阅读下列短文,从每题所给的ABCD四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Deciduous forests(落叶林) are home to many wild animals. The development and expansion of human presence in the forests has caused many of their native species to become endangered.
Giant Pandas
The giant panda, one of the most recognisable endangered species, is a large, docile species of bear native to the deciduous forest of eastern China, Myanmar and Vietnam. Because of its limited diet—the panda’s main source of food is bamboo—the species is limited in its habitat to areas where bamboo is available. Now the species only can be found today in 20 small patches of forest at the western edge of its historic range.
Gray and Red Wolves
The gray wolf, which once ranged from the East Coast of America to the West, and south to Mexico, now has a population of only 5,000 in the lower 48 states, mostly in the Rocky Mountains. The smaller red wolf, native to the southeastern United States, was declared extinct in the wild in 1980, though conservation efforts have reintroduced small captive populations to the wild in California.
Red-Crowned Cranes
The red-crowned crane is native to eastern China, Russia and the Korean Peninsula. Agricultural expansion and deforestation(森林砍伐) in these areas have removed a great deal of the marshes and forests that are the crane’s primary habitats. For a time, the crane was thought to have completely disappeared from Japan, but the recent discovery of cranes in Japanese marshlands has restarted conservation efforts. Today, around 2,500 cranes live in the wild, including 1,000 in Japan.
European Minks
Native to Europe, the European mink ranges from France in the west to Finland in the north, Russia in the east and the Balkans in the south. Destruction of the mink’s aquatic(水生的) habitat and use of the species for fur have caused dramatic drops in the species’ population, which has been reduced by 85 percent since the mid-19thcentury.
1. What has caused the wild animals to become endangered?
A. Global warming. B. International trade.
C. Environmental pollution. D. The invasion of mankind.
2. Which species is native to North America?
A. European Minks. B. Red Wolves.
C. Red-Crowned Cranes. D. Giant Pandas.
3. Which is mentioned as the reason for the decline of European minks?
A. The loss of their natural food. B. The hunting of human beings.
C. Drought and forest fires. D. Excessive deforestation.

American actor James Dean has been dead for 64 years. James Dean, who died at the age of 25 in September 1955, starred in just three movies before he died in a car accident. They are Rebel Without a Cause, East of Eden and Giant. Yet, he will star in a new movie about the Vietnam War thanks to digital technology, which generates (产生) images of James Dean by computer.
The idea that one of the movies’ most beloved former stars would be recreated digitally for a new film has been met with criticism (批评). Captain America actor Chris Evans called the plans to use Dean’s image in the film disrespectful.
However, Mark Roesler, the chairman of CMG said, “Dean has more than 183,000 followers on Instagram, and that he is still important today. He was known as. Hollywood’s ‘rebel (叛逆)’ who famously said ‘if a man can bridge the gap between life and death, if he can live after he’s dead, then maybe he is a great man.’” Roesler added, “What was considered rebellious in. the 50’s is very different from what is rebellious today, and we feel confident that he would support this modern day act of rebellion.”
Anton Ernst, the film’s director, said, “I respect Dean’s life and history. The movie is one of hope and love. There are still a lot of James Dean’s fans worldwide and there would always be critics. All we can do is tell a great story.” Ernst added, “The Dean family views this as his fourth movie, a movie he never got to make. We do not want to let his fans down.”
4. Which film did Chris Evans star in?

C. James Dean thought he himself was a great man full of rebellion.
D. Rorsler believes James Dean would support the digital technology.
6. Which is the main idea of the text?

C. Latest digital technology is developing very faster than before.
D. The new movie is popular with people of all ages.
7. What is the attitude of James’ family towards his fourth movie?
A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Curious. D. Uninterested.

Grace Hemingway gifted her son, Earnest, a copy of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s epic poem Hiawatha on his sixth birthday. While it’s hard to say how much her choice of gift influenced Earnest Hemingway at the time, he grew up to become one of the most famous writers in history.
Books can make for charming gifts. Giving a book as a gift to someone is much more than a simple exchange of goods.
When giving books, think about your recipients’ (接受者) favorite. It is worth the time to try and find a rare copy, like first editions or signed copies. They’ll be delighted by the effort. Are your friends stuck in a dullness and in need of some motivation? You can gift them a book that offers inspiration. Also, not mainstream yet useful guides related to their career are helpful.
A book when received as a gift has meaning to the recipient by itself if you’ve put some thought into it. An inscription (题词) adds to the appeal of your gift by making it more individualized. Without an inscription, although still meaningful, the book is just a book indistinguishable from hundreds of thousands of copies out there. A case for not penning down an inscription is that it makes it easier for them to pass it on to someone else if they don’t like the book.
Wondering if you should give your recipient a hardcover or a paperback? There is no universal preference among readers. Some like the paperbacks because of the convenience, easy to carry around and travel with. But many people, including me, prefer hardcovers because they’re more traditional and last much longer. A study designed to find a relation between the weight of wine bottles and their prices found that in most cases the weight of a wine bottle related positively with the price. The weight helped consumers perceive the wine as better.
In a word, books can make for memorable gifts. A good book gifted thoughtfully will create a pleasant memory.
8. Why is Earnest Hemingway mentioned in the first paragraph?
A. To share a book. B. To present a fact.
C. To introduce the topic. D. To make a comparison.
9. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
A. Who the gift should be given. B. How a book should be presented.
C. Where a proper book can be found. D. What kinds of books can be chosen as gifts.
10. Why is an inscription advised to be included in a gifted book?
A To make the book more personal.
B. To record the giver’s reading experience.
C. To make the content of the book more appealing.
D. To allow the book to be more pleasing to the eye.
11. What does the author want to convey when it comes to the study about wine bottles?
A. Good wine is all in heavier bottles.
B. The weight of a book determines its price.
C A hardcover book is often valued more as a gift.
D. The price of wine depends on the quality of its bottle.
D
Scientists say only enlarging the world’s nature reserve to help protect plants and animals may be useless. The main reason is that levels of human activity are rising in and around the nature reserves. In fact, recognizing spaces as protected areas is not reducing human activity there.
The researchers found that a lack of money to pay for land conservation (保护) is affecting conservation efforts. And it is a lack of communication between people who live in protected natural areas and outsiders. About 17 percent of the world is within protected areas, including the national parks, nature reserves and wilderness areas. Protected areas are important for supporting environments with many different kinds of plants and animals.
The researchers again found increasing human activity in most protected areas in every country. However, they said that human activity appeared to be more of a problem in nations with fewer roads and lower life standards on the Human Development Index (指数). The index uses information about life length, education and earnings to grade countries on human development.
Across the northern Australia, protected areas often proved effective at slowing human activity when compared with unprotected areas. But in South America, Southeast Asia and African countries, pressure from human activity inside protected areas was higher.
Experts say governments need to provide fund support to help protected areas. Simply recognizing a place as a protected area can’t be the beginning and the end of a conservation effort. Working with local people to take efforts is also important. If they’re not partners in the protected areas, then wildlife conservation is much more difficult.
12 What are protected areas mainly affected by according to the text?
A. Human activity. B. Climate change.
C. Population growth. D. Environmental pollution.
13. What’s the Human Development Index used to do?
A. Record more roads in the world.
B. Improve education in all countries.
C. Grade countries on human development.
D. Lead more people to make money.
14. What do experts advise governments to do for protected areas?
A. Enlarge protected areas.
B. Offer extra money and work with locals.
C. Attract more people to travel there.
D. Allow local people to farm there.
15. What can be the best title for the text?
A. People May Cause Harm to Plants and Animals
B. Local People Should Focus on the Natural Environment
C. Nature Reserves in the World Should Be Increased
D. Nature Reserves May Not Protect Wildlife Safely

Urban Wildlife
Cities are diverse ecosystems. In addition to visitors from the wild, a large number of species share our urban areas. As our cities spread, we need to think about what it is like for other species to have human neighbours.
Cities are built for humans. ___16___ For example, most city parks are kept neat and tidy so that humans will find them beautiful. But when we cut grass or plant flowers, we destroy natural habitats.
___17___. When a bridge in Austin, Texas was repaired, engineers added small gaps running along the length of its bottom. This made a good home for bats and soon the bridge was the home of thousands of bats. ___18___ Now, they have come to value their winged neighbours. The bats are a tourist attraction, and they eat lots of bugs every night.
There are also structures built with the aim of bringing wildlife into the city. The Beijing Olympic Forest Park is a good example. The park used native plants and created open, natural spaces for wildlife. The result is a zone in Beijing with over 160 species of birds. In many ways, the park is the opposite of a zoo. ___19___
If we learn to share our space, we can become better neighbours to the wildlife around us. ___20___ Our own future will be endangered too.
A. Our actions sometimes help other species.
B. They are built to protect birds.
C. If we do not, more species will become extinct.
D. They would sit on it and their droppings would fall into the water.
E. Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife can move about.
F. At first, people were afraid of the bats and tried to get rid of them.
G. They do not always provide suitable habitats for wildlife.

Dad and Madison were walking through the party store, gathering decorations for Madison’s upcoming birthday party.
“But I don’t want to invite Lucy Gilbert! I don’t like her!”
“Madison, you are being unreasonable. If every girl in your class is invited to a party but you, you’ll feel left out. It would be a big mistake not to invite Lucy to the party. ”“She never even talks to me! ”
Dad sighed and moved down the aisle ( 走廊). “Lucy is a new girl in class. She just moved here a little over a month ago. Think about how that must feel. She doesn’t know one single person in the school. She left all of her old friends behind and now she has to try to make new friends. Your party will be a great chance for her to get to know everyone. ”
“No, it won’t. She will probably sit in the corner and not talk to anyone. Every day at lunch she sits all by herself. She wants to eat alone!" Madison shrugged and rolled her eyes (翻白眼).
“Madison, I’m done discussing this. You will invite every girl in your class, including Lucy Gilbert!"
On Saturday morning, the family blew up balloons and decorated the house cheerfully. Madison was dressed beautifully for the day, wearing her new blue dress. It was not typical of her to dress herself like this. She usually wore sports clothes because she loved to be outside riding her horse Star with a lead rope (缰绳).
Madison greeted her friends at the doorstep, picturing (想象)various presents her friends would bring her. In the meanwhile, she was wondering whether Lucy would ruin the party if she came. Anyhow, all the girls she invited came finally, including Lucy. The girls had a fantastic time by singing and dancing while Lucy sat in the corner silently alone. Later, all the girls gathered around the table as Madison opened her presents. Opening them one by one, Madison thanked her friends, with a bright smile on her face.

A. To make the book more personal.
C. A hardcover book is often valued more as a gift.
D. The price of wine depends on the quality of its bottle.
【答案】8. C 9. D 10. A 11. C

12. What are protected areas mainly affected by according to the text?
A. Human activity. B. Climate change.
C. Population growth. D. Environmental pollution.
13. What’s the Human Development Index used to do?
A. Record more roads in the world.
B. Improve education in all countries.
C. Grade countries on human development.
D Lead more people to make money.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. B 15. D
根据第1段中“The main reason is that levels of human activity are rising in and around the nature reserves. In fact, recognizing spaces as protected areas is not reducing human activity there(主要原因是自然保护区内和周围的人类活动水平正在上升。 事实上,划定某个地方是保护区并不能减少那里的人类活动)”可知,保护区最主要的是受到人类活动的影响。故选A项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第3段中“The index uses information about life length, education and earnings to grade countries on human development”可知,the Human Development Index是用来根据有关人的寿命、教育和收入的信息对各国人类发展水平进行分级的。故选C项。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段“Experts say governments need to provide fund support to help protected areas”和“Working with local people to take efforts is also important”可知,专家建议政府要提供资金支持,要与当地人民一起努力才能保护野生动物。故选B项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。文章第1段提出观点:Scientists say only enlarging the world’s nature reserve to help protect plants and animals may be useless(科学家们认为只通过扩大世界自然保护区以帮助保护植物和动物可能毫无用处),接着文章给出了相关的论据:人类活动在自然保护区中增加,保护资金缺乏;还举了the northern Australia,South America, Southeast Asia 和African countries这些具体国家和地区的实例来论证上面的观点,所以这篇文章的开头就是文章的主旨。
Scientists say only enlarging the world’s nature reserve to help protect plants and animals may be useless;然后每一段提出支撑的论据:第二段论据是是a lack of money to pay for land conservation is affecting conservation efforts,第三、四段的论据是The researchers again found increasing human activity in most protected areas,第五段是专家的建议governments need to provide fund support to help protected areas 和Working with local people to take efforts is also important。从每一段的论据可以看出,文章标题应该为“只有自然保护区不能安全地保护野生动物”。

【答案】16. G 17. A 18. F 19. E 20. C

【18题详解】
空格后的句子“Now, they have come to value their winged neighbors.(现在,它们开始重视它们长翅膀的邻居)”是说人们现在对待这些蝙蝠的态度。空格处的句子应该提到人们原来对待这些蝙蝠的态度,形成前后的对比。所以F项“At first, people were afraid of the bats and tried to get rid of them.(起初,人们害怕蝙蝠,试图除掉它们)”填入空格处,符合题意。故选F项。
【19题详解】
空格前的句子“In many ways, the park is the opposite of a zoo.(在许多方面,这个公园和动物园是对立的)”是说这个公园和动物园是对立的。为什么这样说呢?E项“Instead of being kept in cages, wildlife can move more freely.(野生动物不再被关在笼子里,它们可以更自由地活动)”给出了答案。应该E项填入空格处,和上文是顺接关系,符合题意。故选E项。
【20题详解】
根据空格后的句子“Our own future will be endangered too.(我们自己的未来也将受到威胁)”可知,空格处的句子一定提到野生动物的危险处境。所以C项“If we do not, more species will become extinct.(如果我们不这样做,更多的物种将会灭绝)”填入空格处,符合题意。故选C项。

I am Li Hua, a high school student. Hearing that a world literature salon is to be held in our city next Sunday, I’m writing to inquire about it, because I have been passionate about literature since I was a little child.
First of all, I’d love to know whether there are any qualifications required to join in this salon. Besides, what activities will be organized accordingly? For example, will there be some lectures given by some famous writers? What’s more, if I’m lucky enough to be allowed to join in this salon, do I need to make some advance preparations, mentally and physically?

【答案】高分范文
Lucy’s present was the very last to be opened. Worrying that it would ruin the party, Madison grabbed the present reluctantly. As soon as she opened the box, her eyes widened in surprise——inside was a delicately hand-made lead rope! Amazed at its beauty, Madison pulled it out of the box. “It’s a lead rope for your horse Star. I made it by myself!”Lucy added, “I heard you talking about your horse at school. That’s when I got the idea of making you a lead rope. ”
Deeply moved by what she said, Madison held the lead rope tightly in her hands. It was the most beautiful birthday present she ever received. She suddenly felt so guilty because she had been so mean to Lucy. Feeling a mixture of regret and gratitude, she blinked back her tears and said, “Thanks so much for this lead rope. I love it! Would you like to join us and be our friends?” Lucy nodded cheerfully——Madison put her arm around Luey’s shoulders, both smiling. With applause and laughter echoing through the house, Lucy joined the other girls to enjoy the party.
