Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student. So at the start of my freshman year, I had an aversion to math. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to do well, but simply, that I didn’t think I was able to do well. “I can’t” became my state of mind in all things related to math. However, I was soon to learn that “I can’t” was not a choice in Mr. Green’s class. Mr. Green always greeted us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. Green had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. Green ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. Green greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student. I found myself looking forward to math class, although I still hated the subject itself. Being in Mr. Green’s presence made me feel good, as if I had the chance to succeed. As the year progressed, I spent increasingly more time on my homework, and I met with Mr. Green weekly. My classmates began to do the same, and it became “cool” to have lunch and talk with Mr. Green. We didn’t know it at that time, but he was changing our attitudes. Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly. began to climb. There were hard times, of course. Difficult math questions sometimes succeeded in bringing me down, but Mr. Green kept reminding (提醒) me, “Kate, smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” 4. What does the underlined word “aversion” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Dream. B. Dislike. C. Duty. D. Passion. 5. What first made the author look forward to math class? A. Her friends’ encouragement. B. Her interest in math. C. Mr. Green’s attitude. D. The top achievers in her class. 6. How did the author change in math? A. She made slow progress. B. She fell in love with math. C. She became a straight-A math student. D. She became comfortable with hard math. 7. Which of the following can best describe Mr. Green? A. Honest and humorous. B. Strong and friendly. C. Strict and responsible. D. Passionate and active. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据划线词上文“Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. Classes became harder in high school, and I was even further from a math teacher’s dream student.(从中学开始,我就不擅长数学。高中的课程越来越难,我离数学老师理想中的学生更远了)”可知,从中学到高中,作者的数学都不好。结合划线词所在句中“So”可知,划线词所在句与上文之间有因果关系:因为数学一直都不好,所以讨厌数学。故推知,aversion意为“厌恶”,和dislike意思相近。故选B。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“It was clear that Mr. Green had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching.(很明显,格林老师不仅对数学有着真正的热情,而且对教学也有着真诚的热情)”和“Mr. Green greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the ‘I can’t’ student.(他鼓励每一个学生,从最优秀的学生到‘我不能’的学生)”可推知,是格林老师对数学学科和学生的态度让作者期待上数学课。 根据最后一段中“Though my story is not one of overnight success and I didn’t become a straight-A math student, my hard work did begin to pay off and my grades slowly. began to climb. (虽然我的故事不是一鸣惊人的那种故事,我也没有成为一名数学全优的学生,但我的努力确实开始有了回报,我的成绩也开始慢慢攀升)”可知,作者的数学慢慢进步了。故选A。 Green always greeted us with open arms as he said, “Welcome! Smile! It’s a great day to be alive!” It was clear that Mr. Green had a true passion (热情) not only for math but for teaching. If Mr. Green ever experienced bad days in life, he never showed it. Mr. Green greeted us with that same smile every day. He encouraged each student, from the top achiever to the “I can’t” student.(格林先生总是张开双臂欢迎我们,他说:“欢迎!微笑!活着真是太棒了!”很明显,格林先生不仅对数学很有热情,而且对教学也很有热情。即使格林先生在生活中有过不愉快的日子,他也从不表现出来。格林先生每天都以同样的微笑迎接我们。他鼓励每一个学生,从成绩最好的学生到“我不能”的学生)”可知,格林老师对数学学科和教学工作充满激情(passionate),同时,他在生活中对人对事乐观积极(active)。故选D。 C For hundreds of years, America’s wilderness has been reduced due to growing cities, leaving outdoors lovers like hunters with fewer chances. By around 1900, too much hunting drove America’s deer nearly into extinction (灭绝), less than a half-million deer, from 45 million in 1450. Law-makers began to make rules to protect deer and keep ecological balance And it did make a big difference. By 2000, the deer population had come up to 38 million. Those days, millions of deer lived side by side with humans and could freely find enough food resources. Gradually the number of deer was increasing too rapidly, which was not good for both the animals and people. City hunting plays an important role in keeping ecological balance, particularly in places where the animals sometimes cause major problems. “City deer hunting is a management practice used in many cities and suburban areas across the United States,” says Jason Andrews, program manager of the Urban Deer Hunt in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In the early 2000s, a high number of car accidents were caused by deer. And there was also significant vegetation degradation (植被退化) in many cities. Many possible solutions were researched by the city government. Some suggested hunting deer and other wild animals, but others were against that practice. In the end, researchers determined that the most effective and sustainable (可持续的) population management solution would be hunting with bows. “City deer hunting is popular in cities that have too many wild deer as well as wooded areas,” says Andrews. “In Cedar Rapids, all parts of the city have right habitats to keep deer population, thus hunting is allowed. I must note that hunting is only allowed on private lands. No parks or any other public grounds can be hunted.” 8. What can we learn from paragraph 1? A. The deer population was dropping rapidly. B. Some cities grew smaller in the country. C. The number of deer dropped to 1,450. D. The deer population grew up by 45 million. 9. What can we infer about the rules for protecting deer? A. They failed to be carried out in the US. B. They were quite successful. C. People had different attitudes towards them. D. They were made by Jason Andrews. 10. Which tool is the best for deer hunting according to the text? A. Stones. B. Guns. C. Branches. D. Bows. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. Ways to Protect the Environment B. The Number of Deer in the US C. People’s Attitude to Deer Hunting D. America’s Rules for Deer to Keep Ecological Balance 【答案】8. A 9. B 10. D 11. And it did make a big difference. By 2000, the deer population had come up to 38 million. Those days, millions of deer lived side by side with humans and could freely find enough food resources. 根据最后一段中“In the end, researchers determined that the most effective and sustainable (可持续的) population management solution would be hunting with bows.(最后,研究人员确定,最有效和可持续的鹿群管理解决方案将是用弓打猎。)” 根据第二段中“Law-makers began to make rules to protect deer and keep ecological balance (生态平衡). Meet Generation Alpha, the first generation born in the 21st century, exactly between 2010 and 2024. Alphas are expected to be the largest generation in history, with more than two billion members worldwide. They’re growing up in a world where technology is not just a tool, but a necessary part of daily life. The oldest Alphas were born the same year the iPad showed up, giving them the name “iPad Kids”. They are born into a world of artificial intelligence(AI) Even in the classroom, AI is being used to help them in learning. In fact, this is the first generation that is growing up with parents who themselves are digital natives, says scientist Dr. Melissa Bohnert. Alphas were also all born after the introduction of smartphones. This will give them valuable digital skills for the future. This generation will also live a longer life and be more educated. It’s believed that Alphas will live at home until they are older and most likely work longer than past generations did. They will stay at jobs until they are in their late seventies. Members of this generation care about poor people. “Alphas bring a sense of empathy (同理心) because they’re connected globally to the problems of their world,” says social researcher Mark McCrindle. “Moreover, they also worry about the health of the earth.” In a study, 87% of 13—15— year - olds agreed that it’s up to their generation to stop environmental problems from worsening. McCrindle says he sees Alpha as “the beginning of a whole new reality”. Their technological ability and global understanding could help them deal with different challenges in creative ways. With education and guidance they’ll grow up, creating a world where technology and human beings get along well. 12. What is another name for the oldest Generation Alpha members? A. IPad Kids. B. Digital Natives. C. Smartphone Pioneers. D. 21st Century Creators. 13. What do we know about members of Generation Alpha? A. They will prefer working at home. B. They study with the help of AI. C. They are the first to use smartphones. D. They might face fewer job chances. 14. What does Mark McCrindle think of Generation Alpha? A. They are always worried. B. They are addicted to AI. C. She shouted at her brother. “You can’t! What if the owner comes to look for it?” However, John grabbed the phone and ran out of the restaurant quickly. Upon arriving home, John locked his bedroom door with trembling hands. Inside his room, he took out the piece of beauty. He liked it very much and polished it happily. Before sleep, Emily went into John’s bedroom and said. “John, you can’t keep the phone. Your behavior is wrong. And how will you explain the thing to our parents?” John said. “I will say a friend lent it to me.” “You are lying. Oh, dear! When did you turn so dishonest?” said Emily. B Math had never been something I was good at since middle school. C For hundreds of years, America’s wilderness has been reduced due to growing cities, leaving outdoors lovers like hunters with fewer chances. Gradually, the number of deer was increasing too rapidly, which was not good for both the animals and people. People’s Attitude to Deer Hunting D America’s Rules for Deer to Keep Ecological Balance D Now a new generation (一代人) is appearing. 13 What do we know about members of Generation Alpha? A. They will prefer working at home. B. They study with the help of AI. C. After eating, she left in a hurry and left her phone on the table. When Emily and John prepared to go home, Emily noticed the phone. She quickly told John. “It must be the young lady’s phone.” Join looked at the phone which took his breath away. It was one of the latest models on the market. John had always wanted a phone, but his parents didn’t agree. John stared at it for some minutes. Then he said slowly, “I want to take the phone.” Emily could not believe her ears. Before sleep Emily went into John’s bedroom and said. “John, you can’t keep the phone. Your behavior is wrong. And how will you explain the thing to our parents?” John said. “I will say a friend lent it to me.” “You are lying. Oh, dear! When did you turn so dishonest?” said Emily.
