Why do people collect things?
Collecting can be a personal hobby. We can also find collections in museums. Let’s learn about some interesting museum collections.
1. What kind of collections can you see at the Eden Project?
2. Why is the titan arum special? What is special about the pitcher plant?

Read the three questions on page 127, and try to find the answers while reading the article.
Interesting collections
1. What kind of collections can you see at the Eden Project?
I can see collections of plants. The collections include food plants and other useful plants, and there is also a collection of exotic plants.
2. Why is the titan arum special? What is special about the pitcher plant?
The titan arum can grow up to 3 metres tall and 1 metre across, and when it flowers, it produces a strong smell to attract insects. The pitcher plant eats insects.
3. Where are the collections in the British Museum from?
They are from different parts of the world: China, Greece, Egypt, Mexico, Italy, etc.
