidelines, which food should people avoid to control weight?
A.Brown rice and fresh vegetables. B.Fish and beans.
C.Fried foods and sugary snacks. D.Stewed fish and noodles with chili oil.
35.What does the text mean by “small daily habits can also make a big difference”?
A.Habits don’t matter for weight control.
B.Only big changes can help with weight loss.
C.You must exercise for hours every day to see results.
D.Tiny changes like drinking water instead of soda can improve health over time.

Tai Chi is a symbol of Chinese culture and is becoming popular around the world. 36 It has more health advantages and special meanings behind it.
One thing that makes Tai Chi popular is its value in health. As you move, you breathe deeply and naturally. 37 Tai Chi is suitable for almost anyone, from healthy people to those who have disease.
What makes Tai Chi even more interesting might be the story behind it. Once a crane (鹤) was hitting a snake, instead of hitting back, the snake quickly avoided each hit, while moving together with the crane, letting it use up all its energy. 38
When you think of Tai Chi, you might think of the famous yin-yang drawing. The world is full of yin and yang: dark and light, soft and hard, male and female, life and death. 39 After a dark night, the sun will rise. Leaves fall in autumn but grow in spring. Everything keeps changing—that’s how we should see the world.
40 For example, if you work too hard and feel tired, you have too much “yang”. So it’s time for you to calm down and get more “yin”. This idea of keeping a healthy balance can be used in almost everything in life. It makes Tai Chi far more than just a Chinese kung fu.
A.It is more than a slow form of exercise.

When we face failure, we must be confident in 48 , draw a useful lesson from it and try our best to finish what we 49 to do already. As a popular saying goes, “Failure is the mother of success.”

(二)阅读短文,并从下面方框的六个句子中选择五个还原到文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。
At a global congress (大会) of the Communist International (共产主义) in July 1921, for the first time ever, a Chinese man made a speech about the communist movement in his country. The man was Zhang Tailei (1898—1927), an early leader of the Communist Party of China (中国共产党) and one of the founders of the Communist Youth League of China (中国共青团).
At only 23 years old, Zhang was the first person to present the Chinese communist movement on a global stage. He met Vladimir Lenin (列宁) and worked as a translator for many foreign delegate (代表). He said, “I want to become thunder to break up the ‘old world’ (愿化作震碎旧世界的惊雷).”
While Zhang was getting support from the international communist movement, another pioneer was digging deep local roots. Deng Zhongxia (1894—1933) was another early leader of the Communist Youth League of China. In his early twenties, about to graduate from Peking University, he was offered a job with the government. A man of action, Deng made speeches on streets and public squares. He went to rural areas and factories, trying to boost (宣扬) patriotism (爱国情怀) among local youth. He also tried to teach about Marxism and communism (马克思和共产主义). He even learned different dialects to better communicate with locals.
