What were their journeys like? SUNDAR PICHAI At the top of the list is Sundar Pichai, the current CEO of Google, who was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, sharing a two-bedroom apartment with his parents and younger brother, and only started having a phone in his house when he was 12. During his time as CBO, Pichai led the launch of Google Chrome, the most used web engine, Google Drive and Google Maps, which are features that have revolutionised modern lifestyle. STEVE JOBS Another well-known individual is the CEO of Pixar and NeXT, and the co-founder and CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs. Undoubtedly, his life can be compared to that of a rollercoaster. He was fired from the company that he co-founded (which later become known as Apple), then he went on to start up two other successful companies, before returning to Apple, where he created the iPhone, the product that many consider to be the most significant invention of this Century. SAL KHAN Then, we have the owner of one of the biggest online education providers, Khan Academy. He may not be as famous as the other two, but his contribution to education deserves as much credit. Using his website, anyone can have unlimited access to educational videos for free, allowing people to gain in-depth knowledge about many subjects without attending a formal course. For this, he is on the list of the 100 most influential people in the world. Their stories will continue to inspire and create new leaders who aspire to attain success regardless of their wealth or circumstances. 21. Who is a perfect example to show “Born poor, one can still succeed.”? A. Sal Khan B. Steve Jobs C. Sundar Pichai D. All of them 22. Why is Steve Jobs’ life like a rollercoaster? A. Because he likes rollercoasters. B. Because his life is full of ups and downs. C. Because he started two other successful companies. D. Because he was fired by the company that he co-founded. 23. What causes Sal Khan to be one of the 100 most influential people in the world? A. He is able to beat all the difficulties he has met. B. He owns one of the biggest online education providers, Khan Academy. C. His website provides people with access to various knowledge free of charge. D. His product is considered to be the most significant invention of this century. B Crowded by defenders, Charlie Villanueva leaps toward the basket. One hand lifts the ball high, and for a moment he seems to hang in the air. Then he hammers the ball through the rim. Slam dunk! His career may look like a slam dunk, being a national champion at the University of Connecticut, and setting beginner records with the Toronto Raptors. However, life wasn’t always easy for him. His success is due to more than his ability to play basketball and he owes much of who he is today to a skin disease called alopecia areata, which is not infectious but is caused by an error in the immune system that triggers germ-fighting cells to attack the body’s own hair-growing cells. Charlie was affected at age 10 and lost all his hair by age 12. This made him a target for bullying, leading him to withdraw and hide under caps and hoods. With the support of his mother, Charlie found refuge in basketball. He channeled his frustrations and stress into motivation, improving his skills to the point where his talent overshadowed his condition. The bullying stopped, and his basketball career took off. All along the way, Charlie has consistently dedicated himself to helping others. Ever since his first year as a new player, he has served as a spokesperson for the National Alopecia Areata Foundation, and went on to establish the Charlie Villanueva Foundation, an organization aimed at supporting families with children suffering from alopecia and stopping all forms of bullying. As the son of immigrants from the Dominican Republic, he has even worked towards ending poverty in that country. Charlie inspires young people to embrace their individuality and have confidence in themselves. “We’re all unique in our own ways,” he says, encouraging them to remember that with dedication and self-belief, any dream is within reach. 24. Why is Charlie’s slam dunk mentioned in Paragraph 1? A. To compare him with other champions. B. To explain how a slam dunk is performed. C. To highlight his skills and achievements. D. To demonstrate a specific moment in a game. 25. What made Charlie avoid his peers? A. An infectious skin disease. B. His average ability to play basketball. C. An error in the immune system. D. His being made fun of. 26. Which of the following best describes Charlie? A. Humble and responsible. B. Strong-willed and helpful. C. Innovative and generous. D. Good-natured and tolerant. 27. What message does the text convey? A. Fortune favors the prepared. B. Actions speak louder than words. C. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. D. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 高一英语 2025-05 第 3 页 共 6 页 C A build-it-yourself solar still(蒸馏器) is one of the best ways to obtain drinking water in areas where the liquid is not readily available. Developed by two doctors in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, it’s an excellent water collector. Unfortunately, you must carry the necessary equipment with you, since it’s all but impossible to find natural substitutes. The only components required, though, are a 5'×5'sheet of clear or slightly milky plastic, six feet of plastic tube, and a container-perhaps just a drinking cup-to catch the water. These pieces can be folded into a neat little pack and fastened on your belt. To construct a working still, use a sharp stick or rock to dig a hole four feet across and three feet deep. Try to make the hole in a damp area to increase the water catcher’s productivity. Place your cup in the deepest part of the hole. Then lay the tube in place so that one end rests all the way in the cup and the rest of the line runs up-and out-the side of the hole. Next, cover the hole with the plastic sheet, securing the edges of the plastic with dirt and weighting the sheet’s center down with a rock. The plastic should now form a cone(圆锥体) with 45-degree-angled sides. The low point of the sheet must be centered directly over, and no more than three inches above, the cup. The solar still works by creating a greenhouse under the plastic. Ground water evaporates (蒸发) and collects on the sheet until small drops of water form, run down the material and fall off into the cup. When the container is full, you can suck the refreshment out through the tube, and won’t have to break down the still every time you need a drink. 28. What do we know about the solar still equipment from the first paragraph? A. It’s delicate. B. It’s expensive. C. It’s complex. D. It’s portable. 29. What does the underlined phrase “the water catcher” in paragraph 2 refer to? A. The tube. B. The still. C. The hole. D. The cup. 30. What’s the last step of constructing a working solar still? A. Dig a hole of a certain size. B. Put the cup in place. C. Weight the sheet’s center down. D. Cover the hole with the plastic sheet. 31. When a solar still works, drops of water come into the cup from ________. A. the plastic tube B. outside the hole C. the open air D. beneath the sheet D We all have people who don’t like us and don’t give us the time of day. Many of them have shown superiority or talked down to us, have criticized us, or have hurt us in a deep way. Why, then, are they the first people we want to tell when we accomplish something big? Or when something good happens in our lives? “A-ha!” we think, “See? I am valuable and worthy. You were wrong about me. Look at me now.” It all gets back to our wiring(脑回路). Our brain prioritizes survival first and everything else second. It creates an inner stream of survival-based thoughts from “Am I good / smart / pretty enough?” to “I really need a snack,” using an automatic thought network called the default(默认)mode network (DMN). The DMN scans the environment for potential threats and focuses on data that suggests we are unsafe. The people who love and support us give us positive feedback. Those comments don’t capture the DMN’s interest. The person who criticizes us? Now he or she has the DMN’s attention. The one who totally rejects us? Let’s get the popcorn. Think about how polite we are to people we don’t like. We are so used to performing social graces that we often dismiss positive feedback coming back to us as courtesy(礼貌), not truth. Negative feedback, on the other hand, can feel like we’re finally hearing what people think. We tend to grasp onto it as some higher truth about who we are and what we should be doing differently when, in reality, it probably has nothing to do with us. People who criticize or blame others often have an overactive DMN that tells them they are doing everything wrong. When they criticize us, they are revealing the negative thoughts and beliefs that consume their own minds. Their DMNs are convinced that they are unsafe in this world, and they are going to spread that unhappiness to anyone and everyone around them. So it’s time to kick the annoying people off the soapboxes in our mind. We have nothing to prove to them. And it’s time to embrace positive feedback from the ones we love, and who love us. They’re not being polite; they’re being honest. Give our DMN a reality check on how great we actually are. 32. What really causes us to share accomplishments with critics first? A. The urge to fight back. B. The desire to prove our worth. C. The need to regain confidence. D. The DMN activated by criticism. 33. What does the author mean by “Let’s get the popcorn.” in Paragraph 2? A. We feel offended and lose interest. B. We turn our attention to other things. C. We need a snack to comfort ourselves. D. We expect something dramatic to happen. 34. What does the article suggest about negative and positive feedback? A. Negative feedback is attention-grabbing and honest. B. Negative feedback actually reflects our lack of security. C. Positive feedback is less readily accepted by the brain. D. Positive feedback is less genuine and easily overlooked. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. Embracing positive feedback. B. Understanding DMN’s secret. C. The impact of negative feedback. D. The importance of self-confidence. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 高一英语 2025-05 第 4 页 共 6 页 E As you leave the Bandhavgarh National Park in India, there is a notice which shows a huge tiger. The notice says, “You may not have seen me, but I have seen you.” There are more than a billion people in India and Indian tigers probably see humans every single day. Tigers can and do kill almost anything they meet in the jungle. However, it is a little strange that attacks on humans are not that frequent. Some people might argue that these attacks were in fact common in the past. But there were far more tigers around in those days. So, to some extent, attacks appear to have been as rare then as they are today. People think it is because of fears, but what exactly are tigers afraid of? Can they really know that we may be even better armed than they are? Surely not. Has the species programmed the experiences of all tigers with humans into its genes to be inherited as instinct? Perhaps. But I think the explanation may be simpler and, in a way, more interesting. I suspect that a tiger’s fear of humans lies in the way he actually observes us visually. Imagine a tiger sees a man who is 1.8 meters tall. A tiger is less than 1 meter tall but he may be up to 3 meters long from head to tail. So when a tiger sees the man face on, it might not be unreasonable for him to assume that the man is 6 meters long. If he met a deer of this size, he might attack the animal by leaping on its back, but when he looks behind the man, he can’t see a back. From the front the man is huge, but looked at from the side he all but disappears. This must be very disturbing. A hunter has to be confident that it can kill its prey, and no one is confident when they are disconcerted. The opposite is true of a squatting human. A squatting human is half the size and presents twice the spread of back, and appears like a medium-sized deer. Many incidents of attacks on people involve villagers bending over to cut grass. The fact that humans stand upright may not just distinguish them from other species, but also help them to survive in an unpredictable environment. 36. As for some people’s opinion on tiger attacks, the author is ________. A. objective B. unconcerned C. supportive D. disapproving 37. Why does the author raise three questions in Paragraph 3? A. To present assumptions. B. To evaluate arguments. C. To question findings. D. To confirm opinions. 38. What does the underlined word “disconcerted” in Paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Confused. B. Annoyed. C. Depressed. D. Surprised. 39. What can we learn from the last two paragraphs? A. It is the genes that cause the tiger’s fear of humans. B. It is hard for a tiger to make out the shape of humans. C. Tigers sense the danger the moment they spot humans. D. Tigers are less confident when facing squatting humans. 第二节(共5 小题;每小题2.5 分,满分12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项 为多余选项。 Tips to help you overcome people-pleasing Considering other people’s feelings and treating them with kindness is something we strive to do. 40 When this happens, people-pleasing has crossed the line from kind and generous to self-abandonment — not being the authentic self because we’re afraid others will disapprove, criticize, or reject us. Here are tips for you to overcome such behaviors.  41 Self-care is a necessity, not a luxury. It’s not something you do if you have time or if you deserve it. Taking care of your emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical needs keeps you healthy. Without it, you’ll get sick, stressed, and irritable. Try putting self-care activities (exercise, socializing, hobbies, etc.) on your calendar to ensure that self-care is a priority.  Not everyone’s opinion matters. One big mistake people-pleasers make is acting as if everyone’s opinion matters equally. You don’t differentiate whose opinion matters more. Generally, the closer the relationship, the more you’ll value their opinion and want to please them. Thus, it’s natural to want to do things to make your loved ones happy. 42  Healthy conflict can improve relationships. Most people worry that painful conflicts will destroy relationships. 43 But it’s not helpful or possible. When you avoid conflict, you suppress your feelings and needs. And this causes you to disconnect from yourself and from others. But healthy conflict is the one in which both parties can respectfully express themselves. 44 This is quite different from the unhealthy conflicts. A. Be aware of your inner needs. B. Taking care of yourself isn’t selfish. C. This indicates that we’re People-Pleasers. D. It’s understandable and common to want to avoid them. E. But sacrificing our well-being to make others happy is not. F. However, you don’t need to please acquaintances in the same way. G. It results in greater understanding and ultimately strengthens the relationship. I was in Chicago for a job training when I knew a nearby theatre was releasing a film about saving dogs. Some of my friends had signed up to spend time at a soup kitchen, so I did, too. It seemed like a good thing to do. 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 高一英语 2025-05 第 6 页 共 6 页 I thought that we would just be passing out dinners to those in need, but I found out we would be doing everything from preparing to serving the dinner. We began preparing the food, from mixing salad dressing to separating frozen meat. Much still needed to be done before dinner was served, but already outside the building many homeless people were gathering. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later that we opened the doors and began serving dinner. As the line of people came toward me, I got a little scared. I’d come face to face with the homeless: How should I act? How would they treat me? Would they hate me for having more than they did? While some of the people looked very friendly, some of them looked so dangerous. I didn’t have too much time to worry about it. I was assigned (分配) to serve the salad with the lady next to me. She smiled at me and said if I needed help, she’d be right there, which I found quite comforting. I had never seen so many people wanting food. They were of all ages and nationalities. Most of them wore clothes that were torn and dirty. Some looked like they had given up on life, while others seemed to be making the best of the situation, smiling and joking. Some were better off than others, but they all needed a good meal and a warm place to eat. It saddened me to think of how many people there were who didn’t have a place to call home and the only food they got came from a soup kitchen. 70. While they offer great benefits, their misuse may lead to challenges. On the positive side, generative AI acts as a 24/7 tutor, which can answer questions instantly, explain complex concepts in simple terms, and even generate study materials. However, overreliance on AI may weaken critical thinking. Students might accept AI-generated answers without checking or lose motivation to explore ideas independently. To use generative AI wisely, students should treat AI as a supplementary tool, not a replacement for learning. We are supposed to confirm its responses with reliable sources and combine AI assistance with personal analysis. Most importantly, maintaining intellectual curiosity is a must, with AI inspiring deeper thinking rather than limiting creativity. By balancing AI’s efficiency with human effort, we can unlock its full potential for growth. 听力原文: Text 1 M: Have you done your yesterday’s daily report? W: No, I haven’t.
